Hard reset / put back original ROM without Power button??? - XPERIA X1 General

Hi!
I dropped my Xperia on the ground for some days ago and after that my power button stopped working.
I can start the phone now by starting the Update Service from SE and it's when I put back the battery with the cable connected to the phone were the phone boots up.
So to my question, can I hard reset or somehow install the original ROM to the phone without having to use the power button. The phone works great otherwise.
Please, I really need to put back the original ROM/firmware so that I can leave it for repair at a official workshop.
Thanks a lot for any help!

I can't answer your question regarding putting back the original ROM without the power button, but from a legal perspective Sony would not be able to refuse to repair a HARDWARE fault with your phone irrespective of whatever SOFTWARE (ie ROM version) was installed on your phone.
They may try and fob you off, but if you threaten legal proceedings or the Small Claims Court they will likely back down. Also ask them to direct you to the specific clause in their warranty statement that says that you may not install software on YOUR device without THEIR permission.
Of course this is just my opinion, and a UK-based one at that!

Yes, you can:
1) switch your phone on
2) download original ROM and rename it RUU_Signed.nbh
3) download RUU updater
4) put original ROM into RUU folder, overwriting the original RUU_Signed.nbh
5) Connect your phone in Active Sync mode
6) run the RUU updater. It will sitch your phone off, then on, then entern into tricolour mode and update your phone
6) your phone will restart automatically once the update is finished.
7) follow the procedure to restore the original SPL (read the sticky thread in the ROM section)
This procedure should work, please post back here otherwise!
@Fork
Probably he want to try to repair it under warranty.

white screen please help

I brick my phone ,now ,white screen start, not enter sys,can be link by pc!!please give a newer uspl!!thanks....
Hey buddy, can you give a little bit more info. Were you trying to flash your phone? If so, did you the PDF directions?
white screen experience
Brief experience:
1, my phone is the original shadow , English system.
2, would like to refresh the Chinese
3, in the absence of support shadow that use the Dopod c730'uspl refresh the shadow'uspl, lead white screen
4, the current machines can not be normal start, the start-up is white screen ; hold down the camera key and link usb phone can be connected computers, and can access to refresh uspl interface. An error come when use the latest uspl of shadow refreshing ," this update utility cannot be used for your shadow ,please get newer update utility"
Turn of your phone, press the two soft keys and press the power button, then let go of the power button while still holding the soft keys. Then you will get into the tri-color boot screen. Then try to flash your phone again.
He says that he had flashed the wrong SPL.
The SPL is for HTC S710(vox) only, but he flash it into his T-mobile shadow.
The SPL still at work, can be connected with MTTY
but can not reflash official rom with RUU.

please help me!!!who can make a rom for my shadow!!!
Don't listen to previous posts
The Previous posts on how to fix this porblem are not correct. If your shadow gets a white screen, or will not boot windows fully, you will have to either reset the OS to defaults, or reinstal OS completely.
The First option is to Reset the OS to default this can be done by following these steps:
1. turn off the phone
2. Press and hold the two soft keys that are right below the LCD screen. (These are the keys above the Home Key and the Back key)
3. While holding these keys, press and release the the power button, this should turn on your phone, if not try again. (do not keep holding power key, but continue to press the soft keys)
4. A screen will then appear asking you if you want to reset your phone, press the Send key (The Key with the Phone on it)
5. The OS will then begin to reset. If this does not work, follow next option.
The Second and only other option is to perform a rom flash. You will need the original tmobile shadow rom. I've tried with several hacked roms, and they never finish while doing this. Download original rom from here:
http://wiki.allshadow.com/index.php/Downgrading_to_WM6.0/_Neo_on_the_Shadow_2007
Now you are ready to fix you problem.
1. Turn off you phone
2. Press and hold the Camera Button on the side of the phone. (press no other button with it)
3. Now press and release the power button (phone should now turn on, if it does not, try again. Do not release the phone button)
4. After phone turns on, it will then show you a Colored bar screen, this is knows as the Boot Loader screen. It has a similar purpose as the Boot Loader and Boot Select screen that is seen on PC computers.
5. Place phone down in secure location, and connect to your computer. (drivers may install after connection, let them install before moving on)
6. Open the Shadow Rom update utility that you downloaded before and follow prompts.
7. Once update completes you are now ready to use your Shadow Again. If you want a different Rom, go ahead and download and follow instructions for installing that rom.
Things to avoid this in the future:
1. ensure you are updating rom with phone on a secure surface, ensure it will not fall and disconnect from Computer during update.
2. ensure battery is full
3. use roms tested and validated by other users. Read reviews of problems and known issues.
4. Use tested, validated, and/or signed apps. (ensure apps are meant for smartphones with QVGA and windows mobile standard. Generally this is not a problem, but better safe than sorry)
So that is a step by step guide on how to fix your problem. good luck
Will this also help me?
Zephnath,
I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to my phone, but I upgraded to WM 6.1 a while ago. If I follow your steps to re-load the original rom will it also go back to WM 6.0? If not, do you know how I can change my phone back to WM 6.0?

Sorry to keep you waiting, but if you follow the steps above and you use the rom downloaded from this link http://www.sendspace.com/file/thvf9u you will have your phone set back to the original rom issued by t-mobile.
If you installed, or tried to install a rom not from tmobile, you will have to follow the second step I provided.
If you have not attempted, or do not have a rom that is not from t-mobile, then follow step one.
If you are not sure, follow step two, by first downloading the file I posted a link to above
Edit: Following these steps will put you back to Windows Mobile 6.0
So you're saying that the SPL from the OEM rom will overwrite the SPL from the Vox? I always thought that flashing a SPL from the wrong phone would brick it for sure with no takebacks.

What I am saying, is that following these steps will get you out of the whole with the white screen of doom, if you follow them. I've done this on not only one shadow but on two, several times. When going back to original rom, it works just like it did out of box. (Slow and clumsy) But at least you have your phone back, and with MyFaves again.
When you go back to the original rom, provided via the download link from previous post, the phone is as it was when you first got it. (Including the SPL, so if you want to flash a different rom on the phone you have to unlock it all over again.)
People have done this many of times. Often people have hardware problems and need to send the phone back for warranty fixes, but waite, they flashed their rom to 6.1. That voids their warrenty. So what do they do now? I know, they flash it back to 6.0 using the official update (the link I included) that t-mobile provided. They send their phone back to manufacture and get their replacement as if their old phone never saw a different rom.

The method used is a little bit risky, because it involves flashing a special version of the radio stack to perform the unlock, but if you follow the instructions properly everything should be fine.
Note that the unlock procedure requires you to reflash your Universal. Although the unlocking procedure itself should be safe, you are advised to take a full backup of all device data before use.
1. Backup your phone (not necessary, but advisable).
2. Remove your SD Card.
3. Enter bootloader mode on your Phone. To do this, simultaneously hold down the backlight key (“bulb” key, next to volume key), the power key and soft reset the phone. Your phone screen should clear, and you will see very faint writing saying “serial”. Let go of buttons etc.
4. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB lead.
5. Run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe program – this will reflash your phone with necessary software required to enable the unlocker.
6. Wait patiently.
7. Once the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe upgrade completes, soft reset your phone by pressing the soft reset button on the back of the device [if the flash has been successfully applied, you should see that you now have Radio version 0.00.00]
8. Allow your phone to reboot. Once it has, connect to your PC using Activesync, and copy the UNI_Unlock_v1.exe program onto your phone. Alternatively, copy it to an SD card and insert into your phone.
9. Run UNI_Unlock_v1.exe on your phone. Wait patiently.

could you tell me some suggestion about how to unlock htc_t-mobile wing, because i still no clear about this. anyway please send me some pictures solve this
regarding.
If you would actually read the thread, or just my last post even, you would see that this is not intended for the wing, and I do not reccommend using it because it could destroy your phone.
THERE IS NO FREE SIM UNLOCK PROGRAM AVAILABLE FOR THE WING
That being said, here are your options if you want to get your wing unlocked:
1. Call T-mobile customer care at 1-800-TMOBILE or 611, as for the Smartphone/Pda department, and tell them you need your phone unlocked because you are going overseas for a week and you need to be able to use a foriegn sim card in your phone. They will email you the code in 48 hours. This only works if you have a T-Mobile account in good standing for at least 90 days.
2. Pay to have it done. That's what I had to do, because I don't have T-Mobile anymore.

Yeah, it doesn't work because it's not for the wing dude. Its for the UNIVERSAL. buzz_lightyear is a moderator here who developed the unlocker and buzzdev is his site, linked in his signature. The Universal is NOT the wing, and the unlocker for it will not work on the wing. You aren't doing anything wrong, it's just not meant for your phone. See the original xda thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=266758

It has nothing to do with being cheap. I don't think anyone should have to pay to have it done.
I totally agree with you man, I think it's totall bs, but they kinda have us by the balls here. I looked for MONTHS for unlocking tools, but there simply are none for the Wing/Herald. If you ever find anything let me know.
how much is it to unlock the Wing?
There are people around here on the forums that will do it, but I don't personally know any of them, and I don't get a guarantee either. I took mine to a local cell phone shop that I trust and had them do it. It cost me about $40, and it was worth every penny.

[Q] Bricked phone after task29 and rom flashing

Hello. First I want to thank all of you who develop roms and the like. I have had such a blast over the past month and a half customizing my phone in ways I never thought possible. Last night I ran flashaholicruu.exe on my HTC HD2 Leo. The task29 seemed to work properly, however when I attempted to flash the rom I received errors. I tried Leo_Radio_2.11.50.26.sfx, which had previously worked on my phone. It stopped at 96%. I did the recovery, however the phone now will not even boot the splash screen. It simply vibrates non-stop when I turn it on until I remove the battery. Does anyone have ANY advice at all? Am I able to load a ROM onto the SD card and directly boot from it while my phone is in this state?
I have removed the battery and reinserted it. Did not work.
I have also tried pressing the volume buttons and the power on button to get the bootloader, but just vibrates in the same manner as when I press on button.
Please help!
Thank you

Ahh. I wish. T-Mobile is giving me a hard time about replacing it because I was not the original owner of the phone. The phone is only about 3-4 months old though.
I had this happen to me.
Try to load it directly into bootloader by holding vol-down when you press power button, then flash another radio (i recommend 2.12.5) then try another ROM thru RUU.
Also, make sure your battery is place in there securely and that all 3 pins from the phone are sticking out.
I had a situation where one of the pins was sticking vertically and the battery was only hitting 2 (from doing too many battery pulls) and it did this weird vibrate splash screen boot sequence.

You'll need contact details for the original owner, but by law they have to honor the agreement they put in place with them, regardless of whether you are that person or not.
Just get back onto T-Mobile and if they say no then speak to someone higher up. I know this to be the case after selling a palm pre to someone at the beginning of the year and it died on him shortly after.

Really? This is good to know. I contacted the original owner. I feel so bad and I hope he doesn't think I am trying to scam him. I just want a working phone and I think that T-Mobile should honor that.

he needs to rename the .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh and pair it with the RUU that came
with that same stock ROM
but then again, if he cant get into bootloader, the phone is definitely bricked

What exactly did you do to try and enter bootloader mode? You said you pressed the volume 'buttons' and the power button but that combination would initiate a Hard Reset and not bootloader mode..
How to get into your Bootloader
1. Turn your phone off
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN then Press and hold the POWER button. After about 3 seconds the tri-coloured screen should appear.
3. To exit Bootloader you need to remove your back cover and pull the battery out for a few seconds, then replace it and press the power button to reboot your phone.
If you cannot get into the bootloader with the above instructions then it looks like you have bricked your device somehow but im not sure exactly how you could do it as task29 doesnt touch HardSPL.
If you can get into bootloader then you can flash a rom back to your device using the sd card method in my guide *HERE*.

htc hd2 locking up/reset

hi my htc hd2 which i got "on the hook up" lol
is locking up
95% of the time it wont load past the (stick together) even if i reset it even the hard reset.
or it will load the (stick together) screen and reset over and over to the (stick together) screen
OR when it does load it will work for about 10-15 min the reset and stick at the
(stick together) screen again ... Any ideas would be GREAT thanks yall
funny im having the same issues
dont really see the "funny" but .... thanks PLEASE help i am sitting dead in the water with no phone
2 options at this point basically:
1-hard reset
2-flash a new ROM via USB or SD card
Instructions to do both can be found by searching.
hard reset has been done
and i cant flash because it wont load
looking at the post on this TMOUS subforum, seems like it is occurring more and more often this past month. since this "won't boot past stick together" glitch only comes up occasionally, and even then, only if you soft reset the phone, most people who keep their phone on for weeks will never come across it. You have 3 options to do in order: 1. Troubleshoot the problem yourself, 2. convince tmoUS to exchange, 3. convince HTC to exchange.
1. might be a problem with tmo's latest batch of shipped HD2's with 2.13rom. if the custom ROMs don't help, try flashing the latest TMO 2.14rom via microSD. With this sticktogether problem, you might still be able to get into the bootloader (volume down + power). Download the latest official rom at: www.tmobile.com/wmupgrade , unzip the exe file, copy the RUU_signed.nbh into your microSD, rename it to LEOIMG.nbh, and let the HD2 bootloader do its job. See link at the top of this forum. That's it, it will flash by itself. If the latest 3.14rom still has the problem, then
2. call tmo tech support. Tmobile US has the best customer service of the US carriers, they'll try their best to help any customer with a good account, as long as your phone is not reported stolen Walk into a tmo store, and the rep might even do the above "flash via microSD" for you, as long as you have a working tmo phone number, you're a customer.
3. last, call HTC, this is a pain, but well worth it if all else fails. Regardless of where you bought the phone, HTC might replace/fix it if it is a known issue. If one agent won't help, call back again if necessary. Lots of xda members have done so.
good luck, and read the stickies at the top of this forum, especially the "flash via microSD" sticky.
tmoUS & HTC both said no about after an hour on the phone
now it wont go past to stick together screen i even did the hard reset HELP lol
anybody? please
Have you tried flashing a new ROM via SD card?
the phone wont boot past stick together screen
when i plug it in to my computer is looks for soft ware but thats it i think its called cdma comm something please let me know how i can do that
it says looking for soft ware
qualcomm cdma technologies msm
You don't need to connect it to your PC to flash via SD card. Read the stickies for info on how to do it.

HD2 HELP today pls

Hello guys,
I got a HTC HD2 today from ebay, the seller has 100% feedback.
I have done a search about my problem but I dont wanna do anything wrong on the phone if the phone is faulty and send it back.
My situation was, I got the phone, inserted my SIMcard and set all the first settings. after 2min someone called me, when I answered the call couldnt hear anything and the phone was frozen :\ after few seconds the phone reboot itself and I waited 5min to see if turned back on, but didnt :\
I've tried pressing the yellow reset botton near the battery, I've tried hard reset.
And if I press VOL down and turn the handset on thats the info I get :
PB81120 SS-B3
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x50
and on the bottom of the screen says SERIAL, nothing else
I've got the phone from America (T-mobile) I'm in australia, melbourne
I've worked hard to get this phone and now when I got, could only use it for couple minutes
Please help me asap.
Thank you and sorry open other topic about it
Guessing its TMoUS HD2 Leo1024. BTW what rom is installed on it did you get to notice while you had it? Something is odd here you are not sharing with us how does it go and get stuck in that screen.
Well to be safe if you don't know flash it. So don't matter remove the battery and restart it and go to bootloader mode by pressing power button while holding down the bottom volume button. Then connect the device to your PC via USB mount and download and run HSPL or you can do it via stock rom go download 2.10 from WM dev archive thread.
I just got the phone today :\ the seller said to me the phone is the tmobile version 512mb. I'm a bit noob with HTC, Ive been with iphone until today. well, Im not sure which rom I had, but I think its LEO.
Ive tried all afternoon, I removed the battery out of the phone for 2 hrs, then tried again(without SIMcard) and the phone started up again as new settings and asked me to put my simcard in, so I removed the battery and put the simcard in, turned the phone on, it got stuck again in STICK TOGETHER screen
I dont wanna be inconvenient about all my questions, I just want my phone fixed :\
I couldnt do anything with the phone cos I set up the settings, after couple min got a call and the phone froze and it reboot it self stucking in STICKY TOGETHER screen. I was trying to flash it, but how can I sync my phone with windows 7? cos if I put in bootloader screen, it says USB at the bottom but WMDC says device not conected.
Do you have any solution for my problem?
thank you for your reply
Ahhh as you said TMobile I naturally thought it would be Leo1024(HD2-US) but now that you say its 512mb thats not TMobile you are using Leo512(HD2-EU). I had a feeling you flashed your rom as you flashed wrong one then.
So to verify post the HSPL and ROM data from where you got it from so we know. Also visually verify your actual device does it say TMobile on the top? does the button have colors? If both = yes its TMobile.
My phone has T-Moline on the top and has colors on the buttons. its definately t-mobile. I asked the seller and he said was 512, maybe he is wrong.
I havent done anything to the phone I cant flash cos I cant even conect with my computer the phone came from USA. I'm in australia
thank you
If it's a USA TMobile, then it's not the 512 version, and you need to flash only US TMO compatible ROMs or you could brick it.
When you say you tried a hard reset, how did you do that?
It should be when the phone is off you hold down both volume up and down, and keep them held down, then briefly press the power button but keep holding the volume buttons.
What happens when you do that?
Try to flash it through the sd card.
- Download the rom you want, uncompress the files, rename the nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
(The original HTC rom files can be uncompressed too, even if they are .exe files - you will find a .nbh file inside)
- Copy this file to the root of the sd card.
- Reboot while pressing volume down.
It should start to flash the new rom.
That's what I called Hard reset
I'm doing it again and comes up a grey screen saying
This operation will delete all ur personal data, blah blah blah..
Press VolUp to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel
I pressed VolUp
..restore..completed
Press VolUp to bootup

Well if that appears to work, but doesn't, you could have a real problem there. Do what joooe suggested above - that's the only option you've got left, without sending it away for repair.

how can I know the right ROM for my phone, cos the seller is saying its t-mobile 512mb and @johncmolyneux says that t-mobile is 1024mb
I dont wanna brick my phone at all.
I'm from portugal but I'm in australia, let me know if you can help me flashing my phone detailed. regarding I'm noob about it :\
thank you
or what ROM do you recomend for me?
can I provide you more info about my phone? to get the right ROM for me.
thank you
AFAIK, if it says T-Mobile on it and it has coloured call buttons then it's a US TMobile. Only the US ones have coloured buttons, and they're all 1024MB ROM.
May be wise though to wait for someone else to confirm this, as you've got me doubting myself now!
what would happen if I install AFAIK rom and then my phone is 512mb? would brick my phone? I would be unable to use my phone anymore? thank you so much for all ur help guys

I don't know if it's 100% bricked afterwards, but you do need to install a compatible ROM, made for your device, so you need to be sure which one it is. It's really not worth rushing this and trying to just install a ROM as you may irreparably damage your phone.
ok, I will follow ur advice
should I follow this thread?

thank you very much
Like I said earlier, wait for a while and let someone confirm that it is indeed a 1024MB ROM, or you will probably brick it and not be able to fix it.
HSPL3 works on all types of HD2 though, so you can flash that. Those links are both actually the same thing.
Just don't flash a ROM until you know 100% that you have the right type.
It is the TMOUS 1024 LEO.
Go to the HTC website and download a T-Mobile USA ROM, you are required to enter the phone's serial number. This will guarantee that you only download a ROM that is suitable for your phone.
Since you really just want to test the phone then go for the 2.10 ROM.
Firstly press and hold the Volume Down button, then tap the power button. This will bring you into Bootloader Mode (as you previously have done). When you plug in the USB cable to the computer the 'Serial' on the phone's screen will change to 'USB'.
As an administrator run the ROM and just tick the box about activesync.
thank you.
can I provide more info about my phone? to make sure for everyone?
thanks

I was 99.9% sure and just wanted someone else to agree really.
Basically, US T-Mobile HD2 are the only ones in the world with green and red call/end-call buttons, and every US T-Mobile HD2 has 1024MB ROM. If the guy you bought it off said it was 512MB then that would explain why it's in its current condition. It sounds like he believed it to be a 512MB version, and flashed a bad ROM. It also sounds like he's palmed it off on you, believing it to be knackered.
As fred_up said, go the the HTC site and download an official ROM for that device. You should be able to install that with no issues and see if the phone definitely works or not.
Good luck mate
@fred_up
do I have to flash first with this HSPL3?
I have downloaded and the phone was detected I went just to the step to select HSPL version to install
the choices are :
2.08.HSPL
2.08.0000
what should I do first?
I will try to find the rom on HTC website.
thank you very much
