Anyone know how to get the backlight back to the original setting? I tried to go into Settings to Battery Icon and clicked on Backlight and adjusted it there but everytime the phone goes into sleep mode, the backlight always reverts to power saver mode and I cant see a damn thing on my screen. It is very frustrating...anyone know how to correct this problem? Am I doing something wrong???? TIA....M3
I have the same problem, but in my Wisard the problem happens when a soft reset is executed ... I was searching about it on the internet and I found that maybe the problem is an incopatibility between the fone and the SPB Pocket Plus backlight functionality ... I will try to uninstall the SPB to see what happens ...
Here's my backlight bug theory...
On the Wizard there are problems with any programs that try to change the backlight settings and often the result is they end up turning it off.
PocketZenPhone, PhoneAlarm and SPB Pocket Plus all have features to control the backlight (do you have the backlight plugin installed on your today screen?) that load at boot, or on the Today screen, and these seem to cause problems.
I use PhoneAlarm and have problems on occasion. Believe it or not I found the solution was to tell PA to set the backlight at 40% which it can't be set to on the Wizard (25% increments only) and it stops shutting it off. If I have it set for 50% (which *is* valid on the Wizard) it shuts it off.
Anyway this is my theory on the mysterious backlight bug, if anybody else has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them.

If you go to the backlight applet and check the Turn on backlight when a button is pressed or the screen is tapped on both the Battery Power and External Power tabs you should be all set. Had the same issue after the last iMate ROM update and this is what fixed it.
Hope it works for you. Good luck.

I have noticed on wm5 and wm6 that when listening to music the backlight will NOT turn of like on other ppc's? I have to use a button to turn off the light (in coreplayer). With the windows media I cannot add a button as it never works. But why will the screen NOT turn off completely after a given time?
Because of the way the screen is bulid.
I can't explain this exacty, but I've read that this screen is different
from the normal ppc screens.
Without light, you would basically see nothing (even in sunlight).
You could attacht SPB's "Screen Off" (from SPB Pocket Plus Actions) to a hardware key (to be able to turn it off when using WMPlayer)
Is there an easy way to change the screen brightness. I keep mine set to minimum all the time to conserve power but when I go outside sometimes I can't see the screen due to reflection. Turning up the brightness obviously helps but the snag is I can't see the screen to hit the right menu options to turn it up.
I have spb mobile shell installed but the screen brightness button on that has no effect. I also tried mapping the volume rocker to screen brightness using AEButton plus but that didn't do anything either.
Has anyone come across a quick way of doing this on the HD?
These are my current customizations and turning off screen taps save me too much battery. It is important to turn those settings off because if you tap on the screen, the speaker will stay on for 1.5 second each and every time. You can hear the 1.5 second hiss if you listen closely. Disabling it makes my Xperia lasts almost forever.
Keep:
S2U2
SPB Diary on Today Screen
Alarm Master on Today Screen
Date on Today Screen
Uninstall:
Phoneweaver
Hourly Chime
Touch Flo 3D
Wisbar Advance
Turn Off:
Screen Taps Sound (each tap will eat your battery 500% more than without sound)
Hardware Buttons Sound (verbatim from above)
Auto adjust backlight
Modify:
Backlight is constant at 80%
Turn off backlight if device is not used for 10 sec
Turn off device if not used for 2 minutes
Habits:
Never turn off your phone to save battery if you are carrying the phone
Only turn off your phone if you are in the movie theater or if away from phone
What's "forever" for you? What do you do with your phone?

It lasts 1.5 hours longer on media playback
2 hours longer on games
2.5 hours longer on business activities
5 hours longer on standby
Sounds good, but why does auto adjust backlight drain the battery quicker?

was wondering that my self too - maybe because its calculating info from the LDR and such? Is the 80% what it is usually at because that seems pretty high

Oh, it's just an assumption. I'm only guessing that the ambient light sensor is no longer automated and therefore it takes less processing. And constant lighting allows for the light to not need to adjust itself.
Background applications and automatic function and unnecessary bits waste battery

I chose 80% because I want my screen constantly bright and when in the dark doesn't burn my eyes.
is there any way to shut off the sound that the lock/hang up key generates while on the today screen?
that also produces a bit of a short sound wave.

or never turn it off at all... standby barely uses any power and turning it on again uses a lot. Just sayin'

Yes, follow my Steps:
1) Press Call
2) Tap Menu
3) Tap Options
4) Look for "Keypad:"
5) Change the "Keypad:" option with OFF.
6) This will turn off the end key and the numeric keys.
7) Seriously though, if you want to disable the end key tone but keep the numeric key tones active, then you obviously have no logic at all.
8) Chances are that you dial the numeric keys more often then you press the end call button. Might as well turn if all off.
9) Since you know that the end key is pressed very rarely you might as well not mind it being enabled as a tone (especially if you need tactile hearing for the dialpad).
Therefore the end key is not a very big battery drainer.
Also I have a Samsung SCH-i760 Windows Mobile phone and when I press a numeric key / end key / or enable button and tap tones... there are no 1.5 second hissing noise. The stereo speakers are always inactive. This is a major flaw that causes your Xperia to lose a lot of battery very quickly. Perhaps this is how all mono speakers work? Does anyone know?
I was referring to the physical button.
probably should have been more specific, but it's fine, I barely touch it anymore!
and thanks for the tips, although the remark about me having no logic was hurtful.
Haha, sorry but the title of driving me crazy. It should be either; "Yes! Now my battery lasts longer." or "My battery lasts longer now(, or : or Yes!". Still it works better the first way. Sorry hah, it's just one of those things that keeps repeating itself over and over in my head.
USB Charge
I have got some experience with the battery charging.
Using USB charge or any charger with 500MA can make my x1 live 30min long than the original battery charge.
On the side volume toggle button it increases the ringer and the system volume in big stages (20%) is there a way of making it follow each bar at a time rather than jumping up 20% each time?
In the actual settings you can adjust the system volume by 1% increments, you cannot do this for the ringer!!!!??? it still jumps in 20% increments!!! why? and is there a way around it?
Am i the only one that finds this pants?
I would say so, yes. Because I haven't come across a phone that would let you change the ringer volume in 1% increments. All mobiles I've had in the past have 5 or 6 bars and that's it.
I also feel you wouldn't hear the difference between 60% and 61% ringer volume.
If you use the button, you get the big increments. However if you press the volume button up or down, then use your finger on the screen, you can adjust to each of the bars shown (about 15 of them).
Hopefully this will be enough increments?

I gave this advice to someone recently, and it's totally true, unless you have separate volumes for system and ringtones. The system on can be moved 1 bar at a time, but the ringtone one can't - it moves about 3 or 4 bars at a time.
You can do it with more accuracy is the sound & display settings, in the settings tab.

Nice one mate, that's great. Although you can't do that with the ringer volume, still jumps in big stages.
I wasn't after 1% increments in the ringer inparticular but 20% jumps is a bit drastic, was just thinking it would have made sense to be able to adjust both in the same way.
But your find is exactly what i was after, thanks
@ John & bcorgan,
Given that there are countless threads on here about this, and other volume related issues, does one of you want to pm tboy200 to add both your posts to the Hints & Tips thread on here? That way you both get the glory but, more importantly, we might be able to head off another load of threads on this subject.
Let me know.
Cheers
