Volume control in Media Players - HD2 General

Am i the only one totally baffled by the volume control?
in the HTC media player tab, it seems to move up and down through items instead of changing the volume (which seems ridiculous to the extreme)
However - once for me it did change the system volume rather than changing the items - and i have no idea why?
how are you supposed to change the volume while listening to the media player?? the only way i can find it to navigate AWAY from that tab and then use the volume keys!!!
So... i gave up on the HTC media player... and used windows media player....
the volume control was working fine.. it changed the volume in windows media player
THEN (again - i dont know why!!!!) now it doesnt change the windows media player volume -it changes the system volume - i get a little half screen green and grey popup over the bottom half of the screen - its not even the same volume control HTC app as in the rest of the system?!??!
so can anyone tell me..
1) how on EARTH can i get the volume control to consistently change the volume
2) ideally it would do this without having to unlock the device!

yes this really pisses me off. especially because yesterday even in music player it DID change the volume and not the song.

Ok AEBPlus solved it for me. i've set it to ALWAYS use those buttons as volume (and it works while the phone is locked) conrols on the headset to skip tracks backwards and forwards
if only audio manager didnt crash every 60 seconds
and this is ridiculously poor for a £500 device!!!! i dont expect to have to install russian freeware to change the volume on my media player!!!!

Windows Media Player problem plz read

my Windows Media Player in my Magician does not save the last audio volume it always remains at 70 if i close it and re-open it whatever volume i set it to e.g. 100%.
the other thing is that when i decrease the volume to 0% i can still hear the song playing albeit in a more quiet volume.
anybody faced this problem before? please help
many thanks in advance
once upon a tima i had the same problem.
it has to do with the system volume (tap the speaker in your task bar to adjust). if you set up this volume to 70% your media player will take the same value. just change your system volume and the wmp will change, too
i have the same problem... the system volume is set to 100% but player still comes up as 70% everytime. any reg hack?
Same here...
Although I wanted to turn the volume down really low so I could listen to music at work and still hear whats going on around me. Which you can't do. Even if you set it to 0% (with the system volume at one notch off mute).
Have had to buy a set of headphones with an inline volume control...ho hum..
My player volume stays at what I set it to though.
Cheers

Here's the fix for your problem

Volume (default) fix on Windows Media Player.

I was having problems adjusting the volume on Windows Media Player and getting it to stay at the same level next time I open it.
(The reason being I wanted to reduce the volume to 0% as I have the Motorola HT820 bluetooth headphones, and I don't want to tick automute cos the phone doesn't ring and I can't use Voice Command, and I don't want music blaring out of the internal speaker when I am listening on the headphones.) Every time I closed Windows Media Player using Pocket Plus, it would reset the volume again.
This is a fix/workaround. Open Windows Media Player, start playing a song, adjust the volume to desired level, then pause the song. Next, go to Start, Settings, Memory, Running Programs, and close Windows Media from there. Next time you open, hey presto, the volume level has been saved.
I have spent hours searching for a registry fix etc.....and didn't realise the problem was as a result of closing Windows Media with Pocket Plus's Close utility.
Hope this helps people out there.

Volume rocker in Youtube and email LED

Hi,
When using the youtube app the volume rocker acts as rewind/fast forward and doesnt change the volume. This is really annoying. Is there any way to change this as I dont want to go into a youtube video, assess the volume of the vid, come out of it and then set the handset volume accordingly.
Secondly, is there a way to enable the notification LED to blink when email is received to the handset? Looked in settings but the option to enable it is greyed out...
Seconded on the YouTube thing. What were they thinking? Any tips?
Indeed.... can't really tell you how much I didnt enjoy loading up a gaga video only to have my ears DESTROYED by beyonce's wailing as she was in the song too
I had the first problem for a while too, here's how I fixed it:
-Download, install and start AEButton
-Disable the volume rocker buttons
-Re-enable them
-AEButton will now tell you that it'll restart the device, let it do so
-Fixed
I don't have HD2 yet, but the HTC volume control should have a custom setting for the Youtube app in order for it to work properly. On other HTC devices, it's under HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\InhouseAPClass\YouTube and should be HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\InhouseEnable2ndUI\HTCYOUTUBE. Do you guys have these keys? If not, you can try to create them and value under them, ClassName=HTCYOUTUBE and Enable2ndOverlay=0 respectively. Also, you could try to go to HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\3rdPartyAPClass, create a key there (name it anything, could be YouTube), and ClassName=HTCYOUTUBE under it. The latter hack allows to have the youtube-style volume control in any application (I use it for CorePlayer, for example).
Hope this will work...
Sigh, just found out that when playing a song under the music tab - and you use the volume rocker, surprise surprise it doesnt actually control the volume at all! It controls the track listings.
Bah! This is a STUPID idea, a shame really!!
WHAT??? Volume rocker doesn't control volume during playback? And how are we supposed to do it?
Correct. Unless it's just mine, but I doubt it?
How to control volume you ask? Well that's simple.
You come OUT of the music application and then adjust the volume, and then go back INTO the application..... Logical.
That's a damn stupid design decision. Beside the inconvenience, music player doesn't need to have the same volume level as the rest of the phone! On my HD I have maximum volume for system/ringer, whereas my music player is set to like 20%. When I plug the headphones in and start it, it's set automatically to this level - otherwise I'd be deaf by now.
And does this happen both with the headset plugged in and without it? Again, on Touch HD you can adjust volume even when the device is turned off while music is playing.
So could anyone check the registry keys I mentioned earlier? Hopefully, it's just a missing setting...
Just read my post again on how to fix it, and no, it's not a design decision, it used to just control the volume for me, it only started controlling playback once I used the mediacontrols on the headset.

Volume Rocker
The Volume rocker works perfectly for me in both YouTube & Music player.
volume keys work for volume in both youtube and music for me..
is there anything you've installed that could interfere?
Hi Fards, great to see you in this thread. You were a valuable asset at ironing out bugs & probs when I was using Itjes Xperia ROM's. I'm sure you will be here too.

Now that just makes it a whole lot worse. I had nothing installed when I tested YouTube originally. Volume controls control cue/reverse. Does that mean unit defective?

Maybe different rom?
Lack of attention to details and throughness so often causes user dissatisfaction.

Possibly. Though its a stock rom sim-free unit. Even if its just a software bug or a rom issue, average Joe (or Josephine) shouldn't have to go hacking the registry, or what not, to fix it. Imagine trying to explain that convoluted series of (potentially disastrous) steps just to make your bloody volume button WORK...
Different roms should not justify this oddity.

Indeed, it would appear it is a problem with the headset, damn bizarre.
This is what happened with me anyway...
Listened to music with the headset in and then the volume controls control the track playback, not the volume, whilst you are IN the application. As soon as you come out then yea that's fine it controls the volume again.
When you disconnect the headset, the settings don't seem to revert and once you go back into the music application, the volume rocker still controls the damn playback not the volume......
.... actually i don't know. From using my headset yesterday I've just tried adjusting volume in the music app now this morning and the volume rocker isnt doing ANYTHING when in the music application....

Resetting seems to solve the problem, don't know when the problem will re-occur though. To be honest, I don't know how to alter registries and things like that!
oh this is ridiculous there HAS to be a way to fix this.. i dont ever want these to do anything OTHER than volume.
OR have a volume control on the inline
at the moment i have skip controls on the headphones AND skip controls on the side of the phone!

[Q] Adjusting volume in music player

While trying to adjust the volume on the HTC music player tab using the left hardware volume rocker the music temporarily cuts for about 2-3 seconds before the volume changes. There is no visual volume indicator on the screen either. Also the increments are pretty large.
I am running 1.48
Does anyone have this problem? Help please!

HD2 : manage volume when screen is black

Hi gurus,
I would like to be able to change volume when screen is turned off. Do you have a tweak?
Many thanks in advance
This is true, it gets REALLY annoying especially when I'm listening to music and can't adjust the volume with the screen off. Would love to see this problem fixed, especially since it was alleged that the HTC stock earphones had "volume control capabilities" (sigh....).
Had to resort to choosing between a HTC earphone with "forward", "backward", "call answer" capabilities, or a normal (and much better sound quality) earphone with volume control.
Tough choice eh? So yeah, I'm just typing this to bump this thread up, hopefully this would get fixed soon!!!
I use the HTC Music Player and the volume controls work for me on the side of the phone. Not sure what player you may be using, but I like to use the hardware supported software for reasons like these.

Wooohoo!! Thanks!
p/s: Another question, would u guys have any idea how to reduce the volume bar increments from 3 bars to 1 bar? I know this can be done by adjusting the on screen volume bar via touching it. But using the volume rocker with the screen off while listening to music doesn't actually help, does it? It either gets too loud or too soft when I click on the volume rocker.
Is there any way of doing this without having to use the HTC player?
I have a preference for a different player (pocket player) but wish I didn't have to turn on the screen to access the volume controls.
