as the title suggests, last night as i went to sleep i noticed my pnone lit up so i checked to see what happened and I've seen the headphones icon on..
This is very weird, as i havent used the headphones for a while, but most of all it is a BIG problem, since i cannot hear the ringtones or phone calls unless i plug headphones in..
Anybody has a solution or a workaround?
btw when i plug the headphones in, the voice speed dial page comes on... is this weird or not?????
Sounds like it could be the headphone jack itself that is faulty, I guess the first thing to try would be a hard reset and see if that helps. Otherwise trying to brush any kind of debris out of the port with a cotton bud may be a solution.
i thought it would be some dirt there as well, but how can just dirt enable the speakers?? shouldnt it be some kind of metal or water that it would cause the power to pass through? anyway i did try cleaning in with no results...
The headset jack acts as a switch, When the headset is plugged in, the sound is routed to the headset. The icon indicates that the phone sees the headset as inserted even when it is not. From a repair standpoint, I see this caused by an open short (broken solder joint or moisture) or even the head of the 3.5 pin broken off the end of the headset and still in the jack among other things.
Dirt would not cause the short. Double check the 3.5 pin itself as the start point.
Unfortunately, I think it will most likely be a hardware issue.
For what it is worth, the fact that the voice speed dial activates is not a surprise.

the problem has been solved by itself... I am guessing it was just some moisture gathered there... humidity is intense where i live and i will be not surprised if it was that... so far is been ok... It was rather funny that the problem was triggered exactly at midnight, so I thought it could have been a virus...

I had this issue in other devices and was able to cure it by inserting and removing the jack very quickly about 10x in succession.

The headphone jack is broken and the device will always return to the headset mode.
So I can not hear anyone during a conversation.
I would like to disable the headphone jack completely. Is there a program for that?

Usually the detection of an inserted headphone plug is done via dis-connecting a contact in the socket where the plug is inserted (it re-connects when you pull out the plug). The same dis-connection will also happen if some dirt has accumulated at the place where this contact is, so it stays permanently dis-connected.
Over time dirt creeps into all holes of the devices and depending on your usage and storage style that may have happened now. Try to get that cleaned - maybe it helps.
I have however also seen devices where the connector of the socket to the PBA is simply ripped-off - no way to get that fixed afaik.
Luckily one of the wizards here (ultrashot) also has an X1 (as I remember) and he did a lot of true SW hacking to it, maybe he knows a way to intercept the driver or has a hint which driver to de-activate. Mind that he is very busy with really important stuff - so a simple hint may be the only thing you may get.
@ John Carter I have had the same problem for months now, at first it took a couple of mins for the headset icon to disappear after unplugged then it turned to hours and now days if I'm even lucky . I just found this today: HKLM/System/State/Hardware/Headset 0 .This disables the headset but for me it still does not play sound out the loud speaker like I hoped, in locksreen( I use S2u2) mode the headset icon is gone but when in the main interface the icon is still sitting on taskbar or topbar. It really sucks to have to use a mic headset connector to call and answer voice calls. I'm still searching for answer hopefully somethings comes up. Edit: It's a hardware problem not software.

I had also tried to play with the \status key in the registry with the same (non-) effects. I guess you have to intercept/kill the signal from the HW/driver that steers the other parts into what they do. Not sure where the HW signal enters the SW stack and if that could easily be altered (e.g. by dropping a device-driver). You could play with the HKLM\System\Drivers\builtin branch and then go for headset or alike. You may end up with a non-booting device, so take care to back up in case a hard-reset is needed.
If you are willing to play with soldering (and have some skills), try to solder the contacts of the socket new to the PBA. My guess is that the contacts have either come loose on top of the copper part of the PBA (then you can re-solder) or they have been ripped of the PBA including the copper. You then have to guess where the copper-lines went and re-solder. Worst you can un-solder all parts, but this is not easy to do without decent tools. You may bake the PBA around the socket and ruin the device fully in the end.

No it's definitively a hardware problem. I have actually stopped using my phone for music now and instead my mp3 player. I haven't seen the headset icon for 3 days now so maybe I'm in the clear. I think every time I kept plugging in my headphones to listen to music it kept re-aggravating the headset jack so I figured if I stopped using it completely maybe it will stop messing up and so far it has worked .
So, I'm running into an extremely annoying problem with my G2. Just the slightest touch causes my headphone jack to stop sensing properly.
Example: I'll be listening to Google Music and i'll just ever so slightly move my headphone cable near the base of the 3.5mm headphone plug and suddenly the audio will stop as if I have unplugged my headphones. Yet, my headphones are still snapped in and once I press play again, the music continues on as if nothing has happened.
Some times my phone will go from headphones and speaker...headphones and speaker, headphones and speaker. It's as if it doesn't know my headphones are plugged in.
We are talking super light touching here. Any rotation of the plug while connected will cause it to fail. Simply picking up the phone will cause audio to suddenly stop. I'd be willing to bet that by simply blowing on the damn plug would cause it to fail. Hell, even a fart in the plugs direction would probably cause it to fail. That's how light of a touch I'm talking about here. Also, tapping and rotating the headphone plug while it's plugged in would cause Google Voice search to launch. Super weird.

I think I might be having a similar problem as yours but with a different device (Square card reader). When I plugged it in the first few times there was a good sturdy click and it felt like it was being held in the jack well. But now it pulls out of the jack too easily, and a light touch causes the reader to disconnect. It seems like the contacts for the headphone jack may have been pressed in or something because it only maintains good contact if i hold a little pressure on the reader.
Either way, I don't like my options since I can either go on with a dysfunctional headphone jack, which might be ok since I use bluetooth more often than the jack, or I can try to get a replacement from LG which will likely be a refurb. I'm rooted too and assume I'd have to unroot in that situation. What to do...

I think I pushed the plug in too hard on mine and caused the jack to loosen. Amazon replaced the phone for me no questions asked. They continue to amaze me.
Doesn't matter what I connect, it doesn't feel like it's every inserted completely and because of it I've been getting really irritated when the music stops.. Can I replace it and keep the same audio quality?
Or should I wait to trade it in?
Are you 100% sure that there is nothing stuck inside the port that is blocking a secure connection? Could be something pretty tiny even as it wouldn't take much to prevent the plug from clicking in completely
Yup, mine is the same. H918. I just take a little piece of the rubber off the plug in part and haven't had any problems since.
i faced this with my g3, if the headphones do not have a mic its a 2 connector and idk why but it makes teh phone think u hit the answer/call/play/pause button, just get a headset with a mic, problem soft or get bluetooth and dont sweat it at all

Pocket lint has done this to me several times. I put a little hook on a tooth pick and reached in. Every time I think no possible way, that's what it is.
You can also pull the cotton off a q tip and twist in there.

yup. my v20 started this with my car aux cable. activates google now constantly, stops music, any slight bump of the 3.5mm jack and im jacked.
Took phone apart cleaned with denatured alcohol and still the issue. The port is cheap and the connectors are not sufficently making contact with the aux end. Its a sh!tty quality part LG dumped on the phone so our quad dac experience would suck.. Just poor manufacturing is the issue imo
I have the same issue whenever I use a headset or plug without mic/buttons; Google Now keeps activating unless I position the cable just right, and it is extremely annoying. I also checked the circuit board when fixing my SD Card slot and noticed that the headphone jack is soldered on, so I wouldn't mess with that unless you have a lot of soldering experience under your belt.

Since last week whenever I'm plugging in earphones/headphones, the phone starts acting as though the earphones are plugged out - plugged in in a loop, like for one second it acts as though its plugged in and at the other plugged out. I tried cleaning the headphone jack with school level painting brush, tried catching if there's anything inside using toothpick and so. But that didnt solve the issue.
Next, 2 days ago, I plugged in the headphones again to check and the issue was still there. However, when I long pressed the button on the headphone, the headset icon in the status bar changed from headset with mic to headset without mic. I tried using Google Assistant by speaking to the headphone mic and it does work even when the icon is that of headset only. This solves the issue for the time until I remove the headphones again and plug them back in manually. So right now, that's the workaround which has helped me to solve this. But the button on the headphone doesnt work when I try to change tracks using it. Seems like it goes inactive after doing its work.
I'm confused if this is anything related to software or this is a hardware problem with the headphone jack. If I remember, this started happening after I updated to the August security patch. Any help regarding the same would be appreciated.

Edit: The headset icon with mic is now shown even when the headphones are not plugged in. This has happened earlier in mid July for 4-5 days but got solved on its own. The phone pretends as though headphones are been plugged in and thus disables media output via the speakers.
EDIT 1: Visited a service center located at Ghatkopar, Mumbai. They said it will cost minimum 3500Rs; that too without a guarantee of working n if it doesn't, I'll have to change the motherboard which will cost 15000Rs.
Did you try another headset? Sounds like the cable for the headset is shorting out or going open.

Yes I did try multi headsets. Right now the phone feels headset is being plugged in when they are not and carries out all media output accordingly. When I plug headphones with a button/mic+button, immediately, the phone opens the google assistant pop. It feels I long pressed the button on the headphones asking to open google assistant.

Gotcha... So the headphone jack in the phone needs to be replaced. Definitely a job for a service center.

Yes. And service center asked $54 to fix it. They are not sure if that will fix the issue or not.
Fix it yourself, it's not hard to disassemble this device. I replaced my battery without issues. The headphone jack is not soldered to the mainboard. Check eBay for spares.
I started having this issue recently. Looks like Headphone jack inside the phone is not working like it should. Same headset works fine on other phones and laptop, but when plugged into this x, it sounds like it is loosely connected.

I found out that my problem is (I'm still facing it) related to the IC on motherboard and not related to the headphone jack basically. I will update the main post accordingly.

Turns out this is from lint.
I fixed my issue by cleaning out the lint that got accumulated in the headphone jack. Use the tiniest drill bit and spin it gently in the direction of drill bit curves/groves, might take few tries, but this fixed it perfectly.

I used my phone without headphone jack - physically removed from the phone for a week but still faced the issue.
I changed the jack on my moto x pure. I bought a new jack on ebay and installed it.. I STILL had the very same problem!! Just on loop connecting and disconnecting... Maybe a motherboard failure.. I will check later... but I'm just regreting the 20 bucks spent on the new jack plus shipping :'(
when i plug my earbuds to the jack, only the left side outputs sound, even though it was fine just a couple minutes before, I tested it with multiple headsets and can confirm that it's not the headset's fault, i don't think there's water in it since it was in my pocket the whole time and it was not dropped either. I'm pretty sure it's the jack but I don't know how it could've broke. I'm a heavy listener and have some kind of headset plugged in for pretty much the whole day, but i don't think that wear could be the issue (I have a really early model if that helps) i would like to know your thoughts in this.
I had a similar problem, only difference i couldn't hear the vocals of a song but sound was coming from both the ears. It happened all of a sudden. But then i recalled later that, earlier while i had my headphones plugged in i was walking and the wire got stuck on the railing of a stair case and the earphones got removed from the jack very abruptly and thats what had caused damage to the jack.
I got it fixed from an asus service centre. It was the forst time fixing my phone so they did it for free.
You should try and recall if something like that happened to you while your headphones were plugged in that could have danaged your phone.

Clean lint from inside the port your earphones aren't plugging in correctly. It'll solve your issue. Try cleaning with a rubber stick or something that won't damage it but will also collect the lint and remove it. I use match stick (the non phosphorus part) for this and it always works.
