I want the best out of my phone, so I've enabled a ton of performance increasing reg tweaks and I get my phone to update twitter, email and the weather fairly often but of course all this drains the battery more so then normal which is a big shame.
So basically how can I maximise battery life, any tips or tweaks that will work?

How often do we have to say that: SEARCH the forum ! There are several threads about this and now we have one more useless thread flooding xda...
There are reg tweaks, auto disconnects and more, just search
undo the performance tweaks would be a start.
If you dont use your microSD card a lot, eject it.
set screen brightness to manual, about 20-30%.
disable GPS location.
Change email/weather/stock/twitter/etc download to manual or set a long time.
If that's not enough, get a bigger battery.
Turning the phone off saves a lot of battery power. This is the best tweak.
With my current usage I remove the charger at 7 in the morning and it turns out of battery at 9 in the evening.. That's so poor...
No MP3, a bit of internet (HSDPA) and a dozen of calls...
I'm a bit desperate...

I know this is another thread on this subject, and it really should be laid to rest, as enough has been said already.
The best policy, without compromising your usage of the thing, is to carry a spare battery with you. That way you can use the device as much as you like and you are guaranteed power at the end of the day. That is the only way - otherwise, you have a smartphone that you effectively cannot use as such because you are terrified of draining your juice.
I'm sorry, but I think that is a valid criticism of the device - the battery life is dire, really bad. If it had an extra 20-30% I would be happy, but the reality is going out of the office for a day, without that spare, I would be terrified of running out by 7pm just by using it for what it is designed for.

The HD 2 is my little superportable "Laptop on the go". My real Notebook (Sony Vaio TT 92) is left at home since I have the HD 2.
The HD2 does everything I would need from a Notebook in everyday life: emailing, netsurfing, writing notes, checking dates, making appointments .......
AND IT DOES MORE ! Navigating in the car, as pedestrian, (with my Aviation program "Flymap") when I fly my ultralight gyroplane, making my wife see where I am (Gylmpse), Checking prizes in the supermarket (Barcoo, Inigma, mobiletag), helping to decide where I´m gonna eat (Aloqua), having weather infos from all over the world, stock exch rates, currency exch rates, weather radar, taking pictures on the go, filming short videos, watching movies in waiting times (TCPMP-player), drafting documents, setting up excel-files, PHONING/TEXTING (yes, never forget THAT) and 100s things more .................. , AND it is my WLAN-Router when I surf on the Notebook
THIS my 3000.- € Laptop CANNOT do and it quits after 6 hours of intensive work AND I have to carry it around strapped to my shoulder.
Now no need for this anymore. I have the HD 2. I work with it from 6 in the morning to sometimes midnight and YES, then it is drained down to 10-15%.
But that is natural !
There are so many solutions to recharge it:
1. a retractable mini-USB-cable + AC/DC-adapter that is just the size of a normal plug (easy to wear in the pocket)
2. with the retractable cable just plug into any Computer USB
3. buy a spare battery
4. order (expensive though) the EXTENDED battery
OR
throw Your HD2 away and buy a cell-phone that can do just one thing: phoning (4-8 hrs) and texting ............................
As long as we don´t have fuel cell technology for PDA-batteries we have to live with it, it´s a matter of physics

A word of warning - I left my VAIO at home when the Asus eee's came out, when I came to need the larger screen of the VAIO again, battery was completely dead - and no replacements available. Scratch one very expensive laptop.
Think hard about replacing that VAIO with something else before it is past its prime ....
rjstep3
Poor Vaio is left at home plugged with the charger (to avoid an escape) and every weekend it serves as backup and install-util for the HD2.........
But since I can do my powerpoint presentations better with the Vaio it has to work every second weekend very hard
............. but presentation is clicked forward by HD2 used as a remote control

Dam I was going to say that LOL.
Make sure you maximize the batteries capacity by charging it at every opportunity for as long and as often as you can.
Do this for at least two weeks and you are off to a great start.
Otherwise you will never find out just how good the battery can be.
Actualy i'm quite happy with the battery on the HD2, ofcourse it could be better but it get's me through a day of active use and still has 10-20% at the end of the day.
I normaly unplug it from the charger around 8.30 in the morning, 1 hour of Mp3 while browsing the web / Sending sms or reading my mail.
Then it's left for a 3 hour rest while i'm working/in class, in the lunch i use it for another 30-45min (browsing, sms, email etc)
Another 2 hour rest before i get on the subway and doing the same 1 hour of Mp3 while browsing the web / Sending sms or reading my mail.
When i get home, i make some calls, send some sms, etc etc. And when i go to bed around 23.00 it still has 10-20% left.
I even update the weather once every 15min, Email every 5min, Stocks every Hour, Facebook: every 2 Hours.

I have to admit, the HD2 is pretty useful for a schoolkid Of course, we don't use it in lessons (I'm sure the teachers would give anything to confiscate a HD2 and play around with it when no one's looking ) But yep, I like the way the phone balances Power with Speed, considering it's got a 1GHz processor laying within it. Btw I charge the HD2 via USB cable in ICT

Haha so true, get so bored in lectures you gotta have the internet and some games.
Two things I will suggest which will make you OVER THE MOON regarding improving battery life.
1) Install Bandswitch 2.8 which will allow you to auto disconnect any data connections after 'x' amount of seconds. Now you can have facebook, emails, weather, rss, internet, stocks etc automatically connect and disconnect when required. No more checking your data connection status and realising you have been connected for the last 2 hours. I set my Bandswitch app to to auto disconnect idle data connections after 60 seconds.
http://www.commmgrpro.com/jsp/main_frame.jsf and click on the Bandswitch Tab.
2) Flash Radio 2.07.50.27 to your phone. This radio is AMAZING for battery life. I have tried a few (inc 2.08) and always come back to this radio. You can find the link to download it and read up on flashing radios more here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
I have done both the above. For example, at 3am last night my battery was 100%. It's now 10pm here and my battery is at 58%. That is 19 hours and only used 42%. That is with a few phone calls, web browsing and auto email check of 7 accounts every 2 hours.

That's the key - you are only checking email every so often - I am in business and need to have push email. That is the point of a smartphone - connectivity. I need instant access to and from my clients. I find using push email, the battery drains terribly - almost, almost note, unusable. The Touch HD was never like this. This is as bad as the Kaiser, and that was bad.
rjstep3
rjstep3 well try the sbove 2 suggestions and see if it improves. Radio should at the very least.
I bought an emergency charger from eBay, cost 10AUD. Put it and a couple of 2200mAh AA size rechargeable battery in the bag so I never worried about battery for about 4-5 days outside.

Hello to everyone in this great and very very very big forum.
I just bought (1 week ago) a tytn from somebody. It looked very ok, the software was good when i tested it when i bought it but...
The phone went off in no time (I didn't noticed this when i bought it) like 3-5 hours.
I installed acbPowerMeter and BatteryStatus and something VERY STRANGE happens:
with wi-fi OFF it consumes something like 350mAh (not 35, but 350!!)
with wi-fi ON it consumes something like 150mAh (I have to be connected to a network to consume like this)
When i put it in stand-by it consumes something like 100mAh (but it can consume even 300mAh in stand-by).
This consumption i told you is with the phone OFF! with it on it consumes something like the same or less.
I want to ask you: is there anything that i could do (software change...) or is a hardware issue? Because it is obvious this was the reason he sold it and i think he tried many things too... (now he doesn't answer his phone, of course)
Details for my tytn:
ROM version: Schap's 4.31 (WM 6.1 I think)
ROM date: 10/03/2007
Radio version: 1.47.30.10
Protocol version: 32.80.7020.20W
ModelNo: HERM200
Clue:
He said he sails it because he wants tytn II and that the wireless connection drops now and then (he said 1 time in 2-3 hours) and i said ok no problem for me (he used it like a wi-fi card for his laptop)
No reply from you too?
Oh well... I think I have a curse for second hand things...
Ontopic:
The phone heats very very strong and after a call it consumes much memory even with wi-fi on. Turnin the phone off doesn't resolve the problem.
I'm thinking on hard-reseting the device to see if it is from the ROM (it will be back with win mobile 5, no?)
Hahahha. Welcome to the TyTn club.....
The power consumption is the problem with all the Windows Mobile phones I have tested. I have tested about 15 different phones for my work.
HTC is probably the best for power consumption. Why, I think because you can disable WiFi, HSDPA and BT and IR. Then you can work for more than 50 hours with you're same phone!
Have FUN with you're phone.
Thanks for the reply but read carrefully:
When Wi-fi is TURNED ON it consumes LESS!!
This is very unusual. And the power consumption for 300-to 400 mAh when i don't do nothing... the word huge is little word for the comparison.
if i have at least 20 hours of stand by i would be very pleased about this ppc... but i don't go more than 5 hours...
Hi shumilica, and welcome to the world of winmo.
Power consumption has always been incredible on my Hermes, which I've owned for about a year and a half. Of course, my device is on an unlimited plan, and it checks 5 email boxes, 4 of them every 30 minutes, and the other on push. It also updates weather in 4 cities every 30 minutes, and downloads newsgroups once a day.
Left on its own, my battery will die in about 3 hours. That is why I have 2 batteries, a docking/charging station at each of my desktops at work and at home, a charger on my nightstand, and one in my car. These things need a lot of fuel to run.
I can't comment on your strange findings with wifi ... are you sure you trust the numbers being reported? Does your battery life REALLY improve when wifi is on? Or is it just that the numbers being reported are higher? I'd question the software you're using to generate these reports.
As for hard-resetting ... no, it will NOT return you to a previous ROM. That's not how it works.
Hope this helps,
-pvs
wow my tytn saves me a whole lot of power compared to yours mine uses between 30 and 52mA with wifi off with wifi on it uses 150 to 400mA but before i updated the rom to wm6.1 it was useing a whole lot more try updating the rom but save all your files
To the OP, FIRST backup all your stuff then try flashing a STANDARD WM6 ROM to the device...such as the HTC official WM6 ROM.
Do a test with the power meter app and see what happens.
Come back to us with your findings. Im doing some tests of my own at the moment to see if the battery status is updating correctly in my ROM (i use the one that displays the battery % in the graphic).
also use a taskmanager to see if there's anything using a LOT of processing power all the time (CPU)
My phone is only GSM only, with specified bands(so, not in auto mode), and uses less than 90mAh with the backlight turned on, on the today screen.
WM6.0 & Radio 1.47.30 by the way, best in my experience for battery consumption and stability of voice calls. My apartment gets this really crappy antenna and it's a REALLY good stress test for radio versions. A GOOD radio will be able to hold an understandable voice call. An average radio and sub-par radio will have a lot of hiccups

hey guys,
i wantet to post the same problem! its my second tytn (first went swimming ...) and this new one (buyed second hand too) has the same problem but i just noticed it is runnig very hot and empty within 3 hours(just in standby). Now i checked with acbmeter (without anything runnig any apps) avg. 350 mAh, with wifi on 84mAh and its quied cooler. My last tytn runs a whole weekend, without charging. I am new with this whole flashing thing where i can get this radio 1.47.30?

Did you ever get around to doing tests on this? I have a feeling that my battery meter is actually reading incorrectly (as opposed to the battery loosing that much power). I say this as I have seen a number of times, as an example, battery at 60% would drop to about 20-30% after only a 15-20min voice call. Also, after soft-resetting the device the battery meter would increase to about 20% more than before the soft-reset.
I'm definitely a converted user of WM devices- been about 4 years and love them but this Hermes is really testing my patience with battery life!
I have to tell you what happened with my tytn:
I changed the ROM but still no change, the back cover was heating and the battery was out in something like 5-6 hours top. But one time, i don't know why, after it drained, i kept it off and wihout battery a week or something and I puted the battery back and NO MORE battery draining... two days of stand-by (without sim) and was at 90%. I shut it down and reopened (or putet in the charge, I don't remember very well) and again it started again... After that I tried a lot of different combination: drained the battery, pulled out the battery for 1-2 days, charged it with the tytn closed etc. etc. And after some more drainings... IT STOPPED... so after this my tytn didn't drain the battery anymore so quickly, no more heat in the back cover (from the battery)... and i tested it: i closed it, reopened, charge it for a momement, put a sim in it, speak with it etc.
I think it helped that i had bluetooth always on... but i don't know for sure... so... try keeping bluetooth on (put it always on from the settings), the tytn will drain the battery, charge it with it closed, open it and the bluetooth will be still opened and maybe it will work... or maybe it was from the fact that i trow it many times in my bed So...
I tested it for 3 days with no problem and after that i sold it.
i my cause not function...another solutions?...recomands?....

After having a think I bought a new battery and it WAS a dodgy battery. The new battery isnt an extended one (it is 1500mAh instead of 1350mAh but thats the only difference).
The device will sit there nicely for days before needing a charge, depending on if i use it alot or not, push email is on and i tend to get atleast 10 emails a day, several calls etc...

Perhaps something I may have to try too- I've have to turn off direct push and schedule emails (exchange and personal) to two hours and the battery life is still poor.
Will look into a new battery to see if that helps. I've had my device coming up to two years now.

Yes mine is almost 2 years old, I bought it around July/August 2006 when they first came out.
The battery I bought on ebay is HERE. The guy delivered it VERY quick (im in the UK).
i've charged it completely, it obviously got really hot. usually at this point, i would take out the battery and let it cool off before turning the phone on, otherwise it would get even hotter and eat 300+ mA and drain the battery fast. this time i opened the wi-fi connection and immediately the battery status dropped from 332 mA to 130, and stayed down there. the phone even cooled down a bit. after i've turned off the wi-fi, it started draining and heating again. what can i do? is it a software or hardware problem?

U can try flashing one of the more current cooked roms.
yep i flashing all the coocked roms found this huge forum and....same problem
I'm a newcomer, sorry if I raise this matter again. I'm going to buy a HTC HD2 at the end of this month, and one of the most important issue I'm worried about is the battery life. Because our forum does not allow poll function, so I just suggest some options for you to choose, ok?
I think we should consider it base on normal usage.
1. Below 1 day.
2. 1 - 1.5 days.
3. 1.5 - 2 days.
4. Above 2 days.
Thanks for you help, really appreciate!
I go for 3 when using it normally (my normally of course! which includes not using it during work and using airplanemode at night, whilst listening to music, watching videos, surfing the net from time to time).
1. heavy usage and everything on (auto-updates, wifi, bt, ...)
2. all-day usage in your job (surfing, appointments, messaging, calling)
3. average usage (not during work and just to make a few calls, a few texts, some surfing)
3. hardly using it

Thanks a lot for your comment, really good preference
Look forward to other users' feedback
mine is less than 1 day
in fact, it's close to 12 hours
without any major task such as internet browsing, it could last for 1 day or more , with regular phone calling and texting.
with major tasks, my rough estimate is
pdf browing (very enjoyable on 4.3" screen) about 1 hour uses 30% battery
listening to music, 1 hour about 10%
movies on coreplayer, 1 hour about 30%
internet browsing, using HSDPA, 1 hour about 30%
as you can see, heavy usage drains it fast
however, my settings are 70% backlight fixed, cause the auto light sensor is too dark for me.
I'd have to rate it a 2 on your scale (1 to 1.5 days) but the scale really does depend on usage.
My normal usage would be:
Under an hour of calls in any 24 hour period
5 to 10 sms messages,
Reading through approx 20 mails,
Browsing for 30 mins to 1 hour,
Calendar Usage 20 mins
Catching up on Twitter Messages 20 mins
MyPhone sync daily
Evernote - 20 to 30 mins
Other - 20 mins
I have automatic downloading set as follows:
gmail - as mail arrives
hotmail (Windows Live) - every 15 mins
Twitter - every 15 mins
Weather - every 1 hour
Stocks - every 30 mins
My 3G has been connected for 28hrs 21mins - I think its connected almost 24/7
My charging schedule is most nights from 11pm through 6am and would never normally plug it into a PC during the day as mostly everything is done via 3G / HSDPA.
I never use WiFi.
Hope all that helps...
EDIT: Having read what I've written I'd ask me the question - If you charge every night how do you rate it at 1 to 1.5 days ? - the answer is that sometimes I forget to charge it and have (a few times) made it from 6am (after taking off charge) through to 6pm after work the next day....
I think it's amazing how well it lasts given what it is. Frankly I've got used to charging all phones daily even old Nokias that could last 4 days on limited use. At work I usually top up from laptop and if I'm gone for a long day by train I usually take the proporta usb charger.
If it lasts 18 hours of typical use that is fine.
I left mine on last night .. yes .. doing nothing but it only lost a few percent over 15 hours. It is now nearly 24 hours later and it is still on 62% .. only a few calls .. background pop 3, weather, 90mins web - in a poor gprs signal area for half of that. Yes .. that doesn't compare to an E71 that can stay on doing nothing for a week but who cares. If you need predictability .. top it up each night when you go to bed and you should never have an issue. This is no different from my 3970, 4700, 2750, Tytn, Tytn II or TP2 .. it's a high end pda .. face it .. it needs daily food. That shouldn't an issue unless your stuck in the wilderness.
Paul
if i make heavy use of it.
hspda on constantly.
playing movie 30mins
wifi for around 60mins
calls for 45mins
email check every hr
weather check every hr
from 8am to 11pm i get it down to 18% battery left.
light use.
hspda only on every now and then
no movies
wifi for 30mins
calls 30mins
email manual check about 5 times
weather manual check 4 times
from 8am to 11pm battery remaining is 63%.
so from a personal usage point of view, basically 2-3 days. Not bad IMHO.
I have two HTC batteries, the original and a new spare. I have treated them in the same way and the new spare lasts 20% longer most of the time! So the new spare is the main battery now! I pobably have the following use pattern and I have 40-50% battery left at the end of the day:
- Web about 40 minutes
- Calls about 8-10
- Email sync about 10 times a day
- Other general use (high as i spend a lot of time showing others the HD2) - 30 minutes
Always on 3G or HSDPA
Thanks you guys so much, really helpful for me
So, from your experience, I can say that averagely, HD2 battery can last for roughly 1.5 - 2 days with normal usage. It's not so impressive but I agree with pgamble "it's a high end pda .. face it .. it needs daily food"
I'll get HD2 on Nov 30, so tired waiting for that day to come
I have an HD myself (the old 1), and my battery problems started when using myPhone. Even though it was set to synch at 0400 in the morning, I think the app stays active during the day/when it's not synching, and it uses a lot of battery life.
Try turning it Off. Not just setting it to Manual, but Stop using it in the app. Worked for me.
I had a great experience on stock WWE East Europe ROM, almost 2 days with WiFi constantly ON, push e-mail, auto updates of weather and facebook and etc. I applied power management cab
With 1.48 WWE East Europe, it was very bad, less than 24 hours. Same thing happened with 1.43 WWE East Europe that I downloaded from HTCPedia

mine is less than 1 day
in fact, it's close to 12 hours
without any major task such as internet browsing, it could last for 1 day or more , with regular phone calling and texting.
with major tasks, my rough estimate is
pdf browing (very enjoyable on 4.3" screen) about 1 hour uses 30% battery
listening to music, 1 hour about 10%
movies on coreplayer, 1 hour about 30%
internet browsing, using HSDPA, 1 hour about 30%
as you can see, heavy usage drains it fast
however, my settings are 70% backlight fixed, cause the auto light sensor is too dark for me.

I go pretty much the same point as hyann
and I am a little bit disappointed with the battery life time, ok it is a 1MHz proc, ok it got a magnific 4.3' screen but HTC sold us different stats, like 8hours video (no way), 12 hours music (hardly) and so on...
Anyway I am still happy and ready to buy a spare battery when available
To me it looks like user profile impacts heavily on battery life. But i've noticed also a very slow charging
process, as if regular USB ports and chargers don't fit the Leo demands.
After a normal day usage charging on the car craddle, Usb connected at office, etc., mi HD never returned home below 80% LEO never makes it above 60%, that's a big difference to me.
Regards.

That's almost twice the capacity of the original!
The standard is 1230 mAh... That should make quite some difference...

I just bought HD2 yesterday and what I noticed is that the phone heats up very much when I'm using it. And the battery comes down very fast - I think it has something to do with the heat.
What is the situation with your phones? Does it heat up also (especially lower part of the phone)?

It depends upon usage. If I've been playing games for a while then the back can get a little warm but most of the time it stays cool. I'd expect the battery to deplete faster if you're doing something hardware intensive that's heating the phone up.
In general, I'm very happy with the battery life. I can get much more than a days usage out of the battery which is more than I expect from such a well specced phone with a smallish battery.

I note that Devicewire aren't expecting any stock until March and the car kit isn't due until some time in January. It's a shame that HTC couldn't have done a better job of having accessories available at launch.
Saw this on one of the Hong Kong forums... I will go pick one up some time.... I only need to put this somewhere for emergency use...

What's the point? You can get an official 1230 mAH instead of this smaller 1100 mAH one if you just need an emergency replacement.
As we all know, most phones battery like are far less than manufacturers say they are.
I checked several sites but nothing mentions battery in the real world, talk time or standby.
I really want to get a Dell Streak after the weekend but would like to know from Dell Streak users how the battery really is...
at the moment I have the HTC HD2 & the HTC Desire... Both give me 2-4 days of battery. With heavy use 2 days, and with little use 3-4 days.
How is the battery on the dell streak? Should it be at least 2 days, then that's good enough!!
I get no more than 1 day out of my streak. I use it for data only (no voice calls). I use mainly wifi (switch off data connection when on wifi) and rarely have GPS on. I don't mind this as it is a small price to pay for the benefits ... mainly a gorgeous massive screen. I'm sure its possible to stretch it's use to more than 1 day, but on average I'd say it needs a daily charge
hi m8!
i own a streak and all i can say is:the battery is really good.depends how much you use it...i even played on it 5-6 hours(heavy games and browser, installing, downloading etc)
but normal day usage(like dialling, messages) you get more than 15 hrs off usage.
i charged my streak over night to 100%...in the morning i went to work and i left it home on stand by for 10 hrs and when i come back home the battery was still 100%(no battery drainage in standby mode)
outdoor brightness is the best...beats even latest iphone!(i think this is important)
the final conclusion is:battery is good!
(im saying this because i own a hd2 and the baterry is crap)
cheers.
jvc.
I get about a day and a half out of mine sometimes 2 days depends on how its used i was ill for three days and it was at 80% 3 days later i had only looked at it twice and the battery was at 69% after 3 days so not bad in my book, a lot better than any HTC phone i have had

Cheers for that jvc, nice to know the battery is good when not used a lot.
I will only use the dell streak for light voice calls and the odd text message.
My HD2 battery is nothing special, 2-3 days if I'm lucky and that#s with very little use...
I'm a heavy user of my streak, surfing, reading, videos, txting, installing/uninstalling apps etc even streaming audio via 3g. In that scenario, about 6-8 hours.
I installed juice defender, which basically turns off data connections when the screen is locked, this bumps heavy usage to 9+ hours.
On regular day (reading RSS feeds, e-mail & txt, this forum etc) with juice defender on and periods of inactivity it last 17 hours no bother.
Approx full charge time is a out 3 hours.

For those of you who want to improve battery life, go to market place on your phone, type in Advanced Task Killer.
You will see several different ones, look for the one that is like a small green man with a BLUE x in the middle.
I actually have that program on my HTC Desire & it REALLY makes a huge difference, i'd say a 30-40% improvement.
What the program actually goes is close any running apps that take power, ram, resources, etc...
Basically, everytime you lock your phone, the program automatically ends all running programs in the backround which then drastically improves battery life.
Let me know if any of you have a similar program or your opinions about this one.
Here is how it looks:

task killers have a adverse affect on the streak.
i use setcpu and get about 28hrs from a single charge. device usage med/high
I would not recommend using task killers on the streak (and, tbh, they're pretty pointless on all android phones) as it tends to kill the simtoolkit which causes data loss and no signal until you reboot. I think there's something else as well, because if you add the toolkit to exceptions it still kills the signal after a while.
Back on topic: mid/heavy usage i can get almost 2 days out of it. That's pretty good in my opinion
Hmmm, strange how everyone does not recommend the task killers...
I too agree many of them are utter rubbish and cause complications.
I have tried around 4-5 different ones on my htc desire.
All were crap apart from the one I listed above. It never gave me any trouble nor interference with anything at all, only increased battery life & increased ram as it forces other programs to close.
Supposing you were fiddling about with your phone for a bit, say some music, pictures, internet, etc...
You then lock your phone, all the programs you just played with are now draining your battery and you can see the list of running apps in task manager...
The above program will simply close all the programs you were running when you lock the screen.
It does not interfere with anything at all and really improves battery.
There is no harm to try it, for me I think it's a must have program...

dell have recently publish artical about task killer .i have posted before they are not good at all as anderiod is task killer itself when device struggle for RAM it will close the idle process. To prove it try this trick
Open ur kill manager and kill all the app and check same time ur network will go off for flash of sec . it wont happen everytime but most of time in my case & another thing is with task killer contacts gets messy as it kill process.contact so might wanna keep eye on it as well
sorry about spell mistake as typing from netbook .....they are shyt lol

@kanej2006
You do realise that until you have no free RAM having more free Ram makes absolutely no difference to your devices performance it's just sitting there doing nothing and being wasted. If you want to see what is happening to your Ram on running and inactive programs check out System Panel Lite which is free in the market and will show you in great detail.
Most of the time i will have 12-15 Active programs and 20-25 Inactive programs and still have about 100mb of free Ram so really fail to see the need to keep shutting things down. Which would mean when i do want them its going to take them longer and use more power to load again as opposed to just becoming active from being inactive.
I've had my Streak for nearly two months now and have never used a Task killer usually my battery after 16 hrs has any where from 28%-48% left depending on how heavily i have used it. I have Push E-Mail running 16hrs a day on two accounts everything but GPS and Bluetooth are on all the time as i turn these two things on only when needed and turn WiFi off when none is available and also always have 3G on also.
I have found the battery life to be excellent on the Streak especially considering just how big and bright the screen is i am actually really surprised at how good the screen is in sunlight as it's easily the best performance I've seen on any device.
Marc
juice defender made my streak last long 2 days
well pleased with this free app
I've been using App Killer Advanced for the last few days, and although not recommended by several others here, I've used to software before without any problems...
I also have an average of 290mb of free ram which really increases my battery life.
Crikey most days I struggle to get a day. I find any widget sucks juice, I had 4 going the other day and didn't make it to lunch time.
Remove widgets and notifications on apps that you don't need then I get a day easily. I like the idea of two days I'll try that app

i think thats normal, mine does that too and afaik the old droid did the same thing.
I found I was able to about double my battery life by setting my brightness manually to about 10%. I've found this to be plenty of illumination in just about any situation unless I'm trying to view my phone outside.
A nice brightness widget I've found is called "Brightness Level."
Could it just be a case of "new gadget syndrome" ? The D2 is my sixth Android phone, and they all seem to suffer from this "bug" when I first get them.

haha yeah cause you have to set everything up and download all your apps and such so its a huge battery drain there.
but back to the OT of course the screen/display uses the most amount of power on your phone and what you are seeing there is normal.
your battery life seems pretty good if after 7 hours you still have over 1/2 your battery
I gotta say, i couldn't disagree more.
Look at my signature, i've had quite a few Androids and so far they've all been horrible. But even though i'm gonna get the fascinate, I don't think i'll beat the battery life on the droid2. I've been VERY impressed with this phone's battery life. All of the Android phones i've had were lucky to get 18-24 hours of battery life with moderate use. The galaxy S's did better than the EVO, but the droid 2 has been the winner in this department.
On the EVO, i typically got 10-16 hours
On the GAlaxy S's, i was gettin 18-28 hours
On the Droid2 i've been getting 33-55 hours
All have the same 1400mh battery and i use them all the same way.
My phone is currently on 50 hours without plugging it in. (i have an app for that) and it was only at 90% when i unplugged it.
well there was that test done a couple of weeks ago that found the DroidX and Droid2 to be above the normal

Sgs has a 1500 mah
Display is always the biggest energy user by far on my Droid 2 and I have the brightness turned down to about 5% and I am no longer using a live wallpaper...I can't think of what else it could be?
I guess after having the evo, I've grown used to conserving battery. Here is what I do. Not use live wallpaper, turn on things like wifi and bluetooth when not using them. And use a task manager to kill everything when turning it off.
My Droid 1 and now Droid X always have 50% or more of there battery tied to display. My Droid X is typically much higher than 50% as matter of fact mine is 72%. With most typically batter drains turned off I got 20 hours or so on my Droid X. That is because I listen to music and FM radio 2 hours a day.
i just checked mine and its at 18%
It is also a sign that you don't have any other apps that are eating a lot of battery. My D1 and now my D2 both look like that.
The only time my D1 was different was when I:
a) Installed an app that was poorly written and consumed a lot of battery life.
b) Spent most of the day with the screen off but music playing (MP3 or Pandora)
c) Had a horrible signal so the Radio took up a much larger percentage than normal looking for a signal
I just leave my display settings low and then use the Power Control widget to spike up the brightness if needed be.

how did you get such good battery life on your droid 2? please share your secrets.
I get somewhere between 30-40 hours of battery life and that's with running Pandora or listening to a podcast for at least 45 mins over 3G every work day (I walk during lunch for exercise).
- I'm rooted.
- I've set my backlight to 10%.
- I've renamed the following apps (adding .bak) so they never run:
AdService.apk.bak
amazonmp3_1.8.11_signed_zipaligned.apk.bak
Blockbuster.apk.bak
CityID.apk.bak
DLNA.apk.bak
DlnaSystemService.apk.bak
FriendFeed.apk.bak
HomeSyncWizard.apk.bak
Mynet.apk.bak
- I set weather to update only every 6 hours.
- I check Twitter and Facebook every now and then but I have them set to only update when they run.
- I don't run any widgets that constantly update (like twitter, weather, etc.)
- I download RSS feeds and podcasts whenever I'm charging the phone (though I usually have more than enough battery to handle a daily feed update and download over 3G without any problem)
- I manually enable and disable GPS and WiFi since they have a tendency to look for signals for no reason. It only takes a second or two to connect to known hotspots or get my location so it's no biggie to me to do that by hand.
- I back up my data at 2am or so daily so there's a good chance that every other backup is done while charging.

Just barely rooted my Droid 2. I dont really have much of an idea of what to do with it now, though. How do I go about renaming those apps? I've always wanted to get rid of that crap.
Snag Root Explorer or some other root-permission-enabled file explorer from the market for a few bucks or use adb if you're familiar with it and want a free way to manipulate files on the /system partition.
I'll assume you go with an app like Root Explorer (well worth it, in my mind).
Open Root Explorer and hop into the /system/app directory. Click the "Mount R/W" button so that the /system partition is writable.
Find any .apks you do not want and long-press on the file until you get a menu. Choose "Rename" and either rename the .apk to .bak or just add .bak to the filename. As long as the file extension no longer reads ".apk", it won't be a program the phone can launch.
Note: Be careful about renaming some of the Blur .apks, as a few still seem to be required for normal phone function. Check other threads on "removing bloat" for some tips and more detailed warnings.
I also highly recommend renaming files instead of deleting them because it provides some options if something ever goes awry or you simply want to re-enable something you removed during the rename process. The multitude of "Oops I deleted somethingImportant.apk! Anyone have it?" threads offer their own words of caution, I'd say.
Good luck!
Is renaming better than freezing?
OK after i got my Arc S i already saw better battery than my old X10.
but after a while it started to get all "android" on me again in terms of ****ty battery.
after using better battery stats and digging all the web for solutions on the subject (yes i got pretty obsessed about battery ever since i had android), i've pretty much found out 3 simple stuff that pretty much takes up most of your battery on standby and even actual use of an android phone.
before i did that i woke up 8 hours later just to find out that at night on standby my battery ran from 100% to 86-90% when i woke up. (on my x10 i woke up with 76-80% lol)
keep in mind im a very heavy usage user on my android and i do literally EVERYTHING ON IT.
anyway 3 simple stuff to do:
1. log out of latitude, drains the battery like crazy.
2. disable auto sync for gmail, contacts and regular email (i use hotmail so i use the email app, dont have gmail)
3. be connected to your home or office wi-fi as much as possible.
keep in mind i do have whatsapp in the background and other regular apps that still ran as a service but they dont drain battery much apparently (i thought they were always the problem btw)
i unplugged my arc s from the charger with 100% fully charged battery at 4am and went to sleep..
..woke up 11 hours later at 3pm (yes weird day lol), had 18 missed calls, 6 sms messages and 5 voicemails which means the phone had the screen on for each call and the speaker played my ringtone every call and sms and even voicemail notification plus i had my alarm clock which i kept pressing the snooze on..
i was amazed to be with 96% after 11 hours!!!!! OMG
at the same day at 11pm i was left with 27% battery after all day had 1:20 hours voice calls, 2:50 hours screen display on.
i was also outside and im always on 3g and also used my gps on google maps for about 20 min.
finally happy about my frikin battery on my android device !!

"If you want to save battery on your smart phone, don't use it as a smart phone."
Of course background services will use energy, but I have them on for a reason.
The best battery saving tips (for those who use their phones)are brightness and keep an eye out of resource hogs and unwanted background services (Facebook app).
I found that rooting and removing all the bloat-ware vastly improved my battery life as it gave more RAM which meant my phone had to do less memory management.

If you have a android and have done the registration on the first time, you have a GMAIL acc.
Btw, add this solution. Works for every phone.
- Go to WiFi & network settings > Mobile Network > Networkmode > Set it to "ONLY GSM"
this will make the mobile-antenna to find one connection and stand there (Mostly this gives the best signal strenght), but the WCDMA and WCDMA/GSM will search for other connections all the time and consume more battery
the only negative side with GSM is that your calls will connect 1~2 sec. slower compared to WCDMA and if you fall out of the signal range, youre out untill the antenna finds new one (but the strenght is good so dont worry)

Or you can set it to WCDMA only. Setting it to GSM only would be disadvantageous as most smartphone users need a data plan and 3G has far better internet speed.
Turning off the auto sync helped me a lot. I just manually check my email at regular intervals.

Seiously, these are all the most obvious "battery tweaks". Tose are the first things that would come up in my mind...
I can safely say it's not a definite solution.
Most if not have already turned the Auto sync off.
Latitude for most users doesn't run to start with and even in some cases not even
installed.
Wifi and HSPA is a given this is pretty much ON all the time for most since were power users. (6gb data plan) can't complain for 20$.
Bluetooth in some cases but rare.
Full charge your phone and if your a power user within 14 to 16hours your usually left with about 10% battery usage.
Take into consideration that this is a rooted Xperia Arc S with bootloader locked.
If I leave it alone fully charge when I go to bed and wake up in the morning I usually have about 7% gone in roughly 8hours of standby that is taking into account your have the standard 1500mah battery.
I would highly suggest getting the 1700mah MUGEN battery it's worth the extra 50$. May not make much difference for some but it does for other.

Or you can set it to WCDMA only. Setting it to GSM only would be disadvantageous as most smartphone users need a data plan and 3G has far better internet speed.
Turning off the auto sync helped me a lot. I just manually check my email at regular intervals.

OMG
at the same day at 11pm i was left with 27% battery after all day had 1:20 hours voice calls, 2:50 hours screen display on.
i was also outside and im always on 3g and also used my gps on google maps for about 20 min.
finally happy about my frikin battery on my android device !!
edit:
my setup:
custom gingerbread rom with ice cream theme,
locked bootloader,
rooted,
supercharged V6

Nothing new actually. In standby/idle mode I loose hardly 4-5% in 7 hours during night.
These are the most common battery tweaks.
In fact if the phone is alive (with 10% left) after 20 hours of heavy use, then i am happy.
With my Rooted device with 0.58 firmware, i get a 18-20 hours [brightness set to 40% always] of heavy using that includes, 2hrs of browsing on WiFi, 2 hrs of music, 40 mins HDGame, 2-3 hours voice call, 30-40 mins of video (occasional) and i check email in every hour and and reply, so that's good for me.
I appreciate you sharing your advice, but there are some points that are not so convenient and here is why:

Why not leave the phone plugged in while you're sleeping?
Stock Arc battery has overcharging protection, which means that there is no risk harming it if you leave it on charger for 8-10 hours.
It will charge to 100%, then decrease to 95% and start charging again.
As a matter of fact, those small charge cycles can turn out to be beneficial for the new technology Li-Pol batteries.

Agreed.
But there are cases when people use Latitude to their convenience.
For example, I tend to leave it on while travelling and I've taught my father how to use it on his (my old) X10 so that he won't have to call me all the time to see where I am.

Now that just doesn't make any sense.
One of the major Android features is that you can get your Gmail messages instantly and, in some cases, even substitute text messaging altogether.
I have 3 Gmail accounts on my phone and they are in autosync 24/7, because otherwise my phone is pretty much as useful as a Nokia S40 phone.
Not to mention that polling (refresh at a specified rate) drains way more battery than push notifications which Gmail utilises.

Agreed.
Especially in low signal areas, WiFi can save battery because the phone doesn't constantly trying to establish data connection. However, forgetting to turn WiFi off when leaving your home or office hotspot range can result in even bigger drain, as the phone will intermittently look for available WiFi hotspots.

Personally, I feel you are sacrificing vital features just to stall your battery meter.
This is not as wise as you make it appear to be, because if each one of us carefully considers it, we will realise that there are very few hours within the day that a plug is not accessible. We have cars -there are car chargers, we are at home -obviously there are sockets, we are at the office -there are PCs thus USB ports. Heck, I've even charged my phone on a DVD player with a USB port in a presentation room once! In my opinion, it's about time we stop whining about how "our old phones lasted a week even if we were playing Snake all day" and adopt new charging habits.
Then again, how one uses their phone, it's their business.
However, the thread title can be considered misleading, as I reckon your advice is respectable, but in no way a widely applicable solution.
If I'm staying over at a bud's place/gf's place and have no charger/microusb handy, or I'm out and battery is running low, I do one thing:
1. Turn off data (I use a nice on-screen toggle for this).
This alone lets my battery last faaaaar longer.
Why dont you but a nokia 3310 and stop whining?
the reason we buy these phones is cause of the amount of things we do on them. disabling these features is just pointless and turns the phone back intoa dumb phone
