Hey guys i have a question.
I got my HP iPAQ 914c 6 days ago and i wanted to install Windows Mobile 6.5.
The Question is..Do i have to do anything before i install it like flash or something like that, because i only used it for calls and texting.
Does it Run smoothly on the HP?I didn't want to use a ROM that's laggy.

If you want the phone just to call and write SMS, you should keep the 6.1
But if you want to change to 6.5, there are several alternatives. Depending on your preferences (for example, the language), you should look at the Sable forum and see how many ROMs are offered to you.
What you only need is a 6.5 ROM into a 2Gb or less MicroSD and you got it. Read carefully how to flash. And whatever you did before flashing doesn't matters.

Hello, I apologise for a completely rookie question, but I am going to ask cos I am unsure...
I have an T-Mobile MDA COMPACT III UK version of the P3300. It runs windows mobile 5.
I want to give the B&B ROM a try and have read up on how you do it using USPL.
My Question: When I do a search for the ROM it comes up in the "Windows Mobile 6" thread, does this mean I need to upgrade to windows mobile 6 first? Or can i just flash with the ROM?
Again sorry for the daft question, all answers will be greatly appreciated!
It is in the 'Windows Mobile 6' section, because it is based on WM6. You don't need to upgrade first, this is what you are doing by flashing the ROM.

Everyone usuallly recomends the B+B ROMs, but personally i like the Vanilla 2 ROM, its all down to personal preference. Vanilla is quick, and stable, B+B has a lot of features. (Both are based on WM6)

this is the wrong place to be asking, go to X1 rom dev, and since ur a newbie ask and collate on Kid_DC's newbie chef thread
actually ive just realised what you are asking after reading your post, previously only read thread title....
anyway what you are probably asking is not how to cook 6.5, not how to flash 6.5...
Cooking- building, customising and tweaking a rom from a rom kitchen
Flashing- getting the above rom installed on your phone
anyway if you want to flash a windows mobile rom you dont need a SDcard, all you need is your phone; usb cable; a computer; windows mobile device center installed; and an activesynce connection between the two....
if you want to flash a 6.5 rom 1st go to the x1 rom development section then read a sticky thread on how to flash a rom...
btw i suggest itje's win6.5

I have purchased a HTC clone also known as the HTY 3238 Model.
Basically as far as I am aware this is pretty much a clone of the 3232 Official design.
Now I have seen WM6.5 ROMS on this site for the Official 3232 model but I was wondering if anyone has successfuly put WM6.5 on the HTY 3238 Cloned model ?

While there is info about various 6.5 ROMs in that thread BUT the general feeling there is that Clones cannot flash from 6.1 to 6.5. I know because I asked the question there and in other Jade threads.
The thread about Sunno Clones has users who supposedly have flashed from 6.1 to 6.5.

I *think* he said, prior to your post that no one in that thread said that they were able to flash from 6.1 to 6.5.
Possible
I to hace the Clone and upgrades with the Smart.upr on my memory card. I did have to do a few things.
1. Small Memory card I used a 1 GIG card.
I took out the Sim card. and did it by holding down OK, Left Green Button then the power. it started working in a minute or so . IT took 10 Min to finish.
I tried all other ways and they DID NOT Work. Best of Luck...

The only problem was that I could no longer define buttons with different programs. In WM 6.1
I used "AEButton Plus" and with that programm I could do that. Because I want to push only one button while I am driving in order to use Voice Speed Dial. Therefore I went back zu WM 6.1.
Now I only have to push the ok-button a little bit longer, tell my phone whom to call while IGO is still working.

When I had problems with the ROM I had, I realized how difficult it is to try to flash ROMs and end up with a working product. As a result of that incident, I also learned that there are differences between ROMs and that all versions are not created equal or fully functional.
As a result, I now believe it is best to stick with what you have. 6.1 supposedly is felt to be better than 6.5 which is buggy IMHO. Hopefully WM7 will be better but that is a year away.
I completely agree to you. I only try to flash a rom when I'm 100 % sure it's the right rom for my device and if I have the original rom to go back.

hspl is a hard second program loader. you need to flash that to be able to change the operating system on your device.
roms are images of the operating system. they provide windows mobile in different versions (6.1 / 6.5 / 6.5.3 or even 6.5.5) and additionally come with different versions of manila (aka touchflo 3d or in newer versions also sense).
these are very basic things that you should read more about before attempting to flash your device, or you will break it. it is not like "press one button - done". flashing your device means tempering with your waranty and bypassing locks, set by htc.
you should definetely read threads like the "dummy's guide to hspl and uspl" in the rom development section of the blackstone forum.
in that section you will also find the differnet roms provided here, marked with [Release].
have a look at the different threads to find a rom that you like from the screenshots and read through the experiences, people post with it.
also, a lot of basic windows mobile information can be found on wikipedia's windows mobile and blackstone pages.

oh, and you shouldn't really back up programs, but re-install them on the new operating system, backing up too much stuff will cause your rom to run instable and slow. you should only use pimbackup, or MS myphone, or outlook, to backup personal data.
if you ever consider to go back to the exact rom you are using now, you could make a full backup with spb backup, but restoring that backup on another rom is highly un-recommended.

Don't give up. That's defeatist talk. Yeah, it is intemidating at first but nothing worth doing is easy. Just read and you will understand. I read and read and read and when I set down to do it I was able to install a custom rom without incident. That was a year and a half ago. I'm probably going to install a new rom soon so I will read and read and read again to refresh my memory. Part of the complexity stemed from there being two different methods of flashing the phone, iirc. If you give up on trying to mod your phone you might as well jsut have bought an apple.

I'm very new at this, I've searched the forums but find dead links to things, so I'm reposting.
I have a Touch Dual Neon400 from Bell Mobility. It's currently running Windows Mobile 6.1, I'd like to run Windows 6.5 (or better?). I don't want any fancy functionality just a better interface.
Is there a simple guide anywhere that will take someone through the whole process step by step. I don't know anything about ROMs, have never flashed the phone etc.
