Confused about Camera button + Power vs Home + Power - G1 General

I just rooted my phone and installed all updates. Everything seems to be working just great. Im a bit confused about why when rolling back to RC29 I had to hold Camera button + Power but when I updated to JFv1.42 I had to hold Home + Power.
For all future updates where I have to flash the update, do I continue the Home+Power? Whats the difference?

in both cases there's no need to press the power button, just the camera or the home one.
With the camera button you enter in fast-boot mode, and with the home button you enter in the recovery console, where you can install updates etc. that's the difference.

the multitude of questions would probably be better suited into a single thread instead of creating a new thread for every question
search first .. ask questions later

I see. So what other instance would you use fast boot mode besides rolling back to RC29 with the DREAMIMG.nbh file?

You are sending your hacked phone back to Tmobile? Is it bricked? Hopefully they wont check to see if you hacked it, otherwise you might not get a new phone.

Can't get to recovery image [Android with warning sign appears]

Hi everybody,
This is my first post here and I seriously hope someone can help me.
I unlocked my phone and was attempting to root it and flash Cyanogen's MOD. I flashed Armon_RA's recovery image into recovery partition using fastboot, but when I try to access it I'm getting an image of an android with a warning sign, which I can't post yet because I'm a newbie and mod's have to check my account... Once there the only thing I can do is remove the battery.
I've downloaded Armon_RA's img twice and from different sources and the same thing happens.
In terms of what I did, I tried to follow a step-by-step guide at androidandme.com, combined with Cyanogen's official Wiki.
I appreciate any kind of help,
Thanks!
BTW I'm on Ubuntu 9.10, in case it helps.
Took me like 4 times to flash the recovery before I got the care bear screen. Just keep flashing!
I just got it working right now and was about to post it had been fixed.
Thanks anyway!
Sorry for undigging this thread, but this thread is the first one which shows up when I searched for "android recovery warning".
I have spent the entire day trying to fix my Nexus One's recovery (I got stuck on the screen with a warning sign as well), with no success. Trust me, I tried (almost) everything possible to flash a new recovery/restore stock recovery.
What did work, though, was running fastboot flash recovery recovery.img 5 times in a row (remember to boot your phone in fastboot mode before sending these commands). That did the trick, and now I'm able to boot in recovery mode (Clockworkmod, by the way).
Thanks!

So how can I do a hard reset from this stock recovery when there's no menu commands, how do you use the stock recovery?
I have an unrooted S On nexus one that I need to hard reset because it boot loops for some reason, but didn't want to have to root it.

Push the power button and volume up buttons at the same time

Two buttons together ...
It is a common misconception that you have to push two buttons at the same time to activate some features. Trying to push them at exactly the same time is hit and miss and causes people to have issues.
In every case the combination is always hold one button down and then click the other button once ... much easier than clicking both together.
In this case I believe the combo is hold down power and then click Volume-Up once. (I may have it reversed).

It most likely is reversed. At least when you want to access the bootloader you want to hold down the volume down button (or maybe it is either volume button) and then turn on the phone. And with fastboot, you hold down the trackball as you turn on the phone.
I believe the volume up and powerbutton at the same was to "ok" the phone to apply an update.zip that was stored on the card (I remember doing that when I was running the Froyo build leaks from google).

OzCDN is correct, it is: hold down the power button and press volume up (the reverse does not work), but pushing them both together still works

Trying to upgrade to 2.1, ANDROID 1.0 Driver Failure

I am trying to upgrade to the new 2.1 by means of the .exe file and when the phone tries going into the bootloader, my computer says that the Android 1.0 driver fails to install and the update stops. I am running win 7 pro 64-bit.
I have tried updating drivers, deleting and reinstalling drivers...I am exhausted trying to figure this out. Any ideas?
i would not recommend using that to upgrade, root your phone and then flash one of the custom roms like dc or fresh, i learned the hard way ( i'm stuck on the 2.1)
I am rooted, but when I try to flash a new ROM, I push my volume down button and power button, and when I get the bootscreen, I select the recovery selection, but I then get a screen with a big a phone and a triangle with an explanation mark. What does that mean? I cant get into the recovery.

It is hold down home and power on phone.
You should have the recovery console and then if you put a ROM on your sdcard there is an option to flash that ROM.

2.2 OTA update Failed on Rooted Incredible

My 2.2 OTA failed on my rooted incredible. i got the explanation mark and the little android guy on the front of the screen. i rebooted and im stuck on 2.1. any suggestions?
You either need to un-root and put everything back exactly the way it was, or you need to use a RRU to wipe the phone and put a new system image on it.
I fixed it. Found solution by manually updating update.zip via recovery.

Power off the phone. Start it back up by holding the power+Volume Down buttons at same time. You'll boot into HBOOT. Wait a few seconds for it to scan your card and do it's thing. Then navigate to the Recovery link by using the volume down button. Hit power to select.

[Q] Android 2.2 build i9000XXJPH messed up my T-mobile Vibrant

So I installed this (Android 2.2 build i9000XXJPH) on my Tmobile Vibrant and it worked beautifully, but then I went to root my device through "one-click" and when it got to the part in recovery mode, i tried pressing the power button to apply the update but nothing happened and now I'm stuck in recovery mode all the time, as soon as I plug the phone in to charge, or plug it in the computer via usb, or push the power button, the damn thing goes into recovery mode and stays there. I can use the volume buttons to navigate up and down through the options and if I hold the power botton down long enough the phone will turn off and back on again. But if I press the power button once (as in select an option) it doesn't do anything. I tried every single option out there to get into download mode with the battery out and usb in and volume buttons then put bat in....etc nothing works. I need to get into download mode
anyone?................

Try holding volume -+ then plug in the usb at the same time this should go into download mode.
P.S. dont touch the power button for nothing.
Try these steps:
1. Take out your battery
2. Hold vol up and vol down, continue to hold
3. Insert USB while still holding down the vol buttons
That should get you into download mode (it did for me)
thanks but I already tried that, doesn't work still goes into recovery mode
Does adb work in recovery?
Sent from my SGH-T959
nope it says device not connected
Try the same procedure with the USB cable plugged in. I go into recovery if the cable is unplugged and I go into download mode if the cable is attached. Buttons are always the same. Vol +/- then power until I see the screen show something. Then release power.
Well my friend, u flashing the i9000 rom to ur fone is the problem. They button set up is different they have a big menu button in the middle and we dont. That y u cant move it at all.

make sure your phone can get into download mode before flashing a i9000 rom. If your phone is able to get into download mode before flashing a i9000 rom then it's general impossible to brick your phone by flashing a i9000 rom. After flashed to a i9000 rom, to get to download mode, you hold "volume down" + "soft home key" + "power button" for 3 seconds. If "volume down" don't work, try holding "volume up".
I have done it many times with i9000 roms...the "soft home key" is the touch home icon on the bottom of our Vibrant.

The phone works fine but the volume buttons are flipped, when u press up it goes down and when u press down it goes up, so I know thats not the right one.. anyway i got those firmwares from here "http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm" btw u need to make an account to be able to see them. so my question is, can anyone tell me where to get the original stock firmware to flash with odin? oh and I did try Kies from samsung but the phone will not connect with that for some reason.. anyway any help is very much appreciate it
thaks

I honestly searched for it, and did find few posts but everytime I flashed the phone, it just didn't feel like the right one, so thats why I asked for help here.
Thanks for the link though, much appreciated.
same issue
So i am having the same issue...gonna try to get it into download mode and go back to stock. You (original poster) said you had the Android 2.2 build i9000XXJPH working in your device? I did'nt get that far, that is what has me stuck in this recovery limbo...how did you originally get it to work? And also assuming I work for T-MO, assume that 2.2 is coming out NO time soon!! This kind of is a bummer, I love the vibrant but I think I need to go back to a true android, I can't keep feeling left behind because Samsung cares more about friggin avatar then updating their phones.
Flash the froyo that dont brick your phone (search the forum), and after that flash the stock vibrant.
If you flash a ROM not meant for your phone I'm surprised you made it this far.

toast
Yea i was suprised I made it this far too....BUT now my vibrant is toast!! I had it back to stock, woke up this morning and accidentally accepted the J16 OTA from TMO, and now my phone is done done done....I cant get it to do anything, no lights, camera or action. So having no way to get back to download mode I think Im screwed. This was a problem from the gate, cause Samsung gave me the phone from a learning seminar and the 1st J16 MR soft bricked me. So at this point I have searced every forum I can find and I think Im screwed. NOw if I could only get ahold of my Samsung rep to see if they replace it for me....IF anyone has any strokes of genius to maybe help me out please....

[Q] Help please, can only get to TWRP

I have the D800. I rooted and flashed TWRP. I then tried to flash a rom. Everything was fine but when it reboot the only thing that came up is the LG logo and then the screen goes black.
So when I hold down the power button and the volume down button a couple of times, the factory reset comes on. If i tried to reset, it'll let me into the TWRP. BUT I have no useable rom downloaded.
AND when I tried to plug my phone into my laptop, I get a ton of drives that windows asks me to format. I tried to hold the volume up button to get into download mode but no dice.
My theory is if I could somehow put a new rom into the phone, I could then flash that?
So help please?

the first question I am going to ask you is did you have the common sense to make a backup before trying to flash a new rom. If you did not do this there is a way to fix it
Nope, my big mistake is forgetting to have something else besides the new rom.
So no way at all? Man that really bites.

Make sure your phone is off.. Go to twrp power off setting.. After phone is off hold volume up and plug into computer... Gimmie a min and I'll find that link for the tools

How exactly are you trying to get into download mode? You have to be quick when doing it. It's the power and vol + key. When plugging in your phone to the computer make sure you quickly press and hold vol + and power key. It took me numerous tries to get it done but it worked eventually. Also, do you have all the correct drivers installed for your G2?
