Whats the sweet spot for the amount of free ram and free phone storage meomry needed for smooth operations??
my phone has like phone storage memo 52 mb free and free ram in phone is like 70 mb on startup and 45 - 50 mb after few hrs usage..
I really want to install another app which ll take like 5-8 mb ram while it's running, which leaves like 40 mb free ram for other apps!!!
Is 40 mb free ram enougfh for smooth rumming of fone?? (music, videos, opera, and ebooks )
oh, I wish to have so much free RAM
I think 40MB is enough, under the condition, that You will not turn on all these apps simultaneously.
Ah thanks
I ll run only one of em at a time

this is off topic, but how much RAM is free on a clean device (fresh from T-Mobile)?
Its going to be pretty close to 31.01 MB, if my memory serves me correctly.
So we got 512 rom & 512 ram. Does the OS take up 400 some odd megs? Dang I thought we'd have a ton of space left! What's eating all the mem?
I recently got my Eris, and downloaded a free ram widget. It tells me that I only have 186 MB of total system ram, and I run at about 40 mb free.. usually. So I'm wondering where the other, about 120 mb is at?
Edit: Can a mod please move to the correct forum? Sorry.

288MB is total. We already went thru all this on the G1. First off, part of that is shared memory. The baseband requires something like 40-50MB, then there is another 10MB or something for kernel, then another 30-40MB that is shared for camera, audio, gpu, framebuffer, command line buffer, and all kinds of neato things. We also realized that about 2MB just disappear into the ether. The G1 has 192MB total RAM, but only 96MB is available to the kernel, and with the RAM hack we get 107MB total.
I use American Android build and I want to use all my ram, we're supposed tohave 512 mb but with almost everything but the essentials closed I only have 250 - 260 available at best. I have some apps that use a lot if juice to run like gta3 and I can't get it to run smoothly. What can I do?

250-260 is very good. I only get around 250 straight after startup, and generally 180. Think about it logically, how the hell are you supposed to get 512 mb of free RAM when the entire OS has to utilise it? Have some common sense
( its not 512mb starting total, its 576 less 128 gfx less the 20/30 meg android somehow loses = 411-420 meg total ram, and then subtract whatever the system components use)
So where is the rest? U8800 has 512 mb. With barely nothing running... most tasks killed I have only 140 mb free to use so most games just crash. Running aurora rom.
I remember.
The system uses a lot of ram but 140mb sounds kind of low.
The rest is reserved for the GPU.
