Hello,
I am looking for someone who can unbrick my Elfin (purchased as a TMO Touch), somewhere in Europe or the UK (I'm not really keen to ship it farther afield).
If you are anywhere in the European Union and think you can help me, please contact me at [email protected] and let me know your expectations as to remuneration.
Thanks.
Wolf
Have you tried gold carding it?
and is it , you spilled liquids or ..
What exactly is gold carding? I just purchased a Htc Touch that does not power up, so researching on repairing options.
If it doesnt power up, you may have to go to the service centre
Please be reminded that digitizer only replace the touchscreen only.
(Not the same as LCD)

Nope, haven't tried that yet, only found out about it just now. Will try that (and the Unbricker ROM) next.
And no, I haven't physically damaged it or spilled anything on it or taken it swimming
Can it go to bootloader mode?
When pressed the power and camera button.

OK, tried gold carding it, both with my distributed ROM (TMA) and with the Unbriking ROM.
When I reset the device with the stylus, or by removing the battery and putting it back in it immediately goes to the tricolor bootloader screen.
It will load a ROM from the SD Card, but will never boot beyond the tricolor screen.
The Bootload Screen says "SPL 2.26.0002" at the top of the red field, and "SPL 2.26.0000" at the bottom of the red field. Top right corner says "RUU", and bottom left will say USB whenever it is plugged into a USB.
Any Advice?
Fantastic, you are reaching there.
Continue.
Go flash a ROM in.
Download the stock rom first and when you see te multi colour screen, flash it there.
and of course, take reference from this xda wiki page.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Elf_GoldCard
Go down to 'Unbrick your device' and read from there.
Yea, I hav 2 Elfs, one I'm replacing the digitizer (easy) but I purchased one to repair myself, so instead of the service center do you guys know what maybe would be needed if it does not power-up...maybe a new board? the battery holds charge.
Thanks for the hint, between Gold Card and the Unbricker image I got it going.
Now, how do I get rid of the very first screen which says "Smart Mobility. Test Only. Not for Sale" -- is that the IPL, and can I flash that with the IPL image (i.e. IPL 3.10) as "ELF0IMG.nbh" on the micro SD card?
it is always good to flash using a PC, not a microSD.
Gold carding thread for elf/elfin can be found here.

As for the not for sale and smart mobility screen, im really sorry.
I cant help.
But you can google and i dont know whether it works for your device.

Guys, I need a bit of advice please.
After an accidentally botched radio install (phone fell and disconnected from USB whilst flashing), my HD2 won't boot. It gets stuck on the multi-coloured 'initial screen' (for want of a better expression) with 'SPL-1.42.HPSL XE CotullaHSPL' on it.
I'm looking to do one of two things, either rescue it, or, PREFERABLY kill it completely so that the device does not even boot to that screen. I know that sounds like a strange preference, but that would be ideal for me. Have you got any suggestions at all guys?
If you want to send it back and get a new one, then you definetly have to remove HSPL. Get HSPL2 and try to flash 1.42.0000. If it works, your problem is solved! Simply take it to customer service, complain about it not booting all of a sudden and you`ll either get a new one or get yours fixed.
However... if you fail removing HSPL and have no other option available, try and microwave it, literally. Put it in a microwave oven until it refuses to boot, then take it back to customer service complaining about how it suddely stopped working.
Best of luck!
Quite LITERALLY put it in the microwave and turn the microwave on?? For how long? Won't it just 'melt' the innerds, or blow up?
Yep. I did this to mine in 10 second intervals. The first time nothing happened, it just got hot. The second time, the vibrations stopped working. The third time nothing. The fourth time the screen started to fail (but STILL booted into the bootloader). The fifth time it only booted with a white screen and I stopped, as I had acheived what I wanted and the screen was already pretty damaged.
Thanks, a very, er, interesting suggestion. However I want the phone to look the same, i.e undamaged! But be bricked. If it's not possible, then I'll have to try and rescue the poor thing .
Best decision you could take. Hope you succeed!

Does it show USB on the bootloader(multi-color) screen?
If it does you can flash a new radio/rom and maybe fix it ...
Or Flash from SDcard
I've managed to flash it to stock 1.43 from SD card, which appears to have also removed the HSPL. This is a win. However, I would still like to brick the phone so I can get a brand new replacement... I really could use a sure fire (but safe, and does not cause hw damage) brick method.
hspl, task29, remove hspl. you`ll get a white htc logo screen without the ability to enter bootloader.
However, I would still like to brick the phone so I can get a brand new replacement... I really could use a sure fire (but safe, and does not cause hw damage) brick method.
A friend (and yes - it was actually an friend and not me!) allegedly did this:
He took the socket from the end of an extension lead, put the plug into the mains socket and then VERY CARFULLY and very briefly touched the bare Live and Neutral wires onto the battery terminals in the phone.
240V into the circuit board apparently did the trick
**** Disclaimer ****
I think he was very silly to do this cos he could've hurt himself so please don't follow his example!
**** End Of Disclaimer ****
Hmm, yes, a method that doesn't involve microwaves or 240 volts would be preferable .

Hello i decide to post here because i dont know right now do is a ROM related problem or no and on the same time here will see it more peoples and hope someon to know what is this.
Yesterday something strange heppand with my Blackstone, without to do anything i just decide to see the time and when i turn on the device was totaly Freeze not reacting on any touch, im using the ROM from my signature from Mounth without any problem. So i was thinking that maybe its from the ROM what i did is Soft Reset few times But this does not help.. the device fully load But the screen is not responsive also the hardware buttons do not vibrate?!!? when i press them they do not react ot anything.
After i saw that the SR not helping i do a Hard Reset and when the device whole load the ROM and preparing for 1st time use i was not able to Calibrate the screen.. the strange thing is that the display react on touch because when im taping in the corners the crozz move and when i do all the steps just start from the begining all the time and i cannot pass this step.
After i saw that this do not help me alot i decide to Flash so i put Manualy the device in Bootloader mode and via PC methoud i flash a Brand new ROM, when the ROM fully load and im going again to the Align Screen i have again the same problem the procedure start over and over and i cannot do anything.
1st i was thinking that something heppand with my Display but i didn`t do anything with the device i mean drop it or damage it somehow.. this heppand like the device is at the table at home and few minutes Befor i speak on that Phone. On the same time Im sure the display react on touch even wrong... because when im pressing the X on the calibration screen is move and befor to do Hard Reset when i was with the ROM from my signature.. and restart few times.. when the phone Load a POP UP of notification appear and the strange things was that i was able to scroll it up and down with fingers so for this reason i was thinking is a Problem ROM and need to HR or FLasdh diferent ROM. The notification Pop Up that appear when you click the Taskbar somewhere you know that you cannot slide it because its static.. so how this heppand i dont know.
PLEASE IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEA what i need to do let me know this heppand for 1st time and i never hear for soooo weird Blackstone.
THank you in advance
P.S Today im 22 November im going to Repair Service here because my device still have One Mounth Warranty left so maybe im lucky or no will see that leter.. i post this because to let you know that its not necassery to drop or damage your device the Display (Digitizer) to Stop working.. in my sutuation the device was static on the table i never drop it and use it 20 minutes befor the display to die i make a call so im using this device from 23 Mounths and i think that just the Display Die itself.. and to be more corect the display still work and show everything but the digitizer DIE so have that on mind
I do now Task29 and re flash again the same problem its like the display reacting on touch but not corect... i think its something serious and i will need new Digitazer or Display or Both?!
Also Reverting Back to stock SPL and ROM do not help..
I think im for Repair Service
Thank you

i still don't understand how the f*** does this fin into ROM development
but anyway it also happened to me,first the digitizer went a bit crazy, then it went completely crazy and than i replaced it with a new one
i did it by myself...it can easily be done if you have any hand skills and can hold a screwdriver
but be really careful with placing the new digitizer over the screen because any irregularity may cause dust to later get in between the two
digitizer is less than 20usd i believe...
lcd+digitizer are 60+ if i remember correctly
if you decide yourself for lcd+digitizer first check if those are already sealed to each other, because if not,you will have the same situation as if you ordered the digitizer only...but with 40+ usd wasted in vain
also be extra extra extra careful while removing old digitizer from the lcd
cheers
If you are stack in the align screen, try first to create a summy file named "welcome.not" and put it in the root of your storage card. This will allow you to go through ROM setup without align. Then check to see if the screen is responding and if not then you most probably need to do what farukb said above.
MOD EDIT - Moved to General discussion as not related to rom development

In my case, the SD card was corrupted and in the next 3-4 days the touch screen is not responding either... I should note that in my case, I followed the advice by Stathis and created a "welcome.not" dummy file in the root of the phone's memory, so it skipped the screen alignment procedure. Unfortunately the screen is responding so I will have to take it to the service center in order to have it checked, in case it is still under warranty (I have bought it 2nd hand).
Otherwise, I will have to order a new screen and try to install it myself. Wish me luck!
Same here, i have some kind of smudge, like oil spill, on the screen. i thought of buying just the digitizer but as i disassembled it, found the digitizer and the display are a set, so don't bother buying just one of the parts.
@tsalta - since you're from BG, check this http://gsm-world.biz/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2630
I successfully repair digitizer on my blackstone! It is hard work but its wotrh it.
Now I have to repair some more HDs. But its strange that all of a sudden all of the HDs I know broke dow in a period of one month... mine broke down at the end of october.
Hey there,
I'm looking to buy a used HD2, and came across one at a good price on Craigslist. The owner says that the phone has "no operating system installed" and needs a new ROM. I was planning on throwing Android onto the phone anyways, but do not want to buy a bricked phone.
The seller has a picture of the phone screen which I could PM but can't link to since I'm a new user. Basically, the screen is divided into 4 parts: red, green, blue, and white, and there is text on the top, red section. Does anyone know what this might mean?
Thanks.
its the bootloader, means it can be flashed by any rom, but form this tricolor screen you cannot check the phone condition.
It means that you can easily install winmo rom/android/winphone7.
For android, install MAGLDR when the phone is at that state: hold (Red button + Voldown button), and plug into computer.
Then, using cwm, you can install any of the android roms on here.
Make sure u ask the guy if everything else on the phone is in working condition, and the only problem with it is that there's no OS on it.
You guys forgot to mention that this could be a fake HD2 from China.
Can you post a picture of the tri-color screen so it can be verified.
Tbh I wouldn't really trust buying it either way if it doesnt currently have a rom on. It takes minutes to put one on and if the seller hasnt done this for purposes of selling it would make me suspicious, It could have bad hardware or a corrupted nand or anything.
Sold it to someone else, thanks for the help though!
Hi. I have a problem with my HD2 and I didn't find a solution how to fix it for over a month and I don't think I will find it. So what will be the best way to Brick / Break my phone so what whey will not be able to turn my phone on or fix it and find out that it’s been hacked as then I will not get a new one or they will not fix it. Waiting for advices

I see a lot of solutions, but nobody seems to have told you to boot up your phone using volume down, which gets you directly into the bootloader, from where you can flash the Winmo 6.5 ROM.
Did you try that?
Otherwise there are numerous ways of trashing it i guess... mess around with electrical wiring and make sure the mainboard has a power spike or something... then you're sure nobody will be able to do something with it
Of course I tried it. The problem is that for some reason I can't get into bootloader, and I tried to do that 100 times with all different methods with no luck. I only can get into MAGLDR. I wrote all this in my first message in that threat
Well, from what i can understand after looking at your original post, you cannot enter the tri-color bootloader? Well, have you tried a hard reset? And, when you mentioned liquid entered your phone, you should also check the water indicator stickers on your phone and battery to see if they are pick or red. Else, they will not bother replacing or repairing it. Have you also tried resetting Android from MAGLDR? Back to your request, if you cannot enter the bootloader and unable to flash anything, the easiest ways to brick(any maybe recover) your phone are all void. The best way to physically damage your phone might be to short circuit it. Alternatively, if you just do not want them to know that you have flashed MAGLDR, you should damage the ribbon cable for the LCD. You have to unscrew the phone for this, but do gently remove the warranty and water indicator stickers before this. Please do explore all avenues like a hard reset and Android reset

Yes, I cannot enter bootloader and yes I tried hard reset (with volume up and down keys) with no luck. I checked my indicator stickers and they all look fine (white). The liquid damage was not a water damage I get a little bit of oily liquid on my phone but just a little, so very little of it could get inside my phone if any, but after that my phone just frozen on android screen and when I tried to reset it, it’s always freezes on android boot screen. And yes I tried resetting Android from MAGLDR, I even tried to install different android soft but after installation it still freezes on android boot screen.
Code:
the easiest ways to brick(any maybe recover) your phone are all void
Can you explain more about his one? And how I can do that?
I don't really want to unscrew anything because if I going to do something wrong I would void my insurance and they not going to change it at all. I was thinking maybe just drop it in a big cup of water and hold it for like 30sec - 1min. I think my insurance will cover water damage and I think whey not even going to bother to fix it. What do you think?

Hello HD2 users. i need some help from your possible experience (this might be a bit long to read, sorry)
I got a disassembled HD2 from a friend, which didn't have lcd/digitizer. I took it to a shop in my country which is an expert with htc phones (called htc solutions ). they said they will test the mainboard. if it works, they would put a digitizer and an lcd.
after a week i called back and they said the mainboard wasn't working so i took it back (still disassembled, no lcd/digitizer).
i got bored while studying for exams, so i tried assembling some stuff and testing it. apparently i connected the bottom buttons, the volume buttons, in-call mic and vibrator. i can tell that because i put a battery on the pins, plugged a usb in and it vibrated!
so i tried again... worked again.
then i hold down volume buttons, connected to usb and it was recognized. i even flashed ruu while holding battery with my hands.
then it rebooted, after some time while still connected to usb, orange led went on. after some time too, green one did (it's my other hd2 battery which was charged completely). device was recognized by pc again. i ran windows mobile device center, it showed hd2, asked to register etc...
i decided to try a custom rom, and flash worked and same thing happened.
now, in order to get activesync/wmdc to connect, the phone must completely boot right?
i asked them on their fb page, they said that it didn't work with them, and the expert said it stucked on htc screen.
and since it booted with me and connected to wmdc, then it booted right?
i couldn't test sound because i must put the back cover right? and i'm not expert, even connected the stuff inside the phone without watching tutorials/asking.
they said they can add the digitizer and lcd on my responsibility, (90$) so should i go for it?
also, does android boot if not all hardware is present? i tried to execute clrcad and haret in both roms (ruu and crossbowHD2 wm6.1), but never got adb to connect. i wanted to test clk and fastboot for android, but didn't have time
Yes Windows would need be booted but perhaps the stuck HTC screen was far enough for WMDC to recognise the device.
If it did indeed reflashed fully things sound promising.
Have you tried installing MyMobiler on your PC as allows you to view HD2 screen image on notebook, needs push file to device but can't remember if any interaction is needed on HD2 but worth a try.
Can you see your device in Windows explorer & view content of phone storage ?
Personally I would be inclined to buy a pre assembled lcd/digi combo (around 30USD)or lcd & digi separately if want save a little more & test it myself & rebuild it after reading some tutorials as will save yourself some dosh ($) if things are not 100% & should be able to resell parts to recoup outlay.
Thanks for your reply.
today before going to exams i downloaded and installed my mobiler and booted it. after connecting usb, (still on wm6,1 due to that ruu has install restriction policies for security, and wants me to confirm installation and launch of exe's afaik) my mobiler started installing on the phone automatically. and it showed the screen!
i saw that there was no sim card (cuz there was not) and pressed cancel in winmo, i got to home screen. so it works right? there's no way that pc could control the hd2 and get to homescreen if the screen is stuck on htc logo.
edit: i forgot, yes, i could browse nand or sdcard if connected from windows explorer. it seems very normal
oh, and i'm not gonna try to flash HSPL it's already flashed cz custom rom worked, and not safe at all since i have to keep holding battery with my hands for it to stay on )
Sounds good so far. Due to fact your HTC specialists don't appear to be too special I would recommend commencing with repair yourself.
Rebuilding the device with a pre built lcd/digi assembly is very easy & almost foolproof if you use this forum & research tutorials & do the job right & with a lot of care.
You will save a serious amount of cash & have the knowledge & feeling of achievement of doing the repair work yourself.
well, i can't find any digitizer or lcd replacemet in my country and can't order them, the reason i went to htc specialists.
but i'm not that sure i will come to them. if android boots fine, i might use ubuntu or make something with it

well, i may know someone who could order from ebay so i might do this after all. i think i'm missing the volume buttons, but the htc solutions store would give it to me at no cost. i love these guys but they're a complete rip-off.
i will see some tutorials on xda and the internet. if i find i'm capable of assembling it, i will do it
Thanks a lot for your help and your support, ( out of thanks ) :good::highfive:
make sure you order the right one, because there are 2 types of connection:
1st plug and play, 2nd with soldering. This is a piece of cake, I repaired mine recently with use of screwdriver and knife. Youtube has good tutorials "htc hd2 disassembly"

Not an issue when replace lcd/digi as a combo as they are already paired & it always best go for the plug/socket connector type. LCD to mainboard ribbon is same on them all.
not an issue actually because i got the button board's cable cut accidently (i feel so ashamed) and 90% i'm gonna leave it for spare parts for the working leo i have
Button board is only 3 to 4USD at the most & could probably be ordered same time as screen assembly. Only really worth doing if need 2 working handsets or want sell it or something otherwise keeping as spares is worthwhile but expect first thing you will need is a working digitizer lol
