Help needed on software issues - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

1) I’m using SPB Pocket Plus, Phone Suite & Diary. Will SPB shell take up more footprint den this combination? (dun wanna have a laggy device).
2) When an email comes in & I tap on the ‘notification’ softkey, I’ll get an error msg – “An error has occurred with shell32.exe”. I’ve sent my TP2 back to HTC for firmware upgrade, but the problem still exists.
3) When a sms comes in, I have to manually go into the sms & go thru it, then it’ll be cleared & not reflect as an “unread sms”. Clicking on the ‘sms notification’ icon on my SPB phone suite, will open up the history of all the sms-es but I still have to go thru it just to clear the unread notice. Is there any short cuts/ registry tweaks to clear the unread notice without having to open up every single unread sms?
4) I cannot copy text inside my sms. I’ve to enable “select text” before I can copy text. Is there any registry tweak I can do to make it permanent? Cos its very troublesome having to enable "select text" each time.
5) I can’t copy text in my msn, any way to go abt it?
6) Does speedbooster work to speed up the switching of the screen & overall speed of applications?
7) I cannot see “tmail.exe” on my task manager, how do I go abt finding it? Read that there's a need to disable tmail.exe before restoring sms using pimbackup to avoid “mass grouping” of my sms-es. Currently it is all grouped by the contact and me, the contact all above and mine all below, its very disrupting.
8) There’s a ‘re-sizing’ tool for Opera which will automtically “re-size the input box to fit the screen. Have tried Opera Form Fixer, but it doesn’t work… Even with the manual method prescribed in the xda link.
Anyone knows of other programs with the same function?
Greatly appreciate everyone's advise to help me with them.

Upz for help needed.

Hi Canjoy,
Sorry for not being able to help on any of your questions and responding with a question of my own!
Are you using Pocket Plus with WM6.5 from HTC installed? I ask that question because I'm using a cooked 6.5 ROM on my Blackstone with Pocket Plus. However, all of the File Explorer extensions are broken and I was wondering whether you had that problem on your Rhodium.
SPB won't respond to queries regarding cooked ROMS so it would be helpful to know if the problem exists on a stock HTC ROM.
Thanks for your help.
Steve

Hi,
Cos I'm not on WM6.5, so can't really help you on that too. So sorry.

Help with O2 SMS Plus

I have installed O2 SMS Plus and the patch. I can send sms successfully , however the replies made by the person only show in my inbox, the don't show in O2 sms plus at all! Does someone have a fix for this? Any help would be great as i'm dying for this program to work!
Are you sure?
You do not need a patch I think, only one cab is doing well. (but O2Plus needs a patch)
Which version of "SMS+" is yours? Try this it works well at least for me
will this work for my MDA US (tmobile)?
Give it a try. Won't lose anything.
8)
That was the same program that I had before, I have removed it, and re-installed it several times, but to no avail....I can send sms from it perfect...but everyone who replies to me, the sms go straight to the normal inbox and don't even show in the os sms plus program. I have read numerous posts of people who have it running fine, I just don't understand why I can't get the damn program to work right!
don't know if this has any bearing, but....
maybe you have spb pocket plus or a similar app running, and did not include o2smsplus.exe in the exceptions list (only tmail.exe)?
I've noticed that O2 SMS Plus V1.2 (01060606) is the latest version of O2 SMS Plus
Anybody got a change to see what's different? Except from the numbers of course
where can one download 1.2?
The only thing that I have running that I could think would cause a problem would be pocketbreeze, do you tink that disabling this would help?
When you use O2 SMS Plus you have to close your standard Inbox.
Did you do this?
I also use PocketBreeze, and O2 SMS Plus works fine..
Were you able to get SMS Plus to be the default application?

My messaging program is not running, is there another way to close my inbox? I just don't have it open, maybe I am not doing something right....how do I go about actually closing my inbox?
You should be able to close it when you go to:
Start -> Settings -> System -> Memory-> Active Programs
But when you don't use a program with Task Manager, like MagicButton, vBar, PocketPlus etc. Then I believe it should close the Inbox without the use of any extra program
[edit]
I've noticed that you use PocketPlus. You can just tap on the top right. You should be able to see the Inbox in the running programms. Just press the X to close it.
[/edit]
Have you tried the version attached in the second post?
Humm, where to download version 1.2 again?
I tried the version in the second post...still same problem ....
1.2 isn't available for download.. ..it's part of the O2 Atom Exec ROM
i see. and whats new in 1.2 compared to 1.1?

[new release] VJSlippyPalm - Toggles Palm Messaging

VJSlippyPalm
Guys, a quick app:
see here for the Palm Messaging App
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280256
Once installed, you lose some access to the normal inbox, which you may still want.
Using VJSlippyPalm, you can assign the app to a hardware key.
Running VJSlippyPalm will then launch the Palm Messaging app.
However, pressing it again will close Messaging and instead switch to the normal Inbox. And vice versa.
If you have one of the apps already launched in the background, it will jump to that app (eg if Inbox is open, and you're on the Today screen, it will jump to Inbox)
By default it will close the other app.
You can launch it with a command line -min to minimise instead, for whatever reasons.
-about will show information about the app.
Download from my website.
V
PS: please note, this is not an app to uninstall the Palm Messaging App. It just switches between the different screens. Backup your system before installing Palm Messaging!
lol...well, that was fast!
Will give it a shot now...thanks.
Very nice, although I get a slow screen redraw between Messaging and Outlook E-Mail. Any ideas? On a i-mate JASJAM.
Okay this probably has something to do with Messaging closing, rather than minimising.
I understand creating a shortcut with "-min", but how to assign this shortcut to the Messaging hard key?
hmmm... i installed the palm messaging app and did the registry. i lost the sms/mms on inbox. is using this software will bring the sms/mms in the inbox or will this just switch between the two?
beatrix - it's nothing sophisticated, it just switches between the normal inbox and the palm app. It won't modify registry or fix anything that's already been broken
To assign the -min version to a hardware key, go into your start menu, find the existing shortcut to VJSlippyPalm, copy it, paste it, and then edit the copy. You want to amend the shortcut to just say
"....blah blah\vjslippypalm.exe" -min
Click to collapse
Rename the shortcut to VJSlippyPalm Min.lnk
And then launch that in the normal way from Settings > Buttons.

Legend, thanks!
What is the difference between the Palm threaded app in that link above (that was removed) and the one here on freewareppc.com?

That one is the triangle powers .Net app. It's not integrated nicely like the Palm version and was very buggy when I tried it and very slow to load.
cant install cab from site on phone
hey, i tried dling the cab from your site directly from my phone, but it just brought me to a webpage with a whole lot of source code and stuff.
Seems ok to me:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjslippypalm/vjslippypalm.cab
paste it in to your browser, should work.
V
hey, tried it again and it still didnt work. tried in pie and opera.
Weststar - I didn't know you were using your PDA to browse. I could attach it as an attachment, but I don't like doing that as I like to update the cabs on my website as I develop them - attaching it will cause a static link of course. Could you use your PC to download instead? Worst case I'll attach.
V
well im at school right now, so i cant do it on my computer. but whatever works out for you is fine with me =)
do you /anybody know if the Palm's thread messaging implies all the SMS will go from the default inbox to the Palm's own database? i.e. if you open the default mail application, will it still be able to read all old sms.
to Zenkins:
I'm guessing you already have your answer by now, but to you or in case anyone else wonders, after install your SMS will NOT go to the old messaging database. I assure you this minor drawback is not worth passing the Palm threaded messaging app up though. It works beautifully! The lack of threading was my biggest and only serious complaint about my CHT-9000 (Hermes/TyTN/8525) since leaving my Treo 600. I use SPB backup to backup the databases daily in any case so for me at least, it's a non-issue.
Err, just realized I misread... I'm pretty sure the install killed my old SMS database. I'm not 100% certain I did have anything in it since I had just flashed the ROM and started fresh, but I'm pretty sure i did.
I don't understand. Which install killed your db?
VJSlippyPalm certainly shouldn't, it doesn't touch any databases, and AFAIK the Palm app shouldn't destroy it either, hence the use of VJSlippyPalm to switch between the two apps, which can co-exist well. However, I don't use the Palm app so can't say definitively.
V
thanks, I have figured that the old SMS will be lost. in anycase, I tried installing the palm messaging, it hung on me when I try to compose the message, or if it manage to compose and send, it goes straight into the sentbox, but the message doesn't get send out at all.
any idea?
Really no idea, as I said, I don't use it. Try googling for VJSlippyPalm and it'll take you to the another website that packaged up the Palm app. They've discussed bugs etc there.

Is there a way to make another SMS default?

I didn't know where to put this, and i'll try one last time to see if anyone knows how to make SMS chat (the program) default instead of the windows one? I know you could make icontact default for contacts, so Im guessing there probably is SOME way to do this??
If there is not, is there a way to have the windows sms program show ALL texts instead of having to click on "show older" each time? (I have threaded text messaging on)
thank you!!
(i posted this in the wrong forum before I think, which is why I posted it here, not trying to post everywhere, sorry!)
btw I have a Sprint CDMA HTC Diamond (running mighty rom)
er how do you change the title of this? lol
You're in the right place just you might wanna rewrite the title so theres no confusion. Change it to something like "[REQ] New SMS Program" or something like that. And also i'm pretty sure PocketCM can be used to manage your SMS' so.. maybe you should give that a try.
well due to (i dont think you can make this program default on everything on this phone and integrate it completely), I have only one last question, is there a way for windows mobile sms to show ALL the texts at once, or at least alot more (like by scrolling up) instead of having to hit the "older" button and then "newer" everytime?

well, maybe not the right answer but might be close to what you want. go download and install home2 (free). after you got it going, go to their forum "applet showcase", there is a tread about applet store. look for modification for "messaging". donwload and copy over the messaging directory, restart home2 and your all set. a very cool applet and a real cool UI from home2.
can pim backup-backup sms's from another chat program too? When I use sms-chat its good, but when I go into the windows mobile sms it only keeps all the sms's that are sent to me and doesn't have ANY that I sent out USING the sms-chat from vitro.
I stopped using the sms chat b/c of that and b/c I wanted a way to back up all my sms's, so just wondering if it can back up that too?
(and if anyone has found a way to show all texts on windows sms instead of having to "view older" each time?)
thanks!!
if you mean sms-chat is not showing your part or the conversation then this is what you need to do.
1. open default messaging program
2. choose SMS \ MMS
3. choose menu at the bottom right and then tools from there. You will see an options button on the tools tab.. choose that.
4. then choose the message tab on the bottom and make sure there is a check on keep copies of sent items in Sent folder. (If its not select it and sms-chat will now show both you and whoever you are talking and what you both are saying. AKA threaded sms)
Questions are THAT way --> Q&A section

[App] Palm Threaded messaging - WORKING MMS!!!

Post by Hannip on Treo central:
hannip said:
Need beta testers to try out this port of the Palm Threaded SMS app from the Treo 800w.
There are two cabs. One for the Sprint Treo Pro and another for the GSM Treo Pro.
Some known issues with this beta:
- No notification icon appears on the today screen when an sms comes in. This is actually a bug with the original program.
- MMS voice record fails initialization. Most likely due to different hardware.
- MMS receive fails on download step. (Sprint only)
Muffnician reported that sMMS works as a workaround to view MMS for Sprint users. Also go to Menu->Options in the Palm SMS app and uncheck the checkbox for "Automatically collect MMS Messages" to avoid getting download errors. GSM users can ignore this. You don't have this limitation.
Note that you will not be able to access or transfer your outlook sms messages into Palm SMS. Well maybe you can transfer 10 at a time each time Palm SMS starts., but there is no other way to do it
Installation instructions:
1) BACKUP your device using Sprite.
2) Download and extract the cab from the zip file and install it on your device.
3) Soft reset the device (use a program to do this to be safe)
4) When the device boots go to the Today screen settings to position/enable/disable the plugins as desired.
5) There will be a link in Programs called "Palm Messaging". This should open Palm sms. It should also show up in the Button settings so you can assign it to a key.
That's it.
Test sending and receiving sms and mms messages. Report any issues you find.
Thanks to cjohnson19401 for creating some webspace for me to upload the cab files for those that don't have access to rapidshare.
For Sprint Treo Pro:
RapidShare: Easy Filehosting
you can also get it here.
http://carlnet.no-ip.org/phone/hannip/Palm 800w Threaded SMS beta1.zip
For GSM Treo Pro on AT&T/Cingular:
RapidShare: Easy Filehosting
you can also get it here.
http://carlnet.no-ip.org/phone/hannip/Palm 800w Threaded SMS GSM beta2.zip
Uninstall instructions:
1) Go to Start->Settings (Personal tab) and select the Today settings icon.
2) Select Items tab and uncheck boxes for "Messaging" and "Inbox".
3) Hit ok to refresh the today screen.
4) Soft reset
5) After boot go to Start->Settings (System Tab) and select the Remove Programs icon.
6) Select Palm Messaging and click Remove.
7) Soft reset

Install the GSM version and take note of how I got to make it work, your MMS app may be different and you must always back up in the registry before you delete something in case you cant use MMS any more. Here is the post I made which found out how to make it work.
~~Tito~~ said:
I got it to work! When I was seeing what the problem was, i found out that the OEM MMS application was missing. So I gave up a late night and flashed and restored my back up. Well what ever happened my palm threaded text messaging worked!! I had previously installed it in my back up and it couldn't send any, now i tested it just to see and it works! You can find it here.
Ok, it stops being able to send after a soft reset. . . I will see what I can do to fix it. If anyone wants to pitch in, then pitch in . This is the latest version of the palm threaded messaging that works!
Edit #2: Ok, I got it. Just delete the MMS Key in the registry that samsung has. If you have installed Arcsoft Uninstall it and delete that key as well. Delete: "HLM\Software\Samsung\MMS" and if you installed arcsoft and uninstalled it delete: "HLM\Software\Arcsoft"
I've soft resetted twice with no issues.
We got the best mms/sms app around, 0 lag and 100% mms working!

Once you figure out what you need to delete send a MMS and receive an MMS to make sure it works. If your not on at&t, then you can change the settings with in the application.
Working on:
-VGA
-QVGA
-320x320
-240x240
Works, but iffy:
-WQVGA- Graphical Issues, needs more confirmationSolution to make message size limit to 600kb:
HLM/Software/Palm/Varnish/Messaging/MMS/MaxMsgSize "614400"

What would be the benefits of using this instead of the OEM windows threaded messaging?
Its faster and simpler to use, no more wm text lag, less of a resource hog, plus all the conversations save to one file for easy back up. Its the best just trust me .
can i use it for diamond?
QVGA?
How many percent of resources?
You guys have to try it out, to see what display issues happen, or don't happen.
Also,
It replaces the default Messaging app. So when you uninstall it, the default messaging app might not reappear. If that happens make a shortcut from "tmail.exe" in windows, back to the original location(Usually \Windows\Start Menu") it was and rename it to messaging or what ever you'd like.
System resources:
Ram takes like 1mb-4mb
The lower amount would be when its idle.
CPU will be around 0%-32%, Maybe less, because it only goes up when a new message comes in then instantly goes back to zero.
The lower amount would be when its idle.
screenies?
I will post later. Just test it out and see what issues you may run into.
I would like to see screenies before testing ANY application
I cant upload any screen shots right now since I tried from my phone and it wouldn't(away from my pc). I am on a short trip to mexico, and I am in california right now, but when I am in mexico, I am going to shut off data to avoid any charges. If you see uploaded images then it worked finnaly, hehe.
If your doubting this application, do a quick search on here for "palm threaded sms".
does this version address the issue of messages sometimes being stuck in the out box and resending itself, will there be vga support in the future?
wow! i can finally throw out my old (almost 3 years old) cab from treo 750. mms working like they should, nicer program icon and some minor changes. not so big step forward but better this than nothing now i can uninstall arcsoft 4.0X and still have mms capability!
any chances for working oem package?

Here are my issues:
1) Did not pull my sent messages over and create a conversation, just my inbox. Not sure if this is related to the fact that my messages were threaded in my default inbox though.
2) There is no notification icon on the taskbar (really the deal breaker for long term use)in case I don't see the SMS right away, and since don't use the Today screen the message counter located there is not of much use to me.
3) Default network connection is My ISP, but I changed that to medianet, so that it won't disconnect my data to send/receive mms, but rather uses my default connect.
4) Really needs a GUI facelift overall. Definitely works though for those that love palm messaging.
5) I didn't look into it too much, but I think the max size of mms messages needs to be fixed too, it's compressing them more than I'd like.
Attached some screenshots
Testing now... Will post results and screen shots... running a Sprint touch pro...
As of right now, palmsms is still unable to download sprint mms... Have tried many things so far... Still trying...
Any other sprint users test yet?

Disabled HTC Messages has a problem

first ,My English is too bad ..
I Use Diamond 2 with UDK WM6.5 R3 ROM
I dont like "HTC Messages" so i Install the "Disable HTC Messages.cab"
On the Desktop and StartMenu ,Messages is not HTC Messages ! (Very Good)
but. when i recive a new text messages . Top bar have a icon for new messages
I click that icon ,and Display"1 new message",then click that ,Display the HTC messages again
What should I do ,Disabled HTC Messages on the Top bar ?
Thank you !
(My English is too bad. ..)
here is the resolution
copy my post at Blackstone ROM forum:
Here's something I want to share.
Unfortunately NRG didn't make any ROM without HTC Messaging Client and his ROM performance particularly Manila 2.5 performance is blatantly dragged down by this HTC Messaging Client!
Zenkinz's disabling HTC Messaging cab may be the solution available but it still requires an extra exe file to run and stay resident in memory for capturing incoming SMS event and to take further actions.
Anyway, I went deep into the Registry and made this reg file to remove all possible traces of HTC Messaging Client, to result completely preventing the phone to load HTC Messaging Client from the beginning of the phone boot up. This includes removal of any traces of HTC Messaging Client in Notification Manager. Hence, with this registry modification, I don't need to install zenkinz disable HTC Messaging cab (which has extra exe file specifically to run to capture incoming SMS and further actions).
Now my phone is running faster than ever! All SMS apps work, MMS also works (with Arcsoft MMS) no more hurdle with Jataayu MMS!! Incoming SMS counts and notifications and lock screens are all working!!!
Notes:
1. Please use Task Manager to import this Reg. Resco File Explorer seems detect it as error.
2. If you're interested with what I did, just feel free to explore further inside the .reg file.
3. Warning: I didn't prepare a backup Registry file in case you want to fall back to the original HTC Messaging enabled setup (I don't need them!). So try at your own risk!! If you're a HTC Messaging hater, you don't mind right?
4. few known side effects due to removal of HTC Messaging Client
a) Sending SMS from HTC Contact and the Contact's Messages tab are not functioning anymore (it needs HTC Messaging Client integrated with HTC Contact Manager)
b) tapping on Manila Messages' message won't take you to anywhere (supposedly to threaded SMS page) but bounce back.
Thank you so mush !
it's prefect!
So cool!
It's a good tool.
import
thanks, but how to import it with task manager?
this fix works, however doesn't remove Messaging in 100% from the system.
For example functions of People tab still uses this application. It's not too bad if you want to select/edit contact. But when you want to write SMS using this menu... you are done.
In my case, I wrote message in HTC Messaging fired from people tab but while sending I got strange requester to chose method
[C] No Operator
[G] No Operator
I have not to say that after chosing one the message has not been sent.
as I said only use fdcsoft task manager3.1 to import. I confirm that using Resco explorer import it will miss out some reg removals. try again
I still don't know how to open it i've got the file and the fdcsoft task manager but how do i fix this?
seems to be an easier idea to modified the 486d3b1a_manila file to point to wm sms threaded view when a message on HTC sms is clicked.
for wm 6.1 there was a modded 47dd6acd_manila file floating around that did the same thing, in wm 6.5 htc change the name to 486d3b1a_manila but they also changed a lot in manila.. i haven't figured out how to do it.
if anyone want to try, look in that file (486d3b1a_manila) in windows directory.. maybe figure out a way to just redirect to wm sms when you click on htc sms.
I have used the remover and everything works good except the notification LED light of my D2. please help me to solve this problem? Thanks a lot!!
