Hi folks. I have damaged my topaz but I'm not sure if it's the digitiser or the lcd screen, so I'll describe what happens:
The touch screen will stop responding after I've been using it and if I turn off the screen I can see a small dark patch (where my finger last touched it) with some small tiny 'bumps' surrounding this dark area. If I gently rub the screen with a soft cloth or similar, this dark area disappears and the touch screen starts responding again. However, I am having to do this procedure a lot - I mean like every 10 or 20 seconds if I'm touching the screen a lot or dragging stuff around - heck, it's a 'touch' phone, I can't help but touch it !!!
A new screen is a lot more than a new digitiser, and I figured that since the digitiser sits on top (right ) then it may be this that is u/s ?
Any help, comments or diagnostic clues are much appreciated.
Cheers, peace
Chris
umm, can it be water between the screen and touch sensor layer? Have you brought the phone to highly humid places, or something like that?
Some photos will definitely help identifying the problem.
Sounds like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=522813
I had it, and my provider repaired it. Unfortunaly I have the problems again... but not that much. When its getting too extreme, I'll send it back once again
^ I'd say that's it, I did find another post with a photo of something similar too.
I think mine happened when my wee girl got a hold of the phone -
I'm still a little unsure as to what component is damaged tho. Maybe a little 'investigation' with a screwdriver is needed ...
Thanks for the replies so far
Peace
Using a screewdriver will defenetly kill your guarantee. Mine was repaired for 0€$ ... I would try this first, as you can still offer it back when they say u have to pay few 100€$.

Hi,
try to clean board with isopropyl alcohol or in ultrasonic cleaner. Maybe it can help you.

Is it really dry? It can take some time...

Replace the battery
I had the same problem after my mda ii went through the washing machine. Replacing the battery fixed the problem.
thanks guys for the replies , further my XDA had been properly dried and cleaned but now the problem is that the machine doesnt operate further than the "ALIGN SCREEN" setup where one has to tap the screen at four corners and the center one I tap the screen i return to the same screen as ask to tap the screen again.
Will flashing the rom serve any purpose or is it aa hardware problem, rest of the device seem to be ok even the bluetooth light flashes when i turn the XDA ok. But not able to get i any further from there.
So what do the experts have to say, Please reply.
thanks again
well, mine had very hot coffee poured all over it.
my suggestion to you would be, dont turn it on or place the battery for at least 3 days if under normal drying conditions only.
or if you know how to take it apart, spray everything with contact cleaner, it will dry up immediately,
then cross your fingers and hope nothing shorted out when it first went inot the water.
strategy is - wait - dry- wait - test - dry some more - spray contact cleaner - dry - test - until such time it works. coz some moisture might still be present and causing a little bit of short circuit.
It sounds more of a hardware issue than a software issue and you may have to take is apart to fix it.
Try two things, Number 1: (You need to use some latex or vinyl gloves if you need to take your unit apart). You are going to need to check your digitizer connection to the motherbaord, make sure you don't have any mosture trapped in the ribbon lock and make sure the entire front part of the digitizer is flush against the inside case edge. Number 2: Have you seperated the digitizer from the LCD yet? If this thing was in water the slightest spot of moisture will disrupt the very small electrical field between the digitizer and the LCD that recognizes the stylus taps. Abosolutly nothing should be present between the two and also around the white or grey strip on the inside of the digitizer for it is also a contact strip. You can use a lens cleaning cloth to clean any dust and moisture from the inside of the digitizer before you put it back together with the LCD. Being I worked on about 150 toshiba e750's that suffered sprinker damage in a fire, I learned quite bit on what makes a Pocket PC tick. Good luck with getting it working.
the same
I had the same problem 3 or 4 years ago with a HP Jornada 680 (handledPC). I must unfortunately say that I could never get my touchscreen working back again. Perhaps if you could change your screen for a new one, or at least one that always worked (some are sold around the www, even a few by members here if i remember).
Good luck
Shane
the stylus is working as the sceen responds to the tabs, but the process of calibarating the screen doesnt finish and keeps on repeating. and it asks to align the screen again.
The digitiser is working but the software doesnt seem to be working...
what do you have to say?
and thanks for the reply
guys thanks for the reply
but no luck... is there any sofware that can check if the components are working and ok, or simply what should i do. The info about the problem in a nut shell is
First the loading happpens with the O2 screen then the "Windows mobile screen says Tap the screen to setup the pocket pc" Then when i tap the screen next screen comes saying "ALIGN SCREEN" with a crosshair in the middle of the screen when i tap it with the stylus it moves till all four corners are tapped which crosshair point to. But now the problem begins.
The same screen repeats and asks for the same procedure again and again and again And the Xda processing doesnt move further.
i even flashed the ROM but same thing........
no luck
HELLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPP!!!!!!
REPLACE THE BATTERY
Have you bought a new battery yet?
Like I said above, my MDAII went through the wash. Just like you, i got the align screen process followed by a spontaneous hard reset. I bought a new battery, charged it up in the cradle overnight, then popped it into my machine. Good as new.
Don't mess with the software until you try a brand new battery.
Cheap and effective.
Hmm, the touch screen is responding to taps, but maybe its a bit 'offset'.. I mean maybe when you tap exactly center, it will receive your tap to be a lot more offset to right, left, up or, down.. Cos that's what making the 'align screen' asks you to realign again and again..
Hi Tanvir,
I want some of the others to advise on what I am suggeting. On my xda I ( which I own as well as a Blue Angel) we are able to put it into boot mode and press the "action" or was it the "contact" button to get it into test mode. Being I don't own a Himalaya but I would guess that they would have that function too, and in that function it has a test for the aligment screen which it might be able to align in the test mode away from the OS running. If someone has the tip for helping Tanvir of getting his unit in to test mode, Please someone post it for him. Also being I don't own the XDA 2 if anyone has anything to add on my suggestions, the floor is open. let me know how it's going Tanvir. Cheers.
Shane
I'm sure Tanvir's digitizer is no more...
Go to www.ppctechs.com and purchase a new one... not that expensive!
Good luck!

Hi, ive experienced two issues with my Touch HD, one of them is that the phone calls get disconnected at a random time. I can talk for 5 minutes and suddenly the phone shuts down the call... And the other issue is with the screen, wich is demonstrated on the attached picture. It comes and goes, so its not persistant but it looks really bad on the screen when its there. The attached picture is coming from a Diamond, and it looks exactly like the problem I have on my Touch HD.
Can anyone confirm this and perhaps come up with a solution?
Thanks
Hello
If you have the protection foil adhesed to your screen it could definitely be that...
Consider that your device heats up when charging or while you do lot of stuff with it - hardware heats up and the glue or whatever it is comes off so your foil does the same
My friend had the foil on but got really fed with it so he just took it off and no more stuff like that on your screen...
If you do not have this foil it is probably a HW issue with your screen thus you should get it replaced - whole device of course....
hope I helped...
about random dropping the calls there are several discusiions around. just use search option!
hint:
try to change settings-phone-band-network type from auto to just gsm
3g is known as often drop the quality and maybe your phone try to switch from 3g to gsm.
if this is not the situation, look around, maybe someone found the solution
about the rainbow stain, could it be just moisture caused by moving from cold temperature to warm temperature?
is it still there if your phone is out in cold air? did you noticed if the stain is always there or it occurs only when the phone became hot?
if this is the situation, you have to remove the shield from screen and install it (or a new one) again but on a dry screen.
if you don't have a screen protector, then your problem is more complicated as the moisture is between your screen layers and can be changed only at a htc service center
I also read somwhere (forgot where) that the rainbow stain can be caused by pressure
yours is a very neat rectangle
does it always appear in the same place ?
when the pressure releases later it can then vanish
this is the link, it also explains how to solve the stain issue

Zesper, thanks for the link.. this is the issue with my Touch HD. Its now shipped for repair and I hope the warranty will cover it. The funny thing here is that the problem comes and goes.
Regarding the dropping calls, ill try with the switch to gsm, once its back again from repair.
Thanks
Ok so I don't know if watermark would be the right word. But that is the best way to describe it. I had my phone in the case in my purse. Woke up and went to use it and it had a perfect rectangle in the middle of the phone that looks like maybe the screen has been pressed to hard and never let go of. I will show a picture to let you see what I'm talking about. I've never dropped my phone. And I know nothing happened to it because I was sleeping and it was never touched. I've tried to contact htc, no response. And I purchased my phone off of craigslist so not sure on the warranty and that sort. But I am very sad and hope that maybe you guys can help me. I've searched high and low but every search comes up with nothing, or not exactly the same problem I'm having. I've soft reset and hard reset but to be completely honest with you I think that It has nothing to do with the software but the actual hardware.
Thank you in advance!
it is called newton-rings you can read more about that on wikipedia
you can find discusion in here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=531329
hope that HTC will help you with this
oh thank you so much that's all I needed was a name for it!
I have noticed a mark like yours on my screen for the past few days, just thought it was about a damp under the screen protector, so today whilst installing wm6.5 I decided to remove the screen protector, only to find that the phone no longer responded to touch screen! looks like ill be in contact with HTC tomorrow about getting it sent back for repair.
I don't know if I am completly correct when writing this, so please correct if I am totally wrong.
This is not actually, per definition, newton rings. As described on wikipedia, newton rings is reflection of light between two surfaces where one is flat and the other is spherical. The width of the light and dark rings are supposed to become smaller the further out from the center of the spherical surface you go.
I have not opened my device yet, but I have a feeling that it is som kind of fluid that is doing this. I actually have a drop of some kind of fluid (probably water) coming in from the right side of the screen, just above center.
I will post back as soon as I have opened it.
EDIT: Ok, it seems I could be very wrong as I found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=560051
BUT, i still have drop of water (I think) coming in from the right side of the screen.
Hi,
On my rooted nook touch, sometimes the touch screen stop working.
It appends whatever software i'm using and randomly. Buttons works, page refresh works too and the nook doesn't lag, it's just a touch screen crash...
I tryed to unregister the nook and to update it from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1 then root it again but the problem still here.
Do you know a solution for this problem ? each time it's append I must hard reset the device (power + right bottom buttons)... is there a service to restart to enable touch screen again ?
Thanks
Hi, I'm new here ^^.
I bought the nook touch 2 months ago, and it worked perfectly until yesterday. I installed MSN Mercury from the market, I logged on my account, but when I clicked the menu button, the touch screen stopped working and I used adb reboot from my pc to restart it (I didn't know how to hard reset).
It scared me a lot, and I uninstalled that msn when I restarted the nook.
I request a solution for this too, and, do you know a simple MSN that works perfectly on our e-Ink nook?.
PD: Sorry for my bad english ^^u
Same as you.
Just screen is out of response.
Happened both 1.0.0 1.0.1.

i'd seen a thread about this problem in the B & N forum, many users have this problem but there is still no patch to solve it...

Long thread about the subject.
From the thread and running into the issues myself, it seemed to be a sensor/dust issue as the only solution I found working is wiping the screen with a cloth or so. This is kind of sad since I already has a screen protector on it but I guess any bit of dust on the screen could cause the touch function to fail.

I do not have much faith in the dust theory, you'd need some serious dust, like sand, on your screen for the sensor array to even notice it
Remember, it's not a touch sensitive screen like those on phones and pads, but a rather coarse infrared grid "above" your screen.
I've experienced this once myself, and then I simply put the NST away for the night and when I woke up in the morning it was working again which makes me suspect a lockup in the driver,
Had this happen to me. Here is the timeline
1. Girlfriend bought nook for birthday
2. Dropped said nook after 2 months or so
3. Bought refurb off ebay from B&N's ebay account
4. Screen would stop working randomly
5. Contacted support
6. They shipped me a refurb replacement
My second nook wasn't under the extended warranty or even a 30 day warranty. Its a manufacturing issue so they should replace it for free.
Ok, so I had this same problem, and took it to B&N, they said that they hadn't seen that before a gladly replaced it for me. To this day I'm still not sure what caused it, but I know it happened after leaving it in a pretty how car, but not sure if that's linked or not. My current one which I've had for about 5 months hasn't had any problems.
Old thread is Old but I'd gotten mine knocked out of my hands. Screen looks undamaged but the hardware buttons don't appear to do nything other than holding down the n switch to make the glowlight come up. Tried putting it to sleep, plugging it into a computer. Only thing that seems to indicate it isn't a total brick is the glow will come up. Other than that screen has a static of the last book I was reading in coolreader.
Bought the thing for an easter preasent to myself from walmart. Still have the box but it's rooted and til the drop had no problems whatsoever (well problems that weren't due to user error.) Saw a 'leave it overnight' suggestion and am going to ttry that.
Is there anything I can try or is this going to be one of those 'the outside looks fine but the slight bump wiggled something loose that you're going to need to tear the whole thing apart to fix.' things?
Edit: failing that could someone walk me through the button presses/times to press each button to un-root/restore backup using NookManager? I'd be doing that blind as the screen only shows an image from coolreader but I figure better to try taking it back to stock before returning even if nobody looks it over.
Hi All,
Solution for screen as simple as... get tissue, dump it with a bit of water (tap water will do) and clean your screen carefully. Solved Make sure that water gets into corners of screen. There is some kind of filter. It must have connection with top of the screen... some how water do the trick. I was designing custom cover/case for my nook when I discovered it. BTW your finger shod be a bit wet when you use your nook.
Hope it helps!
Thanks
Van

The Nook doesn't have a capacitative or resistive touch screen, so having a wet finger is irrelevant. Instead, it uses an infra-red touch screen. Between the screen and the grey plastic bezel, you'll see a transparent lens protecting the IR emitters and receivers used to determine finger position. Reportedly, if that gets dirty, it fails to register finger positions.
Hi.
My S4 suddenly decided to not work as it should, I do not know the cause and would like help identifying it.
I have uploaded pictures of the screen. There is a colorfaded spot in the top right corner, very visible when the screen is off.
When I look closely at the spot, I can see a lightning pattern in the spot.
Is this due to a fall?
Do I need to replace my screen to have this fixed?
With regards.

Link to screen on: s11.postimg.org/3q8wjt73n/20160307_161215.png
the real question is can you live with it ?
there's no fixing something like that without a new screen. it's hard to tell if that is above the screen (delamination), or on the panel itself.
It looks like something, maybe liquid, is caught between the LCD and the glass. Or, lcd has started to separate from the glass.
Cheapest fix may be to have the glass and adhesive replaced by an experienced cell repair person.
Thanks for the reply. I'm guessing that the adhesive is to fault for this.
Don't know if its worth fixing as the screen is functional, but it is irritating.
Old phone so I guess I'll be looking for an upgrade.
Thanks for the help!
