I want to know if its possible to fix the god awful software keyboard. The thing just plain sucks you can not type fast on it without it skipping letters or not picking up correct keys typed. This might have a lot to do with the muti touch not being fully implemented but if it can ripped from hero roms and implmented into the browser why not the keyboard? I currently own a G1 and a Mytouch and using the Mytouch is just a terrible experience. Now I want to know if a Dev would want to look into this because its something that needs serious fixing and would be an amazing fix for the mytouch and future keyboard-less android phones.
Sorry had to vent a little :]
Thanks!

so the fcc has approved the magic for tmobile. what does that mean for us g1ers.
Depends on the cost and hardware. I hear its pretty much the exact same as the G1 inside and if thats the case I most likely wont. However, if the GPS reciever is better then maybe. My only gripe with the G1 since it never seems to work for me.

i don't see the point at all.
now that we nearly have the Magic ROM ported to the G1 i don't see the need to spend money to get nearly exactly the same phone but without a keyboard.(which is the best part if you ask me )
the only way i'd get one is if when my contract runs out and they offer it me as an upgrade.
I like it dont get me wrong..but like many G1 users (probably) its got to have the keyboard...some complain to me they dont like their G1 because it has a keyboard and lackof onscreen keyboard...but I rather have the keyboard and more screen space...
Ill be keeping my G1
I'll keep my G1 too the only thing that the g1 does not have that the magic does is more rom memory and that's because the rom in the Magic is bigger other than that is the same hardware less the keyboard. (I don't like screen keyboard they drive me crazy). One thing I don't know yet is if they are using the full power of the processor in the Magic as I have red before in the G1 is running like a half, but this still is not a reason I think that later you will see a overclock app for the g1 as they are for the winmo.
And like somebody else said haykuro almost have the HtcMagic rom ported to the G1.
Hey everyone, I've currently been using a Mytouch 3g and well I need a phone with a keyboard lol I just like the faster response keyboard phones have. So I was wondering which would be a better buy if I wanted a phone with a keyboard that operates on android....
morola cliq G1 or (??) if there's another one that runs android?
Also if I did decide to get the cliq, would i be able to still rom it like i did my MT3G?
thanks for your help
For T-Mobile There is also the Behold 2. I don't know if you will still be able to flash roms. You don't be able to flash roms from this site because this is for htc phones. You are going to have to find another forum. I don't know if you will be able to find ROM's of such high quality that you will find here, however.
yeah that's what i figured, i just love having a phone with a keyboard. Is there anything else like the G1 that can still be rom'd
for t-mobile? No. The G1 and MyTouch are the only HTC devices for t-mobile with Android.
Hey.. I've been waiting out upgrading my phone till I saw something that suits me. The N1 is the first android phone that is tempting me to upgrade from the g1 but, my only concern is the keyboard. the onscreen keyboard on the g1 is completely useless... I have no idea how you people on the mytouch / hero get by without a qwerty. So my question is to all you guys who upgraded from the g1... How is the typing on the N1? does the huge screen help? Or is it still a pain in the ass?
thanks in advance!!!
It's still not as good as a hardware keyboard for me, but it's significantly better than the G1's onscreen keyboard. I'm not really missing the hardware one except when writing really long emails.

Hello there, Ive got a bit of a debate on my hands here.
Right now I currently have the HTC HD2 and its a love hate relationship. out of the box wm6.5 SUCKS!... just kidding its not so bad honestly i can make do with it, however some things just annoy the piss out of me. So I flashed a HSPL and flashed a radio, and was running FroyoSence3.3 by darkstone. Some things Improved for me, far as.. sms messaging was 100% better on the sence build, much more user friendly to interact with, the keyboard is perfect for the way i text and type on a phone, the larger more evenly spaced keyboard when turned sideways allows me to type just about as fast as i do on my pc's keyboard with just 2 thumbs!! I honestly like that.. but the lack of functioning MMS, Ive tried radios, APN's, RMNET, PPP, Proxy's. simply put i give up, I am absolutely in love with the way the multi touch works on the HD2, I'm also in love and don't want to give up sence, or the screen or the memory or the bloody brilliantly designed phone hardware. however the os is simply holding me back on the keyboard, i want the android on or the exact same layout from android ported to wm.. however I'm finding out right now android builds haven't fixed everything stable as of yet. and be that I work in the computer field i get the feel for how tech rolls, and normally its not stable by now, and its been a few months in a year android on the htc proly wont have much development going at all, due to the new android and the new phones coming out so quickly.. this leaves me wondering since i'm still whiten my 30 days buyers remorse here in California, if i shouldn't send the hd2 back and purchase one of these other phones, and if so which is the best phone for tmobile? or if there is a way to get wm keyboard more like android, and also get my radio flashed back on the hd2 to normal where i had signal and not dropping everything all the flipping time lol basically i'm just looking for some advice, id be putting in some more money for one of those other phones bout 50.00 more. is it worth it should i do this and if so what should i get.. if not how can i fix mine.. all input welcome and thanks
If you want a true Android experience, go with a true Android phone. While I'm enjoying Android running on my HD2, there's still too many kinks that need to be worked out. Don't get me wrong, the devs have done an excellent job, but in the end Android on an Android phone will always be more stable unless they get Nand working properly.
As far as which phone, it depends on your taste. I'm actually getting the G2 and my wife the MyTouch 4G.

I want to change my phone to something similar to the G1. Someone knows if there is a phone with the same design but updated hardware (dual core)
Thanks
I wish! There really isnt, ive read about people who have attempted to change out the logic board but ive never heard of any success. Really your best option would be to go out and find som hardware keyboard android phones with more power as many of us former dream users have done.
You can run a search in gsmarena to help you out but you will be limited on options, maybe 10 that are a reasonable upgrade but only a handfull that are actually worth it.

Isn't the MyTouch 4G Slide like that? It even has a trackball type thing.
