Hi everyone,
I have having a terrible battery performance for my mini. It seems that just after 2 hours, the battery level drops from 100% to about 80% . Any idea why? :?
Does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks!
Try to look in Start/Settings/System/Memory ---running programs...you may have some programs running and consuming battery. If U have Pocket hack master it drawn the battery very fast if overclocked and installed!

Primoz
Hi Primoz
Thanks for the info. But on my previous device XDA IIs, even with the applications running, the battery life was still ok.
Sigh... perhaps my batt is a lemon... so far it has only lasted 1 day with a full charge!!!
Hmmm...strange, if the I-mate is new try to replace the battery...cause for me the battery life is about 2 days...in average. If not used much 3-4 days.
Regards,
Primoz
Hmm, perhaps an investigation is in order :?: :
Did you leave your beam receive on?
Are you using bluetooth?
What programs are running, especially today screen plugins?
Hi,
nope, bluetooth is off, IR is off however, I left the SD Card in the slot all the time.
I have also made sure there are no today screen plugins and also programs running in the background.
I just checked.... 1 hour, the battery level drops by 6 %
This is terrible. I am using XDA II mini... don't seem to see this problem with i-Mates and others though...
anyone with XDA II mini care to comment?
Perhaps it's because your battery is still new. On average, batteries have full capacity and stamina after 10-20 cycles of full charge-full discharge.
Make sure:
Backlight is on low setting.
Bluetooth is off.
Infrared is off.
Power off after x minutes.
Backlight off after x minutes.
I have only had my XDA Mini for 8 days now and my battery life is much better than that.
The phone and PIM gets a good going over during a business day and then a couple hours of WiFi in the evening when i get home and i have never had the battery drop below 30%.
My XDA II used to be flat by the end of the day.
The difference is now that i charge the unit for 7 hours during the evenings as opposed to the XDA II sitting in the craddle during the day.
I have finally given up on charging and recharging the battery. I just sent my mini for servicing yesterday. Apparently, the service folks also think that the poor performance of the batt is due to a faulty power regulator.
Anyways, I was quite disappointed that I got a lemon. They promised me my device back by Friday or Sat.
Will update again on the batt performance once I get it back.... :?
Hello!
I have the same problem and if you know where the problem came from i would be very interesting , to know if i have to send it to repair too or if there is another solution!
Thanks
how do you turn IR off?
To turn of IR....
Start>Settings>Connections>Beam
Uncheck the box which says receive all incoming beams.

I just got back my set from the O2 repair center in Singapore. The service tech said that there wasn't any problem and the battery drain is at an ACCEPTABLE rate!
I am still getting the poor battery performance. I can only last 10 hrs max without USING my PDA. I did not even use the PDA function extensively ( at most 20 mins) and did not even use the phone.... yes, all the applications were stopped and even disabled the IR.
I escalated this issue to O2 and they told me that they will check with the tech about the set....
This is terrible!!!! :x .....
Anyone else with this problem? I suspect that this is an hardware / battery issue.
Sigh... hope that O2 can do something about!
to mod: sorry about making noise about this.... but I had to let it out of my chest!
Anyone else with this issue....???

Maybe try the backup and hardreset route? Must be something in your settings that's draining the battery.
If I can tell my experience...I never mind if battery is full of charge or it is down...'couse whenever I can, I always connect my S100 to USB for recharging...
Uhm...Do I wrong?
I guess for my type of usage, it is unacceptable to always plug it into the charger.
This is because I am on the move most of the time and once I leave my office in the morning, I would not return home till sometime at night. Need the set to last at least 24 hours!
Sigh... anyone has ideas for a workaround?
I've been looking for an additional battery... where to get one?
Is this particular to O2 sets? Cos I have not been seeing compliants with other vendors iMate, T-Mobile etc..
I have the same problem and have try all software solution(differents roms)!!I will send it to repair and hope i will be more lucky than you.
Wish you all the best too! If you do get it fixed, please let me know so that I can do something about it rather than having to deal with O2!
I am getting quite impatient with them for giving me the runaround!
Hello,
I need your help with the following problem:
I have been using my Jasjar for 5 days now and I have a problem with the battery.
As soon as it gets to 35-40% battery power the unit switches off without any notice.
The only way I can turn it on again if I put it on a charger, and than it turns on again like after a soft reset.
I installed the latest ROM from the clubimate but none 3rd party applications.
Please let me know what can be this problem.
Thanks,
Zsolt
same problem here
Hi Ronaldovic,
Have you tried with another battery or just the original?
I was advised to change the original battery as that might be faulty but I couldn't get a new one yet.
Zsolt
For the O2 XDA Exec the battery has a 6 month warranty. You should check the situation with the JJ
battery issues..
I had similar issue and also where on switch on the screen light goes off and back on. This seems to be linked to battery chargin "top-ups" therefore sometimes the supply from the battery is not continously smooth. Try fully draining your battery and charging fully
I have same problem with my Exec. Any solution ??
I buy new battery but...when it gets to 25%, still switch off. So I dont think it's error of battery, may be it's bug of ROM for Exec???

1 month ago I have same problem. I think is not battery.
I make upgrade by all the ROM (JAS JAR, QTEQ, MDA PRO ecc.) but the problem I have not resolution, and 2 week ago my pda (MDA PRO T-Mobile) go in htc warranty.
Sorry for my bad english.
I have also noticed this problem a few days back. My Jasjar switches itself Off when the battery goes down to 22%.
I never used to have this problem when my Jasjar was with the original factory installed ROM version which was 1.13.53 WWE, Radio 1.03, ExtRom 1.13.137 WWE. When this ROM was installed I used to get the first low battery alarm at 20% and when the battery went down to 10% the screen would dim out and the SD card would deactivate, but still the unit would not shut itself out.
I installed the updated ROM when it became available in March which is 1.30.76, Radio 1.09.00 and ExtRom 1.30.164 WWE.
I am not too sure if the problem is linked with this ROM as I usually never allow my battery to run that low. However a few days back when I forgot to charge my battery I noticed this problem. I repeated this deliberately a number of times and each time the Jasjar shuts itself off exactly at 22%.
Just wondering if there are any solutions yet.
Regards
Same here, device just dies @ 26%. Was going to buy a new battery, but that might not resolve it?? *sigh*
RE
This battery issue has been discussed in two other similar threads.
In my case I just changed the default battery to a OEM one and everything works fine
Isn't the default battery an OEM battery? I'm tempted to buy one of the 1750 mAh batteries off of ebay (original JasJar battery is 1650 mAh) - is that a bad idea?
Try overnight charging of the battery for one or two days..this will solve yr problems...
Hi,
hard reset to your device, don't forget to get backup contacts, sms and data.
battery issue
I've had similar issues. Screen goes blank when battery low, plug in to charger and all is ok. What I've found is sometimes, not always, the battery screen brightness has gone to 0, but on-mains is set for full brightness. I never changed it, so maybe the device is trying to save power itself.
MNB.
Same here. My Jasjar dies sometimes when the battery is on 60%, 50%, 30%, 20%. etc. If I use the internet or camera or something then it will go dead, but not everytime.
Sometimes I can use anything and it will last till about 10% when the SD Card disables, then I charge it.
Don't know what to do. I don't want to buy a new battery if I'm not sure that is the problem.
Yes the same on my O2 Exec. Crashes at around 32% no matter what. Only remedy is to put it on charging again.
This started after I upgraded to the lastest O2 Rom; prior to that there was no problem whatsoever and I could go down to single digit battery percentages without any issue.
Is it the new ROM? Is there any work around to this malady?
Thanks to all who reply, in advance.
Cheers.

So can we say that downgrading does not fix it, or removing certain software combinations?
has anyone actually proved that replacing the battery works or not?
With the issue this widespread (and across carriers) has anyone tried to contact HTC about this? I still have my doubts that this is ROM related, seems more likely to me that many of the initial batch of batteries have gone bad.
My battery is on order with expansy. Expect it in the next 4 to 5 days and will definitely let you all know of my experience with the new battery

The Wizard does not have a backup battery like other PDA's. It has a persistant memory model like a PC. I have never had to remove the battery so I guess the clock would reset.
Whether the Wizard has a battery or not there is definitely a design flaw. It always used to remember the time and date settings when removing the main battery buy after about 6 months it no longer does. this has happen on both our Wizards and many others. It's very annoying when you change sims and then have to reset the time and date.
So far nobody has been able to explain why this is happening. There are thoughts that it may be the new roms which have changed something in the power management.
Kiru, you say you have the service manual and have found / identified the backup battery? That would very interesting if there is one.
I remove my battery to move my sim to other phones quite regularly, and my clock/date settings always remain intact on my mini-s. If I look at battery stats on my SPB pocket plus, it shows 2 batterys. Main batt and backup batt. I always assumed the device had a backup battery to store date/time settings.....

He's talking about the small backup battery inside the device. If your sure Wizard has a backup battey, then yes its removable.
The type of battery, and volt is labeled on either side of the battery.
Just my $.02...
If this problem is less than a year old try warranty repair options?
Also, you can set the phone to update its time and date from the cell tower. I've never set the clock on my device it just nabs that information from the cell tower. Should happen as soon as you get a signal instantly...
The setting for it is under Phone -> Time Zones
Hope those help...
As i'm sure the backup battery is only used for the RTC (Real Time Clock) since the device is now persistent storage...

When i switched my mainboard my back up battery was dead, but after a couple days its back to normal, so i guess just keep charging your device and the back up battery will work again.
as for replacing it, it's soldered on so you'll have to unsolder it to replace it.
At page 37 of the service manual you can see about a "Golden Cap". It is not a battery, it is an high capacity capacitor. It works like a battery but has never to be replaced because it (should be) is charged by internal circuitry from main battery.

okay I managed to get my internal battery working once again!!!.....I think is drained due to the fact that I don't charge my batteries with my phone, but use a desktop charger. I then plugged my phone into the charger for about 24 hours, and finally, the back battery is charging (as to what pocket breeze says) It still isn't 100% charged, but it seems to be holding the time and date again!!!... just fyi I have 3 batteries for my wizard and never charge them using the phone....so that could have been my problem.

Last week my battery was totally empty so I had to charge it using my 220V charger.. At that time I also found out that my internal battery is empty when I exchange SIM cards. Last Sunday I charged my SPV M3000 for like15-20 hours but I still have the same problem...
What more can I do to make it work again?
I have same problem with my O2 Mini S. I charged it with the wall charger for around 18 hours although it took just 2 hours to get the the main battery fully charged. The date/time still reset when I plugged it out and removed the main battery.
Anybody kindly help please. Thanks so much in advance.
too bad my problem came back again....and I don't know why.....when I left my phone charging almost all day, my battery meter says my backup battery is 75% full.....then when i changed my battery.....all my clocks reset again...it's gets really annyoing especially if you change batteries alot. But does this only happen when people are using spare batteries?..and always swapping back and fourth?, I rarely use the phone to charge my battery as i have a desktop charger.

It seems that there really is a backup battery (capacitor) that can be damaged. I have read the Wizard service manual and this little component has to be replaced if this problem still occurs :-(....
both mine and my wife's wizards are only charged by the mains charger and they both loose the time and date settings when changing sims. This problem started about 6 months after having the phones so I think some component seems to fail after a while as there are many reports of this happening.
All I can say is that it's very annoying as I travel frequently and change sims often.
As for getting the time from the cell tower, this doesn't work for me for some reason.

Unfortunatly I have the same problem. When changing the sim and thus removing the battery I lose the time and date setting. I charge my phone by the mains charger or sometimes by an USB port.
Perhaps it has to do with the new ROM I use? I recently upgraded to the molski rom. Perfect ROM by the way.

I don't think it's the ROMs. I still use the original WWE I-Mate rom (2.16, the one and only update they did so far). It's possible that the ROM introduced the problem but then everyone using the ROM would have the problem which is not the case I believe.
Hi all:
i know i have been braging lately a lot on the forums about the battery issue after upgrade to wm6.
BUT- after actually surfing the net for like 2 weeks non stop, i found on several sites a solution which i think would end this "IF" someone has it.
Theoritical Explanation:
it's said that when upgrading to wm6 the battery has to be atleast 50% charged "this is wrong" .
battery has to be 100% charged because for example:
if your battery is say 60% and you upgraded to wm6, the new ROM will mark the 60% as your 100% battery hence why it drains so fast.
that's why you need to charge to 100% first before upgrade BUT the only way to make sure the battery is really at 100% is to remove it and charge it in the cradle separetly until the lid on cradle changes from amber to green.
after that put the battery in your BA and start the RE-upgrade if you are on wm6 already or Upgrade if you are on wm5 or wm2003SE.
you should notice the difference, i'm currently testing it for the 2nd time, to make sure it is the right solution.
P.S. am only a noob so excuse me for the unorganised post.
Pls someone test this aswell
Regards
The battery charge level has nothing to do with the OS, its part dependent.
If i get you right, what are you saying is "if the battery level is 60% on flashing, the new OS will take 60% as being the 100%(maximum) level of what the battery can go".
I think that's wrong.

yes, hence why the battery and BA gets to warm or hot while charging as it cannot exceed the 60% mark which is marked as 100%.
i think it's the only logical explanation
Any battery get warm or hot on charge (or one some type of charge, like car charge).
I may say b*** s***, but after upgrading to WM6, my battery is acting as in WM2003; some software (like HTC home) is draining more, but nothing isn't abnormal; i still get with a 2400 mA a normal day of BA use (PDA+phone).

Did you disables infrared on the new install? This might take some extra power.
nothing wrong with the OS , i believe it's a psycho matter maybe ??? my battery was 94% charged .. i took the device and went on a trip .. 4 hours with TCMP on listening to Mp3s .. i went back home after 5 hours it was 53%. Sounds good for me. 1450mAh and i charge it every 2 days with normal consumption. Maybe ur batteries are getting old because with No plugins installed it's just as good as WM2003SE.
Battery status - Its possible
ahassouna might be onto something. Logically I know this sounds unlikely. However I recall exactly the same point occuring in the smartphone forums when an OS upgrade came about. It was common knowledge that for the HTC smartphone you should have you battery fully charged when doing it. It was widely tested in the forums - www.modaco.com and generally accepted back then that for best perfromance your battery should be 100% when upgrading. BTW - in my opinion this is the best ROM ever released for BA - big thanks and respect to Helmi!
if it's so you never come back after upgrading with non fully charged battery.
I think that's wrong.
Emm let's say u were right, so i assume that the OS wont determine the correct battery level. So logically, when u get a 0% , the battery is shown as empty while it is not. So if u think a bit , when the OS indicates that the battery is empty, it shouldnt turn itself off because in fact IT IS NOT. So if you get ur device to turn itself off without being able to power on again , that means that the OS was right and it was 0% for real. ( Correct me if i'm wrong )
as the Matter of fact, wm6 is slightly 'heavier' than wm2003, it contains more drivers and stuffs. so it will consume lot More resource than wm2003. I think battery draining also closely related to the read/writing speed of your sdcard, how big the capacity...
My SX66 drains equally under all three OS's, Though I must admit I quickly upgraded from WM2003SE to WM2005. Ran WM2005 for almost a full year, good battery drain, WM2006 seems to drain the same thus far
I would have a look at your battery, there cheap to replace on ebay and such.
Slide2Unlock
Do you use Slide2Unlock? I confirmed that the software was draining battery faster especially ver 1.216. I uninstalled it and my battery back to normal.
I hope it helps.
I don't believe that would cause any problems...the OS is independent of the battery. Anyway, my battery use is only slightly higher in WM6 than WM5.
Your battery can be at any level when you upgrade the ROM...I really cannot see how the OS would "read" the status of the battery and set that as the 100% level.
Try running your battery down to something below 50%, then reflash your ROM...now what does the battery meter show? I bet it shows the same as before you flashed it, below 50%.

Yes. In fact every battery has a internal chip for charge controll and status level. OS reads the status of the battery by this chip.

no i don't use it, i finished flashing for the 3rd time with a "3rd battery" Still same problem BUT draiing is less than before but still 1-2 hours max without any calls and drops to zero.
am begining to think my BA went razy for some reason.
P.S. i have no apps or anything installed other than flashing the ROM.
My BA drains normally. I have 2-4 days of standby with occasional calls and usage. The backlight auto-closes in 30 seconds, the power goes off in 1 minute.

Exactly...so the first post is wrong...the OS reads the status of the battery and it doesn't matter what charge status the battery is at when you reflash...the battery status circuit will show the proper charge percentage...

The power drain maybe is cuz your phone is heating.. The heat expands circuits and increase the power drain.

I'm completely like the phone but i have a weird problem with it
while i use it i notice the battery produces too much heat that i can notice
the battery can be drained very easily with any action
I just turn off my phone it was 21% charge i noticed the heating issue
and i turned it on again and the battery was 14%

Not normal if the phone is on stand by mode (And I believe that`s what he`s saying ) !!!
I just installed Copilot
the battery was 14%
after the installation ended and the phone restarted
it got about 4%
Also i used the MP3 player for around and hour the battery dropped about 20%
how's that?
or should i take it back? I'm still having the phone warranty

About using the MP3 player for 1 hour and drop 20%, its normal.
But, 14% then sunddely goes to 4% ? Thats not freaking normal...
Just take it back to warranty ok!

I wouldn't rush to send it back. It all sounds normal to me.
You must remember that the batteries will take a few weeks to attain full capacity operation.
Keep them on charge as much as you can (mains or car/plane etc), don't switch off at night, don't cycle them and don't drain them excessively.
If that does not give an improvement THEN take them back.
When I first got my TD2 I was appalled at the battery life and bought a spare battery. I have never used it.
And when they get warm it shows that they are happily being used or recharged and is no cause for concern.
Hi Cairo,
First of all, sorry for my english.
In my case, I bought my TD2 this summer, & I had some of these problems with the battery.
I'll tell you my steps, perhaps it could help you, if not, you must talk with HTC support.
First, use modaco's nodata to disable HSDPA/3G, use only GSM, it's much better to save battery. the link :http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/
Second: Active Sync.
You need a task manager to see notifications.
you must find one of the repllog event.
Use this http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm.
In notifications tab find "repllog AppRunAfterTimeChange" and disable it.
In my case I have disabled two events more, PushInternetScheduleTimeChanged and PushInternetScheduleTimeChanged1 and everything works fine.
After that, in process tab, if repllog appears, kill it, and in notifications tab find again the event "repllog.exe /remote /h",disable too, and use a reg editor (dot's taskmgr has one) and search in hkcu\software\microsoft\ActiveSync, find "KeepAlive" and you must change 1 to 0.
In this case, activesync will never start again, till you connect td2 to laptop or pc with activesync (it changes the value from 0 to 1).
I hope you could understand me and the info is ok for your td2.
Regards
