Just installed the official update from HTC site (Sweden). Major difference in performance now. Some things i noticed so far:
- Contacts now scrolling smooth, before it would stutter bad.
- All lists scroll smother, including the standard Android lists.
- Lock screen animation smoother.
- All screen transitions seem smother as well, esp the one that appears when you press the "phone" button. Would skip and stutter for me before, now it animates each time.
- phone seem to starts up faster.
- Sense UI of course scrolling smoother and without stutter.
- Entire OS just feels smoother and snappier.
-Pictures in album scrolling much smoother.
- Camera update, you can choose focus point by touching screen and you can set ISO.
Really good update, im actually suprised of how much work seems to have gone into it.
If only HTC had done this when the phone was released, instead of as usual releasing it buggy and receiving bad reviews from the media. Good things though i guess is that from now on the upcoming phones will be superior. Hope they will work on marketing so the general user will notice android, now that the OS is fast, pretty and smooth(which seems to be what the "normal" user , i.e my dad and all his friends, cares about).
This is going to get really interesting, with iPhone 3.1 not being jailbroken it may be a real opportunity for the Hero to offer a credible alternative.
I left WM 2 months ago for an iPhone and am really enjoying the experience but am concerned about iPhone vulnerability at the moment with no JB solution. Luckily I have my work provided Hero in case my iPhone becomes locked.

When in the Browser, if you rotate to landscape and press the search button, does the keyboard star jumping and the notification bar start flashing?

And yes, the keyboard and notification bar does jump when in landscape in browser. never noticed that before.
i've just updated using the nordic ROM. All my original languages (I'm Dutch) were present and available in the setup wizard. I don't understand the release of a 'nordic rom'. All languages I had used before are still available. And I have no nordic languages available. Apparantly the update didn't delete your previous languages.
The Hero is now super fast! Faster than my iPhone 3G. Excellent!!!
well, i bought a Dutch Hero, applied that WWE original rom and the WWE leaked update and still had "English (Netherlands)" and other original ones on the language selection screen :/ wish i knew can i kill it and make it WWE :/
I'm running an official release of this update (my device came back from repair and the service center reflashed my device with this new rom)
I agree with the speed improvements.
What I did notice, and I didn't have this problem with the old firmware, was some network problems. A few times a day I get a pop up screen saying I have a network problem and I should try again (both on Wifi and 3G) however, my laptop and my iPhone (all on the same WiFi network) run fine at the exact same time. When I switch the Sim card my iPhone doesn't have network problems but when I switch back my Hero is complaining again. The problem always solves itself again after a few minutes.

Yes it does. It does the same when in portrait mode too.
I know I am not the one you asked but I wanted to check if I could confirm your observation.
I am using the official RUU.

Confirmed again. it jumps up and down when you type and the status bar flashes.
Also i just noticed the camera app is improved alot. you can chose focus points by touching the screen. niice.

can someone test the youtube widget see if you can actually signout now?nasty bug that beens annoying the hell out of me.
Apart from the speed issue, two main problems that many people are facing are:
1) The blurring/pixelating of the contact pics when calling or being called. This looks really ugly!
2) Thumbnails not being generated by the Albums app in certain SD cards, especially microSDHC 8GB class 6 cards, thus making the photo-veiwing experience not so great. It apparently is the same for MCR 2.2. However, works alright with the original 2GB class 2 card that comes with the phone.
Could those of you who have installed and played with the new ROM update or any other newer/custom ROM, please comment of these issues and whether they have been ressolved or not?

I'm not having the problem in portrait mode, only in landscape mode in the Browser app

1 seems to be solved
2 there is still a problem, my hero stops the album process (com.htc.album) when it tries to create thumbnails of about 40'000 jpg files on the 8GB

So I've been hearing a lot of talk about a spanish dev that dropped a rom on these forums that is faster than Super D, FastTEst, Cyan, all the eclairs and Stock roms,.....basically, top of the line and untouchable.

I never thought i'd see the day a rom could get me off SuperD but well all I can say is 'Super who?'
Supsetup is an amazing feature here and has full swap/swappiness controls that work. Compcache is available through spare parts (currently not working) not that either are required. When you first start there is a lot of spanish things such as the widgets an has a spanish metamorph but titanium restore took care of that, even restoring my apn settings for me. the speed of the app draw is scary and somehow advanced launcher is built into the home itself. Also this has NO ramhack on it so 3d gaming is fast and furious if your into that. going to install beholdII 3D cube as well to see how it runs as it was slow and sluggish on SuperD and will update when I have more news.
All I can say is welcome to the future of the G1!

Everything seems to be working but the keyboard ALT symbols are different
on the keyboard, bluetooth, wifi, 3g, messaging, everything really! No force closures or problems, sometimes can stutter a little going to home but other than that this thing really is amazing. Had me up all night playing on it. I feel if compcache was working this would solve the stutter problem but still playing with settings.
Will update more as I play.
Okay fixed the keyboard layout, wasn't to hard to figure out and now have full UK qwerty keyboard with the correct ALT character set, anyone needs it I'll post a tutorial.
Also Fix_Permissions is a MUST! I was having a few issuse installing third party apps at first but this is now working thanks to the script.
I've found it best to keep home apps out of memory (spare parts) still working on the compcache problem but hoping to have that fixed soon.

Also found to cut the home screen lag enable swap with 30 swapiness.
Once I have all the kinks worked out I'll learn about how to pack it all up for people to download
Will be a private link as its not my rom so won't be posting in developement.

I didn't I just restored a titanium backup
You could just enter the settings manually, easy to do.
which version did u install? the first one 1.3? because the newer one dont seem to have supsetup and might not be as fast but the older one there was a bunch of issues including sms

I managed to sign in with google from the wifi at the library, but Google talk wouldn't sign in, so everything I downloaded from market was just at a pause....back home now, adb pushed a copy of Titanium back to phone since market wouldn't let me download, now restoring all apps and data with batch proccess, but there is still no data signal???not even edge, after restoring all settings with Titanium and rebooting should that bring data back?
EDIT: by the way you're right, this rom is smoking fast! Twice as fast as super d, if I get the internet working, Im sticking with this rom for a while!
Alright! That did it.....whewww..thank goodness for Titanium backup!
Everything is in place, internet back, settings, and apps restored. now to enjoy the luxurious speed this rom has to offer

Type in your providers name, phone and the words apn settings into google, there are plenty of sites that hold the information

I plan to install the new official ROM and then do a full restore from a Sprite backup that I will have done while on the old ROM.
Will that work
Do I need to do anything different with Sprite or is it just a normal restore

I wouldn't advise that...
Just go ahead and perform the usual steps of "starting fresh."
It's not worth risking any system "tainting" that could occur in the process of another system recovery from a different ROM image.
Besides, if you don't think the update is worth performing in the first place, stick with your current setup.

Most everyone that has provided a testimony for "TmoNews" has suggested that only improvements are noticed... nothing negative to report.
I would suggest that you CLEAR/CLEAN the RAM after the installation. Use a program such as Memory Maid to run a few system maintenance diagnostics.
Otherwise, give this "new" ROM time to "settle" on your device. 24-hour tests are usually the best idea.
I have installed the new ROM. Things are very similar to way they were before. Didn't feel HD2 getting faster or slower. However, I have a strange problem now: Right now I don't have a data plan so I'm using my WiFi connection to get to the internet. One of the first apps I installed after flashing the new ROM is Omarket. Few hours ago, i.e. before flashing the ROM, Omarket was working fine but now it cannot connect to internet! Opera mobile works fine though (I downloaded Omarket with it!). There are other strange things going on as well: I have an MS exchange account. I can sync my emails over WiFi but contacts do not get synced! It seems that somehow some programs can use WiFi and some others cannot. Couldn't figure out what's going on yet...
Any changelog ?

Here are a few changes that I've noticed since upgrading to this ROM yesterday evening:
The HTC Sense menus no longer have the "snap back" feature.
The overall screen sensitivity has been increased.
HTC Peep, the standard Twitter client appears to be completely removed.
The lock screen no longer "stutters" (on occasion) during the "slide to unlock."
Upgraded radio, including the version number.
Upgraded ROM, including the build number.
"T-Mobile Help," the micro-forums application has been included.
"My Account" has been included, with a more "feature-rich" experience.
"Swype" now has HAPTIC FEEDBACK, whereas my version of Swype did NOT prior to this update.

I saw on the Freeware Pocket PC twitter that they where having problems with the OMarket, Maybe this is what you where experiencing. Did the regular market work?
Haptic feedback on Swype.... interesting.
How well does Swype work for holding down a key to get the alternate symbol (like numbers & punctuation). On mine you can hold if down for days and never get the popup - I had to install version 2 to make it work.
BTW - I think I like the layout for version 2's symbols better, especially the numbers, but might be interesting to try out this Rom after enough people give feedback on it.
Missing Twitter tab would be... odd.
Why is this release coming from a HTC web site rather than T-Mo? I'm thinking of upgrading but dread going back through all the settings.

This problem appears to have been fixed in the new ROM.
One thing I noticed is that the new T-Mobile Help app hooks into the dialer and hijacks attempts to dial 611. Dialing 611 brings up the help app and then eventually the phone may dial 611 itself later.
The whole effect is... bizarre and unwelcome.
I cant get the My account or Help application to work. When I click the icon it shows me the initial screen and says "the my account application will be downloaded shortly" and just sits there. Did I somehow mis-flash the rom? I can't imagine this is the case.

Because the phone was created and manufactured by HTC. Just like Apple releases the updates for its iPhone; not AT&T.

I have the same
my account application works fine on my hd2. overall, the updated rom seems to run a lot smoother. however, i still get the lag in sms but the freezing issues (to the point where i had to take out the battery once or every other day during sms) seem to be gone.

With the first semi stable builds of android for our beloved cat i had no issues with STK (i need it to recharge my pay-as-you-go sub). In the last builds it's not working at all. I guess it's a package wich is not included in the builds available now. I'm a bit uncertain wether or not it worked with the Sense builds, but i've tried so many i've lost track. I'm now using mattc N1 stock Froyo (I think!) or at least a clean Froyo with a very fresh kernel.
Any thoughts out there?
I rarely make new threads, but hope i won't get flamed (since some members are generally quite hostile these days because of the noob-flood)

go to settings ,applications ,manage apps ,all, then search for it , then choose force stop then refresh your app menue , and now it will apper

any updates on this? I'm having the same problem, now with the Gingerbread release. I need the STK to switch my sim cards (Magic Sim 26th 3G cut adapter), I can get into the menu, but the menu itself doesn't work.
For example, when I press Sim2 (to switch to sim 2) I see the "busy symbol" (circle of dots), but nothing happens.
I tried the above tip, but still nothing..
I recently upgraded my Atrix to GB 2.3.4 (official 4.5.91) and found that the SMS/MMS settings has changed. I could not find the option "Delivery report" anymore. And my phone now always indicates the pending (a clock) icon on side of every outgoing sms, though it really has been delivered already.
Anyone else got this problem? Is this a bug from GB 2.3.4 from Google or Motorola??
Pls someone check this for me?

Hi there. Ever since i upgraded to gingerbread, i have been having some sms delivery problems as well. My messages take time to be delivered and received sometimes.

The delivery report option was missing for me since the beginning. I never had it in Froyo
It works fine in 2.2.2 and now after 2.3.4 OTA update its gone - no app can turn it on. I tryed to edit settings.mkitso from 0 to 1 (turn on SMS delivery) even try to use special characters but no way to get delivery report even in such apps like headcent sms and go sms which are used own settings for this option. Looks like it kernel or radio based thing that just filter off delivery reports! ((
Yeah, I spent rather much time to search and try some solutions to fix but failed to all.
So, now its really a bug from new kernel, I think.
I just created this thread to collect confirmations from people and hope Moto or developers fix it soon

I'm using Cherryblur 1.4d and checking the settings, it doesn't have the options to send sms reports.
Besides that my messages is ok.
of course its not it stock sms messaging - any third side apps - headcent sms or GoSMS have this flag.
I tried different versions of radio module -it doesn't solve the problem.
I'd like to bump this again, really miss this feature.
Please can a dev look into it and find out what's missing from the GB roms. Thanks.

Yeah, just noticed the same problem as well. Atrix on 2.3.4 (pre-installed), rooted. No delivery reports for me, using GoSMS pro.

Sorely missing this.. I don't get any types of confirmation anymore.. It really sucks when you are in a fight with your girlfriend....
Even if It sends.... and I long press on it, there is only a message details option, no delivery or read report anymore... WTF??
I am using CM7.1 on an HTC Glacier (MyTouch 4G). I am going to download a nightly of CM and see if this fixes it at all.

I've just found the fix for this bug in the HomeBase rom of Seanzcreams by his descriptions, but I dont test it yet. Someone who using this rom can confirm to me abiut this issue? Does it work?
