[Q] How to show SMS subfolders in HTC Messages ? - HD2 General

Dear All,
Many of us may use some applications that create subfolders under the main Inbox folder of SMS. This works fine using the standard MS Messages application but as the new HTC interface is becoming the new standard (Sense) including the new HTC Messages application, it doesn't display except the main list of folders (Inbox, Sent items, Deleted, ..).
Is there any way like a hack or registry key to enable these folders ?
TIA

I'm interested too.....

me too!!!
Anyone has figure it out how to create sub-folders in HTC Messaging???

You can't with the HTC messaging client. You have to go back to the original windows sms client to see sub folders. Been there, done that, although I have not tested the latest 1.66 rom to see if things have changed (doubt it).
If you search for Zeynee's cab on here somewhere AND read the thread it is linked to carefully you can change to winmobile sms and get your sub folders back.

I have installed Zeynee's cab on the 1.66 ROM and can confirm it still works.

Copy SMS from Samsung to SEXP1

Hi,
Just bought a XP1 and I want to copy my text messages from my old mobile (Samsung U600) to the Xperia.
I've been trying for a few weeks now but it's just not working so I thought why not ask the experts!
Anybody know any way or any program that can help me do this!!
thanks!!!
you could try the microsoft sync program... i dont remember if it syncs the sms too...
no it doesn't.
do google search or search in this forum, for this little utility program called "PIMBackup". select backup of your messages (if you just want SMS, make sure you set just text messages instead of all messages which include email, etc) and make sure you select your storage card as the backup path.
thanks for the quick help.
But PIMBackup works on the Xperia but I'm trying to copy the textmessages from my Samsung to the Xperia.
Any thoughts?
Doesn't Samsung have a software (like nokia pc suite) that could export all your messages?
Also, look if there's any option on your Samsung that may save your messages on the memory card of the Samsung (if it has a memory slot).
why don't you use Microsoft MyPhone, it's in open beta and you can use it to sync text messages from one WM phone to another...

my bad, I thought you have a samsung winmo phone, but it sounds like you have a samsung phone running on symbian?
if so, your next best bet might be to sync to your outlook using jeyo.
Thanks for the tips..
Gonna try them tomorrow. Right now I only have a mac computer to work on.

SMSSync with Exchange 2010 Tests (2307x Builds)

Dear you,
First of all, i hope this is the right section. Since i'm talking about an issue i found on latest builds, i suppose it is. Moderators feels free to change section if necessary.
I've flashed yesterday my Touch HD trying 3 rom (all 2307x branch) and found always the same issue: when syncing to exchange 2010 everything works but SMSSync.
No way, the sms app seems broken, not only regarding SMSSend button but either SMSSync through EAS (well actually some of them don't even have the SMS native message app).
Everything worked correctly with previous rom (21xxx), i was able to sync and sending messages both from OWA and OL2010.
Can anyone confirm there are issues with the SMS? Any idea on how to solve that?
I know SMSSync through EAS is something pretty new, i'm just stressing that.
NB: I'm using Exchange 2010 RTM, and was working with 21000 branch, this means no issues server side.
cant be much help, but damn - didnt know 2010 RTM'd! i thought it was due in in the next week or 2.
either way - i've heard it's pretty good.
on a more helpful note - have you checked Technet? im sure theres gonna be plenty more people who are in a situation to test SMSsync than on here...
HTC Messaging problem
Stupid HTC. They've released HTC Messaging without even knowing what they were doing..
Actually HTC Messaging Application uses it's own service to deliver/receive SMS in manila 2.5. What's wrong? Well, defaults messaging app from windows mobile is needed as default's sms/MMS provider to deliver SMS to exchange server. Using 3rd parties providers completely removes functionality. I don't know how it works in depth, i'm not a WinMO guru, however after applying zenkinz 1.2 patch, all NEW messages started to correctly sync with exchange 2010. Since only new messages started syncing i belive the winmo default SMS Service writes somewhere what is in need to sync when a message arrives or is sent.
This is a shame: i thought from the first 2307x built the messaging app was completely broken, but it wasn't Microsoft's fault but HTC's!!! I spent a whole weekend about it!!!
Argumentative note: they've released the HTC Messaging along with WinMo 6.5 update: this means they're cutting out SMSSync feature from the beginning. I'm thinking to all those poor IT Pros which are buying an HTC to test sync functionalities. They will end up with an headache.
Please note: Zenkinz patch addresses SMS only. Applying this patch disables MMS functionalities.
You can find Zenkinz patch here (i hope cross posting is allowed this case):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614
Please, can any mod to put a [Solved] tag?
Thanks.
EDIT:
@veehexx: Unfortunately there was no technet to help me, i suppose it's an unsupported scenario. After all, i don't think it was microsoft intention to have it's SMS App completely rewritten by HTC!
I had to use a man-in-the-middle (better service in the middle, LOL) approach to understand winMo side activesync hadn't any knowledge of SMS received/sent.
Oh yes, this is really something I could slap HTC's face for.
How could they replace WM's text messaging and disabling SMSSync with exchange 2010??
I recently bought a HTC HD mini which has WM 6.5.3 and it was impossible to sync SMS until I used Zenyee 1.2 patch. Plus I had to install ArcSoft MMS. Otherwise no MMS could be send/received anymore after the patch.
It works now, but it doesn't feel clean. When I click on a text message in Manila it still opens HTC Messaging to view it. Only if I click on Inbox it goes to Outlook.
Despite all the good work that HTC has done for WM; with HTC Messaging they just overstated the case...
are u using Exchange Active Sync in wireless?
I've found another problem with SMS Sync, any rom, even clean one.
Sending SMS from Outlook or OWA just works 2-3 times before AS process on windows mobile hangs on sync. Soft reset is needed which sometimes means double sending SMS.
I've tried almost everything, disable T9, word correction, no way. It just hangs. I suggest to use SMS Sync to keep messages on your inbox only, not using send feature from anywhere but Windows Mobile. To me, it's something with Windows mobile.
just tried to setup our Exchange Server 2010 and my phone with activesync on wireless and it works like a charm
Randolph2000 can you please try sending some SMS from Outlook or owa using 2G/3G connectivity?
Activesync hangs to me after 2-3 SMS.

So, it would be pointless to write HTC support to fix this...
Anyway, I wrote HTC to include SMS Sync feature on the HD Mini in their HTC Messaging. Let's see what their answer will be.

Guess it's something wrong with some software which come with the rom. Looking on WPsupport forum, there seems to be some issues with predictive text feature, although disabling it won't help at all. I've tweeted the MSExchange Team to have a look. Let's hope something happens.

software to sync SMS between Android and WM?

Hi all,
My decision to start migrating from WM to Android turned up to be be quite a headache. And here is one of the problems.
For next year I intend to use Hero and HD2 at the same time and I will need to have them synchronized. Main issue is to have synced SMS - I have tried and looked for different options but ended up with nothing.
Ways it could have been implemented:
1. Desktop PC software that allows you to sync both Android and WM devices, including SMS.
2. Something like Sprite Migrate, but software that works both ways.
3. Something like My Phone service by MS but works on all platforms
4. Software that will export txts in some common standard like xml. I tried to export with SMS Backup & Restore and to restore it to WM with Jeyo Mobile Companion but formats are different
5. Others: backing up to SIM, trying to use backup created on Android with Sprite Backup on WM, forwarding sms via bluetooth, etc....
So as you can see, I have tried many options but was was unsuccessful. Any other ideas how to transfer sms from WM to Android?
I think you can save your SMS on your SIM card, but idk if android can read them out of the box.
Sync to IMAP and Gmail
Have you tried syncing to IMAP? I use MobiTnT (SMS Mobile Archiver would also work I think) that syncs to Outlook a folder. This folder can be transferred to G-mail, perhaps even automatically. To synk between Android and Gmail, you have the android sms project: http://code.google.com/p/android-sms/wiki/UserGuide
SMS Migrator
- First, down load http: // wince.nasenbaeren.net / smsimport/ to export SMS from WM then copy it into your SDCARD on Android Phone
- Then go to Android Market to download "SMS Migrator"
See more here: http: // a.baole.org/ sms-migrator
Sorry I can not post URL as I'm a new member

Does SMS migrator, give you the option to merge sms? I got 2k+ on my old WM phone and 300+ on my Eris. I know Sprite Migrate was working on this feature, but I don't think they added it yet.
sorry for the late reply, but i switched from wm to android and transferring sms messages from one platform to another was something i wanted to do also.
*note* ive onlly transferred from wm6.1 to android
1. i went to this site (google "import/export move sms") [i cant post links 'cus im still new] and installed SMS Exporter.
2. exported to mmc/harddrive..
3. installed sms backup and restore from android market
4. moved the exported .xml file to the sms backup app folder
5. imported.
hope this helps.

No, SMS Migrator imports sms and automatically creates sms thread for you.
suggestion: use Google Voice. It's awesome, and would allow you to sync stuff
Well. I just used the SPRITE stuff and it worked. The SMS is a little different cause Android uses threaded SMS. You you think not all of the messages are there, but they are. I didn't see any sorting it in maybe except for the subject.
Migrating contacts worked too. But SPRITE says it will wipe old data, but it doesn't. That means I have double contacts.
The WM app starts going nuts when you view the log. You have to reset the device to continue. But this is after the data is stored in a safe place on your WM device.
It doesn't do appointments. Maybe for that I have to use the .pib of Pimbackup the extract to .cvs and read it.
But the software is in beta. At least I converted it.
Found this topic. But I'm gonna work on something myself. I'm gonna try to extract the SMS to a CSV on WinMo. Write a simpel script to create an XML. And that XML I'm gonna import on Android.

Did you ever write something? I now have a few SMS on the Android side of my HD2 which I would like to sync with the Windows side.
With more and more Android builds coming out for the HD2 I would think an app to sync between the two would be awesome.
I cannot agree more with the previous user. Any ideas on how to sync sms between android and wm???

How to add Sense contacts to quick links?

So the question is, I want to use a contacts button that uses the Sense contacts on my quick links rather than have a People's tab. But the problem is when I go through CHT's add/remove I only see the standard winmo contacts (Referring to the app not individual persons). I tried using Resco File Explorer search to see if I could find the .exe but couldn't figure out which one it could be.

I think you have to copy your contacts to the phone because it will not see your sim contacts. I just did what you where wanting to do and it worked...but when I first got my phone I copied all the contacts to the phone and hid the sim contacts and it shows all my contacts and keeps the pictures in the quicklinks icon. Hope this helps
Thanks for the reply, but once again I'm not looking for individual contacts. I'm looking to use the full sense contacts app.

I am confused you are trying to make a quicklink that will take you to the people tab?! You might just want to make the people tab be one of the first ones...not sure what the order you have you tabs in but you can for to start settings personalize homescreen tabs..and move it.

Disable HTC Contacts (NOT messaging!)

I saw many threads on how to disable HTC Messagging, but none on how to disable HTC Contacts.
My problem is that whenever I need to input a new contacts or I want to save a phone number in a outlook contact, the HTC contact shows up...(see first attachment) I wish to disable it and have the default MS Outlook template.
Is there any way to do so?
Thanks
Saulo
The reason why I wish to revert to original MS Outlook form, to input new contacts is very simple:
The HTC input frame cannot allow me to input separately family name and first name!
I have just one field for both ! (see my previous post, attachment nr 2)
Thanks
Saulo
as far as I understand, from replies in another thread, (from Wilco) there are 2 different genuine Microsoft Original contacts input templates
Here is the first (you can see that I can input separately name and family name)
Saulo
...and this is the second original Microsoft Outlook Input pane...(thanks to Wilco for this thumbnail)
both are OK for me...I wish some of you can indicate to me the necessary tweaks, on registry, to kill the HTC contact pane and re-establish one of these 2 Original Microsoft Contacts panes.
2.
In alternative, if there is a cab which automatically can perform the above actions, I will appreciate a lot.
Thanks!
Saulo
You have been misinformed, or have misunderstood. The Contact-form you are trying to remove is NOT the HTC Contacts form. The first "MS Contacts Form" that you posted in post number 3 is, in fact, the normal HTC Contacts-form. The second "MS Contacts Form" that you posted in post number 4 is the standard MS Mobile-Outlook contact form.
The form you are using, as seen in your post number 1, is neither the MS form, nor the HTC form. Whose form it is, I do not know. Perhaps it is linked to your ROM.
To access the standard form, you will need to locate the standard "Contacts" shortcut (not HTC-Contacts) and launch it, then do "New".
Thanks William
Have you any idea on how to locate the correct shortcut?
Shall I look into the registry?
Any hint is appreciated
Saulo
I found a solution...but it only lasted few hours...
I have downloaded and installed the trial of Pocket Informant 9.1
Now when I open a new contact, using PI 9.1., I can input separately name, family name, phone, etc. So I was very happy
But: the system crashes so often...in fact I had to disable PI after just 1 day. In 40 % of cases PI works flawlessly. in 60% of cases, when I open a contact, to, say, send a SMS or place a call, the system freezes...hardware buttons are no more responsive, all software seems locked. The only way to have my phone back in working conditions is to remove the battery and restart.
Any other solutions?
Thanks
Saulo
"poutlook.exe" contacts -new
see my sig for parameters and links (.lnk) if you're not sure.
Thanks bbo!
I am using resco explorer, is it OK to create the lnk?
Where shall I put the link? In the registry?
I am now reviewing your site
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=490447
but I wrote immediately to you, since I hope that with your suggestions I can overcome that Contacts input form...
Thanks and waiting
Saulo
create a .txt file with the contents:
Code:
#"poutlook.exe" contacts -new
then rename the .txt file from example.txt to example.LNK
(caps not neccessary, just trying to distinguish between i, I, l & L)
Thanks again Bob
Yes I have done it: I have created with notepad on my PC, then renamed, then transferred to the root directory of both my HD2 and my HD2's storage microSD card...
But nothing is happening...
2.
Do I need the '#' at the beginning? Or not?
Thanks and waiting
Saulo
Yes you do need the "#"
What are you doing when you put it onto your HD2? It doesn't need to go into the "\Windows" or Root folders, you can put it anywhere that you like, then run the file.
The attached works for me.

That is actually the standard MS form for WM6.5.x.
I did, Bob, as you has explained.
I changed extension from .zip to new contacts.LNK
I clicked on it and, SURPRISE, the same Outlook input form (the simplified one) appear!
I am now so depressed...I eventually have to change ROM, but I was so used to this ROM...
Do you have any other suggestion?
Obvioulsy it means that even your link file is "captures" or "catched" by this outlook input form.
By the way: My rom is KUMAR TMOS P.20 WWE
Rom date: 05/07/10

Try disabling HTC Contact Chooser, have a look at this thread here.
After this, I have no more advice.
Unfortunately no way, Bob
I have followed religiously the thread and all the advices.
I have edited the registry.
After reboot, nothing changed.
I am bound to think that MS Outloojk inpit form and HTC input form are ABSENT from my system? Otherwise after editing the registry what they do not show up?
Thanks

Nope
It looks like part of your rom to me, but if as omar302 said, it is part of 6.5.x, then you are stuck with it unless you downgrade to 6.5
I personally don't like 6.5.x or any HTC Sense stuff, so I keep my phone as close to stock MS as possible.
I know bbo. But I have outlook 2010 installed by default! So why outlook form input is this strange mask that I have attached in my previous thumbnails?
To be even more sure about having the right outlook 2010 version, I have re-downloaded outlook 2010 from somewhere in these threads and re-installed it overwrititing the default ROM installation. But in vain.
Thanks
Saulo
any other suggestions?
