Hi everyone,
did any of you ever had the problem that the "messaging" doesn't open?
It happend about 15 times during the one month I use this phone.
Sometimes I press the "messaging"-symbol on the touchscreen but nothing happens. Then I try to navigate through the menü to open up the program but nothing happens there either. All the other functions and programs work correctly but the messaging software simply doesn't respond. A softreset always solves the problem until the next time it occurs (sometimes a few days, sometimes a few hours).
The only programs I have installed are Batti, Xperia Tweak and S2U2 and the phone is branded with Vodafone Austria A1.
Hope someone can get me some advise or bring up a solution (I get a lot of EMails and Text messages each day and it's quite annoying when something does not behave as expected).
Thanks in advance
This happens to me too but i just do a soft reset as you said. It doesn't happen that often though. Maybe its batti? I think it use to happen more on my touch pro where i used batti. Maybe someone else can confirm
Ive had this problem loads, as have many others with no solution. You just have to soft reset. This phone is buggiest phone ive ever owned. Its beyond belief. I dont use batti btw
I have this problem too, i just assigned one of my keys, the silver ones to messaging..i hope they fix it with an update soon
Thank you for your input,
at least it's good to know that I'm not the only one
Maybe this happens when there are a lot of messages in the message center. I deleted the 1000+ text messages EMails even now and will see if this issue occurs again. But this would be no satisfying solution (if it will work) because the messaging ability has been a reason for me to buy the phone
Hey yesterday i noticed a major issue. I was sending quite a few texts and in turn receiving quite a lot back. However after receiving about the 1st four messages they no longer began show up and my tone didn't go off. The only reason i noticed that something wasn't right is because the screen lit up and when i went to inbox there sure enough was an unread message- even though the screen never displayed a new message!!!
Today I'm still experiencing the problem...along with an obviously related issue. Ocassionally when i click on messaging it simply won't open and i find myself soft resetting the phone or turning it off and back on.
Obviously this is a major problem for me!...Please help me! Everything else is fine!
Oh and sometimes the phone randomly wakes up :/
bump!
i got the EXACT same problem, it is so annoying..
it shows no number of unread messages at the enveloppe on the today screen, however when you go in the message boxes there clearly are some unread messages, both e-mails and text messages..
is there ANY way to fix this? it's so incredibily annoying!
Have any of you tried removing some old messages?
I know I had some trouble with messages opening slow, but when I deleted a bunch of messages (and emptied the "deleted" folder), it worked great.
tried that just now with no luck, works on no other panel either..
I deleted my messages too and also uninstalled xperiatweak as ive heard this can cause problems...i havent yet had a chance to check the progress but as for the messaging tab opening up i dont seem to get that issue anymore *touch wood*. I
have noticed however that i get the occassional overload of device.exe errors and i mean overload...once one pops up about at least another 5 do! Even if i press send report or don't send report...it happens. I end up pressing the panel key :/ There are some definate bugs that need sorting.
Actually still no luck with xperiatweak gone...i got quite a series of device.exe errors and then after they'd gone i went to click on messaging and once again nothing happened...nor would contacts show! i think i may need to hard reset the phone!
megh i'd hate having to do a hardreset, don't want to lose my installed appz and having to install plus configure them again >_<
ive just done a hard reset...which i agree is a pain! But wow i forgot how fast the xperia is...i think im going to keep which apps i install to minimum and only install what i need. Obviously the error has been picked up from somewhere... What apps did you previously install? Maybe we have something in common?
torch button, mplaylist manager, neoFTP, pocket scrobbler, remote touch, skype, total commander, xchange r8, youtube panel, google panel, windows live panel... oh yea and tomtom7..
probably some stuff i left out due to them already being uninstalled.. maybe they left some traces in register i dunno..
pardon my french but f*ck this, i just did a hard reset too, will install the english rom too.. stupid dutch windows mobile.. (i know it's not the languages fault but it's an ugly language )
After hard reset...it has just happened again. I then thought it might be vistahide battery as come to think of it it didnt happen before that...been sending testers after getting rid of vistahide and everythin else ok. But i only have the new panels installed...no other add-ons now! So god knows!
Still experiencing this problem from time to time...very annoying! Hard resetted twice and no luck as such. It really is very annoying as i often miss messages if i don't see the screen wake-up Please...anyone know a solution or have this issue? Thanks
Bump .
Anyone?....
"zoelucker
Oh and sometimes the phone randomly wakes up :/"
noticed it happens whenever my mobile got a full bar 3G receptions... what about you guys?
Yes ive noticed a random wake-up and ive thought 'oh that must be another message with no sound grrr' then i look in messaging and no message...so wasn't that and was jus a random wake-up.
It is really starting to irritate me now and today my alarm didn't sound when it's been fine since i've got it! I wondered if the problem was connected? Do you think the new update (well not officially released yet)...the new rom or whatever would solve the problem? Please any light on this...the messaging one is my main problem because I can just set another alarm clock but for messaging...its what a phone should be able to do. Thanks.
Seems like there are few people who are experiencing this problem.
I have the same problem as you all are. I've tried emptying the message but no luck.
If hardresetting doesnt work, then the problem doesnt related to any kind of software we installed?
yea i hard reset twice so i know it doesnt
Its driving me mad now! Its the only issue i have with it and its a real shame because i love my X1 otherwise. Do you think the new FW will solve my problem?
I was receiving messages fine 20 mins ago and then 5 mins ago i got a random screen wake-up but thought it was a message that hadn't come through properly so i tried to go into messaging but it wouldn't open up....i tried everything. clicked it so many times. changed panels. nothing. in the end i had to soft reset the phone :S
I bought this device because I thought the screen would be good for my poor old eyes but...
It doesn't alert me to incoming text (SMS) messages. I've downloaded a couple of programs ('reminders'), including one from this site, but neither will run on my HD. I told HTC that the lack of this alert was a major fault as far as I was concerned but the company seems blithely indifferent.
I'm still using Windows XP (waiting for Windows 7 before I get a new PC) and find ActiveSync a nightmare. It fails several times a week, requiring restarting Outlook 2003 and unplugging and replugging of the HD. I hope its equivalent in Windows 7 works because Microsoft should be ashamed of ActiveSync 4.5.
I've gone back to my trusty Treo 680, with its smaller, lower-resolution screen. It alerts me to incoming texts and synchronizes faultlessly and speedily.
I may well sell my HD in disgust.
you can change the sms alert settings, if you go into notications, you can check the box that says "display message on screen".
basically the HTC home page will show a small 1 next to the message icon, this is how you tell you have a new text. if its not enough for you you can enable the standard windows mobile notification by doing what i said.
i've never had any problems with activesync 4.5. i wonder whats causing it. maybe you should try deleting your partnership and repartnering it.
Have you checked the settings?
Select: start - settings - personal - sounds & notifications - notifications.
Then find the incoming SMS menu item and check you have sound, display message, etc.
Also, in settings - system - screen - text size you can set the font to really big !!
as to Active Sync, this is not good with Outlook 2003. I have now on XP outlook 2007 which is totally reliable with Active Sync. I would recommend an upgrade. One feature in 2007 is the contact photos which I don't think you can do in 2003.
When the HD is in standby mode, the SMS alert does not sound. I have failed to respond to numerous text messages because I didn't know that they had arrived. My Treo always sounds an alert. This is an acknowledged flaw in the HD or WinMo 6.1 and nobody wants to fix it.
I tried to load and run two programs that were supposed to be workarounds but WinMo took exception to them and wouldn't run them (various errors). One was a 'reminder' program from this site (OS Remind Me, IIRC).
I shall upgrade to a new PC (and Office 2007 or its successor) once Windows 7 is out. Whether I shall still have the HD at that juncture remains to be seen. I am at a loss to understand why Palm can synchronize so quickly and effectively and Microsoft, which wrote the blooming OS, can't.
I have put my expensive brick back in its box for the time being and am using my trouble-free (if less flashy) Treo 680 because it gets the basics right.
Funny I get alerts...
A little noise and the vibrattion for the following even when in standby
New Email - Active synch and Gmail
SMS
MMS
And all alerts.
Maybe the Telstra Rom isn't as bad as it seems
I'm using the HTC ROM in the UK.
So am I - standard HTC ROM on O2 network in the UK - and I do get incoming text message alerts. Make sure you've got your notifications set correctly as described above.
I've set everything up correctly but I do not receive notifications if the HD is in standby. HTC has agreed that this is how the software that is in my HD works. If HTC has issued a revision of the software, it hasn't seen fit to tell me despite my lodging a fault report.
I'm on O2 Simplicity 25 (now £20!).
My Treo 680 receives notifications when in standby (I had one this morning!), so it's not 'an O2 thing', it's 'an HTC thing'.
I'm an old hand at using PDAs and smartphones, as well as at using computers. Though I'm in my 60s, my brain still works quite well, so, when I describe what is happening in my case and say that HTC has acknowledged this fault, you can be sure that it is so. I do not deny that you receive notifications; I do not receive them on my HD, though I do on my Treo, and HTC agrees that my HD works as I describe. (HTC even told me that the fault might be cured in a later release of the software.) In any case, if things were otherwise, why would this site offer 'cures' or 'workarounds'?
What cures or workarounds? No one but you has acknowledged this as a flaw, every HTC and WinMobile device receives and notifies you of SMS/Voicemail/Email/Alarms/Reminders/Etc. when in standby. If yours doesn't chances are about 20 million to 1 that you have it set up wrong.
Ya, mine always rings and vibrates when I get a txt/email and/or w/e else I tell it to if it's in standby. I don't know what this 'aknowledged' problem is u speak of.
Maybe your device is faulty. Try getting it changed for a new one...
As per most people here, my HD notifies me when in standby.
Always did this on original rom and Dutty's ones.
+1 as above, my new UK Orange one is fine for sms/e-mails etc. Have you tried a hard reset if you have backed your HD up? Apart from that I'd take the fecker back.
I've cleared the storage because I couldn't get the hard reset to work and then put all the kit back in the box.
Tomorrow, I'll reassemble it, put my SIM in, boot it, and set it up as I want it. Then, I shall see what happens and report back.

Good idea - but can you please check the following?
sound ON, vibrate OFF, ringer vibrate: my Touch HD only vibrates when the display is on. In other words, when in standby mode (display dark), no vibration. And this is no real option since you don't get notified when you get a new sms.
Does this happen to you as well?
Thank you for testing; it's a real bad behaviour that it vibrates for several seconds when the ringer is on. "
Further, http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlackstoneFAQ#SMS has:
"I'm not getting SMS notifications
this may help",
This leads to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446594, which is a thread entitled "message/mail notification not working"
Progress Report!
I've reassembled the HD, applied the HD Tweak tweaks, and reinstalled ActiveSync.
My equivalent of hard reset (clear storage) and HD Tweak seems to be working at present.
However! I am having endless trouble with ActiveSync, which, having taken ages to synchronize, failed to copy all my appointment data to the HD and is now refusing to connect at all! I suppose it's progress but I'm not too sure.
I've now spent 5 hours trying to get ActiveSync to work - that's 60 times as long as it took my Treo 680 to do a complete synchronization. I've just downloaded 4.5 from Microsoft's site and installed it (in case the HTC CD was damaged in any way, however unlikely): it's just chugging along as though it's running on an original IBM PC! If it behaves like it did earlier, it will just quit and refuse to reconnect, requiring me to reboot.
14:24 As expected, ActiveSync disconnected and now can't find the device! I've just cleared storage again and am waiting while the HD initializes...
Seems like a faulty device if NOTHING works good for u... Have u tried one of the custom roms to see if they work? I don't have an Touch HD yet (trying to get my sister in the uk to switch to an O2 contract so i can get it LOL) but as i understand Dutty's is A+ work...
Give that a shot hopefully everything works.
I do have the SMS notifications too. The only bug about alerts reported is the reminder for all-day events.
Concerning a faulty unit, I don't understand how an hardware problem could cause a bug like this ? I mean, if it's hardware (like memory), you should have random freezes or reboots, but a "no SMS ring" is strange for me.
15:50 and the ActiveSync initial synchronization is still running. At least it hasn't disconnected yet.
did you try a sync on another PC ?
My data are on this machine; in any case, I shouldn't have to faff about like that.
My Treo 680, with HotSync Manager, took about 5 minutes to do a complete initial synchronization. Why has ActiveSync taken over 2 hours and still not finished? The only answer that I can think of is that ActiveSync is poorly written. Presumably, Microsoft doesn't care about those customers who still use XP. Windows 7 seems to be better but it's a bit early to be sure.
Hello People,
I know some people have already brought these up but thought i would post them.
I have a HTC HD2 from vodaphone. Current issues I have and HTC are rubbish at fixing and responding to anything. I raised the issue on there website and they responded quickly but when there solution did not fix the issue they havnt replied in a month.
1, SMS, EMAIL, any data service randomly stops working for no reason. Give no indication and has stopped but has signal and will make, receive calls.
2, Random slow downs. With nothing open on the phone and nothing open, the phone freezes. When replying to a text or email i can type and then the phone randomly stops displaying what im typing on screen. The keyboard shows that I am still typing but nothing in the message. Works if i close the message and start again.
3, Lock Screem randomly stops responding and alot of the time will not lock.
4, I get random messages about the dialing modem not responding and have to reboot the phone.
5, Cannot download/install roms from the htc website. Says its not available for my device when i put the serial number in.
Ive had to use the rom for htc from here and use the gold card message to just update it.
Info -
OS - 5.2.21869(21869.5.0.82)
manila - 2.5.19211619.0
ROM - 1.489.405.2(71294)WWE
ROM Update - 11/18/09
Radio - 2.05.51.05_2
Protocol Version - 15.28.50.07U
Hope somebody can help as Im getting close to putting this phone on ebay if i cant rely on it to send sms's.
Do you have installed htcAddicts CleanRam? Despite putting Manila, CommMgr, etc in the exception list, cleanRam shut down my data connection after every run. So, if you have it installed, deinstall it for a while and see what happens. Maybe this does not work for you, but for me it surely did. Oh yes, and BTW do not install the HTC's Sim Card hotfix because this will update your radio to version 2.06 etc and this will also interfere with data connection and the loss of it.
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I dont have clear ram installed. This happens with no other extra software installed thaen the default htc stuff.
Also forgot to add -
The cursor also moves to the top line about 3/4 across when I switch to the numbers input screen from letters and causes me to put the symbols halfway through th etop line of text.
If you're after official ROMS then it's up to Vodaphone to release updates, not HTC.
The reply fro HTC to my origional issues (including the pink boxes on the camera) was to point me to a rom they wont let me download and then not to respond after I couldnt download it. Seems like a a very bad company to me but I will contact vodaphone about it.
The hotfixes dont seem to work for the SMS's either.
Everytime i use windows live messenger if its inactive for like 20 seconds it just drops out and it keeps showing that i sign in and sign out the entire time on other computers and its getting really annoying.
Is there anyway to fix this issue or has anyone had the same problem?
Same problem here... and no, haven't found a fix for this.
Also, sometimes when it drops the connection also drops the phone so people that call you will get voicemail even when you see everything OK on screen.
Then, when you try to make a call it freezes.
Anoying.
