I have a slight problem with my Vodafone GPRS settings. Whenever I try and connect to the internet on my phone, it now hijacks my actual phone connection.
I also can't connect to my internet when I'm on the phone. Slightly confused as to why this is happening =(
Before, the internet used to bring up a seperate connection in the notification manager. Now, it takes over my phone, so I can't actually receive calls when I'm on the internet =s
Any help would be great
sounds like you've got it connecting to WAP
It should be connected most of the time to "contract internet"

Hey sorry,
I'm based in the UK
Ok. With my internet connected to the Contract Internet, I can make calls and be on the net, but my Vodafone UK signal icon is gone from notifications. Yesterday it was still there when I was connected to the contract internet =s

Hi,
I am using a Orange SPV M1000 on vodafone sim. This month I got a bill of more than £60.00 for calls being made to a number +44 7973100500. Now I think this number is for connection to Orange WAP services.
I want to disable this. I have already deleted the phone numbers to the Orange CSD WAP, Orange WAP, Orange GPRS and Orange MMS.
I have also selected under settings -> Network management 'Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:' to 'My ISP'.
Even after changing these settings I am still being billed for the above said number.
Can anybody please help me out ASAP.
Thanks and regards,
RAJ
Have you tried removing all connections under settings/connections?

Thanks for your reply, I spoke to Orange today and I think I have now removed all the Orange connections from the settings.
The problem however also lies to the fact that it has connect to WAP all this time without my knowledge. I neither browse the internet from the PDA not have I got email setup on this PDA. I think, it always has connected to the Orange WAP after a soft reset. Orange seems to ignore this fact, saying that I am now with Vodafone so it is not their problem. Where as vodafone does not want to take the responsibility as it is not one of their phones.
The other problem is that, I cannot find out whether this phone is still connecting to the Orange WAP without my knowledge. Vodafone (rather singlepoint) can not find this out untill it is billed and it is too late by then. So, I end up paying a long bill. Its really annoying.
Is there anyway I can double check whether it is indeed connected when I soft reset it? Tried using IE but it says that you are not connected to internet.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks
Rajiv
I tried to use Wifi in a cafe, the wireless lan manager show connected to network, buy when i open IE, my PDA always trying to connect with GPRS service. the wifi seems not working, and i could not open a web page.
could some one tell me what should i do
try picking another network in
system connections connections advanted
pick something other then my isp or what ever the gprs connection is called
hi! thx for reply
i tried today in starbucks, but the GPRS seems still comes up, i picked up my work network, tap edit, there are only three option, 1, auto pick 2, O2 active
3, WAP network
when i open IE, it always inform me, connect to O2 active, then Dialed: Then answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection setting and change them if needed, tap setting.
the wifi connection is realy confuse me, dose any one know how to connect to internet in a cafe or airport??
When you've got wifi enabled make sure that Settings->Connections->Network Cards has My Network Card connects to "The Internet".
Many of you on this bb has a problem that GPRS doesn't re-connect and you have to reset or turn flight mode on/off to get connected again.
Here is what I did and mine has now been working for 3-4 weeks as it should be working. Shows to me that none of the software like Wisbar, Pocket Plus etc is causing it.
In SETTINGS/CONNECTIONS, under CONNECTIONS I have My ISP and My Work Network. Under both I used to have WAP, where it will use GPRS to connect. I have deleted the WAP GPRS option under My Work Network, to have nothing under Modem Connection, I only have WAP GPRS under My ISP in the Modem Connection.
Also, I used to have my work's settings in VPN, which I have also taken out. When I activesync via GPRS, my phone used to connect to the GPRS server and then tried to connect to VPN. After that I couldn't re-connect with GPRS.
After I have done the above, my phone now connects flawlessly everytime using the actievsync mobile schedule and when connecting manually.
O yes, I also run GB-Soft's GPRS tweak which can be found at http://www.GB-Soft.cz/XDAII
Well I was very sceptical about this. But I too deleted the WAP settings under Work and in the last month I haven't been unable to connect once.
So either this works or O2 have solved a problem with their network (I did not have the problem last winter in Singapore, Malaysia, or Australia iirc.)
The only other difference to my setup is that I now use Activesync 4.2 rather than 3.x
I am on Vodacom in South Africa, and what I have done above works for me. I only reboot my phone now to clear memory to free up some or when I need to run my GPS software, then I reboot to give it as much memory as possible.
I posted a solution that works for me, use, don't use it, up to you.
Hey, I was saying thanks - I believe it works

Sorry, my mistake, this part was confusing, as it looks like you couldn't connect.
Yes,
"I have always been able to connect first time" would have been a lot better than the double negative
Hi,
I have had a search to see if this has been covered before but maybe I am using the wrong query.
I have an O2 Exec with the latest O2 Rom, and now when I do an email send and receive, the GPRS connection stays up. Whereas I could have sworn in the earlier ROM it disconnected after the send/receive.
I spoke to O2 and they assured me that it is supposed to do that, and since I only get charged for actaul data transfer, I can sit connected to GPRS all day for free (is this correct).
Now, my main question is. Say GPRS is up and connected, and I turn on WIFI or plug into my PC using the charger/sync cable and then do a send and receive. Will the Exec use these free connections or still route data over the GPRS?
I did a test and it looked as though when I did this, the GPRS connection was shut down, as after a send/receive and then disable WIFI, the connection setting showed a large U and not the connected icon.
I am now sitting with a GPRS connection active, email is set to manual and I have Pocket Weather set to 'Auto update on connection' and 'Auto update on Active Sync', but 'Use connection manager' is disabled as is 'Force a connect when not available'.
Should this mean that no data is used at all and that I can sit connected at no cost.
Sorry for the long rambling post, but I am a complete newbie to all this GPRS pda thing.

/Mad
related question - how to stop gprs connecting automatically
My wifi router at home is dodgy and sometimes the signal drops - this means my exec switches over automatically to GPRS (I'm not in a 3G area) and starts whacking up a big data bill before I realise. Is there anyway of getting it to ask me if I want to connect to GPRS - rather than it just telling me thats what its doing? Can't turn the phone off cos I still need to receive calls.
I did think of just scarmbling my connection settings, but now I've upgraded to the latest O2 rom the connections settings page does not show any existing connections! (I also can't get TomTom to run at all now but I guess I'll work through that one :-( )
Thanks,
John
I believe this is what you are looking for. Y
ou can set which connections programs use for thier internet access in Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Advanced, Select Networks.
Choosing My Work Network or My ISP should stop programs sucking up your money.
Thanks PReDiToR I've tried that but it then gives me a 'cannot connect' popup instead of using the wifi - it seems as if there has to be an accessible gprs connection for it to ignore before it will try wifi :-o
What does everyone else do? Maybe you're all rich or the company pays for your data?
Thanks
Any luck yet with the GPRS / WiFi issue?? I have got the sam

Derrr...
EDIT: Hey I've just read what I've written below and its exavctly what Preditor suggested - funny didn't work when I tried ........ I guess it was because I was trying 'My ISP' without gprs settings - which complained - whereas 'My Work Network' without gprs settings allows the wifi to connect ... :?
I've now got a workaround for this - means going through the menus every time I DO want GPRS data - but thats rare till I get a better contract which will have to wait till my 12 months with O2 is up in November.. web'n'walk sounds good - unlimited gprs :-o - (could T-Mobile really tell when I was using my XDa as a modem for my laptop - which is forbidden in the terms of this contarct - and when I was just usng data for its own programs - which is allowed ??)
Anyway what I do is settings>connections>advanced>Select Networks> choose My Work Network for programs connecting to the internet. I have no gprs settings in My Work Network but it connects to wifi no problem.
So when I forget and I'm out of wifi range I get an error that it can't connect, so change the setting back to 'MY ISP' and GPRS kicks in.
A Today Screen shortcut to the Network Management screen would help - but I'm almost always using wifi so I haven't bothered.

Hey guys. Im in the united kingdom and ive been using my tmobile locked hd2 from since december. I used goldcard to change to unbranded 1.48 rom. I used to use the wifi router with my tmob chip and had no issues whatsoever.
I just unlocked the hd2 today so I can use my orange sim card. My 3G internet works fine but when I try to use the wifi router it just gets stuck on "connecting to Orange WAP". It seems as if the router is trying to use a Wap connection for some reason and it isnt initialising. My orange settings are called "Orange Internet" and I have no idea where "Orange Wap" comes from. I tried to search and destroy these wap settings but they are nowhere to be seen.
Has anyone ever experienced this issue and/or come accross a solution?
Cheers guys
It usualy gives you the option of all the different network connections available as a choice. You will probably find however that the WAP one is hidden under a Decision Making proxy in advanced network settings if yo have a look.
Have a look there (settings/network/connections/advanced) and see what's in there and let us know.
thanks for your reply. I checked out all the advanced settings but the WAP settings are not present. The wifi router only has one connection for "orange wap". I cannot select anything else.
Most odd, Could always try creating a new connection in the connection settings using the correct network APN settings and see if that option is offered to you in the app. Not ideal, but should work fine, just created a dummy one on my phone, and it's listed in the choices.
tthanks for the tip. I just added 2 extra connections but none of them show up under my wireless router options. I only get one choice in teh radio button selection area and that is "Orange WAP".
I even tried to delete all my connections to see if Orange WAP would dissapear but its still there.
