what is the best rom to use for x1a? - XPERIA X1 General

I know, I know..."search the forums." I actually have, I've been looking all day. The thing is, I'm not really that smart when it comes to roms, touch flow3d (no idea what that is) or any other things.
I just upgraded to the SE R2 release for my x1a, and liked it, until i installed spb Plus 4 on it, and it slowed it to a crawl. I uninstalled it, but it still goes super slow. Also, the top right of one of the stock panels (where you used to be able to click on it and see what was open, and close them if you want) is gone now.
I decided to try doing a hard reset and reinstall all my stuff (except spb plus, of course). Then I was thinking, if I'm going to do that, maybe now is a good time to try one of the xda roms...though I don't know what the pros/cons are, which ones to use, etc.
I was even thinking about toying around with the 6.5 beta rom that someone had been talking about.
anyway, please don't dig into me and beat me down for not searching, i really did put in a couple hours trying to figure it out, and that is just today. I'm just looking for a little education i guess.
Thanks,
Ian

just saw the thread...
well, um... the thing is that no one can answer the question for you and you'll have to pick the one ROM you like best yourself;
the best idea would be to play around with a few of the cooked ROMs and see what happens;
one thing is certain though, you will need to do a bit of reading to make everything work as it should as there are always bugs in cooked ROMs... well actually, even the official ones have flaws (more than the cooked ones? or is it just me?)... anyway, make a long story short, try Itje's Touch-IT v4.5 (easily found in the SE Xperia X1 ROM Dev section) and see if it's something you wanted or not, if not then go for something else, but then again as I said, until you have an idea of what you want, then no one will be able to help you and tell you how to get it;
interesting things you may want to try out on your phone are
touchflo3d (Itje's Touch-IT has this on by default)
pointui home2 (free of charge, just google it and read on)
spb mobile shell 2.1.5 (i believe is the latest.... also, chargeable but certainly a good app if you're lost on your WM phone and want something more phone-like..)
hope this helps;
forgot, if you want to save yourself time installing these and trying them out, try looking up reviews on youtube; you'll definitely find some vids with how they work etc.

to be honest, ANY of the custom ROMS using the beta R3A rom. Performance jump vs R1A rom is incredible... S2P actually slides smoothly b/w pages now and screen rotation is almost instant.
I'm personally using Touch-IT 4.5; it's a bit fiddly to fix all the little issues with that ROM. Try Jack's one instead.

Ok, newb here and my Xperia hasn't even arrived yet... That said, I have played with the 6.5 roms on both Kaiser and Raphael: much is not working and even more is not working properly, so unless you're comfortable with resolving phone problems and/or fiddling with OS internals, winmo 6.5 is not a great idea *yet*. There is some real promise in it, just not ready for "prime time" yet.

Touch It 4,5 Landscape the best!

I've tried Touch-IT 4.5 and I must say it messed my X1 up, things didn't work,...
I think for X1, it's better to stick with the original ROM and its upgrades.

Breathing new life into my X1 - My story

There are probably quite a few people on here that have had the same experience with the X1 that I have had.
After buying the phone, the emotions went from excitement, to frustration to deep disappointment. I bought it because I wanted a customisable, powerful phone with plenty of convergence opportunities. However, out-of-the-box the phone is sluggish, the "panels" implementation is a waste of time, battery life is abysmal and worst of all it is woefully unfriendly on the finger.
I visited this forum regularly; passively reading the threads and looking at the different applications on offer. Some of them did improve the situation; iContact was a favourite... very finger friendly PIM app. However, these apps struggled to mask the inadequacies of the phone.
A lot of the posts on here related to ROMs, and initially I resisted. I read the posts in which people had dramatically improved the phone by "flashing" the operating system with something entirely new, and I was cautiously tempted. But I also read the posts from those for whom the flashing process went wrong. Knowing that if something could go wrong, it WOULD go wrong with me... I didn't want to take the risk of having a very expensive brick in my possession. I also felt a bit cheated... you shouldn't NEED to go through the fairly drastic process of flashing your phone in order to get it work satisfactorily.
I persevered for 5 months and eventually got to the point of making a tough decision. I wasn't happy with the phone... and was willing to write it off as a mistake and buy a new one. As I normally only buy phones on upgrade, to do it mid-contract it would work out very expensive for me. However, it did give me an opportunity.... flash the ROM; if it failed, I go and buy a new phone (as I was resigned to do anyway), if it was successful, I can have a fresh start with the X1.
I read through hundreds of posts on this forum and took lots of notes. I started by downloading HardSPL as was recommended by most in order to prime the phone to accept flashing with non-standard ROMs. I docked my phone to the PC via ActiveSync, and ran the program (making sure to turn off the "advanced networking" option in ActiveSync). It ran through OK (took 5 minutes), the phone rebooted, and everything seemed OK. Part 1 successful.
I then chose a ROM. This was actually a hard choice, as I had no frame of reference. The ROM "Chefs" in the other forum do their best to explain things to N00bs, but in the end, words like "Titanium" and "Rhodium" and "Manilla" crop up so often that the posters can't be expected to explain it each time. A good idea for a forum regular might be to put a sticky at the top of the forum with a very simple glossary explaining each of these terms.
Also frustratingly, most of the ROM chefs also claims theirs to be "super fast". In the end, there is no real way to judge the great chefs from the bad... other than to taste the food!
I settled for mobilevu's [V-LITE 3.5 Final Titanium]. I wanted to make sure I went for Windows Mobile 6.5 implementation, as I was hoping most of the annoyances I had with the phone were due to Windows Mobile 6.1.
I backed up all my contacts online using the nice and simple Google Sync, formatted my micro SD card, copied the ROM to the card, and then turned off the phone. I restarted by holding down the volume and power buttons at the same time, which loaded the BootLoader screen. Took a deep breath... then started the process. It took about 45 minutes in total to flash the phone, setup Windows and then install all of the customisations.
In the end? I'm fairly happy. WM6.5 is a finger-friendly improvement, and the Titanium interface is quite intuitive. It feels like a different phone, and for now, it feels less sluggish. It's still not perfect, and I have traded old annoyances for new ones, e.g. I now don't have an easy way to see my battery status, and closing applications always returns you to the Home screen rather than the last menu you were browsing. Little niggles that I will have to iron out to be totally happy. However, the key thing is that I have given the phone a "clean slate" and I am confident about doing it again should the need arise. It is an involved process and not something I plan to do every week, but it's not as stressful as I first imagined... and it's cheaper than buying a new one!
Yea every rom has little bugs - especially the 6.5 ones since it is not an official release - i was also hesitant to flash at first but it all went smoothly too - tested lots of 6.5 roms but in the end decided 6.5 isnt ready yet and until all the little things are fixed i'll stick with stock vodafone r3a lol
Though some of 6.5 i vastly improved but some of it can be attained through advanced config yet still the scrolling isnt super smooth.
Still glad u kept your x1 - u wont regret it!
You think you will be getting the x2 when it comes out though?
You should try gtrab's wm6.5 rom. I think his roms are the best so far. After that, install Iconsoft PhonEx app and you will have a great X1.
tried a few. Try itjes 10,4. Superb rom. In his thread there is post about how to tweak it to go even faster.
I couldnt believe how fast opera loads "heavy" pages.
And its freakin fast. Im sticking to 6,1, much more stabile.

Scrolling seems to be one of the biggest drawbacks so far on both versions of the OS, including 6.5. The Titanium interface is great, but it suffers a little because there phone seems to "stick" often when you are gesturing through the menus. There is also a delay when the interface appears before it accepts finger input. As much as it pains me to say it, the iPhone is light-years ahead in this respect.

It depends what's on the market at the time, but I seriously doubt it in all honesty. I think I will give WinMo a rest for a few years and maybe switch to Android. I might come back to WinMo for release 7... if the reviews are good.

For me, it's a straight trade-off between stability and usability. Regardless of how stable it was, I just found 6.1 so unfriendly to navigate, particularly with a finger. There are tools that can improve it, such as IconSoft PhoneEx as VNMenuIeu mentioned, but filling the phone with shell extensions and applications just to raise the usability to a manageable level feels wrong; particularly if I have to pay for them! I have an expectation that out-of-the-box, the phone should be more than suitable for 99% of users, and the 1% who want to tweak should be able to. That's the way the Windows PC OS' have worked for years. However, WinMo seems to be the other way around...
the glossary is certainly a good idea .... and for me , i flashed the phone the same day i brought it home (put i read alot about it before i got the phone so i wasnt a n00b)
digital_elysium, i was going thro the same kind of despair that you have gone thro. Many a times i decided to flash my phone, then thought about the "brick" and backed off... Only afrer your post did i get some hope of doing it... I did it today, and installed gtrab's ROM which her released today.. relief, new hope and happiness, all thanks to your post... I salute you...
And mods... glossary plz?

lolz. i too took a leap of faith after five months of frustration with the stock roms.
flashed touch x 10.1 and still on it. tho ive tried a couple of other roms out of curiosity but went back to touch x.
flashing isnt a hard process at all if u read the instructions carefully. so others who are hesitant of flashing their x1 for fear of bricking it shud be encouraged to try.
at their own risk

Iphone touch screen and Xperia's cannot be compared, they're not even the same technology. (resistive vs capacitive)

Glad to be of service, that's why I wrote the post.
Hope the new ROM continues to bring happiness!

I lost my stylus, but I dont care

A couple of weeks ago, I managed to loose the stylus for my Elfin.
(When I say I have lost it, I mean its somewhere in my room,
but im not sure where)
It was the second of the two included with the device, and I had
already lost the first one, so Im out of styli.
As a result, Im now using just my fingers to navigate around my
little device and I must say Im pleasantly surprised.
Its still quite easy to use, even without the stylus.
I must admit, that I need to use a fingernail every now and then.
But overall its plain sailing.
Im currently running the PDAVIET wm6.5 ROM Clicky
This ROM is quite stable, and very finger friendly.
This post is mostly to say how easy to use wm6.5 is.
Well done Microsoft (not often i say that)
I hardly ever use my stylus, with the one major exception of scummvm. It is impossible to click accurately on an 8-pixel tall line of text in Monkey Island with the fingertip, and too much work to try and hit it with my short nails.
Always use a screen protector, you dont want to see a rainbow scratch.
I found my stylus, but i barely ever use it still
Plus, i now use THIS rom, which runs even quicker. Plus, with the last rom, I was trying to alter the theme and m2D theme by editing image files, but the theme on this rom is what i was trying to make myself
Its like they took what I wanted and put it into a ROM for me to download ^_^
Is that rom good?
As in, cos I have been using Onyx 4.6 and everytime I upgrade to Onyx 5, I just felt like downgrading it to 4.6
Does this ROM have that tachi phonecanvas?

Very Very happy with my new HD2

I finally recieved my HD2 today and I have been playing around with it all day.
Ontill now all works. Even old programs and games I installed worked great.
Only dificulty I have now is to use the capacitive screen because it's to much sencitive compared to my old HD.
But even that is starting to be good, it's just a matter of time ontill I get used to it.
It's all so FAST and stable that I begin wordering if the HD2 is like this on it's first public ROM, in some time when people start to tweak and discover new stuff about this super machine it will be something I can't even imagine.
Keep the good news coming, Has anyone put it agains the 3gs yet?
I've got a 3GS, but I've got access to an HD2. Going to go and have a look. I'm not hearing great things about it though, but I'm hoping with a few registry tweaks and the like I can sort it.
I notice in your sig you've got "Using ROM HD2 1.43.479.0 (69828) WWE" the device I'm going to have a look at is running 1.43.405.1 (70124). Curious.

Thinking of Selling my HD2, any suggestions to keep it?

I know you guys have seen a million of these threads, i thought my thoughts on this phone would change. I have taken a lot of your suggestions. I have Flashed the phone, to try to get rid of the laggyness and freezing. I am running RSTG Sense UI rom, and while the phone is a little faster. I am still getting freezes, restarting, it never properly updates facebook/twitter/weather, without freezing. I really want to keep this phone, but the allure of the nexus One is starting to become too much, especially after watching my buddy pick up a Droid and playing with it.
I just want to know what i am doing wrong, i haven't installed any programs on this, i have a few albums, the pictures that came with it, basically what i am getting at is, i did not put anything on it, to make it this sluggish, 15 mins before i decided to type this, my phone froze, i tried to check an SMS from the GF, and couldn't get past the unlock screen, it just keep freezing.
I am open to suggestions, i want to keep this phone, but it sounds like Android for the HD2 will never happen, from what i heard, its still a good year away, and even with the release of the EVO, we still aren't promised to get an android release for the HD2. I am able to deal with Winmo, i have a touch pro and a fuze, hacked/flashed to death. So it's not entirely winmo.
I just need to know whats a good ROM to run, i have the utmost respect for all the devs that cook these ROMs, and put the time and effort into making them, but i need one that is going to make my phone stable, and not crash. I went through a lot to get my Dream phone, only to find out, its been a nightmare since getting it.
So i am turning to you guys, what can i do to make this phone a little more stable. Please spare me the usual crap talking. I am asking because i really want to keep this phone, and i have tried the flashing. This phone should be butter and not hiccup this much.
Any help is appreciated and wanted. Thanks for reading, and i hope i was clear enough. I read these forums everyday, so please don't tell me to search, hell my GF hates that i got an HD2, cuz i lurk here 24/7, i wake up and go to sleep reading XDA lol.
Get a nexous one
get the nexous one
The HTC/Sense SMS app is the cause for most of the problems of this phone. Disabling it completely and using the Windows SMS app would prevent much of what you're describing. Regardless of what ROM you use, if you use the HTC/Sense SMS app, you're asking for trouble.
I have the Kumar Premium 1.5 and don't have issues. Once in a long while, the phone will slow down, but then it's back to normal. I also use MMTaskManager and cleanRAM regularly to make sure I don't have lingering things in memory that could take up resources since I've been downloading and installing apps more than usual.
But, that said, I say get the Nexus One. If you need someone else to convince you to keep the phone after you've had it for a while and already tried a few things, then my guess is you'll find some other niggles about the phone that will irritate you down the road. Better to cut your loses and get the Android phone.
Good luck!
Well Divx movies, 4.3 inch screen and its a phone that you can browse the internet...Is it perfect.....Hell NO!!!!!!! Does it have to be restarted all the time..Probably 5 times a day if your running apps. It freezes all the time. I run custom roms. Is there a better phone? Not until EVO with android. By that time Skyfire will be out of beta for flash support and maybe the kernal further along supporting more video formats... I had the NEXUS loved it.."i lost it".but to slow on tmobile. Now i have a 4.3 inch screen i cant go smaller only larger.
I will try to disable the SMS setting and use Windows, and i agree, once you have a screen this big, its really hard to go smaller, thats why i posted here. I just want some tips on how to make this thing run properly. A phone with these kind of specs, should not have these kinds of problems. A little slow down here and there is understandable, but the constant freezing/restarting is annoying.
I don't want to just get rid of it, maybe i should try another rom after i change those SMS settings.
Any other suggestions on how i can make this phone perform the way it should be performing?
i really want to keep it.
Oh and i always use task manager.always.

That's what she said
try another ROM, and try disabling some of the tabs in sense you don't use. Sense is the biggest culprit to crashes in my experience. No matter how powerful they make the HD2, if you keep a resource hogging piece of software running perpetually, it will slow things down. I close the tabs I don't use to minimize the performance draw. You can also try turning off the weather animations and the weather screen altogether. The weather animations are only fascinating for about a day anyway.
Trying another ROM is always a good route. I've used Kumars and Energy so far...both are very stable for me, and hardly ever crash.

Thanks for the reply, i was thinking of using Kumars, i keep hearing great things about it. I don't want to turn off the weather animations cuz they always amuse me lol.
i am using engery rom the apr 9 regular 21898 very fast and stable rom for me so far.
after use it for 2 days just find out most the crash was cause by opera mobile 10 so i either change to the opera mini 5 which almost the same with the opera mobile 10 or i need to EXIT it competely. and by the way did you hard reset you hd2 after flash to the new rom? it will help for the lacking issue too
Turn off the security code on the lock screen! That thing mucks the phone up and slows it to a snail. My wife's was constantly freezing with that option on.
Also search here, download and install QuikMenu 2.8. Set the XButton to close on short tap and minimize on long hold. Then set it to close Activesync. Then go to pg 2 and make the size 16 or greater to make it pretty. FYI QuikMenu only works with roms that have the Start Menu on top. If you use one with the Start Menu on the bottom use Xtask. Having these programs will eliminate tons of programs running in the background but give you control over which ones will and won't.

If you're going to try Kumar's, he's coming out with a non-HTC Messaging version of his 1.6 soon. I'm waiting for that and his Titanium version that doesn't have Sense at all to try.
I've heard that the Elegancia w/o HTC Messaging may be an option as well.
Well, if you do decide to eventually sell it...
I'd strongly suggest investing in another Android handset. Perhaps the upcoming, myTouch Slide. It's quite a marvel in comparison to the original fan-favorite, the G1.
The build quality is excellent too, most likely it will feel, "less fragile" and easy to snap than our HD2. LOL!
^^lol no i am okay, think i will stick with the Nexus One, its the phone i always wanted, just decided to wait, because i knew the HD2 was coming soon. Thanks for all the tips guys, i did get an interesting offer, a Nexus One and 200 bucks. it;s tough, thats a nice chunk of money and a good phone lol. Still thinking about it.
I do know i need to try another ROM, this one is slowing my phone down like crazy, i haven't have to do 3 restarts in a day, in a very long time, since my early TP days. but i will try everything you guys recommended first.
I hate to say it but I have the exact same feeling about this phone... I'm Sitting on the fence between selling it and sticking it out. I really just bought it for hardware reasons thinking it was gonna slap it to my TP2 but I'm more into the Android OS. Granted Windows can DO a lot, Android has a market place that I don't have to waste that much money on. In A lot of ways I wish this was a nexus one lol
Currently I'm using the T-Mobile My Touch (rooted) / TP2 - NRG ROM / and now the HD2 - NRG rom blah blah blah

HD2 is the best phone ever. If you are really into it you will feel its power. I like cooking ROMs myself and I really enjoy the feeling of tweaking the phone just like it was made for myself.
Well, to be honest, HD2 is not suitable for everybody. If you want a cellphone that is easy to use, then it may be good to get an Android phone or an iphone.
I bet people who love HTC and Windows Mobile mostly are not afraid of software issue and willing to conquer all the problems. They will eventually make this phone work for themselves.
I remeber testing my frieds winmo 2003 back in high school and getting my first HTC wizard, winmo was beautiful back then I have had 7 winmo phones and You get use to reseting the phoene 5 times a day and dealing with other crap
however when the android came out and it completely change everything Now there was another option (I hate the iphone I think its over priced for a stupid friendly phone that's missing a lot of things that ny PPC2003 was already capable of doing) soon I have to go back to android
YOU SHOULD DO THE SAME unless you can deal with the laggingnes rebooting 5 times a day apps that are not compatible with every winmo phone all on asuper expensive phone (lol with the same money you can get a N1)
i dont understand why everyone keeps saying this phone lags i have had this phone for 2 weeks now and has only frooze up on me once. the only time my phone reboots is when i install a program that is recommended reboot after install. i dont get any laggs what so ever i am a power user from web to games to music videos pictues gps on a daily basis and trust me i know what it is dealing with lagg is because i hated the tp2 it would freeze up everyday take for ever to load programs always error this error that. so i think maybe you should exchange it for another one maybe its that phone.
also maybe it could be that when i 1st got the phone i did all does registry tweak that boost the performance on the phone in the general thread. maybe you should do hard reset and then the registry tweak.

That's a very good deal. I'd be all over that if I weren't using my HD2 as my work device. Hell if I ever ran into a Nexus One for 200 bucks, I'd sell my iPhone in a heartbeat.
Honestly, unless you really need WM functions, and if you can live with a smaller screen, the Nexus One is the way to go. The screen on the Nexus One may be smaller, but that AMOLED screen is lovely....very deep blacks, even though the colors are a little over-saturated. Can't wait till that technology comes over to full sized TV's.
It was quite a change going to the HD2. I sat in the store playing with one for 2.5 hours before I decided to get the HD2. I knew it was going to be a learning experience coming from an iphone to WMobile but I could see straight away the amount of personal customization this has over the iphone. I personally cannot see how anyone can even compare it to the iphone as some do.
I spent nearly 15 hours in the first few days getting to know how to navigate through the phone and the file structure and redoing itunes. I read some great tips on this forum, such as formatting SD card and making all songs Mp3 so as the music player would not freeze and it's not locked up once. It's like a personal computer in my hand next to the iphone. Since I was still on a 2G iphone, the HD2 is so much faster, it's not even funny. No lock ups unless I do not restart after software install or mods. It seems that I have the latest tmo manila. My phone works great and the screen is incredible. It doesn't fit in my pocket like my iphone did but until there's an organic flip out holographic screen of some sort, it's the price I'll pay for the size of the screen.
Took off RTSG(sp) ROM and installed KUMAR's, i must say, Kumar, you saved this phone, your ROM is amazing, i haven't had any problems with it besides a little lag when i go to the home screen from time to time. Man this made me love the phone even more.
Did get an offer off, 400 dollars and a Blackberry 9700 brand new in the box. I was tempted because of the money, but in the end decided to keep my HD2. As long as it keeps running like this, i am satisfied. It's nice when everything is working the way it should be. thanks kumar, and thanks to the rest of you guys who responded to my thread.

I love my HD2!

Hey guys I've been here for years and strangely for the last couple of weeks I've not found myself on this site very much. Why? Because my damn phone is so damn good I haven't the need/urge to mess with the set up I have. I'm yet to unlock it or flash it (although I hear there are some very nice roms out there). My set up is as so:
Standard TMO USA rom.
SPB Mobile Shell 3.5
Quick Menu 2.8 (task manager/program closer).
JZ Mortbuttons
Opera Mobile 10, Opera Mobile 9, Skyfire, Mobile IE
Resco Explorer
Coreplayer
I haven't added any of my other contact programs or anything because this damn phone comes loaded with great programs and runs very, very well. I know some people may ask why did I create this thread? I see a lot of people coming in here complaining about the HD2 and WM 6.5 and I think the satisfied people need to speak up also. The phone is great (needs very few tweaks) and the OS is awesome now that is actually has a processor strong enough to really use it and a screen beautiful enough to show it's shine!
Join me with your I love my HD2 comments. Peace all.
Im with you on this one, people keep telling me to flash android. But there is no need for that.out of the box the phone rinds fine with no problems, and movies finally look good.
This will be my last phone I ever buy.

I would have to say this is the last phone I buy for a while. It fits all my current work and entertainment needs.

Saying it's the last phone you'll ever buy is quite a statement... you know it will die eventually, right? You plan on not using a phone after that?
Also, who keeps telling you to flash android on it? You should let them know that it's impossible to do, because their is no android port for the HD2.
HD2
HD2 is a cool phone, I waited for it since it came out first in Europe. I switched carriers too. I think it needs alot of help. The phone is clumsy to me, on any phone I had I never found myself making so many mistakes typing or scrolling, I seen the difference right away when I went back to my itouch. But I love Winmo plus I already have a that love/hate relationship by having dealt with win95/xp/vista/windows 7 so I figure why not keep it going with the mobile too..HD2 is nice it has made me learn alot about mobile phone software like CABS, Flashing, etc. We will see what impact winmo 7 has on the old 6.5/6.5.x versions. You have to admit you can't never get bored and you can't just change stuff on Android the way you can with winmo..ok im done glorifying..peace
I really like my HD2, it has its quirks but they aren't bad. The screen is amazing on it and whenever I show people it they are blown away. Once some of the issues are fixed, random reception and freezes, it will be an amazing phone.
I love my phone too
I'll keep it until the HD3 comes out
OP, you're from inland empire? Me too!
flashing ROM itself is quite an amusement for me.
HD2 does have a facebook app that I actually like and use.
I read books quite often, and HD2 became my alternative eBook Reader with an app called, Freda. I still have an eBook Reader as my main source of reading material, but on 4.3" screen, it isn't too bad to read on the phone!
Then I do watch lots of MP4 videos and use Youtube.
besides those, everything else is quite standard.
RSS hub, Web Browsing (although on 4.3" screen, it's pleasant to browse), Music Player, and all the things other phones also have.
HD2 is a satisfying device to spend your time on the go.
But it's nothing other phones can't do.
Definitely love mine, had a brilliant email, navigating, talking weekend and it didnt blink, Just need T-Mo to update to 6.5.3 and fix the radio issues and it will be perfect for me.

My wife has one also and her phone freezes while mine doesn't. The only real difference is I use SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 and she uses the standard Sense interface. I think the messaging in the Sense has issues with the OS.

Yep. Nice to see others in our area actually getting the phone!

I personally don't want 6.5.3 because it has the start button on the bottom and that would eliminate me from using QuickMenu as my taskmanager/program closer. Sad huh?
This phone is so awesome to have. I have been roaming around xda-devs for years tweaking, modding, flashing but this thing I have to say is very stable. I have not flashed roms ever since I got it. So far i'm loving the way it handles things and haven't have any freezing unlike what other peoples says. Anyways I couldn't promise I will not be flashing roms coz they're tempting, lol. Cheers..
Quite a phone
I really love this phone, i have had a lot of wm phones but this tops it all. i use it as am mp3 camera browsing .... and so much more. I used to flash all my other phones but i think i will keep the stock rom since i havent had an problems with it.
I'm running Energy ROM on my HD.
Flashed almost every ROM that's compatible with TMOUS, and I think I'm pretty much settled on Energy for now. Problem with the most is the SMS lag. When you get more than 50 messages in one thread, it takes a while to load the conversation you highlighted on the messaging tab. I hated it, since I had to delete them almost every day, since I text a lot.
Energy ROM uses different looking SMS and MMS tab, which eliminated most of my annoyance.
Kudos, Energy ROM
I have to agree with addicus. I've had my HD2 for a over a month now and have had absolutely NO issues (knock on wood) and I'm a HEAVY user. I keep reading these horror stories involving random freezing, SMS issues, reception problems, etc. To date these issues aren't affecting me (knock on wood again). I'm running the stock ROM because it works flawlessly for me. I've installed several apps/mods and am completely satisfied.
I haven't touched my iPhone since buying the HD2. My iPhone contract ends in June and I will not be extending it. Will this be my last phone? absolutely not. I'm definately an early adopter and have to have the latest gadgets. Until then, I LOVE MY HD2!!
It's the screen size and brilliant colors and picture quality and capacitive touch that get me... It's not much different than any other Winmo phone besides that. I also like the Sense UI.
I'm stoked on this phone and if you are afraid to do a hard resets, ROM Flashes, tweaking WinMo, etc, I don't understand what you are doing on this site complaining anyhow... Just buy an Iphone and keep your opinions to yourself...
There is nothing worse about this phone than any other phone if you know what you are doing. Only good things...
Yeah, I love mine too much. I'm spending too much time on it. I think it's a bad thing.
Me and the wife's phone hasn't froze on us yet. We are on stock rom, using Sense UI.
I made a whole DVD of a graduation documentary with just the phone's camera alone. It turned out pretty good. Of course I edited on a PC though.
This phone will last me a while, at least till HD3 comes out.
Also, swype is screwing my typing skills up. The other day I went to use my Desktop and I was swyping on my keyboard. LOL...
