Hi,
I've just bought my wife a Herald (P4350) here in Moscow. It comes with Windows Mobile 5 in Russian and we really need to change it to English. I've been referred here as the best place for help on how to do this but looking around this forum there is a huge variety of information that is quite confusing for the noob (which I am for this type of thing!)
Can anyone tell me how to change the ROM? I don't know if it's cid locked or anything else! You'll need to tell me how I can check, if you don't mind. It's just branded as HTC. I don't mind if the ROM is WMM 5 or 6 as long as it's in English.

Upgrade your phone with the official WM6 HTC ROM. Then if it's still not in english, use any of our custom ROMs as they're almost all in English.
IF you decide to HardSPL, please take note of the SPL version you have or you will brick your device.

Thanks for the advice ivanmmj. The official update is in Russian as this is the only option it gives to download. Can you please tell me what HardSPL means? I notice other people mentioning it but I don't know what it means.
[edit] It seems that HardSPL is something that provides a more foolproof way of changing ROMS. As I am a complete newbie at this, I am worried of trying something that will render my wife's phone useless! She needs it for work.
Is it possible to upgrade my ROM to the official English WM6 ROM found in the Herald WIKI of this site? Will I have to unlock the CID?
You cannot use the official WM6 update to get it in English,
you will get a Invalid Vendor ID error, You should flash the official
WM6 RUssian first, then download USPL.
Now Download the desired ROM (pick one you like there are enough)
And always read instructions!!

Read the Instructions in the USPL folder,
Put the downloaded ROM in .nbh format in the RUU folder.
If you have questions please post before just trying,
you don't want a Brick like many of us (including me) have owned

No you can't, Invalid Vendor ID error will occur.
If you really want Hrd-SPL,
Upgrade to WM6 Russian first, Hard-SPL needs an SPL higher than4.xx
You can try Hard-SPL indeed, but flash official WM6 first(!!!)

Upgrade to the russian WM6 first, before HardSPLing and verify that you have the correct SPL version before you start.

When You first launch rom, it ask you Turkish or English.
I installed it and am using it. It's really worth updating.
The battery life, signal etc is way better.

The turkish is the only language avalaible at this moment because HTC's Tech Center is in Ankara, Turkey cool. So all news staffs from HTC are allways first in turkish. But HTC will release WWE versions soon. Keep in touch...
Yes, goldcard is needed if you flash to anything different from your stock rom (as in, different region)...
About spl, nobody knows (except the ones working on it maybe hehe) so just wait and see... Hopefully before the new year.

WWE stands for World Wide English and denotes that a ROM will be in the English language. It should have regional settings for most English regions, thoough some don't.
SPL is much more important, and is the sub-code which allows the boot sectors to be written to. Most WinMo devices are locked to a carrier and/or a region and MUST have the SPL modified before attempting to update the ROM, otherwise at best the ROM won't install, and at worst the device will become totally unresponsive, requiring serious work to recover.
If you are unsure, don't mess, as modifying the SPL will invalidate your warranty If you still want to proceed, then read up everything first.

You guys should total up the donations ... and then offer a it up as a total BOUNTY to entice a programmer to develop a ROM, I have seen this used with great success on other forums.
You can flash the" offical rom " to change the language different.

because htc mobiles check the "vendor id" burned inside the rom
Does it mean those ROMs are only for unlocked HTC Minis or what? I ordered mine today (unlocked) and my idea is to flash it with one of those to change the language (it's coming in Italian). Can I do that?

you can not flash it till get the hard spl.
it will show 1% and restar again.

go to the official HTC website, in the HD2 area, search for the "ROM upgrades" section, and put in there your phone IMEI/Serial number, it will let you download the rom update only if it's officially supported for your phone.
You can use the version downloaded from the official website with your serial number to flash back to original, it's not necessary that you have the same identical rom you had when you bought the phone as long as it is a supported one.
Don't forget to install the original SPL as well.

Only the Radio (GSM) part is flashed on a Radio ROM, not all parts as for branded a ROM,

Hi,
See the branded ROMs thread where there are 2 ROMs for your phone under TMO_DE section.
The 1st one is your phone's ROM 1.25.111.05 while the 2nd is a newer one.
You can flash the 2nd one and can come back to the initial one.
After that you can see the unbranded ROMs thread.
This thread is for Radio only update that you should visit after all.
