My Sprite Terminator command to send GPS from HD2 is not working. Can someone test this and let me know. Or how do I activate GPS features in HD2 to get it working. Cheers.
Hi,
I've had the same experience with Sprite Terminator and the HD2 myself.
However - it helps to make sure you've got a good GPS reception (i.e. be outside) - you can use Google Maps to check this.
Once the HD2 has a decent GPS signal, Sprite Terminator responds to GPS requests almost immediately in my experience.

Richard Tubb.

I had a question regarding this devices bluetooth GPS capablities.
Is there any necessary software to install on the device to use it as a GPS screen?
My intentions are to buy a bluetooth GPS receiver and link it to the phone. There is no way on earth i would pay cingular 9.99 a month for GPS that is already provided free by the government.
Has anyone had any luck linking a generic bluetooth gps receiver with the device? And if someone could please direct me to the GPS software for the device if there is such a thing.
I use a Garmin GPS10. it comes with the GPS software. it runs about $120. works well but most people seem to perfer TomTom.
eith way ypu pay a flat fee for the software and GPS receiver.
I bought a GPS receiver QSTARZ Q818 and it's working perfectly on my 8525 using Google Maps !!! and except for the receiver ($75) everything else is free !!! .. easy to set up and to use. But there is no voice ...

Bought a bt359 gps receiver for $99 from cingular and use live search (free) from microsoft. Has live traffic indicators and maps works great.

Voice?
Well I took the sucker punch and got the Tomtom...
Does anyone know where i would be able to download USA maps for the device?
I bought it - and took it back promptly... the GPS they sell only puts out Siirf protocol and not the NMEA. This caused only specific apps to work for me. Perhaps something was screwy on my phone but I could not get ViaVIsualEarth and GoogleMaps to function - but did not try Live Search.

Hello,
I'm running a stock 8525 (ROM v1.34.502.1) with several hacks (works great). I just purchased a Qstarz BT-Q818 and it worked out of the box with Google Maps and even Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006. Neither of these products are fully-capable GPS navigational products.
I've seen questions and comments about TomTom 6, upgrades from 5, work with WM6, etc, - but I'm curious if anyone can share their experiences installing and using TomTom 6 on Windows Mobile 5. I plan to use US maps, but I don't know if the selected country's maps makes a difference to the reliability, ease-of-use, or installation experience. I don't plan to migrate to WM6 for a bit (until I have a real good reason).
Thanks in advance for your opinions!
Well, I can't help you with Tom Tom on WM05 with this phone.
I had my phone for all of 1 phone call, text message and MMS before I went to WM-6.
That said, I've got Tom Tom 6 with the latest (US and Canada) maps on it, and it works great. Mind you, it isn't as fast (overall) as the dedicated Tom Tom units are, but it gets the job done. In fact on the new LVSW it is pretty close to being at the same speed as a GO300. I'm using it with a Visiontac VGPS-700 bluetooth antenna.
Also, I've got a Motorola MPx and used Tom Tom extensively on that. It is running windows mobile 2003 (IIRC). Obviously its way slower than the 8525, but it worked just fine and got me where I needed to go.
The hardest part of the install on either unit is to get Tom Tom to "see" the bluetooth GPS. And, actually on the MPx it is way easier than on the 8525 with WM06.
I know, I know... you wanted experiance with WM05... but thought that this would help at least a bit.
Thank you, this is helpful. If it turns out I'm the last person on the planet still running WM5, then I'll have to upgrade. Basically, my ROM was ok out of the box and I applied my hacks and apps without any trouble, so I haven't considered an upgrade given the stability vs risk + stability considerations.
I run TT6 on WM5 and I love it. I have had zero stability issues and it works great with my HOLUX 236 BT GPS. I also can receive/send email, calls, internet all while it is running in the background with little to no issues. Once and a while, when I am updating traffic (BOSTON,NYC AREA) performance can be a little slow if I'm multitasking. Other than that, it's flawless for me!
Ditto on the good reports - have run tomtom6 for many 10-15 hour drives, never had any issues. The phone integration features of TT6 are handy - being able to call a POI (eg, pizza shop) from TT6 is sometimes useful. Switches seamlessly between calls and the nav screen without dramas. Handles loss of GPS signal or a slightly incorrect map fine.
Er, you may very well be the last person with WM5 , I've got WM6 as well
@ Guy... lol, except for the guy before you who is running it on WM05.
Oh, I forgot to mention, On my Mpx, I could take two calls with Tom Tom running in the background before the phone would lock up and I'd have to soft reset.
With the 8525, I've had a couple of days where I was on the phone, and forgot Tom Tom was running and it ran from the time I went to work until I left... a 10-12 hour day making calls sending sms and mms, some internet searches etc...never locked the phone up.
I ran TT6 on the stock Vodafone UK WM5 ROM and it was ok but every now and then it would lock up and I would have to end the app and start it up again.
I upgraded to WM6 for one reason SPEED, I don't know about your WM5 ROM but mine was slow. I got so fed up of waiting for 2 seconds after I pressed the red button for a call to end. It did my t*ts in.
Anyway, running TT6 on WM6 has been a superior experience so far as it has not locked up once (on Black 2.0/2.5). Only small gripe is that when a call comes in while using TT the HERMES does not return to the TT screen until the call is finished (you can manually switch back to TT).
One thing to watch out for is the Black 2.5 ROM which updates your HERMES device code and therefore requires TT re-activating. Because of this I have reverted to Black 2.0 (which I find better on battery consumption incidently).
HTH.
TT6 on Std UK T-Mob WM5 ROM
I found that TT6 runs OK but I had to turn off the plotting (on screen) of all the POIs to get it to run smoothly. Some people seem to have reported issues with the rate of data access from their MicroSD cards so it's worth getting a good card (NB - lots of issues reported with Sandisk cards). I run TT6, my phone and CamerAware (which warns about cameras better than TT6). I have had the odd lock-up but in the main all works very well and I am able to count on TT6 with my Vario II. BTW - I use the Holux GPSlim240 which is very nice.
I have even got Windows Live Search running at the same time with a GPS plotted position and mapping/Sat view running from a 3G connection - all very impressive to mates if of little in-car use whilst driving!
Regards

I just installed wm6 and i try and run the start app that installs tomtom and it doesnt do anything im using xplore 1.1!
Is there any way to get TomTom 5 to see the internal GPS using the Valhalla cab? Someone told me that Valhalla cab generates the GPS signal on a virtural port and that TomTom 5 cannot read a virtual port -- or something like that. If accurate, is there a work a round? Google and Live read the GPS so I know it works. TomTom 5 works fine with my bluetooth GPS receiver, so I know the software is working -- but it will not see the internal GPS. Will TomTom 6 work with this configuration? Thanks in advance for your help.
Roger
I'm not sure if this will help or not but I'm using IGuidance and it doesn't/didn't work with the Valhalla cab by itself. The Iguidance program did work fine with my I-Trek M5+ bluetooth receiver in much the same same situation you're in now.
What helped me was to install Fransons GPS Gate software (it's a paid program but there are some free one's out there like it). I set Fransons to use the WM GPS option and then open up I -Guidance and it works fine (this freed me up from having to use the I-Trek reciever).
Hopefully something like this will help.
Good luck.
I have an HTC Feeler with the WM6.1 ROM from Aleut(thanks )
I also have a Garmin GPS(GPS 20SM) with Garmin Mobile XT. My problem is that the program crashes or freezes randomly, I am fairly positive this is due to running out of RAM. I have tried a handful of other applications but all of them have memory issues or require a data connection.
So I was wondering if anyone else has had any success with GPS software and a similar setup. Any help would be awesome!
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I'm looking into enabling gps on my VZW XV6800 and I saw that the TomTom7 is out. Does the TomTom 7 work on the XV6800 or will I have to use the TomTom6?
Thanks,
Chris

I'm an advance GPS user with a Verizon Titan (XV6800) and custom ROM. I'm fully unlocked with a completely functioning GPS (no AGPS here and no digital connection fees).
I'm really impressed with Garmin XT for the phone and novice users. The added features through WIFI are very good. Speedcams and other added features are easily obtained for for a small fee or free for experienced users (lots of sites to download free).
Superior of all the SW out there is IGO8, 3D terrain and 3D buildings in major cities (WoW). Highly customizable --- the very best (NavNGO.com)
I would not buy or desire to use Tom Tom, I have over 40 hours of use and do not like their SW no matter how I try.
Least expensive SW with the greatest utility (including free trial) is POLNav v5.
RangerDave and ShadowT thanks for the info.
RangerDave could you point me in the direction where I can download the TT7 for the XV6800? Also I believe that once I have the TT7 running it will ask me to download a map of my area to demo correct?
Thanks,
Chris

Well since you have 2 posts here I will tell you like this.
Dear Mr @%$^*!$$.
Asking for free software is not following the rules here.
You will either pay $$ for it or hit up your other friend "google" and see what he says. Even with google you may still pay for it with a nice fat bug on your pc.
I'm not going to tel you how to get it for free unless tomtom web site has a free trial, then you still have to unlock the software, optain the map, unlock the map, create a pair of files with some special code that were a pain in the butt..............
RD
Ok,
I'm not looking at getting it for free what I'm not understanding is you said you had TT7 working. I go to TomTom's site I don't see TT7 Navigator only TT5 and TT6. Then I read that the Navigator is free but you have to buy the maps. I don't have a problem buying the maps as long as I know it works on my phone. From what I had read in other posts is that you can install TT7 and then through TT7 go to the TomTom site and download a demo map of your area. This is what I want to try to find out if I can get it working on my phone. I know I have to do some rom upgrades and radio upgrades to get GPS working on the phone but I would like to try it with a Demo if they have one before I go out and buy it. When I asked for a link I was more referring to a link on TomTom's site where the TT7 could be downloaded with the demo maps. However I can't even find TT7 on the site at all.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
I have the mogul 6800 and have the TT7 and it is pretty reliable- so highly recommend it. I paid someone (works at cellphone place) to upgrade my rom (Sprint) and get the GPS working. I have also tried iGO8 but it was somewhat buggy... but great app. My bud has iGuidance 09 on his XV6800, it works great as the TT7 and doesn't hogg the few memory that the htc 6800 has... But my other bud has the HTC Touch Pro with Garmin TX and that is the best one, visual speaking..
But I say the TT7 is just right for the 6800... I hear the new Diamond2 will also pre-installed too.
Worth upgrading to get the GPS working...
Good luck Chris...
ok so I have TT7 loaded on my XV6800 and I have the "Valhalla_Legends_GPSServer" running in Mode=0. Google maps works great about 6 sats. GPS Toggle also says about 6 sats and another program I have for gps works. However when I have TomTom up the GPS signals keep jumping all over the place. Not the normal slight jumping but I'll go from North South East West and back and forth. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
So i've got TomTom working by using GpsGate 2.6 and setting tomtom to use Other NMEA GPS receiver with baud rate of 9600 and the Franson COM2. I'm not sure why it's working this way but then again I wasn't sure why the GPS cordinates where jumping all over when I had it set to use Internal GPS without GpsGate. The problem I have right now is that GpsGate is only a demo for 14 days. Does anyone know of a freeware app that will do the same thing or another way to get TomTom to work?
Thanks
I installed TomTom 7 on my XV6800 with all the maps and it works, but it says: "No GPS device!"
My GPS is unlocked and was working with google navigator, but the problem is that i have to have wifi to download maps and such.
Can someone help me getting the GPS activated with TomTom?
