I always use this great link:
http://m.sonyericsson.com/mobile/dotcom/splash?cc=pl&dn=generic&intercept=&lc=pl&set=true
Nicely prepared for mobile....
Thanks doministry, I always manage to forget that URL. Interestingly, the new beta panels that you mentioned are on the X1 panels page, but not the X2 panels page. I wonder if SE plans on releasing an official update to the X1 panel manager so that the X1 can run newer panels without hacks.

I figured this would be up on the board by now...
Opera has announced Opera Mobile 9.5. It will support Flash, if the OEM chooses to include Flash Lite 3.0.
I figure someone on here will incorporate it in about 9.5 hours.
Official specs:
http://www.opera.com/b2b/file/Opera_Mobile_Product_Sheet.pdf
There is no Flash lite 3 on Windows Mobile for anyone to implement. There isn't even a Developers' edition.
i guess im still holding out for skyfire....with the way it renders pages, isnt it supposed to do full flash, java and everything as we see it on our desktops?
Seems pretty fast to me:

Makes PIE look like complete rubbish, which it is.

You quoted me Leoni, but I wasnt referring to Opera, I was referring to the new beta Skyfire browser that will be out pretty soon hopefully. They demoed it and were streaming youtube videos from the full pc version of youtube on the demo phone.

Like I emphasized in my post, it will be there if the OEM chooses, and others here beat me to saying the Nokia already has it.
No dev edition? Get it here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashlite3/
I downloaded it 2 months ago. Edit: I expect it to be WinMo ready soon if Opera says it will be a feature in OM 9.5.... for WinMo.

Its only for Symbian OS v3 and Windows XP. It can be ported to run on linux.
See FAQ here
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashlite/faq/ Look at the 6th and 7th questions.
Therefore, no FL3 for winmo platform, and this has been clarified by an Adobe representative.
The faq just says that Symbian and XP are the reference platforms. Nothing says it won't be ported to WinMo, just that it won't be a reference platform (certified by Adobe so comparison tests can be run against other platforms). The pdf I linked to above clearly says that OM 9.5 will be available on WinMo (upper right corner of 2nd page), and that it will support FL 3.0 (lower left of 2nd page).
Do you have a reference to the clarification from Adobe?

I had posted a link for Adobe's clarification before, but that link is broken now.
Opera 9.5 is capable of having FL3, but only if the OEM integrates them. HTC device running winmo does not have FL3 to do so AFAIK,
Which brings us back to my first post - its possible, HTC could do it with future devices (or someone else will come out with FL 3 on WinMo) and then someone on this board will port it for us.
My bet is the next Athena will be WinMo 6.1 w/Opera 9.x and FL 3.
Skyfire does look appealing and will be released soon. It uses a proxy server (like opera mini) to render not only the page itself but also the java/flash content. This makes me worry about whether the possible popularity of the application - which is being released on both Winmo AND Symbian - might cause slowness and unreliablity owing to the enormous bandwidth required. I think i'd sooner have an embedded flash plugin and a normal browser (like Opera Mini), but i'll give them both a whirl!

I'd have some concern if it uses proxy server. I won't want to do internet banking or online shopping with it. I'd rather see all rendering to be done on the device itself. Also, I'm not sure if a proxy server set up would end up attracting subscription fee in the long run. Surely someone has to pay for the server side expenditure.

I can't wait to try!
Hi everyone!
I just got off the phone with nice gentleman named Tom Ford from Opera. He is closely involved in the 9.5 project. He want us to know that a numbers of issues such as pricing
and upgrading from the current version have yet to be decided. I expressed our excitement over the opportunity to be involved in the beta testing which he seemed to find really encouraging. He's going to keep us closely informed in the process leadinq up to the beta release. I gave him my email address and I'll share with everyone any information he sends me. This is all I have right now. He may decide to post the info himself but if not, when he emails me I would gladly pass on any questions you might have
-David
Welcome to the forums David - nice first post, keep us informed of aany further news, I'd certainly be interested if they need beta testers!
If Opera 9.5 on the desktop (see demo here http://cybernetnews.com/2007/09/03/cybernotes-exclusive-opera-95-features-video/ and the software here http://www.opera.com/download/index.dml?ver=9.50b) is an indication of what we could expect from the PPC version, then I'd be estatic! The speed is incredible. I've just installed desktop 9.5 on my PC and I cannot believe how fast it could be as compared to internet explorer on my Vista notebook, or the earlier version of desktop opera.
I also like the new features such as speed dial and ability to recover closed opera windows from the trashcan. This is a hugh improvement over the earlier version of desktop opera.
So, I'm looking forward to that hugh leap improvement on the window mobile too.
Ill have to give the desktop version a try.
Does anyone know if the spb shell 3.0 is still on track to be released next week?
I did email spb to find out if they would add the panel feature as they did with weather and traveler but they said that they dont comment of future software.
they did say it will be eady for oem mid-end march. April for public.
more importantly, will we get it for free since our phone came with a full version of 2.1?

i thought it was mid march for oem and end of march for public
we wont get it free (as sony will not pay fro the shell as they already have for the 2.1, which thay would see as enough to keep there customers happy as a free panel.
although i do think it will have a panel option.
ps. i would really like to keep my 2.1 panel as well as the new one as its simple and clean.

I watched the demonstration but the problem I've had with Mobile Shell 2 still remains: The menus and their order looks very messed up to me. There is no thread how to jump from on menu to the other. Additional, the graphic interface looks very "old".
In my opinion, TF3D is far from perfect, but you have an menu-order on the bottom line and you can simply switch from one page to the other and know what information you will get there.
But in the demonstration of Mobile Shell I have no idea how I can switch to contacts or programs or somewhere else. Maybe it would become more clear when trying it out yourself, but then TF3D would still look better.

Xperia X2 software support schedule
// February 2nd, 2010 // X2, X2 News
As the X2 begins to roll out globally, it’s only fair that customers know what kind of support we’ll be giving the phone in the months to come. It’s not news to say that we attracted some criticism for this on the X1 and we’re not going to go there again with the X2. So, for the record, this is what X2 customers can expect in terms of software upgrades.
In March, we’ll launch our first upgrade (MR1). It will upgrade Windows Mobile from 6.5.1 to 6.5.2 (which will improve both the stability and usability of the device), it will bring in the use of video telephony, an FM radio and it will introduce fast GPS to get a quicker fix. As well as all this, MR1 will upgrade a lot of the applications in the phone to improve speed, usability and fix any bugs we find.
The second update will go live in May and this will be a big one as it moves Windows mobile onto 6.5.3. This is a significant upgrade in terms of usability, performance, power management and the browser experience.
That’s the extent of our plans at the moment but I’ll update this post as we make any more decisions.
(ps. Before anyone asks, no it won’t ever go onto Windows Mobile 7, it won’t support the hardware.)

Is it possible to update my x2 through online once the update is launched? Thanks
yes it should be through the sony update service since they are official updates.. you can download the update software from sony ericssons website. im sure someone will post on here when they become available. or just randomly try and update your phone every few days during march until something happens...

Fear not, it's a stable process.
Of course you can install Java,
in fact X2 has best Java results.

lol all i meant was you just connect to the update software every few days and see if it tells you if theres an update available. if theres no update then nothing happens. even if there is a newer update you still have the option to stop before anything happens.
remember to always make sure everything important is backed up before starting an update.
its a shame that sony dont have something on their website to inform people when a new update is out. would save having to connect to the update software to check. or even if they let us register and then they could email or text us...

Well, for that there are sites like USEB or Engadget Mobile, no need for SE to do anything
Hi folks,
I got my Nexus One last night and it is awesome. I loved what HTC did on Windows mobile, having taken a journey from the TyTn II, Touch Pro and finally Touch Pro 2. But Android is AMAZING.
I shall never go back to windows mobile (which is a shame as I loved NRG's roms!)...
Anyhow... I'd love to clear something up, about which I am quite confused.
I seem to remember from repeated posts and threads and articles that multitouch was not supported by the default Google apps, such as the browser, gallery, maps, etc.
Well, imagine how suprised I was (and still am!) that ALL of these apps are supporting pinch zoom. Perhaps I'll be less lazy now and make a video or something, but I promise this is working.
Now, I did notice that the N1 asked to install an update to the software upon first boot up. Perhaps this brought these new capabilities?
NOTE -- I just did a google search and found some news articles confirming the above. But I decided to post this anyways to clarify this with anyone who comes across this.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/02/03/google_nexus_one_multitouch
Have you been living under a rock the last week?
Seriously, the update did indeed add the pinch&zoom support to a couple of google apps. The multitouch OS support was in android 2.x from the beginning, so its technically not quite correct to say that multitouch is new. Some 3rd party apps used multitouch for a while already.

IIRC, it has been a hackable feature since 1.5/6 and it is with 2.X they added it into the SDK officially.

Once again it seems amazing. SPB Rules...
and once again they release details with no firm dates ...
used to love SPB MS 3.5 but when I got my HD2 I stopped playing with MS ...
MAybe this version will seduce me back!

i wonder what happened to v4?
apparently version 4 isnt lucky in the east!
the number 4 and the word death are too similar and is deemed unlucky or something....
Thus version 3 to version 5!

Looks great will be waiting for a release date.
Dont no if it's old news

MArk.
yet nobody could find the version 5?
I ran it can't say i was overly impressed, it's nice and it is smooth on the rendering front however if you use bluetooth audio like i do you have to set up media player every time to get it to work.
It just shows an umpty library you have to manually add items to play each time
the abilty to add widgets to your home page is pretty cool though but after a few weeks of usage i went back to sense
