Hey, we won't tell anyone if it happens to fall in-front of that truck tire...
What don't you like about the Moment? I've heard good things...with exception to the horrible placement of the space bar on the physical keyboard.

Please, Please, Please make a thread about how you want to purposely brick your moment so you can make the switch.
I love love love! watching the brick police come in and throw hissy fit temper tantrums claiming you're ruining modern society by making false phone insurance claims.
When man has bricked the last cell phone only then will we realize we cannot eat refurbs
Well, if you decide to break it, please think up something creative and video it for us to see. Do something cool like the guy who got angry at his lawn mower and shot it in public with a shotgun. Please
I just my hero in February and I want to get the Evo. My phone is prestine I have the invisible shield on it and the otter box shield on it and its rooted also running the 2.08 Damagecontrol Rom. What would be a good price to sale it for. I was offered 85.00. I feel that's to low.

I hear thermite bricks phone pretty easily.
My main problem with the moment is this: Radom Airplane mode and EVDO lockups for no apparent reason. Only way to fix is to reboot the phone. Other than that the thing ways a freakin ton. I like the keyboard and the AMOLED screen though. Also, I miss you guys and installing a new ROM or theme every day

yeah my buddy just got the moment the other day, had it for less than a day and it was stuck in airplane mode lol if you have insurance then just tell them you lost it???
Gunny, do you not have 30 days to return it?
(rant)this is why I posted a straight trade for my hero from that buggy ass hardware in the moment...some sucker took the bait and did a trade for that pos..
been loving my hero ever since..things to hate about the moment..no matter what rooted rom you use that phone always locks up into airplane mode or random reboots..samsung should be ashamed of that phone they put the android name on
if you blow the phone up or anything make sure you youtube it and post a link..my buddy is going to make a video of what a moment looks like after getting blown up by a 50 caliber round by his service spier riffle at 300 meters....it will be an epic video lol.well when he gets back state side...almost makes me want to buy another moment just to annihilate one...that phone pissed me off so bad...(/end rant)

There will be nothing left to video. I wonder if the tiny bits and pieces will even be identifiable as a Samsung Moment..
Hell they been doing trades on Craigslist for those for the last couple months if you lived near I'd give you my girlfriends. Don't know why but she wants one. Good luck.

Hell yes it does
The Moment really sucks. Check the Sprint community forums at their official website, there's a known issue with the Moment experiencing fake-airplane/CDMA modem lock ups. The only way to get the connection back when it happens is to shut the phone down and turn it back on. I went through six Moments. The last time I swapped it, I just hung out at the bookstore next door until the data connection would break, then take it back over there so they could vainly try to fix it, then replace it with another Moment; rinse and repeat until they finally agreed to give me a Hero like I asked when I first walked into the store. When I went in last time, they said that if I had came in in May, and not June (the third in this case), they could've swapped it then with the hero (said something about swapping for a different device if there are so many swaps within a 6 month period). PITFA.
Anyway, I have my Hero now, and it works wonderfully, and has way better battery life than the moment. -AND- multitouch works on the Hero, which it won't on the Moment, even with the 2.1 update... I'm never buying Samsung ever again.
yeah you should definitely just go back to the Hero

Coworker just did this after unboxing his iPhone 4. He asked for access (with a straight face) to my Nexus One's wireless tether for internet.
Apparently needed it to setup and configure his iPhone.
Isn't that like the French soliciting the Germans for political advice?

he also tried to come in and boast about how superior his phone was, so we compared hd youtube feeds. Unfortunately his iPhone4 could not get a high quality feed over 3g (or he didn't know how to). I showed pity and let him tether again off the N1, but even then, the N1 was much brighter. (I failed to point out i maxed out my brightness via a widget, and he didn't max out his brightness, but all's fair in love and mobile war.)
A few more discussions about bandwith and tethering costs on iPhone 4 and he slumped away duly shamed. Now he's considering returning his phone, but I believe the iSheep is too strong.
Spoke with another iPhone 4 guy this weekend whose girlfriend just got an EVO. He says he's keeping the iPhone for two reasons.
Lot more games on iPhone 4. I can't argue with that for now.
He's stuck in a contract and had to replace his cracked iphone 3gs (he left it on top of his car. It had a sticky rubber case so didn't pop off until he was speeding down the road to predictable results. The picture is brutal. On the other hand, it was still able to sync to iTunes, so kudos to Apple for that.)

What... what kind of dimwit leaves his phone on top of his car?
Guess he deserved a broken phone.
yes, a co worker wanted to update his iphone here also. work wifi is dog slow, my 3g is pretty decent... let him tether, two reboots and his iphone was happy.
then he realized he couldn't tether, lost root (jailbreak/whatever), and it messed his itunes library. fail.
ohwell. at least he has two years of contract left to enjoy the goodness of extra $30 / month for data, data caps, and tethering charges ! sweet !
You should play him this video on your n1.

I was just curious if anyone else out there enjoyed that kinda senseless "hobby".
I was so upset yesterday when my 16gb card died and I lost about 7000 files total, including some memorable pics and videos that can't be replaced. Just about every apk that demonoid had, my beginning database of wardriving spots (prolly around 4000 in less than a week), videos and pics from my vacation, and two "cool" videos. One was me filming outside my work one day when it was pouring rain and a lightning bolt hit less than a block away. Scared the **** outta me, heh! The other was me sitting in traffic and someone was driving the batmobile from the 60's and paused by me and I got it on video. :'(
Needless to say, I've started all over again with my driving database. Maybe I will get lucky again and be able to get back into some of the gated communities to map them. Btw, I am a delivery driver, so I am driving all around day and night.
Some people have some funny access point network names! A couple I remember were one named "slut" and another called "big black d_ck" (fill in the blank). Lmao. And the word wasn't the aflac bird either!
Anyone share this "interest" and have any tales to tell while out driving of anything unusual or funny?

I used to do that with my laptop. One time this guy caught me and called me an ass for trying to access his network when I was outside his house. Then he went on to tell me that I couldn't access his network anyway because he had WEP encryption. The next day I went back cracked his WEP key in about 20 minutes and gained access to his network. Amazing how much porn the guy had including the illegal kind. I changed his wallpaper to a custom one that I had that said he'd been hacked. After that it just kind of got old. More people jumping from 64 bit WEP to 128 bit.

I would like to know this as well.
I am using "wardrive" from the market. I don't know if it's the best but it's pretty god and hasn't given me any problems. It will kill a battery pretty quick with the gps and wifi and 3g all running at the same time. I found a higher amp (1A) cigarette lighter usb thingy at bb and I just plug my sync cable into that and it's enough juice to keep the phone from pulling from it's battery and even charge it (slowly).
Keep the phone out of the direct sunlight while running the program and charging because the phone can overheat easily. The wifi ears on the phone are kinda deaf but sometimes that can be preferred. You'll have to practically be on top or very close to the signalfor the app to catch it. I think that way might be closer to where the ap actually is if the receiver is deaf.
I made an account over at wigle (google it) so I can upload the database to there and help build their map.
No, I don't try to get into other people's networks, I just map their locations. Hell, it gives me something different to do while driving besides listening to music.

It's driving around neighborhoods looking for OAP (open access points) in peoples network. You would be surprised how many people go out and buy a router and bring it home and just plug the thing in without ever configuring it for security.

You will notice a small difference in speed if using 128 bit wep. Because of the higher encryption it is more data to send and receive, therefor lower speed in browsing, downloading, etc., etc. Not enough to cause a ruccus over though.
I do this occasionally.
The Supersonic increases the fun factor significantly.
Has anybody determined the range of the wifi yet. I know it doesn't do so good through two or three rooms away from the AP. What about open airway? Anybody know?
WarDriving can be dangerous to a device tho I had a friend who tried to connect to a bank once and it did something that killed his laptop running windows instantly it made it reboot and he actually had to reload windows to this day I dont know wtf it was and I have been in IT for 15 yrs still his fault for doing it but never thought that possible!

Banks use custom hardware and software based firewalls. They are developed by companies that design firewalls. We're talking 1,024 bit encryption. I'm a network analyst and can almost guess that they had a honeypot set up on there trunk. Designed to invite the casual hacker to snoop and at the same time gather all his information, then report him to the proper authorities. Even throw a DDOS attack back at him. As far as killing his OS. They probably had a virus set to exploit any hacker that tried to breach there network.

when using advanced task killer, how much memory do you guys usually have? i'm sitting at around 140MB but right after i reboot the phone and kill apps i got to 190MB. my evo was around 230MB after reboot and around 170MB after running for a while.
you think custom roms will help memory management and get all this crap off here? i thought the evo and the shift had the same amount of RAM (512mb)...
but man did i miss my keyboard. went to the evo, yelled at my phone for the keyboard probably 50 times a day, raised blood pressure im sure... now i got the physical keyboard, no guessing now.
the only thing I miss is the Evo screen size, but I am very very very happy with this phone. I can't stop playing with it. Gameboid with real buttons as controls makes it so much easier to play FFVI :-D I can't wait to overclock the snot out of this thing.
In stock?
If I haven't pre-ordered at this point, is it realistic for me to be able to find somewhere with this in stock tomorrow morning?
Another thing the Shift has also is the New Flip Clock. Although, I do know you can flash it on the Evo. However, you have to be rooted in order to it.
Yeah I picked mine up from radio shack two days ago for $150. Hell I was the first one the store sold and I went in at like 7pm. The reps didn't even know they had the phone on display yet.

As soon as I got my TP2 I flashed the rom over to MightyRom, and I used the Internet Sharing it had to tether to my laptop and that worked fine with my current Sprint plan.
Now I got the Shift with the stock rom and it is saying that I need to buy an additional $30 a month add on to my plan in order to tether to my laptop...
Anyone know a way to get around this with an app or a rom?

Its was launched just today but has been available at radioshack and bb for a couple of days. The only way for tethering would be to root it and then use a custom rom. That is what I know imho.

Very few products launch with zero glitches. It always takes a few months before everything gets ironed out. Even the all mighty iPhone suffers from this. Besides in my area the service is identical to my other sprint android phone, the epic. Its almost certainly a flawed prl as it seems to only effect certain people in certain areas and will surely be fixed.
You cant always expect perfection when being an early adopter.

It doesn't matter where I am in the Metro, I'm getting spotty signal. Do you think I should switch it out? This one is actually my second, as the first one couldn't stay on 4G even in coverage areas. In the best buy in Ridgedale it would get signal and drop before the sales rep could even walk it out of the store, so he exchanged it for me. Maybe I'll have luck the third time.

I got a second one because it's really a killer phone, but I'm afraid I'm gonna be stuck with a crappy radio for months and I'm not willing to do that.

I have done PRL updates and it didn't seem to make a difference. I know this is xda, but I don't think I should have to flash roms for the phone to work (although I really appreciate the devs and members here a ton).
Data speeds are better on the EVO 4G sitting next to my NS4G on every speedtest available including the Speakeasy website. When I go to the other room I can't hold a solid wifi signal and the EVO works great even on another floor. I know the EVO GB update has a couple of bugs, but I feel that they will be taken care of quickly by HTC and Sprint.

why should i go away? i never said i didn't like it. im not like some of you that stick to a defective device. if you think i was the only one complaining i suggest you do a google search. best buy told me flat out they have had a ton of nexus returns lately. what does that tell you?
you sure don't see me going round telling you guys to return it. so enjoy and stop trying 'failing" to flame!

I'm not flaming or trolling fix. I do have an honest question that isn't meant to try and piss you off. Since your not liking this phone and deciding to return it, how come you still hang around in this section and contribute to discussions? I could guess why all day but I thought I'd just ask. Like I said, i'm not trying to start anything with you, I was just wondering.
About the topic now. At first, I was very leery of getting burned again by samsung. I read the reviews and played with one briefly at bb and wasn't impressed. I was, when I bought it, I was experiencing my usual impulsive buying itch. I tried 4g the same day and was very disappointed with the results.
Through time, it started to grow on me. I liked the unbranded and lack of bloat and spyware and vanilla ui experience. I thought lacking a notification led would suck big time until I ran across noled. The speaker is a little quiet but a little boost from voodoo sound and volume+ helped. Yeah the radios are kinda deaf but in waiting for maybe a patch for that some time soon. I thought that having a limited video camera resolution would suck until I used it and saw it wasn't low framerate blurry vision like all my other phones. People said it takes forever to charge. Imo, nothing was as slow to charge than the epic. Charging isn't really slow either.
Most of the reported negatives, before I bought it, I have found solutions or work arounds. There's a few things that need to be taken care of with future patches, but it's nice to have the latest and most up to date and pretty stable os around. For the first time, i'm not anxiously waiting for the new evo. Mainly because I don't like sense and I'm spoiled with getting the updates before the other phones.
