First of all I live in the US and my magic is from the UK. There is no option on the phone to change my location to the US, only other European countries. As a result shop savy shows results in pounds instead of USD, same with some of the apps in the market, anyone know a fix?

Hope I put this in the right area.
I will be traveling to the Czech Republic this July and am wanting to use my unlocked TMobile MDA (US) while there. I have looked at a couple of the carriers for plans that may fit my needs but I am not entirly sure I understand how exactly they work.
So here is what I am looking for. I will be there for 2 weeks. I am needing limited cell, mostly data. I am planning on using the data for VOIP built in to WM6 connected to my Asteriks server if possible. If I can't get that working I will be using the data as a modem to connect via soft phone. I was looking in to Pay AS You Go type services but with the terminology - tariffs? - I got a little confused. Now if data won't work for me obviously I will need more cell mins.
Can anyone help fill me in on what I might be looking for? I know of only 3 carriers for the country so am thinking my choices are limited - TMobile, O2 and Vodofone.
not sure about Czech Republic
but many places you can just buy a prepaid sim
with various amounts on in a convientstore or supermarket
and use it in any phone
Right, I have read up and understand that pre paid is the way to go, but does this normally include data service as well. And is there a service more reliable than the other. Just because I use TMobile in the US doesn't mean I will have the same luck with them out there so I will go with whoever seems to have the best service\price.
I used my UK tmobile pay as you go for data in Switzerland and France last february. It worked fine and wasn't all that expensive as far as I remember. I just collected andsent email a couple of times a day though and I used about £10 in a week.
Yes, all 3 Czech carriers (TMobile, O2, Vodofone) sell prepaid SIM cards, and I think that all of them support data/internet services (at least GPRS/EDGE). Vodafone's prices are 0,68 CZK/kB for WAP and 0,060 CZK/kB for generic internet (which is what you are interested in, I guess), other carriers' prices are probably very similar.
With O2 there is prepaid data nonstop tarif, it supports also 3G. Just go to one of O2 shops, some of them may speak english
I second the o2 suggestion. I recently took the train to Praha CR and my 02 dervice did not let me down. Problem sometimes with prepaid is they want to see documents...like residency requirements..at least here in Germany. I would get a calling card and call ahead...things like that can throw everything off.
no problem to buy prepaid card anywhere, no documents needed. you can buy it on most petrol stations, post offices - everywhere. I will give you further info about pricing as soon as i recieve it...
nocturne lives in Czech Republic so I would avoid going there.
So, i made some search about current situation.
t-mobile is the best fitting solution for you.
They offer prepaid sim card called "Twist Internet" - for 850CZK (about 35USD), you can use unlimited data connection (GPRS, EDGE or G4)
this card can be bought in every t-mobile shop, there are many of these shops in all cities larger than 10000 habitants - so it's almost everywhere.
you need no papers to buy this card, if yu will not spend another 850CZK, it simply will not work after a month, no more payments necessary.
Calling pricing is hard to choose. It depends on how much will you call and where. Try to specify it better...
If you have more questions, feel free to contact me...
vlodeck: shut up you polish freak
nocturne: ukrainian to be more exact
Hello,
I have bought the phone on ebay.com. And my network provider is Vodafone India.
I try to connect to Google Maps by activating GPS in my mobile, but nothing comes up.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Smthakur
If you're in India, This could be just a simple fix in google maps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887
Try that. It allows international maps for google maps. That's all I can think of to help.
All I can figure, is that the previous owner lived in the united states, so google maps was configured to america, but the link above will help you get it internationally. I hope this helps.
Hi
Just had my HD2 stolen this afternoon.
I will be on flight to Hong Kong tomorrow evening.
The phone was bought sim free in UK and not insured so can't claim for replacement.
Anyway, I just want to know:
1. I live in London and is there any shops that I can buy a new sim free one from tomorrow (Monday)?
2. If 1 is not possible and I bought one from Hong Kong, would it be an Asia HD2 version or there is just one version globally? If it is Asia HD2, does it have English language and can you still use programs like CHT Home Tab/Editor, BsB Tweaks it?
3. I use the phone to receive my emails. Is there any chance the login password could be retrieved by whoever stolen it?
4. Can whoever stolen my phone still receive my emails even I have barred the SIM card?
Thanks!
If you used Microsoft My Phone app on your HD2 you can use it to possibly locate your phone. Just go to myphone.microsoft.com and log in with your Windows Live or MSN account wich ever one hou used for yhe Microsoft My Phome app.
Ic you by another HD2 there in Hong Kong it will more than likely be the Asian model HD2 and I think it does have english as one of the languages. You would also be abale to use all the apps you mentioned in your post. Just be careful if you do purchase one there as it is a lot of clone/fake HD2 being sold there and on the internet from there. But wih you have had a real HD2 you know how it should look and all. The fake ones look different.
Who ever stole your phone shouldn't be abale to get your passwords a.d if you have barred tbe sim card they will not be abale to use your sim card to make calls and such. They will have to sim unlock it to even be able to put another sim card in it to use with another carrier.
just adding on to what T-Macgnolia mentioned above. if you have the original box of your hd2 then it would have the imei. you can call your network provider and have the phone blocked completely. though of course it doesn't guarantee that you'll get your phone back, but at least the jerk who took it can't use the phone. it'll be a media player and a gps but as far as the phone app, it'll be blocked. normally your network carrier will pass on your imei to other network providers for blocking (at least i assume this'll be what happens as it's what's done here in australia).
- as mentioned above, just make sure you buy a genuine hd2 and not the clone. if you happen to stumble across one with a front cam or 2 sim card capabilities, it's a clone.
- definitely your emails are safe once your sim card is blocked
cheers

Will try that. Hopefully Vodafone would do it even though it was not their branded HD2.
Just got off the phone with Vodafone - they said they couldn't do it.
Oh well, just have to be more careful in the future. This is the 1st time that I had a phone stolen since my Motorola MicroTAC II in the early 90's!
They can't do it because (I'm assuming) you didn't buy it from them. Ring o2 and they'll probably be able to block the IMEI and blacklist it. That's assuming you bought it from them too obviously.

just my 2 cents: sorry as i forgot to mention this bit
before i got my hd2 i was using a touch pro 2. it was stolen in my previous office (yeah the jerk works in the same place as i did). anyway, i called up my network provider (telstra) and they also said they couldn't lock my phone. however, i googled locking the imei and came up with yet another customer service line that was independent to telstra. so i reported my imei and it took a few seconds for the guy on the phone to say "ah, there it is." he then confirmed it was now locked.
played around with google and found this site:

not sure if this applies to you mate as you're in london while i'm in australia. but hope that helps.
cheers

Get one from a big reputable stores like Fortress, Broadway, Chung Yuan, etc. Make sure they have the QTS logo. Emphasis you want an English edition. The box should read "HTC HD2 T8585 (WWE)".
However, I don't think you would get international warranty.
I supposed you have already changed your passwords. Even then, he can still read the mails that are already downloaded.
HD2 in HK are using Asia/Europe bands:
3G: 900/2100
2G: 850/900/1800/1900
Should be the same as in UK.
Well, I went to lots of shops and finally found one that sold it - most other shops said the HD2 was unpopular and been discontinued for awhile. It was an Asian model and I asked if they could change it to English which they did. Had it for nearly 2 weeks now with no problems and all for £240 which was a great deal.
Incidentely I looked a copy version from China - put my SIM card in and it jammed...
Hi, I remember when I had Galaxy S2, there was a mod or something, that let me know what country my telephone was connected to.
Issue: Live in Sweden, work in Denmark, and the net is so tightly bound that I can't tell if i'm connected to Swedish or Danish network.
So, when you pull down the status...thingie, I used to see "3 Sweden" or "3 Denmark", depending on country I was connected to, so, Please help me with this.
Here in Norway they have mobile subscripsions that has the same price no matter where you are in Norden (Sverige, Danmark, Norge, Island og Finland). Maybe that can help if there is an issue for you that the price gets higher when you cross the Øresund? NetCom is a Norwegian company, but owned by Swedish Telia.
Check here: https://netcom.no/
That is not the issue, the issue is the net quality
Ok, so, I'we googled high and low, all I found is a app that let you change _YOUR_ carrier ID (see attached pic), but I want the top line, that in the pic shows as "3", to rather show carrier and country, like "3 DK".
There was eighter a modem or mod for the Galaxy S2 that showed this info, and I thought it was Aswhopping nice to have.
But i'm not sure if it was with Incognition mod or if it was a fluke accsident when I tried to install a Nightly CM that failed....
But, I want that info on the Note, so....what to do?
Is there no one that has any idea on this issue?
Is there any way I can download Samsung pay in the uk, I have tried downloading the app but when I touch start it just spins a circle for a second.
restart your phone go back to play store sometimes it just geta stuck going in circles this shouldnt have been a post cuz its not really a problem....you could have just Googled the solution
No it is in circles due to Samsung pay not being in the uk and was wondering whether there is a way around this, sorry for the missunderstanding
where are you from.... if you think thats your problem use your PayPal account for authorised payments or make a new google acc one that works with uk currency
if it shows your home town currency link it to your uk bank acc and make a purchase it will change
Why would you want to download it when it does not even work in the uk
I read in a review it worked on a holiday in Europe
