HD2 Music folder - HD2 General

I've had a look around the forum to see if there is an answer to this (but can't seem to find it).
Is there anyway to set the HD2 to only show music from a specific folder rather than it displaying all music files on the SD card. The reason I ask is because I move my music to a folder called Albums but the music player shows everything on the SD card, even odd ring tones etc and it's abit annoying.
Cheers in advance.

I am doing this.
It is a temp work around until some smart boy does it properly.

Why don't you use playlists. Standard functionality that is working quite well. No need for any tweaks or workarounds.

Chris

Because I add music to my sd card daily and always use shuffle. Sorry but doing playlist every day would be a pain. One work-around and I am done.
Until I have a minimum 32GB sd-card that works in HTC I will have to do that.

TF3D Music Player- Help its killing me!!!!!!!

I am having a nightmare with this hunk of brown steaming excretia!!!!! Firstly you have to load songs through Media player-WHY!!!!! What was wrong with dragging and dropping it onto the memory card like I used to do with my Touch.
Second Having waited whilst windows makes me grow older loading toons on the card, having play ok for a week, its just decided it will only play the first 2 seconds of a song any song then lock up!!! It lets me see all my songs, artists, albums, artwork, everything but the bl00dy tease wont let me play em. Worst of all the windows media player on the phone plays it all fine!!!!
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you can drag and drop the files
thats the way i do it and i usually play via tf3d , but iv never had a problem of the music stopping
Do you keep your mp3s in a particular file on the sd card and do you "treat" them in any way album art tag edit etc? Cheers for the answer, this is driving me mad!
I drag and drop directly into the storage card. I avoid WMP when possible - it seems to take forever.
The only problem with drag and drop approach is that sometimes TF3D does not seem to see the update. So, you might have to stop TF3D and restart it - this forces the music player to rescann available files.
How do you stop Tf3d, and how long does your HD take to update the list when you restart it?
even though i use tf3d when i start the music player i always go in library option then choose my music through that
I created a folder on my SD called Music and dragged albums to it. Play them via TF3D and point the library at the SD. It scans the entire card to find the music. then lists them. Only problem I had is when I removed some music from the SD and they still appeared in the TF3D.Resolved it by finding the library file, deleting it and then rescanning card........
Don't bother with the WMP
quick questions for the pro here.... how can i have only one folder showing off my storage card. for example i hate having it scan all of the card, and having ringtones mixed in there.... i wish i could have music and ring tones separate how ever only full songs on the player

This is not something I do often but in the settings, personal, today you can deselect TF3D and then reselect it.
It seems that TF3D does not have a special "scan" button so the best way is to stop and restart TF3D. I have also Pocket Tunes and Pocket Player - both have scan options. But, I generally use TF3D.

Been looking for a way around this myself and I'm still yet to find anything. All my ringtones & music files all appear together which is annoying
Cheers to all the guys who answered the original question
Stopped using media player, wow what a relief.
Got a new problem now though After spending a night finding and adding album art, I loaded the mp3s, stopped and started TF3D, cool it saw the mp3s fine. Not so cool, it has "stuck on one of the album pics and wont move!!! the song changes, the title changes but the picture stays the same!!!
marmin you are not alone. I have the same problems with tf3d player and its almost killing me.
my k800i was perfect in this disciplin.
1.
I copied all my mp3s on my sd card (no activesync). I have 4 songs with different integrated covers and my player shows all the time the same cover.
2.
The other frustrating thing is the thing with ringtones. Somebody already mention it. I just want to say tf3D: "hey only scan this folder. the rest is none of your business. nothing else." but it scans all the time my whole device including ringtones.
Here is the file I deleted prior to a rescan (as mentioned in my previous post) .......
My Device\Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng
although you could just rename it so you can change it back again if a problem arises.....
When I scanned afterward it recreated the entire music database from my SD including the assoication for image files to their respective albums.

i haven't tried this idea, but I think it would certainly be worth investigating (I'd check it for you guys but a bit busy till the weekend arrives). But for those that know how to edit the registry (really simple), try and add a new key to the respective TF3D music player folder called "Ignore". In the new key, add a 'string value' for your descritption (name of folder would do nicely). More importantly, set the "Data" to the full path of the folder to be ignored (something like "Storage Card\Ringtones"). I think this might work as it works with the TF3D album (forces it to ignore the folders which you tell it to and all its sub-folders). Please let me know if you try this and if it works or not (if no one tries it I'll try to give it a go over the weekend)
Good Luck (and hope it works)
Album art in the TF3D music player.
I am having those issues too. My problems started when I embedded the art into the MP3's. It not only hangs on the art, it also will only play about 2- seconds of the song before stopping. I can play the songs fine with the Windows media player though, so I had to put it on the programs tab so I could get to it easy.
Anothr thing about the HTC player, is it doesn't seem to go into sub folders very well, where the Windows player does. But like you said, it picks up on EVERYTHING, and that's extremely annoying.
Thought I'd give a shout out to S2P, a great freeware music player, which some of you will know of but other's might not:

As others have said, Nitrogen and Pocket Player are also great players

Music Library - Possible to Search?

I've been wondering if it's possible to search in a music library, built-in HTC HD2. I have tons of music, finding specific one I want can take some time..
Thank you!
I would like to know this as well!
Me, Im interested as well!
a bit irrelevant, but it is also annoying in Music album.....is there any trick so to hide a folder from being indexed? For example i in my sd card i have a folder where i stash all my ringtones....I don t want them to be shown in music player....

Assign only one folder to Sense Music Player

Alright lads,
I was wondering if anyone knew a way to assign only one folder from my SD card to my music player? I ask as my music player is clustered with game music and ringtones (as I moved that folder to the SD card to save space).
All help appreciated,
RRJ
i the same similar situation, if any one can help, either directing the folder or editing the default folder to avoid playing back ring tones, alarms or any other unwanted files!!!
I am almost positive I have found this answer previously on here somewhere . . . am looking for it, will let you know when I find it.
EDIT - found it. Sort of. I was looking for a way of making music player just look in one folder for music, but couldnt find it.. In the end I hid the sound folders of a couple of apps (Waze included) and put my ringtones on the phone.
Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=673142&highlight=ringtones+music+player
But the problem is that was not an actual fix, it's more just moving or hiding the sound files which defeats the purpose because you won't be able to see your ringtones. This has long been an HTC Sense issue, Android/Sense builds do the same thing.

HD2 sluggish locks after loading 2000 MP3's

Hi,
Two Issues I need help on:
1. I just transferred 2000 mp3 to my sd card/Music phone is supper slow, locks up.
2. When I get my song list up, Most of them shows ! on it. Some do and some dont, perhaps the list got corrupted as those were the mp3 I had before which I deleted and transferred a new set of 2000 mp3's to /sdcard/Music
What can I do? I first had 200 mp3's and it was Ok. Is there a limit??
Thanks

I guess I am alone on this one. I dont have a clue how to solve this one.
Any body??
not sure how many mp3 I have, but I do have close to 14G of mp3s, so it should be more, if not close to 2000 mp3 you have.
I don't have any slowness, did you experience it every time you reset, or it happens even after 1-2 hours after your last reset?
and btw, you get better response in the HD2 theme and app forum.
1. Did you format the sd card (fat 32) prior to importing the files?
2. Are you on Stock 1.66 ROM?
3. TBH I have yet to hear of anyone with so much number of MP3 files that HTC Music Player can handle.
4. use WM media player
or some other third party
As suggested above, format the microSD card. A corrupt microSD card can really slow down a smartphone.
Also, see if WMP handles the files well. Many media players for WM choke on large libraries. For all of it's ugliness, WMP seems to handle large libraries fairly well.

HI, I just did a hard-reset, when I slide over to the Music Icon, it now says searching and I get a spinning circle, songs are appearing slowly, but I wanted to know, is it perhaps the spinning circle has something to do with the lag, I mean, If you side over to music icon, should it not pop up and show the songs /sdcard/music ??
What is it trying to do? and can I stop it?? I cant imagine that this HD2 craps out on 1900 mp3's ( cleared up a few )
My SDCard is at FAT32 already
Should I try another ROM like [ROM] Artemis HD2 v9.0 [WWE|GER|FRA|ITA|ELL|SPA|PTG|RUS|NLD|NOR|SVE] WM6.5.5+Leo 2.10 ????
Or... am I not doing it right to put all the mp3 on the sdcad??

every time you soft reset the phone, the audio manager will rebuild the library. So that spining icon describe that situation.
it shouldnt' take ages to rebuild the library though. Usually, 10-20 secs is all it need, (just a ball park estimate, but you get the idea of the duration)
there's some lag though, on stock rom or rom that doesn't use extendir, when you swipe over to the music tab. i.e. it'll take a few second before the music tab shows up, and before that, it'll look as if the music tab / music player is hung.
I'm not sure how many chef has use extendir, I know bobsbbq, myself and I think scotsman have that build that in the rom.
I have alot of MP3's (6-7GB) on my SD card. A reason for the sluggish HD2 could be because when you first select the music tab after a soft reset, the music library rebuild itself (search for all the track again).
After 20 mins my library is rebuilt and the phone is back to its blazing self again.
I let it search once, then dont reset my phone until necessary!
Hope this helps
EDIT: replying whilst the post above, was posted...sorry.

That is what I thought, maybe it has something to do with the album art.
On a lot of albums the art is the same (it has copied one cover to lots of albums).
I will format again and see if the is a difference.
Thanks

I have solved the problem with my library.
I have spent today re-arranging my music files into folders ARTIST>ALBUM>SONGS.
Before I had all the songs/files labeled e.g. "Artist - Song Name" in one "music" folder.
Now it only takes about 10 secs to rebuild the library. Much faster
OP, do you by chance have a US HD2 with the stock TMOUS class 2 SD card? I think the issue may be the slow card. For instance, the games that ship with the phone on the SD card have to be moved to the phone to play smoothly due to the "slowness" of the card.
I believe the suggestion from muzens has worked for some.

I think it it, I see 2 on the card.
As far as my issue, I guess there is no way an HD2 can handle 2000 MP3's, So I will delete as much as I can until it works ok.
Unless anyone else has another solution.

I have not seen the release notes yet, but whatever is there is more satisfied for me now.

Could you tell us if you have your music in folder like mentioned above?

I'd really like to know if I'm going to run into the same problems if I decide to ditch my iPod.
Hello all,
The best solution to the Sense music player being slow when there are 100's of tracks is to split the files over several folders on the root (cut & paste).
Keep this to around 50-60 tracks in any one folder. For exanple is the Music folder on my MicroSD card I have created 0-A, B-C, D-F, etc. and place all the tracks in order of the fist letter. This can be easily done by plugging in your USB cable to the device and selecting Disk Drive.
Once you have done this, reset your device and go to the music tab, it will then perform one scan and you will not get any delay thereafter.

Music app not syncing/recognizing artist names

I've tried syncr, I've tried double twist and I've tried dragging and dropping but in all cases, the phone is not recognizing the artist names of many songs. It labels them as unknown. This is driving me nuts.
When I take the SD card out and place it in my droid X, all the songs that went previously unrecognized are now recognized.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
I am, i thought it was just my music collection. I've been doing everything to try and fix it with no luck

Are they m4a files? There is another thread where people have found that m4a files aren't working properly. They play just fine, but the artist and some other info isn't recognized properly for some reason.

Just move allo music folder or/and files to the main Music folder. it doesnt work if you have music files in you own SD card or another map. It has to be in Phone memory.

Not sure if that is right. I've tried it on the phone's 16gb memory, and on my external microSD card - neither works. When I add them to Kies on my desktop they are also missing the some of the info in the fields shown in the 'library'. It's all very confusing - really hope it can get sorted out soon as it's the one thing that's annoying the hell out of me.

Didn't seem to make any difference. To be clear, I didn't have a 'Music' folder in the root of the internal phone memory, so I created one and put my music in sub-directories. Is that what you meant?
Do you use MP3 files? Then this could be an issue with the ID3 Tag. You can solve it in two ways:
1) only using ID3 V1 Tags
2) using ID3 V2.3 Tags with ISO-8859-1 Charakter Set. Android seems to have problems with UTF-8/16 and ID3 V2.4

It's my m4a files that I think I (and others) have the problem with.
Is there any program that you know of to change the tags of m4a files as a batch? Really don't want to have to do it individually!
I use usually a Prog called "MP3Tag". Unfortunately I do not know actually if a) it is available in English language (I'm German)
b) it also works with m4a files.
Usage is quiet simple: Just open your Music folder on your PC with the program, edit the settings to fit with what I've written above, apply the settings, select all files, copy and paste the tags, save the files - finished.
Cheers
Zap
Edit: I've checked it: The Prog is available in English and it supports m4a. Just look at the website: www.mp3tag.de
The test files I'm working with are files purchased from the iTunes music store. I certainly don't want to rewrite the ID tags for any files, or convert the files from one format to another. I think this would classify as a bug that Samsung should fix, in my opinion.
I have a workaround, namely browsing folders via Poweramp. It's certainly not ideal, but will get me by for the time being.
What is the proper method of inquiring with Samsung about this? Call Samsung via the Support number on their pages? Is their phone support any good?
Since I bought this UK model and shipped it to Canada, would I need to call Samsung UK? (Samsung Canada doesn't list the GT-I9100 as a supported model on their site)
I can understand this, maybe you crash more than repair it. Yes, a different Music app with its own - well, let's call it "engine" - could also solve the problem. This could be worth a try.
On the other hand there are also users who do not want to have that much apps and want to use the stuff which is coming with the little green bot originally - they definetely will suffer from that issue, because it's Android - dependent and not Manufacturer - dependent. So I think you will not reach anything by talking to Samsung.
Just have a look here. Lots of defects regarding The bot and MP3. Just search "yours" (the one that fits best) ;-). Hopefully the big G will fix them some time.
Cheers

This drives me nuts too.
They display properly in double twist, but not in the stock player. I like double twist to sync wirelessly, but like stock as a player.
Found out the AAC music files are the ones that are not getting tagged properly. I'm thinking of converting them to MP3 which will be a long process.
Is their an easier way to tag the songs so that they get recognized?
did anyone further forward with this? I've got m4a files. I transcoded all of them to mp3 and still the artist showed as unknown.
Is it an ID tag version issue as the earlier poster said?

Whats the point in having the external card?? Surly media files is exactly the sort of thing you would want to put on an external SD.
I have my music files on my external sdcard. I synced with iTunemywalkman, the key is to code them (Playlists tab) NOT in UTF-8 but Western European (ISO Latin-1).
I created a Samsung/music/ folder on my external sdcard and the built-in player as well as Songbird player are working fine.
Might be worth trying mediafix by gorgonloop
Its on the market, it's free and it worked for me (Itunes .mpa files not showing artist and using folder name as album name, etc.)
Try MediaFix from the market. It fix almost 90% of the m4a issues(unknown artiste).
