I have a generic wm6.1 device, not branded.
I was using MSN Messenger on my Device via my wifi connection.
So while looking at my list of contacts i got a notice up the top saying that "the wireless network is not avaliable right now", giving me a hint that the wifi is dropping out.
But I am close to the router and signal is 4 or 5 bars. So I'm wondering whether it's a bug with MSN Messenger or whether my wifi drops out.
The Message comes up every minute or so and stays for 3 minutes.
I decided to goto my wifi manager where it says my access point name and the status which is "CONNECTED", so i assumed if it always drops out it would sometimes say "CONNECTING".
So i sat and stared at the wifi manager status for 15 minutes and always was on "CONNECTED", however when on msn the notice comes up about losing signal to the wireless network" every now and then.
Any Suggestions?
this bug is pretty common amongst winmo users from what ive seen ... im not a heavy user of msn mobile so i dont know the fix
Thanks Souljaboy.
Is this Bug common with Windows Mobile itself, or just MSN Messenger. As in does the problem happen if you used any program, or just with MSN Messenger?
Thanks,

Hi, I use my MSN quite abit but have noticed that even when I have left my phone on, logged in to MSN, when I revisit it later I notice that I've either been logged off or that I apear logged on but am not, and when I go to change my status I can't and have to log back in again.
I've installed the latest MSN update and have not tried or tested for this since. I just wonder if this is a common problem as I want to run my website support through this service butcan't if I keep getting cut off.
Thanks
Paul.
I gather you're using Pocket Version of MSN Messenger Service on Xda II? Well, as I do not know exactly your network setup, I could suggest a few reasons why MSN logs you off.
1) If you're on USB passthrough or WiFi, and if the phone is set to turn off if not used for a certain minutes - You MSN will lose connection when your device's power is turned off.
2) There's another session probably on your desktop PC loggin in, that logs you out from the Pocket session.
3) MSN server disconnection.
However, I think #1 is the usual suspect.
Also, if you answered a call, you'll lose your GPRS connection, and MSN will disconnect...
The thing I hate about it? If someone sent you a message, and you have not read it yet - but got disconnected, it dissappears. =(
I've since swiched to Agile Messanger; only thing I dont' like about it is I can't 'mark' text to copy & paste somewhere else...
Hi
Apologies for this, but I thought it better to bump this post than start a new thread asking about it again. Basically I get the exact problem as orininally described.
When connected on GPRS, I sign on to MSN Messenger. In under 5 minutes of idle activity I have been disconnected from MSN, but unless I attempt to open a conversation or change my status it is not evident. Even after several hours the contact list is still visible as if I am still connected. When I tap a contact that appears online to start a conversation, MSN then realises its offline and drops back to the sign-in screen.
If I am constantly using MSN, such as having a lengthy conversation, MSN stays online.
I can confirm that during the idle time when MSN does disconnect, GPRS is constantly connected and has not been interrupted by a call. MSN does not seem to be very useful on my phone unless I want an immediate conversation, otherwise within a few short minutes its offline.
From the looks of things MSN does not appear to be sending a ping out to keep its connection alive when idle, and just stays in a dead state until used again... thus the MSN server disconnects it. Is there any way to fix this behaviour or is there no such problem if I switch to Agile Messenger?

Hey,
I have my tytn set to check emails every 5 minutes using my homes wifi connection. My problem is every once in a while i'll look to find GPRS has connected... this is really annoying me, as i don't know then if email is being checked using wifi or GPRS which costs. MAINLY though bcause I don't know WHY it is doing it.
In connections, my top selection is CONTRACT INTERNET which holds my gprs connection settngs and the bottom one is my work network. the slightest change in either of these STOPS INBOX from checking over wifi giving me an ';error synchronsing message;'
Can anyone tell me WHY my tytn persists with this?
thank you
hey, well incase anyone is reading and looking for a short term fix, UNTICKING the remember password box in gprs settings means if it attempts to dial, it CAN'T connect without the password being ntered. not ideal, but it at least stops any nasty surprises when you don't expect them
I had the same issue with WM 5. After upgrading the device to WM 6 this problem was solved for me.
For the past couple of weeks, I've been having issues keeping an internet connection. To describe, I have push email set up so I'm always connected. I seem to get emails fine and I always have an "e" above my signal strength to show that I'm connected. But When I actually want to go to a website, it will connect but after I click on a few links, the next link will just hang. I'm using Opera mini, and after a few pages I get the network test page. Sometimes it will come back and say "you have a working network", and other times it just won't start again.
I was thinking it was just my service (T-Mobile USA) because I use a proxy configuration that's not really ment for full internet access. But I noticed that I was having the same issue when connected to wifi networks. Then I tried PIE and I had similar issues connecting with it as well.
I did just replace my housing. That's the only major change I can think of. I hope this isn't a hardware issue. Anyway, emails still come through but surfing forums has been pretty much shut down. Anyone have any idea of what it could be?
BTW, I've been using the same ROM for over 7 months (O2 Premium Plus) and never had this issue before. No new programs installed since problem either.
Has anyone else had the problem that you go online and surf the web then maybe a couple of hours later you launch Opera again to go online and it just hangs (the data connection not opera)?
The only way to make it connect is to turn off the data connection then it will log back on...

yeh iv been getting that problem for sometime now, its frustrating, sometimes i even have to soft reset to get the data connection working. It shows that the data connection is fine and everything seems connected, but then when you try and update weather or browse the web (anything that uses data) you end up getting an error,
its very similar to the problem you get on your home broadband, your router shows its connected and your dsl and everything is active yet you get a white page on your browser and then you have to reset your router, very very frustrating, so i understand your problem exactly.
I'm wondering if this is anything to do with changing cells on your network?
When you travel to a different cell location although the network says you are still connected (and you can still send/receive calls) the data network has actually dropped and needs refreshing?
I suppose what we are after is a program that can refresh the data network every few mins - don't know if this is possible though?
Here in Germany o2 has a problem with the Qualcomm Chipset. I also have hanging connections. A workaround is to disable HSDPA. Maybe you have the same problem?
same problem here (also o2 Germany)
the 3G icon is there and the bubble says there is a connection for x minutes but opera or google maps mobile report a missing connection after a short time of usage. i have to kill the connection manually and after the connection is reestablished it works again for few minutes...... this is so frustrating...
GPRS
Same problem in Czech republic with O2 provider.
At this moment I found as a fastest way to switch off and on the radio.
I'm using most of the time GPRS connection and this problem is about two times per day so reconnection every day two times is really annoying.
Hopefully somebody will find solution soon...
My problem is slightly different. Sometimes (after using Opera or not) I try to refresh weather and it says "refreshing" but the data connection won't connect (it shows antenna, no arrows with H or 3G). I must then soft reset the PDA to make it work. Any solutions or similar experiences?

I am also wondering if this problem is limited to Blackstone (HTC Touch HD) or extends to HD2 also?
I have noticed that no one ahs posted any solution.
Comeon senior guys PLEASE help us out here.
Many thanks in advance.
Kam2kam, question, What rom are you using, and are you using activesync? If so, have you downloaded any email attachments? I was having the same problem where a couple of times a day I would have to soft reset. The connection would look fine, but if you tried to update anything or browse the net you were met with an error. It was frustrating. I finally narrowed the issue down to activesync and the new manila documents tab. My theory was that when I downloaded an attachment to view in the documents tab activesync would continue to sync the attachment each time it polled for new mail. Since activesync is often slow to sync attachments, my connection to the VPN would timeout before it could finish syncing causing the dreaded "waiting for network". My thought was my VPN connection would freeze thereby preventing my carrier internet from being able to connect; since, at least for me, you cannot have two different data session running simultaneously, i.e. VPN connection and the carrier's connection. The only cure was to soft reset. Ultimately what I did was hunt down any and all email attachments that I had dowloaded, and deleted them all. Since then my data connection went from freezing up twice a day to zero times a day and it's now been over two weeks.
You may not have the same set up as I do, but perhaps there may be something similar going on.
I hope that helps a bit.
When i connect thru EDGE or 3G i`ll always get disconnected by WLM on standby and when am using it...i don't know how often it happens when its on standby but it disconnects all the time and sometimes reconnects by it self...and it happens like every 5/10 minutes when am using it...what seems to be the problem ? it displays "wireless connection not available trying to reconnect"...it couldn't be a ROM fault because i upgrade all the time...thanks
It happens on my Omnia II also...
Samsung will auto stop your network after you don't use it for a while
And I use WiFi to login Messenger at home so that it won't always disconnect.
For you, you should aways chat to your friend so that the network won't stop
