Is there a way to play SWF files? - G1 General

Heya
Is there way to see/play SWF files on the dream?
So far non of the browsers support it and there is no app in the market.
Hope that there is a way.
Thanks in advanceearch.php?searchid=23286600

either you've only had your G1 a few days or you really don't pay attention to the hundreds of threads in any or the dream subforums. we do not have a flash player and we have no idea when one will be released. there is a market app to play swf from your sdcard but nothing else.

yea I have it for a few days, and I used the search to find SWF/Flash posts with no succes.

Video on WMP

I'm having some trouble. . .
On my Wing, it seems that it wont really play any of the videos I store on my SD card. I've got maybe 300 gigs of media on my box, and I realize that the device supports 3GP, MP4, and AVI files, though I have no idea what versions of those extensions will play.
I have tried converting file types, file strengths (encoding, etc) to no avail. At one point I condensed an episode from my Robot Chicken DVD (picked for hilarity as well as small file size) and though the file was say, 50 MB on the computer (and played using WMP), and 50MB on the phone, it only played and scrolled as if the file was 5 seconds long on the phone.
Just like the blackberry, I assume there is a converter, or something I am otherwise missing here. All I really want to be able to do is to take a DVD, or take a file I've created, found, unearthed while deep-sea diving, etc, and play it on my Wing.
Where do I start?
EXTRA BONUS QUESTION: I installed Opera Mini as an alternative browser in root, which I now realize is IMPOSSIBLE to access. I believe a memory wipe should cure that. Would it be accessable if I store it on say, the SD card? Through file manager maybe?

Media player sucks for viewing any type of video on your phone. I suggest you install TCPMP and you should be fine. Do a search on the forum and you should find it pretty easy. As far as your Opera Mini Question....you should be able to run it from your SD card just fine.
Much appreciated, roman, I had figured it would be something like that. Glad to be rid of WMP too.
Clarifying question: How do I play the files through TCPMP? Ive tried from the file itself in file manager and it tries to launch WMP. I dont see a "file > open" type pathway within TCPMP itself.
What am I missing there?
add the file to it's playlist

There is actually a open tab thing in TCPMP, on the botton control bar in the player, click on the first tab from the left and in there there is the open option. And if you want the files to automatically open with TCPMP when you acces them from the file explorer etc. then you go to the TCPMP sttings and then to file associations. IN there select the files that you want to be asociated with TCPMP, and i think after a soft reset, they will automatically be opened with TCPMP.

Downloads failing

I've been wondering for a while now about why when downloading music or videos through the browser that it fails and say something along the lines of "can't download file. file type is not supported." i'm downloading mp3 files and mp4 files in the right format so y do they not work? ne answers are appreciated.
Not really a fix at all but Steel browser will download anything.
At the moment the browser can only download files that your G1 can actually open... although mp3 and mp4 files should be ok. Weird.
Use Steel as mentioned above until it is fixed.
I still cant download videos from sites like ::cough::ifap::cough:: Even tho they are mp4 it just says "file cannot download" even tho I'm using the latest updated version of Steel
Someone just started a thread about T-mobile putting some sort of content filter on their account whereas they could not access porn sites or adult oriented sites. My account definitely didn't have this "feature" activated, so I'm not speaking from experience, but you might look into it. I've never heard of such a thing, but I guess it would make sense on a family plan or a teenager plan perhaps. Anyways, he states that in order to deactivate it you need to call T-mobile. I've never had steel give me any errors while downloading a file, and I've downloaded a lot of different filetypes using it (including mp3s and mp4s). Anyways, I know it sounds strange, but you might give it a shot.
Have you tried downloading it on your computer?

HTC Wildfire

I've JUST got this phone and I'm having problems with the playback of downloaded videos. Either the sound is there and there's no playback or there's playback but no sound .... do i need to convert the file before download and if so what's the best download site to use?? I've tried quite a few sites with no luck at all .... just the same problem over and over. Also, is it possible to have an MP3 as an alarm/message tone? I've searched the phone and cant see the option anywhere and the booklet/leaflet that comes with it Isn't really much use, I've had to download the full instruction book to get my head around it, lol.
Good morning. Allow me to suggest that you edit the title for a phrase more telling. Thanks.

Video files must be mp4, wmv or 3gp but you can pay for yxflash or download wuzhenhua player i think to allow you to play avi's etc. The current version of rockplayer doesn't work with this device.
As for MP3 alarms, create a folder on your sd root called media and in that a folder called audio and finally a folder in audio called alarms. This is were you place your mp3's and they will appear in the alarm settings.
So the folder order from the sd card root is media>audio>alarms>yourmp3here.mp3
If you already have music on your device you can use astrofilemanager from the app store to create the folders without having to plug your phone to the pc
Sorry the playback license is not valid
I got this phone 3 months back . i purchased some realtones from a popular website and it downloaded successfully (the content is forward locked applied content). while play the content i got "Sorry the playback license is not valid" message.
Can you please help me on this.
Thnx
The two players where can i find them? I tried by google but did not get the latest app.

Help me find a game like Blow Up, Crush The Castle or iDemolish please

Hello!
Once again trying to find a windows game similar to an android game my wife likes so that she does not ask me to sell the Tilt 2.
Regards
crush the castle exists as a flash game if I remember correctly. If you can go to a site hosting that game and play it in Pocket IE, then you should be able to use a firefox extension to extract the swf file and play it as a standalone on your phone. there is a tutorial on playing flash files from your device somewhere on these forums if you are having problems with it.

Interesting...never heard of this so need to do some more research.
Thanks!
I think this is the thread I was thinking of, though there are some others:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6268322#post6268322
on down in the tread are the specific instructions:
1) you save the .swf file to your phone.
2) you open the folder that contains the swf file with resco file explorer
3) you click continusly in the swf file until the sub menu show in the screen. then choose OPEN--->OPEN WITH
4) then click browse and choose there the program from the folder "program files/adobe/Flashlite/appzone.exe". then you are ready
5) now every swf file that you open in resco explorer will play automatically.

Flash Player running local swf files

Hello, everyone! I'm in the lengthy process of migrating all of my data/apps over from my Galaxy Note running CM10.1 to my now-rooted S4, and i've noticed a peculiar issue.
On my Note, i have the latest apk of Adobe's Flash Player installed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1848508) and this app installed to handle swf files. I have a giant collection of swf files from around the internet, mostly small loops, and keep them in my Dropbox, and on my Note, i can pull any of them up and play them using this app.
However, on my S4, the swf files behave very oddly. They'll only play the first frame of the animation and then the app will hang and crash, and not just that one app, but the top three swf players on the Play store all have this same issue (all three work fine on my Note). But, in spite of that, the files play fine if i open them in Firefox or Boat,
I'm assuming this has to do with the fact that the S4 is running a stock rom, and the Note is running Cyanogenmod, but what do you guys think? The versions are all the same, of Flash Player and the SWF players, across both devices, and both devices are running 4.2.2
Yea thats a good question. I think it needs answers. So !bump .
Could it be the graphics chip?

More than likely not, because the flash files render fine in Firefox. I have a feeling that it's the fact that the rom is odexed, or another side effect of touchwiz
swf on S4, major PITA
I've resisted the urge to register this forum in the past but this particular thread is of great importance for me. Please tell me you found a solution to this problem (the exact one I'm having). At least did you manage to exclude some reasons if not find the culprit?
Thank you!
Looks like you already know android no longer supports flash. I have a different device and I have a similar issue. Flash works fine on cm but not the stock os. I nandroid between the two if I need to use flash player.

Thank you! ...Then CyanogenMod is written on my S4.
Tested swf player
I've tested both SWF Player & Smart Flash Player on CM with *swf files. It works in the sense that you can see swf movies/cartoons with very little interaction. However, games that have much interaction are not playable because the pointer behaves strangely (auto double clicks, doesn't click at all if you do it too rapid etc.)
I'll try some tweaks and come back later to tell you if it's OK. If you have some tips please don't hesitate to tell me.
Has someone tried the above software for Android 4.3 for S4 Google Edition?
My conclusions (?)
OK, so here's what I did:
I've put the Android 4.3 Deodexed version, installed the *swf player and tried to play games once again.
The behavior was identical with that on CM: jittery, too sensitive in some cases and not enough sensitive in others. I've tested about a dozen games ranging from adult to survival, RPG, room escape on SWF player and Smart Flash Player.
For example as soon as you touch the screen inside a game the screen can go wild, scrolling too much in one direction. Also, if there are line of dialogue in a game that you skip by tap you may press only once to see that you skipped 2 or 3 lines of dialog. When you select an object to see its options you see just a flash of the options and you are sent back. When you have to tap rapidly it doesn't work: you have to do it slow so it can be interpreted. Also, some flash cartoons lag much more than they did on my S1.
To manage this I have installed 3 touch-screen tweaking programs. As the option were numerous I had not time to try them all but the results were more or less the same with what I've managed at that time.
Of course, the solution for testing was very easy and should have been tried in the first place. I have attached a mouse to see that the results are almost the same. However, I recommend playing with mouse because it's much more precise.
Conclusion 1: swf on stock rom does not work most probably because of the TouchWhizz. That doesn't mean a flash update from Adobe can not resolve this.
Conclusion 2: swf does not work because of the flash player apk itself rather than the rom or swf player you're having;
I for one will keep my S1 close until Adobe releases a mobile flash version that works like on my old phone. Yeah, I know that could mean an eternity .
Oh, and another, offtopic, conclusion: Android Beta 4.3 - Google Edition - Deodexed stinks big time. There's not one application that didn't force close on me repeatedly. I'll try the Odexed but I doubt it will change things. If it doesn't I'll stick with CM until a more stable version of 4.3 comes out.
Can someone tell me if there is a software that can adjust the sensitivity of an S4? I mean to the phone itself, not the touch-screen. I don't care about the supported rom. ...Or I could take a more dangerous path, of changing the DPI if there is an application for that,
Thank you!
Strange behaviour wtith swf in stock rom
Back again with, what I consider, important observations.
I did a restore for my stock rom yesterday. Out of curiosity I wanted to see what swf files I can play from stock because when my phone came and I first tried it there were two swf version 10 files, out of ~30 that worked with Swf Player. I thought I could decompile some games to FLA, downgrade them to v10, publish and play them.
Now, instead of SWF Player I used Smart Flash Player. I was scratching my head as about a third of the games were loading and seemed functional. However, I didn't test the jerky behavior I told you abut in the previous post.
I wanted to copy those particular files in a new folder to know that those are playable and to my surprise games no longer worked. Did a reboot, cleared cash from Flash Player and tried again. Out of the ~10 that worked minutes before I had only about 3 or 4 games working. Now that's weird.
Today, out of many tries, I didn't manage to make even one game play with Smart Swf Player but one worked with Swf Player.
I have no idea what's happening but it seems stock rom IS capable of running local swf files with dedicated players. We just have to find what are the circumstances in which they do.
LE: I can easily play local swf movies or games with little interaction on stock rom, almost full screen, using web browser. Please let me know if you need a tutorial for that. My posts refer only to games with much more interaction.
OK, here's what you can do to play local .swf files on SGS 4's stock rom:
First, please be aware that you may experience some lag when playing swf movies/games and you lack the virtual gamepad for playing keyboard games.
1) Download SWF Player - Flash File Viewer & UC Browser for Android from Google Market (I haven't yet tested UC Browser HD but it should also work)
2) You must have the latest version of Flash Player installed. Search for Adobe Flash Archives, go to the result page and download the latest Android 4.0 version (at this moment it's 11.1.115.69)
3) Run SWF Player and browse to the local swf file you want to play. Tap once on the swf file and an option dialog will appear (if not, please activate it from app's settings; it should be activated by default). Right at the beginning you will see Open Mode.
The default setting is "use HTTP Protocol (Video Streaming)". Instead of that option choose the second one "use local HTML file". Afterwards you may be prompted to choose the app that opens your file in case you have more than one program that can handle swf files and you didn't set a default. Pick SWF Player to open. Of course the swf will not open correctly (that's the reason for my tutorial in the first place).
4) A very small HTML file has just been created, with approximately the same name, in the same folder as the swf file. Do not tamper with that html file.
5) Use any file browser (you can use even SWF Player) to reach that html file and open it with UC Browser. If needed, chose the full screen mode from browser's options.
That's all. Enjoy your swf movie/game!
Note 1: Tested many Internet Browser. UC Browser is, by far, the best. It is one of the few, if not the only one, that can play almost anything thrown at him, can play local files, has a real full screen mode for flash (unlike Firefox for example) and has the best sensitivity. UC Browser looks like SWF Player without the virtual pointer and game-pad.
Note 2: It is obvious that Flash Player for Android 4.0+ is no longer a priority for Adobe and it is pretty unstable, no matter what rom, software or tweak you use.
Note 3: For the above tutorial you may try other previous Flash versions as it is possible you may find a more stable one. Please let me know if you find something.
Note 4: A very promising Browser seems to be the Puffin Browser. For the moment it can not play local files but it has virtual game-pad, virtual mouse pointer and it seems to have the right sensitivity (no lag between taps). I will write developer and will keep a close watch on that app.
LE: no need for the extra hassle with SWF player app to create html . Just use your regular file browser and select open as text. UC Browser should then be one of the options to open that file.
How am I supposed to play games without contros in UC browser?

You're welcome!
Things changed a bit since my previous posts. You can now use FlashFox (not affiliated with Mozilla or Adobe), with full-screen add-on, to enjoy your local swf files.
UC Browser does not support local swf play since version 9.2. It's a good thing I made a backup of the app. I still use it to play local swf.
I use HTML ANALYZER for Download(ad) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.kensmix.pictrosefree&hl=en) to download .swf files and play them when offline.

Try "SWIFT Player, A Flash player" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.gamerush.flash.filemanager&hl=en). It supports both Jelly Bean & KitKat and has a virtual game pad.
Let me know if it worked.
Swift app etc doesn't support action script 2.2 as per adobe AIR error message. I see looping flash in both.
Closest I found is DOLPHIN browser but no keyboard visible at flash swf. It can use embedded controls though.
We can use hacker keyboard to view arrow keys strangely keyboard toggle not available in browser.
Requested dolphin developers to create gamepad or We need keypad always visible option.
Flashfox app has keyboard toggle but does not play swf.
I think assrider answered about uc browser.

I confirm that FlashFox is extremely unstable with swf files (unlike UC browser v9.2) but, if you insist, it can play most, if not all, swf files.
Of course, you can toggle the keyboard and install GamePad for free (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fishstix.gameboard&hl=en_GB) or the £2 GameKeyboard + (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.locnet.gamekeyboard2).
I've personally tested, just minutes ago, GameKeyboard + with local swf, in FlashFox and it works. For movement I had to use the right (not left) virtual thumbstick. With minor tweaks it should work like a charm The game was playable, although I can see it used more in slow-paced games, like Strategies or RPGs rather than Action games.
For GamePad I have to do some tweaks/settings which are not on my list right now. The standard/default D-pad is not working.
With FlashFox you have to insist in opening a swf file. For example, I used it to open a local swf file but it didn't work. I tried it on the next one and that one worked. I immediately exit and retried the previous one, that didn't work seconds ago and... now it worked.
I recently discovered this browser so I know little about it. My belief is that at least one of the previous versions should have been stable. I see this all the time with browsers. I am very, very reticent in updating them so I recommend you the same.
UC Browser v9.2 plays local .swf files in full-screen mode without the need of creating a html file. If you do the same now it acts like it's trying to download the file, not to play it.
Steps, using UC Browser v9.2 and Root Explorer 3.0.1*:
1) Use Root Explorer to browse to the local file;
2) Long tap the .swf file;
3) Select "Open With"
4) Go to the "General" tab
5) Select "Open as Text"
6) From the "Complete action using" window select UC Browser
7) Tap the "Just once" button and you're ready to play
*Note that you should have Adobe Flash for Android 4.0+ already installed. Also, you may be required to insist, by refreshing the page if it doesn't work on first try (it usually happens for big size files).
You can use other file browsers, with the condition that "Open as Text" doesn't use a proprietary plugin to open the file as a real text, with gibberish characters.
OK here is the trick I used
1. Side load (method tutorial in Google) flash apk for dolphin browser
2. Install flashfox browser
3 Install hacker’s keyboard and select 5 lines layout for portrait and landscape
4 Configure language and input mode settings for input mode switch go to advanced settings for experts in default keyboard if required (optional step)
5 Load local swf in open as text mode using file explorer like ES (thanks assrider) in flashfox browser
6 Click Menu Toggle Keyboard
Enjoy. It is slow but playable

Thanks for the feedback and for your suggestions! Unfortunately, I think this thread does not have good visibility so it can only be found by a Google search (like I did in the first place ). Also, it's possible that there are other underground threads in which this problem got a solution already.
I wanted to add that GameKeyboard + can be brought up anytime (recommend to use it in UC Browser 9.2) by pressing the volume up button.
"How to call up GameKeyboard
- enable "Settings->Use HotKey" then use [Vol. Up]/[Mouse Middle] as hotkey
- enable "Settings->Use Hotspot" then tap on hotspot screen corner"
I recommend you read the entire description of this beautiful app.
There is no need for the buggy FlashFox after all. Not to mention that in UC Browser you can play even fast paced games.
swf player , flashfox , dolphin browser seem cant work for my 500 mb swf file
