Hi xda developers
I have a question on the screen saver on the Treo Pro, its great that it gives you missed calls and text as a notification however it would be even better if it also indicated the silent switch status also e.g. is on?.
Some times when you have left a meeting you forget that its on and then notice later in the day the alerts.
But if it check the handset to see the time and the status was displayed you would then get the opportunity to switch it back before seeing the notice.

HI,
I know that they probably consume some battery time but I was wondering if anyone saw something like this ?
Thanks in advance,
Bright S
Isn't such a programm really useless?
Why not turning of the device?
Stefan
i to am looking for some software like this. I would love my magician to be more like my old sony ericsson mobile in this sense. It would be great to have a screen saver that completely turns of the backlight of the device and just display a very faint image of the time. And also it will display a faint symbol to indicate a missed call or txt message so i can glance at the phone and kno if i have recieved a message without turning of the screen saver. Would also be helpful if the screen saver locked the device so tht none of the buttons work work and the screen doesnt reactivate if a message is displayed.
How much would this affect battery life? as the screen itself is basically still turned off the whole time the only difference is that i would like it so that the device never actually turns off so this faint clock and message warning is ALWAYS on and never turns off.
something like this would be fantastic!

Why not go to the today screen, switch off the backlight (hold down power switch) and then use a keylock program (many freeware ones around).
That way, you've got you whole today screen as a screensaver.
If the icons are too small, make a phonealarm skin with HUGE icons, font size 50, and you'll be laughing.
A more integrated standalone screensaver would be straightforward to program tho. analog clock, sms/call notification etc, date etc.

Pocket Candy was always quite good. Bit old now tho.

Mortsaver (www.sto-helit.de) freeware does this! All you have to do is hit a button and it displays a clock, missed calls/messages and signal strength. After 5 secs of not unlocking it, it locks the phone again and backlight goes off. There are reports of battery drainage, but I use ot for over 5 months now and have no negative experiences with it.
Yes, MortSaver exactly does this. You can also configure it in a way that it turns off the device when activated, so there's no additional battery drain at all. Once you switch on your Magician, it shows the saver with time, battery and message popups. When you're not deactivating it via the assigned hardware button, it turns off the device again.
What I was looking for is a replacement for the simple TPEnable/TPDisable, since it deactivates the hardware buttons as well in new ROM revisions. I prefered that solution over MortSaver since I prefer the today screen as information screen and this solution was faster on deactiviation as well. Does anyone know such a simple tool (only deactivating the touchscreen - nothing else)?
Hi
does anyone notice that their today screen clock hangs once the screen is turned back on???
Also any comments on the sound clarity when talking- is there a 'shh' noise in the background??
thx
my clock hangs for just a split second, it's not that bad to me. but i've only had mine a few weeks now.
as for the sound Q no problem's here.
Clock Hangs
I complained to the provider about this and they said its normal.
Yup, the today screen lag is normal, you'll often be shocked that it's still 5:00 PM, that was an hour ago!
Also, does anyone have any tips on telling the time without having the laggy useless today screen there? I've set it so that the clock comes up in the tool bar, but that only works when other applications are open. It'd be nice if I could set it so it's always at the tool bar.
So, I have a Behold II and noticed this damn thing doesn't have a notification LED. So i was wondering.... can someone make the following app:
When you receive a text, there is no LED to show you got one, so you constantly need to look at your phone...
If someone can make an app where when you receive a text... your screen slowly glows? that would be pretty neet. Let me know if theoretically this is possible.
Imagine, phone on your desk, you get up, come back and its slowly fading on and off... (i know this will be a battery killer).
Handcent sms has a funtion that turns your phone on when you get a text...
The problem with that is that it might turn on the screen momentarily but then it'll auto sleep again in a minute or less. I want to know if someone can make something where when we get a text, the screen just faintly "glows" white.... a slow fade in and out until you grab your phone.
Ideas would be:
- Make the screen fade in and out slowly (a faint glow, almost like the Flashlight App, but faint... not BAM LIGHT lol)
- Make a settings to be able to choose the color you want
- Make a setting to pick the time of day you don't want it to glow (save battery). So if I set "no glow" from 12AM - 8AM and i get a text at 3AM my phone won't glow cause it'll glow all morning till i wake up and drain all battery.
Any ideas?
If you make the screen glow until you grab your phone, this would kill the battery. Just imagine receiving a text at 1 am while u r sleeping, when you wake up your battery would be unecessarily used up.

thats why i wrote one of the settings for time frame... a "NO GLOW" time...
so you can set NO GLOW from 12AM - 8AM (while you're sleeping) and if you get a text nothing happens... It only works at the hours you choose.
Sounds like a cool app and for those that have hearing problems kinda even more important
In case this never materializes you could turn the notification reminders on so it could beep or vibrate after the initial notification

Thats how I have it now but it only vibrates once every so often... I could use more of a visual notification specially while at work... phone goes on the desk and I don't always feel the vibration
just noticed this today, but whenever i receive a text message (sms/mms) the screen doesnt turn itself on. I hear the bell notification and see the trackball light up but the screen still stays on standby mode. Is this normal?
Im used to the iphone turning the screen on its own whenver i get a text message.
Nope, this is normal on all Android phones. Download SMS popup if you want a feature such as this. Quite irritating if you ask me, kinda a battery waster I would assume.
This is why Android phones usually have LEDs, or a trackball. For notifications
Doesn't Handcent SMS have this feature too..
Ok thank you! Its just was never around my phone or actually looking at it when i receive text messages. but for some reason today i was next to it and the screen didnt turn on.
I dont really want the feature, but i just wondering if i did anything to screw up the phone. Thanks again for the help!
handcent and chompsms have the popup i know for sure
I think I may actually like this feature better. The trackball seems more subtler. Although, I did enjoy knowing who was texting.
I prefer the trackball lighting as well (I don't want the screen to light up), but on the Desire ROM from MoDaCo, when you get a message the screen lights up and you see a preview on the lock screen. Messaging application icon also shows how many unread messages on the screen. I think it is cool. I don't want the screen coming on, but I like how it shows a preview on the lock screen.

Why would you want the screen to turn on?
So everyone else can read your texts?
Trackball notifications are awesome.
I just got TrackballAlert on the Desire ROM which allows you to choose your own colors.
During St Patty's day: "Hey your phone is glowing blue. What is that? That looks awesome!"
LOL. i didnt like that the texts would just take over the screen....people can see that mug!!!
not that i wanted that feature, but i thought it was standard for all phones to have the screen turn on from standby when getting a text....i just thought i did something to screw up the phone.
It seems an obvious omission that the AOD does not reveal basic handset status.
Flight Mode and Mute/Vinbrate status (and probably some other things) would be great stuff to know without having to activate the screen.
Is there a setting to display this info beside the Date Time and Battery?
I am probably missing something simple here as I find my way around my new S7 edge.
Yeah turn on your screen.
Sent from my Blackberry Bold
Will do for now.
Hopefully Samsung might add phone status when/if they update AOD.
Time and date on AOD is of little use to anyone who wears a watch.
I have to put my phone in and out of flight mode several times each day. I also set it to silent call in meetings quite ofter. A couple of icons displaying this status of this would be far more useful to me. This way I do not have to continuous toggle the screen on to see if calls will come in, or be audible when they do.
