I sometimes get spurts of this happening and a reboot of the phone fixes it. Have you made any changes to your phone lately that would prompt any of this?

no besides rooting it and throwing the scarface theme on. no big chances.

Have you tried to use ChompSMS?
If it works with Chomp and not with the android sms system then you might have a problem... sometimes just a reboot will fix it though.
If it doesn't then it's a connection issue (possibly network).

That could be indicative of a problem source. Like Binary said I would try chompSMS to see if you can replicate the problem. Short of that I would reapply a fresh copy of whatever build you're on (e.g. JF-RC or JF-ADP).

thanx a simple reboot worked.

Crash/Freeze on new SMS

Sometimes, my phone crashes/freezes when a new message is received.
I can see the message notification and read the first few lines in the preview. The promlem then is that I need to reset it and then the message can't be found.
Any ideas?
By any chance, have yoy removed the "messaging" icon from the today screen ?? If you have, just put it back.
I am not too sure if this solution would work for the Prophet, but it definitely did for my Universal. I was damn crazy with this problem and about to sell my universal when I read about this in one of the forum threads on this site and everything has been just fine since then.
Hope it works for you and kind regards

I have (or HAD?) the same problem. Now it's working perfectly (for the last few days).
Try to use a standard tone for incoming SMS (I'm using "Alert2").
Bye!

Interesting.
I'll look into that.
Thank you Corrado.
I am experiencing the same problem while using the Orange Today Plugin on my Dopod 818 Pro, disabled it and never had the problem.

Just so others can help properly it's worth checking that your text messages are not being received despite the message. For a while I got the message cannot be sent messages but in fact they were being sent!

Oooooh! Not good, hope you they were not sent I ended up with repeated messages sent all over the place. Maybe you could check by sending message to yourself.
Mike
well...i sent msg to myself and it works fine, saying "message successfully sent" but all other numbers it still wont go.

I see a reply from qtotter which I don't follow but may well make sense to you. Just in case qtotter does not have the explanation the following may help.
When I had the problem I began to notice that some numbers worked and some did not according to the message sent pop up. (as I said before all were actually being sent).
In my case it turned out to be to do with whether the numbers were on SIM on Phone or had been imported from SIM. As an experiment you could try re entering one of the numbers that appears not to work and saving it. Then try it again, if it's the same as the problem I had you may find the same number now works. Worth a try?
Mike
i guess what qtotter meant was that SMS in Japan is only possible between Softbank(Vodafone) and AU. Docomo doesnt support SMS...
For the x01th (hermes), it is the only phone in Japan without a proper email address connected to the carrier ( at least to my knowledge, maybe Willcom`s awesome W-Zero series has no email...dont know)
About the issue with the sms...i will look into the contact list/ sim issue.
Guess i will send some SMS and Cmails (AU) around.
Thanks for the tipp....

it's more like there is no way to get an address with x01th and use it on x01th by default. firstly, if you put your sim into another sb phone and go to Y!, you can get an account. secondly, if you install an mms client in x01th and set up vodafone/softbank mms setting, you can actually use mms on it. there is still some problem which happens once in awhile, but it works most of the time.
by the way, zero3 comes with an email address.

Nexus Messages Deleting Itself

And no i have the "Delete Old Messages" Unchecked.
It just randomly crashes and then deletes all my texts Also itll get a spell where i cant send messages until i reset the phone. Any ideas?
Its the ATT 3g version. Thanks
anyone know?
Known issue of sorts... It's happened to several people, myself included. The Messaging app will FC, and when you reopen it all threads have been deleted. I'm not sure what causes it, but I haven't had it happen again. Some have stated that they think it may be more likely to happen if you unchecked the delete old messages setting or if you allow message threads to get too large.

Your guess is as good as mine. If you REALLY need to minimize loss of text messages... you can check out the backup options in the Market.

It has happened to me with large amounts of text going over 2000 and sometimes up to 5000 but then FC and BAM they're gone. So Try backing them up every so often.

"129 (1)" ??? what the heck is this text message??

i keep getting this blank text message which has what looks like either my sim or storage card icon next to it. the contact or sender is "129(1)".i dont know if i am missing texts or if this is some weird glitch.

Visual voice mail receives its updates via sms, if the app is installed it will intercept these and you will never see them ...
If you have VVM setup and no longer have the app on the phone due to a custom rom then you will see these messages ...
Easiest thing to do is grab the VVM cab and re-install it ...

thats certainly very interesting. thank you for that however, wouldnt i need to have gotten a voicemail in order for this situation to occur, if we follow your logic?
i have not hasd a voicemail in quite a few days now. iis this a recurring ping via sms or must it be triggered by an actual voicemail?
thanks a lot,
jason

Yes I do believe it is sort of a "Keep Alive" sort of thing and it may also be a trigger to tell the VVM app to check , or for it to send any changes you have made to the settings ...
i set up vvm, still getting this annoying text. surely i am not the only person to ever get this and surely it must be something?
anyone?
jason
i have gotten these too, ever since i switched to custom roms..... but i've learned to just live with it.... still hoping for a solution though
Weird, I got them Until I setup VVM app, then they went away ...
i get the same thing, almost on a daily basis! i've set up vvm but it still sends me these txt... and for some reason i also get previous txts from my gf with the sim icon next to it as well.
I get them every now and then. I have the stock ROM and did not set up VVM. I learned to ignore them. I don't even delete them anymore.

Can't Receive Texts

This has been going on for the past few ROMs I've been on.
It seems I can only send texts but not receive them.
This has happened to me on EE03, EF02, and EG22. (basically any Gingerbread ROM, and not just stock ones)
I have tried changing my modem numerous times, and none seem to fix it.
The only way I can ever receive texts is using Google Voice, but I don't like using a third-party app for such a simple function. I have tried uninstalling Google Voice to see if it was the app that was blocking it, and no dice.
So if anyone knows how I can start receiving messages with the stock app again, please tell me! This has been on-going for far too long.
Thanks, in advance.
Possibly a similar issue you are having.

I'm still using SRF 1.2, so I'm tossing a common resolution here. Have you used a program to clear level 2 ram? Try a reboot and see if you can send MMS again.
