Planning to buy the MyTouch 4G off contract and use the Even More Plus plan.
Currently the Unlimited Text + Data + 500 Min = $59.99
But it looks like T-Mobile will be coming out with new tiered data plans on Nov 14th with no restrictions on smartphones and plans:
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/11/t-mobile-adding-data-plan-to-new-data-lineup/
Will I be able to switch to the new data plan (ie. $10-15 for 200MB) once the new plan comes out (so $39.99 for Text + 500 Min.. and +$10-15 for data)?
Or should I just wait until Nov 14th to buy the MyTouch 4G?
One last thing: Are there any 3rd party retailers that will sell the phone off contract? Seems like most places I checked (wirefly, costco, Target, etc) all require a 2yr contract.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
Costco will more than likely do an Even More Plus plan in which you buy the phone outright and open up a new account. You get more minutes and/or a cheaper plan in return. You usually save around $20/mo. The EM+ plans are contract-free. Costco still requires that you open up a new account with new phone number, which you can always terminate anytime. I did that with my Vibrant.
Well since the Even More Plus plan is no contract, you can get the unlimited data plan now and switch to the cheaper data plan later. Also your numbers might be wrong since both add up to $60 a month, and it wouldn't make sense to get unlimited and tiered data plans for the same price...
@floepie: I actually stopped by Costco today. Was told they will only sell on contract. I've purchased phones from Costco before. If I was going the 2yr contract route I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.
@ArcticWolf91: Yeah the ability to switch is what I wasn't sure about since I've never been with TMo and am new to these no-contract plans. But most likely that's what I'll do. And yeah I had the pricing wrong..and looking at it now I think it'll only save about $5/month between the tiered and unlimited so not really worth it.
Thanks for the help guys!
You won't be able to use a full android phone with the lessed data plan.
They have two classifications -
"Media oriented" android phones aka mytouch 4g - $30
Basic android phones LG Optimus/Huwai - $10
According to TmoNews, the data plan restrictions might change on Nov 14th:
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/11/t-mob...w-data-lineup/
So you're saying even the T-Mo stores refuse to sell to you at full price? That's not cool. I would say go to BestBuy, but they usually inflate their off-contract price vs carrier MSRP so as to weed out non-contract sign-ups.
**EDIT**
Dude, i just went to Tmobile.com and you can buy it off contract for $449.99, plus sign up for the EM+ plan.
Why not do that?
Nov 14th 200mb data is 10, ultd is 30 for ANY phone... you CAN Chang to it whenever... its a promo so requires contract extension, but doesn't mess with equipment upg eligibility date... also tethering drops on the 14th for 14. 99

Didn't work for me.. The rep said down at the bottom, that the phone number that is being offered the promo is listed but its blank in the link. Apparently VZW is locking down on who they are offering this to.
It is only available for people who aren't under contract with Verizon at this time. I just spoke to a CSR rep and tried to get him to extend my contract under the terms in the link but since I am still under contract with Verizon for 2 years they wont offer it to me. Worth a shot though, bummer.
Not so much
Sounds good, and saving money is saving money, but this would be somewhere around $5.00 discount for those of us on the $39.99 450 minute plan, 29.99 data plan, and $5.00 (that's the saving part) texting plan. Wouldn't lose sleep over the link not working.
This worked for me a few days ago and I just opened my account in the summer on contract. Had to call the 877 number for sure though because regular customer service kept giving me the runaround.
With work discount, comes to $59.49 a month before taxes.
I'm all over this. $55 month with my work discount.

Here's what the deal really is:
It's the exact same prices as normal Talk and Text plans, either single line or family plan (700 minute family plan isn't offered- have to get at least 1400), except every line has to get the $30 unlimited data plan, but then each line automatically gets a $20 bill credit per month, leaving you paying $10 for unlimited data per line. It only saves you money if you have a better-than 1:3 ratio of smartphones:total lines on your account. Example: 1 single line that has a smartphone is a 1:1 ratio so they save money. 1 smartphone on a 2-line family plan is a 1:2 ratio so they save money. 1 smartphone on a 3-line family plan breaks even, etc.
It's only supposed to be given to customers who got the email about it- they can look up all promotional material that's been sent to you and verify that you received it so this is definitely YMMV. There's a pretty nice thread going on over at SlickDeals that I've been posting a lot in- lots of success stories and ways to help you get it, etc.- check it out..

Nope, anyone can get it, even ones who didn't get the promotional email. But yes your chances are a lot better if you're out of contract, or soon will be..
I just signed my new contract this march. Called last week on this and they hooked me up with the family line. Added the unlimited text and saved $30 a month so worked for me.
Also the 1400 family plan still has friends and family...
Sent from my Virtuous Incredible
I need to do the math but sure looks like this would save me money. I have the 1400 minute plan. 2 Incredibles with unlimited data and two regular family share lines. $5.00 unlimited text. 17% corporate discount.
I'm going to call and let them do that math. I have an NE2 due. Maybe I'll try and leverage that.

The math would be:
$110 primary line - $18.70 discount = $91.30
$10 data plan
-----------------------------
$101.30
$10 2nd line
$10 data plan
-----------------------------
$121.30
$10 3rd line
$10 data plan
------------------------------
$141.30
$10 4th line
$10 data plan
------------------------------
$161.30 plus tax and extras for 4 lines
Not sure what you mean by $5 unlimited text so I can't tell you what you're paying now, so you may or may not be saving money depending on what texting package(s) you have..

Not true.
I'm under contract and got the deal. I also wasn't send the ad... but I snaked my way in without much effort.
It's a great deal and something that should continue. A single line shouldn't cost $100+ for a smartphone. That is too much... this is perfect.
Cricket
For $45 a month at Cricket you can have all this with no contract. Just look for the Cricket ROM in the Incredible forum and it has everything you need to make it work with Cricket. I really love the peace of mind you get when you don't have to count minutes and you're not stuck in a contract. Plus you can use just about any CDMA phone with their service.

It worked for me and I just started my service on Friday I called and told the that I saw the add and was wondering if I could get it and that I just started my service on Friday and they said that I could and they said as long as I kept the same plan I would get the discount till the promotion ran out in 2035
I called the 877 number, tried to get the deal today and was told that it was only for those that received the email.
I signed my first contract with verizon back in august. Got my plan changed to this in under 5 minutes. I did go with the 1400 plan, and had to pay an extra 20 for a third line. But I still saved $30 a month and added data to my third line.
I did not recieve the promo email either...
Just got the deal. I did not receive the email.

Call again. I called this morning and the first guy told me I wasn't eligible. I called 5 minutes later and got some girl, and it wasn't hard to convince her to let me in on the deal.
I have a two lines both with DINC's, with my 20% work discount I am only paying $118 before taxes. That's less than $60 per phone!! Heck yeah...
FWIW, I am still 17 months away from the end of my contract and I did NOT recieve the email. I called and it was without a doubt the SMOOTHEST FASTEST interaction I've EVER had with VZW CS. To put that in perspective, my dogs have fled the room when I've called them in the past. 10 minutes later I logged on and all changes were shown.
So ... I've been with VZW for years, though I doubt I'm special in that regard, and I got this deal no fuss no muss. Perhaps I was sent the offer and it hit my spam box, but no mention about the email was made by me or the rep.
Everyone should try, and then maybe try twice.
Just tried for a second time and was again denied...
I called the day the flyer was first posted on BGR. I got the deal right away by calling the phone number. Before, I was paying 190 for 3 lines, two with data, all unlimited messaging. Now, I am paying 160 for all three lines with unlimited data and texting. This is really $60 in savings, as we would have been charged $30 bucks more a month to add data to the third line. This was a great deal.
Looking into going on a no contract plan with tmobile. Mainly to be able to use the 4g services and tether with it alittle at home.
Either one of the following, both unlimited text & data
500 min, data, text @$59.99
1000 min, data, text @69.99
Was told two different things about applying a discount of 15%/month from an employer. One rep told me that I could do so, and another at a different store over the phone told me it wouldn't work. Does anyone know the answer to this, any tmobile reps? Looking to possibly make switch over by end of the week, but work is too busy to get up to the store.
Currently unlock on local carrier and I have strong coverage throughout the area, typically average around 2.3-3.2 mbps download speed, and .8-1.5 up.
500 min, unlimited text/data @55 with taxes.
I work for T-Mobile and I have heard the same thing honestly some people told me you can some told me you cant but I have only ever applied them to a contracted plan never a no contracted. I would say I have heard yes you can more then no you cant but the reason I heard for no is the same one over and over, no contracted plans are already discounted no more discounts can be applied.
will give it a try hopefully this weekend, probably just get a temporary number for a day or so and test the service out. Rep seemed pretty confident he could apply the discount, if no I still may consider tmobile. If service isn't solid at home then Ill probably just stick with what I have
No-contract plan
I get an employer discount of 10% on my no-contract plan (minutes + unlimited data)
What about student discount, anyone using one for no contract
You will not receive a discount on even more +. Hope this helps.
Crackflashers don't need changelogs sent from my HTC Glacier.
tmobile ? or ???
Okay went ahead and called another store samething I could apply my discount to the no contract plan.....
Called customer care about a discount through my former university and was told I had to be an employee, asked her what do you need to verify that by and its just an email. So I can use my old email to set up a discount ONLY on a contract plan. Good 20 minute conversation with this rep. VERY VERY helpful. I will not be able to use ANY discount on a NO CONTRACT plan . Although the reps at the store told me otherwise. May just test it out to see if itll work or not.
Would like to get some faster 3g-4g speeds since I'm tethering with the phone. Options I'm considering currently, with carriers......all text/data unlimited
CBW (local)....500 min text/data @$55 with tax 3g only for now??? 4g no clue when, roam onto tmobile 4g & at&t when out of coverage
Tmobile (no tax yet)
even more NO contract.... 500min text/data $59.99
1000min text/data $69.99
2 year contract 15%discount 1500min text/data $67.99
what phone to get or wait a month or so for new one???
Sprint for the evo (2 year) 22%
450min text/data $64.59 plus
Verizon (2 year) 23%
450min text/data $53.89 plus tax.... 3g only though
Leaning towards to tmobile still for the 1500 min with contract, although I still want to try discount with no contract. See if itll get by or something
Could get another phone with 2 year contract with tmobile and sell one.
Costco deals
g2 or mytouch 4g both at $99.99 with 2 year plan. Have possible trade of my current mytouch 4g for a nexus s.

So I'm interested in the Motorola Atrix 4G from AT&T but their plans are expensive. I can get the almost the same plan from T-Mobile for $15 less a month though I don't like their Android phones.
Nation 450 w/Rollover® Minutes - $39.99
DataPlus 200MB for HSPA+/4G Smartphones - $15.00
Unlimited Messaging with Mobile to Any Mobile Calling - $20.00
Comes out to $75 a month, T-Mobile has basically the same plan here for only $60 a month. I already have my home phone and my TV through AT&T and have been a customer with them for almost 5 years. Would AT&T discount me at all for having, home, cell, and TV with them? Also would they compete with Costco for the price of the phone ($200 at AT&T, $120 at Costco).
Thanks to everyone for the help!
from my experience with att that would be a no. however can always give it a shot. talk to sales not customer service though.
i had an at&t store tell me the other day they wldnt sell a smartphone off contract it really varies from one person to the next at at&t u can ask one person and they will say no move over 2 feet to the next person and they say yes so good luck just ask more than one person at at&t likely to get a yes
Don't get your hopes up. It isn't likely. I am a 20+ year customer, and the person on the other end just humphs at that. No, they don't care about customer loyalty at all. I went for a captivate in nov and wanted to stick with my unlimited plan. No way, forced me to take the plan( without telling me). I backed out, gave them the phone back, and reverted to my old plan. They would not give me the old unlimited plan back, and at that time only thing they were doing was the 2gb max + $10 for the next gig for overage. I told them to forget it, I was gonna switch to a competitor and they said ok. I thought that was real crappy. My phone was hurting and I needed to move, so I went with the Atrix last week. I regret my decision already, and can't give them the phone back without a 35% restock fee, per the in store salesrep.
Plus keep in mind that they deny throttling service on non-Iphone "4g". Liars.
It varies on who you talk to IMHO. You might get lucky with a CS rep if you tell them you already have service with AT&T. Like I said YMMV. Good luck
Hello. I just felt the need to respond to this. I am a market manager for an authorized retailer of AT&T. I have five stores under my guidance. Yes, you can receive a discount because you have your home services with AT&T. To be quite honest though, it is not a steep discount, but it is a discount. If you combine the wireless and home services on the same bill, you will get a discount of $5 off each service. Also, depending on who you work for, you may be eligible for a discount as well off your rate plan, data plan and texting. For example...Bank of America employees receive 15% off of the primary line's rate plan, texting and data.
As for the cost of the phone, unfortunately no, the store you are dealing with will not match the $120 price for the Atrix. What I will caution you on is when dealing with purchasing a device outside of an AT&T store or the att.com site, you may (and I say may) end up with some weird things happening to your account. Also, be careful there is no fine print. For example...if you buy an AT&T phone on amazon.com and it is only an individual line...if you decide later you need a second line and try to do a family plan, well that doesn't fly with amazon.com. They will charge you an early termination fee because you got the phone at a much lower price through amazon.com then you would have at a store. Strange I know, but that's why I always give people this anology...would you go to a cell phone store to buy a car??? Then why go to somewhere that does not specialize in cellphones to buy one??? Just experience talking in this matter.
I will chime in on this post as well. The person you dealt with that took away your unlimited data was dead wrong. All the reps that work for me will tell you and have done it...if someone has unlimited data prior to the change last year and does an upgrade, there is the option to keep it. I take that as poor training from that reps manager. When we are going through our system to complete the upgrade, it will automatically try to change the unlimited $30 data to the 2gb $25 data. However, the rep has to hit "modify features" button and it gives them all the data plans. If the current plan has unlimited data, the unlimited data option appears. If the current plan does not have unlimited data, the option will not be present.
I'm glad to be a college student. My bill is like 83 dollars with tax and all now with the student discount they have. Its basically 15% off of the monthly bill.
it's really swell that the reps say no it would not happen with them, I appreciate that you feel that way, so did the people I dealt as they really tried to put the unlimited plan back. It wasn't them, it was corporate crap. None of them could get it to come back up as an "option" when returning the phone and asking to be put back just like i was before the transaction. I talked to two reps online and then one at the B&M store. They were all miffed also, but the fact of the matter is AT&T burned me, and 20+ years didn't mean sqwat. I have to stop now, or I'll start with them crippling capabilities on the phone, or throttling data when you exceed their threshold, or...
Just wanted to let everyone know that I guess as of July 1st, if you bring in your own compatible phone to T-Mobile you can get up to the following
For $70 a month:
Unlimited Talk/ Text
Up 5GB of Data (throttled above 5GB)
Direct Link:
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-plans
As I am currently on Verizon, I plan on getting the AT&T 4G Xperia PLAY, after my contract expires in 4 months and will most likely switch to the above plan as it will save me about $30+ a month and I will get more data and text/Voice then currently. Can confirm that the HSPA+ frequencies between TMO and AT&T are the same
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: Here Althoug the above information is correct, this is the real PLAN I was talking about, my apologies a family member told me about this but sent me the wrong link. Here is the real deal.
My apologies the links i gave you were not for the real deals.

t-mobile Value Plan $100 for 5 lines (2 unlimited talk/text/data 2GB at 4G, 3 lines 500 minutes each) via add a line $0 value, $5 classic, free nights&weekends, to other t-mobile

The promo offer is good for all Classic and Value plans that have shared limited buckets of minutes and the 500-minute AAL on unlimited family plans. Free nights and weekends, and other t-mobile.
Notes/Fine prints:•Good for both new and existing customers, and of course it requires a two-year contract. Existing customers will be required to change their existing rate plan and extend their contract on all lines to take advantage of this promo. A quick reminder that a contract extension for a rate plan change does not affect your upgrade date for a new phone
•No grandfathered features (no myfav, no tzone, no web2go, no ...etc).
•Tax+fees depending on your location, +12% in CA. Some military or corp -5% to -20% discount.
•You do NOT need to get all 5 lines, but current promo gives you 3rd, 4th and 5th discount until Jan 2, 2014. Pricing will not change if you only get less line. After Jan 2nd, 2014, you will have to pay $5 extra for each 3rd, 4th and 5th.
•Once you are on Value plan, current t-mobile policy will not allow you to get back to plan which offer subsidy in future. So once you are in value plan, you will always have to buy devices yourself.

.....
Give me some love...rep me if you find this a good deal
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Classic plan also have this promo benefit, but monthly will be slightly more, BUT YOU GET BETTER DISCOUNT on smartphone. Value plan customer needs to buy smartphone at "retail price". In my location, costco retail price on smartphone is cheaper than t-mobile retail store.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO GET THIS DEAL
A.If you are still in contract t-mobile customer, call t-mobile directly for the add-on promo. If you are interested in value plan, they will have to check if you qualify for value plan. Check migration fees below. For NEW customer, I would recommend going personally to costco or tmobile retail store. Update, just learn this myself on 7/5: You can get this online. Put the package into the cart first and then customize each line at checkout.
B. IF you are interested in value plan and planning to get a smartphone at costco, eg Samsung S3, do steps below:
1. First make sure you qualify: out of t-mobile contract or less than 6 months left on t-mobile contract or new t-mobile customer or currently value plan customer wanting add-a-line, AND (access to costco membership and data plan)
2. Goto local costco. Tell them that you wanted value plan and wanted smartphones as well, eg Samsung S3 ~$390 each. Do your transactions. New activation is free, not sure about existing add-a-line customer. Sim is free.
3. Go home, make sure everything works and happy. If you have corp/military/eduction discount..etct, then call t-mobile CS. They should be able to apply for you.
4. T-mobile retention may not help you as much because of value plan. They may lower down the phone price, BUT t-mobile retail smartphones are generally more expensive to start with, eg: Samsung S3 is $630 vs costco at $390.
C. You DO NOT need to goto costco to get the value plan and classic plan deal. You can get value plan or classic plan along with smartphone anywhere, eg: t-mobile store, amazon wireless, walmart, ...etc. Major differences is the pricing of the smartphone. Where and when (eg: black friday) you signup or extend your contract determines your smartphone "discount" price. You can always buy at independent market like google nexus at google play or ebay or craigslist or amazon store. Costco is only mentioned here because they have great smartphone price when u activate/signup there.
My experience shows that being nice to the salesperson or cs makes getting the deal easier, especially retention

Can I ask though, is that for a 3 year contract? And... these above prices are way cheaper then what Verizon charges.... which is BS. I have 4 family members on a single plan, $250 for 4 phones with unlimited data...... talk about grabbing your ankles.
No its a telus pre paid package
Yes. Mobile packages in America suck. But there is price collusion between all the networks so we have no real choice.
