Any windows software to remove unwanted files - Touch 3G General

I installed iDialer and for some reason I am not able to uninstall it. I mad the mistake of removing the folder from the Porgram Files folder and I also tried reinstaling and uninstaling many times. now I have many idialer icons in the "programs" menu. Is there any tool available for Windows PC or Mobile so that I can remove unwanted icons and files?

You can use Total Commander (freeware) or even file explorer (whicih is a bit slower than TC). Search for the file (e.g. idialer.*), usually in \windows.. and delete it. Usually it uses the extension *.lnk (try search idialer.lnk)

If it is just about the icons in the startmenue, open file explorer, go to phone:>/windows/startmenue/programs and delete all unwanted files...
afterwards I would recommend to clean up the device by using eg sktools or something similar.

Thanks guys ;-)

Files in Windows folder: can they be safely deleted?

I've got lots of .dsm and .rgu files in my Windows folder, for example
12e09329-dd44-jhg589856-jh2525656598.DSM or .RGU
they're about 1 to 20k big. About 40-50 of them sit on top of my Windows folder.
have you got them too? What are they there for? And can I get rid of them?
They seem to be "hidden in rom" though, as they appear when the option "hidden on rom" is ticked in total Commander.
they also appear on my desktop's Explorer , throuh Windows Mobile/MyWindowsMobiledevice/Windows (or similar path)
Thanks for you help!
I think it is some digital cert for granting application access. If you delete it, you will be asked some applications is not signed and do you want to execute it. If you say yes, it will create this file again.
right. Have you got them too, or is it only me?
Yes, there is some in my k-jam too, from the timestamp you will know it is created when you installed some applications each time.
and what about this directory
\Windows\OEM on my qtek 9100
It contains MFC80U.dll
and msvcr80.dll
it looks like visual studio files and I don't understand what it does in my user memory.
Either it should be in WM5 files or It should be removed.
What do you think?
Regarding Bynaris Smartexplorer it is the best for smartphones clearly but:
1 - it is not a task manager, it is a file explorer
2 - it has been design to be used with numeric keypad shortcuts on pocket pc it is a pain to use.
However I really like its quickness.
I will just wait for a more pocket pc friendly version before I replace resco explorer.

Programs folder files getting bigger!

I noticed that whenever I install stuff to the SD card or the main memory, the application file is placed under the Start/Programs Folder. Now I am pretty sure it is a pain to browse the entire Programs folder if for example we need to use the Zip utility application which is found at the very end.
Now my question is: "Can we create a classification sub-folder to sort things out in the "Start/Program Folder" and not worry about messing some functionality of the application?
Is it OK to just cut and paste, for example the Zip application file under Start/Programs folder and paste it inside the newly created Start/Programs/Utilities sub-folder?
Any other ideas as to how to sort applications in the Programs Folder?
Hi cktlcmd,
You can manipulate you 'Start/Programs' by browsing to Windows/startmenu/programs with File Explorer (or Total Commander or Resco, etc.). You can create new subfolders there and cut (or copy) and paste the links to each program to whichever folder you desire. BTW, these are links (.lnk files) not the applications (.exe files). For example, you cold put the Zip utility .lnk file under Windows/startmenu/programs/Utilities.
Also, sometimes you need to make your own links for programs that don't generate their own. You can't do it in file explorer on your PDA. The easiest way is to use your PC through ActiveSync to create shortcuts just like you would in PC Windows. (Resco also works, Total Commander?)
Another idea, though, (which I use) is to invest in a launcher program for your Today screen such as iLauncher by SBSH or Spb Pocket plus. Much more convenient IMHO.
Boinger
Hi Boinger,
Thanks for the reply. I am afraid that a launcher would just slow this lovely puppy down. Right now, these are installed in my internal memory: Pocket Mechanic, MemMaid, and Handy Menu. So far, no slow downs, and I like the way they interact. Most of my programs are installed in my card.
I'll try it right now. Thanks again.

Hidden files and registry after Rom upgrade, what's up ?

Hi !
I've just upgrade my 9000 with Rom 1.30.89 ITA
With the previous Rom I can move shortcuts in Start>Programs in sub-folders created by me (for example: PIE in a folder called Web)
But now i see the shortcuts (of the pre-installed applications in Rom as Word, Excel, Agenda....) in Programs are hidden files and I can't move to my customized folders, i get an error !
I have an italian OS and the error is "Accesso negato" (probably in English is "Access denied")
Same error when i try to modify the registry from PC with Mobile Registry Editor or Smartione.
What's up ?
Is not my first Pocket PC and with all my past device i always was able to move folders in Programs and edit the registry from PC, but now I don't know what can I do...
Anyone with this issue ?
Thanks
answer
cut and paste the shortcut icons. you will have to have any start menu aplications closed to do this. It will give you an error if you try to move those icons if you don't close those programs also clear out all the checkmarks under start-settings-menu. this should help
I had this issue as well on my Dopod 900. These files seem to be classified as System Files now and are hidden.
I was using Resco File Explorer and it could not see these files. But checking the box "Show All Files", the files could be seen and moved.
Using File Explorer though, I am pretty sure that it sees the files with no problems. You can move them but you get a prompt saying that this might cause some problems with other software. Just have to click OK and it moves it.
Hope this helps.

Click to collapse
Thanks sandrobber, I always close all the running application before moving the shortcuts and I clear all the checkmarks
@capkapak
You're right when you say "These files seem to be classified as System Files now and are hidden."
Anyway thanks for your suggestion, I can move files with TotalCommander also (not only Resco) and modify the registry with PHM RegEditor
Obviously both installed in my 9000
But i would like move files and modify registry from my PC....
Ps: This is strange for me, I always was able to move files with ActiveSync and modify registry with Smartione without any problems.....
Thanks guys for your replies

Remove Program Icon for Uninstalled Program

I installed Nevo on my 8125, and I couldnt find it in the add/remove progs via activesync, so I just deleted the program folders and short cuts. Now there is just a blank .exe in my programs folder on the ppc. How would i remove this? thanx.
In your file explorer go to windows\start menu\programs and you should see that shortcut and be able to delete it.
Thank you mechle for posting that, its really annoying to have icons that arent linked to anything cluttering up program folders and start menus!!!

[Q]Shortcuts in TF3D

I'm just wondering if there is a possibility to create shortcuts in the Programs-Tab of TF3D of applications that are not installed but just run by clicking the .exe-file in the file explorer.
Like it is with GPong2D.
Does anyone know?
yep, just use a good file explorer like total commander (the stock file exploer may work). go to where you have the .exe storied and copy it. then go to windows/start menu/programs and just paste the .exe there. you can now launch it from the programs list. and when you use tf3d to add a program to the launcher it should show up. hope this helps
