Cleaning - HD2 General

I just was wondering how you all keep this gorgeous 4.3" screen clean? It's obviously a fingerprint magnet

When dirty I use a micro fibre glasses cloth available from opticians. The fingerprints are annoying

the recessed screen cleaning tips

at first i didnt really see this as a disadvantage because i thought the recessed screen would keep scratches away and stuff...
but on a touch device it really is a pain to keep clean and to clean at all because the dirt gets dragged into the edges and is hard to get out.
any tips how to get the screen really clean in a short time ? Right no its driving me nuts to clean the screen everyday for several minutes...with a screen like the Touch Pro i could just wipe the dirt away
I wish I could give some advice but I think were all stuck. I think the majority of people either get a case or some of those screen protectors, wether im in the minority or not, I hate putting things in cases or putting extra bits and pieces on. Mine does get lots of finger prints on the screen but I find a good rub with a micro fibre cloth when I get home works a treat, though the corners can be a pain.
I get quite worried pressing too hard because it's touch screen, but it's the only thing to really get it clean.
You could always use some specialist screen cleaner but having to buy the stuff all the time can be an annoyance.
use something wet. barely wet. not too wet
First blow off the dust if any. Wash your hands, wipe your hands in a soft tissue and with this wet tissue, wipe the screen. This is what barely wet means. This leaves no dried water marks on screen too.

Carty..

I use Clearview TFT Screen cleaner, just spray a tiny bit on the microfiber cloth, its great stuff
Q-tip
I use a Microfibre cloth for the main screen, but then i have q-tips that I use to get in the corners. Works perfectly...
Tape can be used to lift fingerprints and dust off the screen.
Run a slightly damp Q-Tip cotton-bud round the edges to get the gunk out
the edges are the difficult part, the rest is quite easy to keep clean.
Ill try the Qtip for the edges, thx for all the input
For years I have always used lens cleaner (that you would use for cleaning spectacles) It's really cheap and removes grease without smears, and is perfectly safe.
Whilst in the opticians or chemist grab a lens cloth too (again the same you'd use on your specs) works a treat and again really cheap.
Finally I have a little carbon fibre brush which gets the dust and fluff from those recesses.
Oooohh such pampering for my beloved X1

Solution to prevent SGS camera lense from getting finger prints and dirt

Not sure about you.
But i find my self always sticking my finger right into the camera lense, and it's always hard to keep clean
specially when you are eating with your hands then you do something on the phone and that oily residue is hard to get out without a good wipe.
the problem is i find i spend a lot of time trying to clean it.
So i was wondering if anyone got a good idea to put some sort of screen protector for the camera lense
i was thinking probably i'll cut a small piece of the screen protector and put it on top, since i got many to spare
also i got a few very nice one with mirror coating
problem is... not sure if the mirror coating ones will make the picture less sharp as it reflects back the light
right now the camera is taking very nice a vivid pictures as well as recording, and i wouldn't want a screen/lense protector to cut down the resolution & light input when taking pictures and making videos
specially for night mode photo shots
Food fingers will also be an issue with a screen protector. Unless you use a anti glare one which will most likely degrade the image. You best bet is a case or backing that recesses the camera preventing you from touching it.
it's really hard to avoid touching the camera, and you're right, a screen protector might deteriorate the image quality.
what i've been doing, same with phones i've previously had, is carry a small piece of micro fibre cloth in my wallet. that way, i can make sure my lense is clean.

i do have that, problem is, oily residue is hard to remove with the micro fibre cloth
it just smudges it around, the only way to take it out is to go to the washroom get a tiny bit of soap (or wet cloth tissue, like the ones you can get from KFC) and clean it with the micro fibre cloth
I never took the protector off that comes with the phone.
It was quite funny. The screen protector I bought came with a protector for the camera lens but no matter what I couldn't get it on.... I discovered that the camera came with a protector already on it, lol.
this would probably be your best bet. it's an oleophobic (supposedly oil repelling) screen protector that includes 3 extra pieces for the camera lense as well.

Just use your thumb.
1. Don't eat greasy food, it's bad for you--bad for your smartphone, too.
2. Use a fork instead of your fingers.
3. Barring those smart-alecky suggestions , perhaps there's an opportunity for someone to develop a sexy after-market back for the SGS--one which makes for easier battery changing and has a sliding window over the camera lens. Does something like that already exist?
If you get a Martin Fields screen protector it usually comes with a additional cut out protector for the camera lens. It's pricey though, but the film is good quality and you don't get any bubbles.

oleophobic coating rubbed off

So I was rubbed the screen with toothpaste to rid of some very light scratches, it worked but the oleophobic coating also rubbed off. I can tell because that are (top) gathers fingerprints very easily compared to the other areas of the screen. Any ideas on how to restore it, or should I just rub the rest of the screen with toothpaste.
WAT?
Do NOT use further chemicals on the screen...you might just have to live with the blemished screen (or replace it). The coating was there to protect, and you have taken it off.
IMHO, just deal.
lolwhat??? toothpaste on a Super AMOLED screen???? thats royally ****ed...you could've got a soft wipe cloth and wiped out the scratches...thats what i do...no chemicals, no toothpaste, no worry
I removed some scratches from my screen using a very very light automotive polish. Worked pretty good for knocking the edges off the screen but I noticed my finger would no longer glide very easily across the screen. It also showed alot of finger prints. I installed a real look screen protector and solved both of those problems. Might want to look into it.

Try an rubber air blower dust cleaner.
And it's no metal, it's a plastic frame (polycarbonate).

[Q] Screen protector to cover the WHOLE surface?

Hey guys, so I just got my membrane screen protectors for the nexus 4, installation was pretty quick and bubble-less. I noticed tho, not all of the surface is covered.. just the screen. The edges and the other parts of the frontal glass are not covered and therefore scratch-exposed. I googled a bit and found out there probably is no screenprotector which allows FULL cover of the surface.
Can you guys confirm? I think these Membrane protectors I got are just bad.. crazy cheap price for 6 protectors. They are crystal clear tho.

It has a slight curve at the edges which doesn't allow for complete adhesion, and at the top for the camera and prox sensors need to be open...so someone decided.

Thanks man. So which protector covers more?
I always have taken my phones to Ghost Armor, they cover everything for $40. They'll replace all of it for $10. It's almost rubber feeling but it's crystal clear.

$40? That's a lot for a screen protector. I'll just stick to Membrane protectors
To anyone having tried both Membrane screen protectors and Mediadevil protectors, which one is the best? My membrane protectors get veeeery dirty with fingerprints and crap, and cleaning up is not that easy. Crystal clear tho.
The screen protectors have to expose a few essential parts like the the front camera and proximity sensors etc. I don't see what the problem is as just about all of them cover a large percentage, unless you want to paint the phone in wood gloss.
You can use Skinomi wet screen protector and it seems to have a larger surface area and curves around the side edges of the phone. But that expose the screen protector to cases, when you put a case on, the case edges will dig into the screen protectors and lift it up. Skinomi is pretty good with resisting fingerprints and smudges for me.
I'm currently using the "iloome tempered glass" and the only thing it exposes are the front sensors.

Ordered a couple Mediadevil today from Amazon, in a week or so I'll get them. Don't mind if it doesn't cover the entire surface (btw I knew FFC and proximity sensors don't have to be covered).
