Looks like it wont matter if your Orange or T-Mobile for the Hero as now they are the same company!
Just as long as I don't get onto a plan called Monkey, Baboon, Whale Shark, or any other animal, I don't mind!

I would go for Gorilla!
as long I get my 3gb of data I'll be happy not some bs 500mb
True - if they tried to cut my data allowance down to the derisory orange 500mb, I'd be walking away from my contract.
Regards,
Dave
T-Mobile.NL already BOUGHT (not merged) with Orange.NL in 2008.
The technical process is not finished yet (mostly on the prepaid area),
According to the BBC:
Both brands will remain separate for the first 18 months after the deal is completed while branding is reviewed.

Given that this is being pitched very much as a merger, rather than a takeover or outright purchase, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a new brand coming out of this network.

same here.
Haha just left orange for T-mo because i didn't want to pay any excess on the hero, didn't want a muggish 24month contract either. Find this rather ironic really. At least orange haven't lost my custom fully. Found this on The Guardian's site if anyone want's a little more info on whats going on http://m.guardian.co.uk/?id=102202&...co.uk/money/2009/sep/08/tmobile-orange-merger
I'm with orange, and I hope this merger between both businesses means better customer services, better price plans, better coverage and most importantly better data packages; not some crappy 500MB limit I'm on now.
Although; a merger like this could be potentially bad as it would limit competition and in return be bad for us consumers, we'l just have to wait and see what happens.

250m for £6 and a free phone. Or £500 for the phone, another mobile provider and cheaper data.
No i'm not too worried plus i have heard that there might be a better data option in the wings. Also i have the 250 bundle and never get near it.

What are you suggesting ?
Forgive me, I had heard that the 250mb data allowance only came into play if you signed up for a 24month contact (which seemed completely bonkers compared to other providers).
I'm personally tempted by expansys' offer of the 12month T-Mob contract @ £35p/m inc 1GB w&w, for £170ish... but now I'm not so sure. If I can get a similar contract with Orange, I'd happily go with them.
On mobiles.co.uk they have 1200 mins unlim txts on O2 for £32.50 after cashback for 18 months.
If you go through quidco.co.uk you can get £40 extra cashback too, and the Touch HD handset is free.
I believe with O2 you can have the unlimited web bolt on for free, or you might need to swap the unlim' txts for unlim' web.
Anyone have experience of O2 data usage policy?

stuff like bbc iplayer. if you were on the train, stuff like that would be a great thing to have on your phone but it'll rip through your 250meg in no time on a 3G/HSDPA.

Not quite sure how you got that on the 02 1200 package (or more likely my basic maths is failing me).
I thought it was £38.88 (£45p/m * 18mnts - £110cashback / 18month)
even with Quidco it only brings it down to £36.66 a month.
Plus with the absence of any definite literature confirming that you can swap your unlimited bolt-on, seems a bit of risk considering the price and length of the contract.

After spending 2 days solid on trains trying to use my TytnII for internet using GPRS (on T-Mobile), I'd suggest people think twice before buying a data package for this purpose. I was barely able to hold connections for more than a few minutes making browsing completely unusable - let alone using HSDPA for streaming (which isn't allowed under 02, Orange & T-Mobile's basic data tarrifs anyway).
That said, I haven't looked into using iPlayer to cache your TV content to take with you.... Is this possible?

Hello..Long time reader..1st post n all
Just spoke to 'Lindsey' at Orange who did not know what the Touch HD was. She kept on yapping about the Diamond.
She went and spoke to her manager who insisted there were no new HTC phones scheduled to be released this month:|

'friad i dont have one. i've been with orange for quite a few years now and i've always managed to wangle something more from them each year. this year i am supposed to get a free handset (whichever one i choose). i am suspecting when the HD is available the droid at the end of the phone will want to charge me because he wont know i've been told this. so i'll have to kick up a fuss.
hi,
thanks to the massive incompetence of vodafone, i'm going to have to send my xperia and the other one that they've mistakenly sent me back in order to port my number over.
has anyone seen any good deals on the xperia in the uk ? i'd prefer vodafone as, despite their incompetence, i find the 3g coverage to be pretty good where i live ...
any suggestions ?
Lol
I had the same issue with them - bl00dy numpties with their 'at order time only' number porting system!! Every other provider will allow you to port in after receiving the phone!
I ended up buying sim-free. The only decent contract deals involved 18mnths-2yrs with voda which given their numpty-ness over the porting issue I did not fancy!
Play.com have xperia's for £479, voda do a basic contract (75 mins/500texts) for £10/mnth and their not-unlimited 500MB/mnth internet for £7.50 on top of that.
Works out OK for me cause I don't talk on my phones!
There's been a huge thread on Voda's eForum about the 'Unlimited Internet' which is actually limited to 500MB/mnth - how ofcom have let them get away with this is anyone's guess - the use of the term 'unlimited' should be banned unless what is being offered is indeed unlimited.

couldn't agree more !
So here's the deal...
I've been with T-Mobile from the beginning - from waaaaay back when they were Mercury 121.
If I was to ring up T-Mobile as a new customer, I can get the phone for free, on the same tariff that I have now.
However, as an existing customer, if I want to upgrade to a HD2 I have to pay £140!
I think I'm gonna give OFCOM a call...
Yeah... I've had this in the past too. When I checked via the web for an upgrade to the Diamond from a Vario II, they quoted about £190. A new customer would have paid about £40. I thought it was a mistake, so went into my local T-nob-ile shop, and the girl said "Nope, can't do it any cheaper than £190". She made several phone calls to people, the manager came down, but nope, no can do. I said "OK, cancel the contract and I'll take out a new one please".... and then she says "But you do realise you will lose your number Sir?" I just replyed with "I'll group text all my contacts my new number. And I can remember an 11 digit number thank you."
It is a shambles of a system - I'll go in with a print out from Mobiles Direct too this time.
And I will kick arse....
Could you not just order a new phone as a new customer, whilst letting you existing contract continue, then get a PAC code from you old contract and move it to your new one? Yu would only have a few days of overlap...?

Most of the networks will tell you that you can't go from contract to contract on the same network and keep the number. This is an absolute lie, and you could go down a lengthy legal process to prove it, but it's not worth it over a phone number.
The best way to do it is to get a PAYG SIM, transfer your existing number to that, and then get a new contract (as a new customer) and transfer the number from the PAYG SIM to the new contract.
It's a pain in the arse. It's yet ANOTHER way that the telecomms companies try to rape you into submission.
Rant over. That advice still stands though
I'm with T-mobile using Solo (£20pcm) and thought I could just cancel and get a HD.
I got my PAC as I wanted to keep my number and then I got a call and was told however that I would need to upgrade or give them the 30days notice and then come in as a new customer.
they then offered me a deal rather than waiting the 30 days cancelling and coming back.
I could Upgrade effective immediately with the phone for free on a deal 18 month contract with the normal rates as per site. (now paying £40pcm flext = £225pcm spend limit and free internet)
so its true you can get upgrade phone for free. even if you were paying as little as £20pcm
Well I've just checked online for my upgrade as I am now in my final month, and it dosen't give me the option to upgrade to the HD2 - the Compact 5 (Touch Diamond 2) is as far as I can go - and that's if I pay £214.26!!!
Time to ring and cancel I think.
Tw*ts.
As a T-mobile (UK) customer my self with HD2 on that contract what you have to do is tell them what they already know they have to match the contracts for new and exsisting users this is how i got mine when they were not even out on t-mob. This works and they know it just want to try get the £140 out of you if they can hope this helps
The HD2 has just shown up in my online upgrade.... it's mine for £340!!!!
LOL! LOL! PMSL!! Christ, I'd hate to work for Tmobile right now, 'cos someone is gonna get a bashing!
Sorry to dig this thread back up, but after ringing them and asking for my PAC (code), and saying £340 was just plain silly, thye did offer me the phone on the Combi20 with internet (total £25) for £130. I said I can go to mobilephonesdirect and have the phone on this contract for £93. I was put on hold for 5 minutes and they said they could do it for £100. So I accepted. Should be here before 1pm tomorrow.
Only downside is it's likely to be looked to a T-Mobile ROM - unless you're lucky to get an unbranded one...

You're likely to loose your warranty then. I just moved from 3 to Virgin after they gave me some crap upgrade deals. You can port your number no problem and its unlocked and unbranded so i'm quite happy. Plus Virgin uses t-mob's network so you'd get the same coverage.

iv never payed for a mobile phone and i never will. vodafone have tried it on a few times but after asking for my pac code they always gave in. iv now moved onto o2 as voda dont do 3g in my area (and their customer services is pathetic) and got my hd2 online for £30 a month, £7.50 internet bolt on and the handset for free.mind you, its a 2 year contract but i can live with that. it would break my heart to pay for a mobile.........
T-Mobile wouldn't move till I asked for my PAC
I got the HD2 for free with 600mins, unlimited net, lots of texts, for
£35 on 18 months on T-Mobile
I've had it for a month.

I've tested this and I think Virgin only get limited bandwidth from T-mobile. Side-by-side tests using a HD2 with a Virgin sim, and a HD2 with a T-mobile sim showed Virgin to have less than a quarter of the download speed of T-mobile. Having said that, for every-day browsing from the mobile, the speed on Virgin is fine. But if you fancy high speed downloads, or streaming high quality video, than I don't think Virgin will perform as well as T-mobile per se or O2.
I was paying £40 pcm with three and expected a mammoth upgrade deal and got not even as much as a pound off the current advertised deals they have. One or two deals they offered were actually more. Anger isn't even the word... I wanted to kill someone! They had the cheek to tell me that with the new deal I would be making a huge saving on my old plan and that was the saving.

Well it says "a few weeks"
iPhone next week, N1 2/3 weeks later? Possible.
A "few" will be more like 6 - 7 - 8... Knowing how operators think
actually - considering the guy in the Voda shop told me the nokia n900 is out in Jan for Voda - wonder how that will all pan out.
moto Milestone still has to hit an operator too - surely all the 'super' phones won't come out in jan/feb?
Most ppl don't spend in Jan after the xmas and the jan sales added up ...

Vodafone aren't really a ripoff, they're possibly the best uk network in terms of connectivity aswell. Although sometimes their deals aren't as good as other networks.
You might be happy with paying £400+ but I know some people (myself included) would be considering it but won't really be able to afford it so getting it presumably for free on a £35 a month contract would be awesome.

Does anyone know how much it would cost though? im assuming we wouldnt be able to buy the phone on its own, and definitely wouldnt be available simfree in the uk if voda is the exclusive carrier, so is it worth it just buying it from google now and then using whichever network we got?
im sure the phone would probably cost more than £400 payg anyway if it was available? im trying to decide whether to buy it now or wait till it comes here? im on vodafone so i dont mind waiting, but i dont think i would be able to get a good deal so a little help/speculation would be cool. thanks

Incidentally the HTC HD2 on there has just been lowered to £425 according to a banner ad that just whizzed by.

Both cheaper than you'd find on Ebay ironically ...

I mean officially, without ebay
I have the HD2 on Tmobile in the US and have been using it, unlocked, with the web2go, Tzones, $9.99 plan for about a year and before that had a Kaiser for 2 years doing the same.
This morning my browser started automatically redirecting to a page telling me my plan is not compatible with my phone and demanding that I upgrade my plan.....
So much for having 2 lines, 700 minutes, unlimited data for $72.00 a month.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Same here at about 0800 hours, central time, i got the same message on the screen about my plan is not compatible with the phone, it keeps re-directing to that web2go page. :-( :-( :-( I have HD2 Tmo-us.
same here, cc told me that their servers killed the service for smart phones. they gave me a reduced internet package for $20 instead.
I'm going to wait a day or two and see if things come back, but if not, what did you have to ask for to get the $20 internet package?
Free lunch is over! Likely nothing you can do about this either, since it is likely detecting based off the IMEI of the phone, not only is there no known way to change the IMEI on the HD2, to do so would be illegal.

The current $20 internet package offer is for "loyal" TMO customers. I am not sure how far you have to be into your contract to be considered a "loyal" customer, you may even have to have completed your contract and be out of contract. You likely also have to have had on time payments for a certain period of time if not for the entire duration of your contract.
Your best bet would be to call in and ask a CSR about the customer loyalty internet package, and if they claim to know nothing about it then ask to speak to retentions
I fit all of the conditions.
Thanks for the tips.
I thought it was just me. Well, no reason to stick around with tmobile anymore
I've got the same problem.
I'm usually quick to scream bloody murder and leave a company but this is different. We were taking advantage of a loop-hole that Tmobile was kind enough to be slow to fix. Even at $20 a month it's still cheaper than anything on Verizon or AT&T and doesn't require a new contract, I assume and hope (can anyone confirm that?)
I'm sticking with TMobile for now. Besides, I don't want to buy a new phone.
yup it's over...
yup it's over...
however, it doesn't seem to only be affecting branded "smart" tmous devices.....
supposedly iphones, and n1s have had their tzones cut...
*it shows my msisdn in the url upgrade page* so perhaps it is just line based....
I might as well switch because i get crappy reception with tmous at my school... however their 3g speeds seem to be the fastest....no iphone users bogging down the 3g network lol...
but still, 20 dollar for unlimited data doesn't sound too bad....
as for cdma networks.....questionable...

And what is switching going to get you? a data plan that at least costs $10 more than what TMO provides? usage caps, tethering restrictions and overage charges for data? and an overloaded network in the case of ATT or in the case of Sprint/VZ a network that cant provide simultaneous voice/data?

Go to AT&T and pay for a capped data plan.
Or go to Sprint/Verizon and pay for a new CDMA phone
Sorry to say it...but about time. You guys have been mooching off of this for years, and T-Mobile finally cut you off. Seriously, you guys really have no room to complain that you now have to pay...GASP...13 DOLLARS MORE A MONTH!!! Think about it, you have been screwing T-Mobile for years, so you have saved enough to pay that extra money. And to the dude talking about leaving T-Mo...uhm...lol que? Like the others have said, feel free to go to another carrier with data caps, more expensive unlimited plans or even non-existent unlimited plans. Listen people, 20USD a month for UNLIMITED 2G/3G/4G(ish) data+UNLIMITED un hinderded tethering=a really damn good deal.

I don't think that taking advantage of a known loop-hole should be considered "screwing" them. Think of it like taxes, it's your duty as a citizen of the US to take advantage of as many tax breaks as you can, legally. If you pay too much to the IRS, they aren't likely to tell you.
And I don't really think I, or the others adding value to the thread are complaining. I'm just trying to make sure I don't wind up paying for something I don't need.

Exactly.
Waah, you lost the $9.99 plan. Fine, leave T-Mobile. Have fun paying for tethering and dealing with data caps..
You guys who changed plans already should call back and get switched back. I still have my $5.99 T-Zones plan working fine with no browser redirects. It was some kind of maintenance snafu and all is normal now.
T-Mobile Web (Unlimited T-Zones) $5.99 Restoration
Confirmed to be working again on my HD2.
Yay for patience.
