the neoprene case. - Nexus One General

can you wash it? in in the washer and dryer?

It's neoprene, so I would say yes. Although I would just handwash it.

Hand wash with mild dish soap and a wet cloth...hang it out to dry

Like others have said.. handwash with a little soap. I would use something milder than dish soap so any adhesive doesn't degrade.

Oh I miss that case. I dropped mine somewhere... Is it possible to buy it anywhere?

wow I want some lol wouldn't let it go near my nexus though.. Anyone tried it on anything?
Its alcohol based and water free so it can't cause shorts, the only damage a cleaner is likely to do
whats the point when your phone will get dirty the next time you unlock the screen or answer the phone when it place on your face? marketing gimmick at it's finest!

Uh... actually dirt and oils build up on devices after prolonged use. Wiping off the phone doesn't take everything off. Using the foam cleaner would take off all the buildup that results from use.
I'd use it...then just wipe it off regularly and use the foam once a month or so to disinfect and take off the grime buildup. Not sure about dropping $20 on it though.
Sounds good...I like my N1 clean & shiny!
I've heard you can just put a few drops of rubbing alcohol on your phone and rub till it dries for 1/100000000th of the price....

I bought an adjustable spray bottle... the type with the screw nozzle to adjust from a stream to a mist. A FINE mist of alcohol works great... but foam is nifty. Anyway, I started doing that after trying Pledge for Electronics. It's obvious it's mostly alcohol.

should i disassemble to get water out?

I got some moisture under the touchscreen and it doesn't work. Should i try to take it off to get it dried up? If yes, anyone know how to do it correctly?
Thanks.
Dissassemble it, and then place all the parts in DRY, uncooked rice. The rice will help absorb moisture

Someone who took their's apart said the screen (under the glass) had some sticky coating on it. So I would think rice would be a no go maybe compressed air.
Ahh ok. Hmm, I'd try putting it in an oven with the door open at a very low heat for awhile. I've heard from some people on a forum I used to visit that it works a charm.
Just bury it in Rice for 2 days. Don't take it apart.

silicon packets (like what you get inside of shoes and new hard drives, RAM DIMMs, etc.) are significantly better than rice. Rice gets dust everywhere

Do you know of any local places you can buy these? I know the people at bladeforums store their Carbon knives with these in them to keep rust away.
Thanks everyone.

Sure. Should i gently funnel it into the circuitry or build a sand castle for it and let it sit there for a few days?

Ive noticed you just have to be very clear for some users around here.
Not trying to be a douche...
But when you go ask for silicon they might look at you funny, what you are actually looking for is "silica" the deseccant..

lol, at 90% of PSP hacking forums, this was the highest recommended suggestion for getting water out. I didn't hear of anyone screwing it up by doing it.

Make sure you keep the door OPEN, and the temp LOW a toaster oven would be better, and set the rack as high as it can go. I'm guessing since the case on this phone feels so tacky it must have a low melting point.
Moisture just dried but screen still not working... could this be a software issue now?
i had this happen to me a few years ago when the psp first came out. but i had split alot of soda on mines. I just had put it by the fan and let it dry it over night. Came back in the morning and it was working great. But you can see water marks in the screen.

Nexus One survives it's SECOND SWIM

I dropped the slippery little sucker into the bathtub last night... took it out, popped the battery out, dropped everything into a gallon ziplock baggie full of rice.
fired it up this morning, it initially went into the bootloader for some reason, i rebooted and it came up fine! everything works!
bag of rice, it just WORKS!
Congratulations.
Why the hell were you using it in your bathtub? I'd never put my phone near large amounts of water like that!
Nice big screen, soapy bubbles... Light some candles, you could have a good night if you know what I mean
haha... in my defense, i had just returned from an out of town business trip, and on my way thru the airport to the car, i turned my ankle, so i was filling the jacuzzi tub to soak my ankle, had the phone in my hand as i leaned over to turn off the water.. wasn't exactly thinking clearly.
2nd Swim?!?!? Wow! Lucky you...go play the lotto! Oh, too late probably...used up all your luck on the Nexy...LoL!
Cool story, bro.

Really man? I suggest trying to meet some Turkish or Iranian chicks then. Muy caliente!
These phones are notorious for not surviving "swims", but lately I've been hearing otherwise. For instance:
A buddy of mine has a MT3G and while leaning into the backseat to do something for his son, his phone slipped off of his lap and into his girlfriend's large sweet tea from McD's. He didn't even notice, for several minutes, until he took a sip from said tea.
His phone was floating in tea for minutes, and the only thing wrong with it is the battery doesn't hold a charge anymore. That's it.

It will absorb water at any temperature, just a lot slower than if it were hot.

for the same reason your grandmother put rice in the salt shaker and the sugar bowl. it absorbs the excess moisture.
silica desiccant would work better, but who has a big bag of that lying around?

Screen cleaning with rubbing alcohol.

Hi everyone. I have a question about cleaning my nexus 4's screen with rubbing alcohol. I work in a butcher shop and needless to say my hands get pretty dirty throughout the day, and I do check my phone periodically.
I know there are coatings on a lot of phones today to prevent fingerprints from building up. I was wondering if it would be detrimental to my phone's gorilla glass if I were to use rubbing alcohol to clean it.
I can't really find any definitive answers online other than, "Oh yeah! Go ahead!" or "NNNOOOOO!!!" So if anyone has had any experience with this could you weigh in?
Or, if not rubbing alcohol, does anyone know if any other disinfecting cleaners I could use?
Thanks.

Some LCD wipes from Bestbuy/Target/Supermarket?
Or some Zeiss Lens wipes (which I'm using) if you want be careful.

I clean all of my devices daily with a 1:1 mixture of water and rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. Cheap as hell and works great.

Use a soft microfiber cloth. Detergents and chemicals may over time damage the oleophobic surface. I highly suggest not using your phone when your hands are contaminated with grease and organic matter from butchering.

Yeah, I usually use a microfiber cloth that came with another device. I normally just use water out diluted windex. Clean often though and thoroughly. I clean my screen and even the back and when charging I lie out down in the original box.
Never touch the screen if you have dirty hands or when you do go to clean it you could end up wiping a grain of sand or in your case bone.. haha
Oh yeah, rubbing alcohol is fine if diluted heavily. Don't use it straight. It is way to corrosive if there is a coating on the glass. If there is no coating though I don't see oy causing any harm.
Is that determined guys? Are we stating for a fact that there is a coating on the glass on the nex 4?

Brilliant! Let me clarify a bit. I'm not saying I'm covered in blood and guts constantly as I use my phone. I wash my hands tonnes of times a day. Is just the fact that there is a general disgustingness to the place which is impossible to avoid until you walk out the door. If I'm going to put my phone on my pillow for example, or any other surface I'd rather not have that same disgustingness, I'd like it to be clean.

Some of them do as far as I recall.
i'd imagine the alcohol would strip some of the coating. why not use dish soap?
Heavily diluting running alcohol sound like a good option.
I used to clean my iPhone 4s with straight alcohol. Mostly because I hated it and didn't care about losing my screen's coatings.
I'm trying to keep better care of this puppy.
Thanks for the help so far.

I use eye glasses cleaner a micrfiber cloth...
I tried contacting Corning and asked them, they wouldn't answer. All they said was the best way to clean it was with a micro-cloth or any common household glass cleaner may also be used.
My question was directly alcohol wipes and when I asked them again, they didn't bother to reply.
I lick mine.
But really, rubbing alcohol solution (that is, diluted) should be fine.
I would use the same as the lcd cleaners
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
First off... avoid rubbing alcohol as it includes additives such as (camphor oils, etc.). Go to your pharmacy and get the highest percentage (97%+) of isopropyl alcohol you can find and dilute it with distilled water. This is cheap, and will be an effective disinfectant, but may attack any coatings on the glass over time.
A more gentle method might be to just use a solution of distilled water and a few drops of an antimicrobial dish soap like Dial. This would certainly be easier on the coatings, but don't really know how effectively it will disinfect.
If you really handle your phone with hands that have just handled raw meat, you might consider looking for some small ziplock bags that fit as close as possible and see how your phone operates in one. My guess is the touchscreen will still work, and then you can just dispose of them after work.
+1 for isopropyl alcohol (IPA), it's what used to clean lab-grade camera lenses.

Wear watches beach safe?

So I'm going to the beach soon and I've been wanting to pick one of these watches up past couple weeks. Still waiting for best buy to get them. Now I know these watches are NOT waterproof so I will not be bring it into the water, but as far just sitting on the beach. I know they're water resistant so a little splash of water shouldn't be harmful. But what about salt water and sand itself? Can these watches sustain these elements? thanks

thanks for link and suggestion. yeah I figured sand would definitely risk scratching it, but I'd be sure make sure my hands were clean when using. I really just wanted to be able to change music and get all my email and music without taking my phone out. Not getting just for the beach, but kinda my excuse to go ahead and get one now Been wanting one of these watches for awhile. Just wanted to make sure that if sand or salt water did get it on it, it'd be okay internally. I'm guessing rinsing it off with clean water would be smart if salt water does get on it?
