I like it.
I think it's running an updated or customized version of SPB MS.

I think it definitely runs SE Panel customized for Aspen.
However standard SPB is preloaded.

As you can read on MS website
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/6-1/default.mspx
Today microsoft has launched Windows mobile 6.1
i also read this news on an italian portal (pockepcitalia) but theu say that HTC will release the update only for the TYTN II....
but why?
So the best feature IMO the sliding panel, is missing from the touch screen version of WM 6.1 nice
Well that link is for smartphone anyways,
but yes, pda 6.1 isn't that much of an upgrade, while smartphone version is.
that's my opinion, too
WM6.1 on PDAs is not more than a facelift.

A very light facelift!
well, actually not only a facelift.
I enjoy very much the zoom out in PIE and also the new chat like view of the SMS
And the embedded task manager too

No, WM6.1 more faster then WM6.0
And more stability.
@Henry_Lee
Do you know that for sure or do you assume that only?

I test WM6.0 original ROM and WM6.1
And I tried it also at HTC P3450. The same results.

I take this with a grain of salt. The OS always seems faster when re-loaded for the first time.

Yep...still too soon. I have done my share of OS upgrading too. Use it for a month or more then compare that device with a WM 6.0 device side by side.

You may be right on this. I also realized, that WM6.1 seems to have
optimized kernel and so be faster in response. So i confirm, that WM6.1
also in my opinion is "better" than WM6.0. My former statement of the
facelift was regarding to the optical appearance of WM6.1 on PDA devices
in comparison to the optical improvements of the Smartphone version.
Hope that made it clear
Olioaglio
As you can see there aren't that many updates from 6.0 to 6.1. But everything can run faster and better. (Hope so)

I rebooted my Orbit2 about one time per week.
I think 1-2 day enoght for stability of all cashes and good time for testing.

It's not even sure if HTC will release a WM6.1 upgrade for the Touch Cruise.
Being patient is all what you can do, or use a custom rom
when I have qtek was very simple on official site was everything rom's e.t.c. but for htc e-club zero....
and wm 6.5 for ours jewel????????
is possible??????
NO...because 6.5 - as known by now - will only support Touchscreen Devices.
If you find a Touchscreen on your Rose....you can test it
Greetings from Cologne,

There IS version of WM 6.5 for non touch screen devices (Standard).

Then it's not really 6.5 is it
Yes it is WM 6.5 . Look at the central screen. Then, the menu is different from WM 6.1.
I'm not really informed on this subject, what's new in WM 6.5 and does it make any sense of upgrading (advantages/disadvantages)?
htc will be releasing a 6.5 std upgrade for this device............ just alarmed at the lack of dev in this forum

Wow, If that is true then we have all been miss-informed or HTC changed thier mind? If they are going to release a 6.5 upgrade, news to most of us, good news.....Can you confirm where you heard this tidbit of information?
Thanks
Hy!
We will get NO Rom-Update for Rose....only Snap gets Updated.....that Sucks!
I have Ask the HTC Support.....
Sorry for my English.....
Hello guys.
I was wondering will HTC give us a new rom but with new WM 6.5.3 like other new devices that coming out soon. It would be very nice to have this new stock rom with that OS on it? Without any bugs or problems like coocked ROMs does?
Did anyone mail HTC or heard rumors about it? Thanks!
Uhm, I might be very wrong here but isn't WinMo 6.5.3 in the 1.66-ROMs?

Bit of a bold statement. I'll personally be suprised if we don't see 6.5.3 or 6.5.5 released for the HD2. It'll be the consellation "prize" when they tell us that we're not officially getting WM7.
I think that they must give us 6.5.3/5 version, because it will be perfect choice for HD2. Excellent hardware + new finger friendly OS = bingo. Best performance and autonomy for us users, and then we dont need any WM 7 or similar toys...
cheers
Hi All
There is a rom for the HD Mini allready in the HD Mini section! Can someone get the dialer out of it and port it WVGA? And anything else you find interesting in it!

Unfortunately the rom that is available at this moment doesn't run WM 6.5.3 but WM 6.5 (build 21613)
This is cruel!
Oh well... I guess that we will have to wait a little longer for it! Thanks for the info anyway. BTW Can someone tell me an alternative dialer app that is good to be used? I've been searching for a long time but I can't find anything that I like enough!

Don't you like the current dialer? If you are looking for a fix of the button-overlap problem, I don't think that this will be fixed by a port of the Mini dialer anyway. I think that this will be solved by the new lay-out of the bottom-bar (toolbar) of the Mini.

Hi Russell, thanks for your email.
I do not know where these network assistants got this information as it is not correct. The official answer is that "We are working closely with Microsoft on Windows Phone 7 Series and look forward to releasing new handsets which will use the new OS." reading between the lines, it would seem therefore that the answer would be no.
There are many reasons for this, not least Steve Ballmers announcement that "no current handsets will be upgraded", Also 7 Series is NOT an upgrade to 6.5. Microsoft is releasing it as a totally new and separate OS from the exisiting Windows Mobile versions. 6.5 will continue to be developed, even after 7 will be available, to offer two different OS versions for different needs. 6.5 will remain more business orientated, and for devices with OS skins on them (Like the HD2 which uses our Sense skin), and 7 Series for new, more media and social based handsets, which will not be skinned.
Therefore, I can only recommend that if you specifically want 7, you will need to wait for it to be available on new handsets If the HD2 meets your needs, then i would consider buying it anyway, as the 6.5.x software will continue to be developed even after 7 is released.
Best regards,
Pete W

nice/fast/stable
It's running nice/fast/stable on my gf's hd2, but it looks a bit dated once you've tried some of the 6.5.3 roms. Are Microsoft not releasing 6.5.3 to HTC or something? It's really strange that they don't seem to want to promote advances in the OS when android and the like are getting over the air updates to their phones. Little things like the documents tab and the eReader tab from 6.5.3 (plus the fact it's just that little bit more finger friendly) make it all a bit more exciting to show off.
Gotta love my HD2 though Is it true you can't even change the background picture on an iPhone?

anyone have issues signing into google maps v4.1? since upgrading ROM i can't sign in, even from the default version on the ROM,version 3.2.1. i can sign into my google account online ok. something is wrong with google maps i believe. any help would be appreciated.
Does anyone know what .net framework is embedded in this ROM?
its cool managed to get .net 3.5 installed again, had to uninstall windows mobile device centre and went into program features and it was there to be reinstalled. All good!
updated to this ROM which is now manika 2012, but the home/today screen won't rotate, i thought it should with this version of manila, or is it a feature of never/custom roms?

I believe this is in custom roms only at the mo.
The HD2 should have been fully landscape supported from the start tbh.
