Battery Drain - S2U2 1.50d or Dutty's - Touch HD General

So, my battery has never done great but it was lasting through 24 hours with 20-35% still left.
I recently changed to Dutty's 2.0 and S2U2 1.50d. Now, I left home yesterday at 6am, returned at 5pm and was down to 30% already!
I've uninstalled S2U2 and overnight, on very dummed down settings, it still dropped to 81%!
I did read on the S2U2 that some people had massive drain and even uninstalling didn't help. Unfortunately, both Dutty and S2U2 have massive long threads which make it very hard to find what you need and any requests are often lost in the avalanch of posts, so, can anyone suggest what has gone wrong?
I'll try putting S2U2 1.45 back on and see what happens.

Sprint Diamond battery display - help

Hi guys,
I've been lurking here since I got my Sprint Diamond last week and have already used a few programs from the developers here. Thanks for all the hard work.
So I installed FInixIOver's battery icon from this thread and love the new look. One issue I have seems that it's a Sprint Diamond issue. The Battery displays in increments of 10%. I've searched and couldn't find if anyone has come up with a fix to see 1% increments. I was just wondering, thanks in advance.
Any luck?
---> shameless bump
the cdma diamonds only have a 10% battery driver.
search google for no2chems 1% battery dll, although beware, it is inaccurate from 90%-100% charge, and when you take your phone off the charger it will immediately display 93%. it is very annoying.
Ah, thanks a million. I'll give that a try and see if it's any more annoying than the 10% display.

[Solved] Battery usage

So im trying to figure out where my battery is draining to... I cannot go a full day on a battery charge and its really annoying at night it jsut dies and plus i cant really do too much on it for fear of battery drainig itself. Is there a way.. i can check to see what might be taking up battery
Wifi off
GPS Off
no 3G in the US
Bluetooth Off
Push Mail off... (though am syncing 3 mail accounts every 2 hours... minimal mail though)
Internet usage 30 minutes (besides, weather stocks)
Phone usage .. about 60 minutes in the day
Gyrator on
General usage.. games, tinkering etc (60 minutes... hey its still relatively new)
Appreciate the input.
Strange..
I've got two mail accounts, talked for 15 minutes with a bluetooth headset (been connected all day).
From 06 in the morning until now at ten in the evening I still have 7 bars on the battery. (three in the TF3D)
Consider doing a hard reset and set up stuff and see if that helps..
After tinkering for a couple of weeks, I hard reset and just put back on what I want. I also used Tweak HD which has a few tweaks to lengthen battery life. It made a big difference to me.
Orinigally it had drained in about 18 hours, afterwards it went slightly over 40 hours.
this is strange - i use my phone alot and it easily lasts 2 days
have you tried replacing it? when i bought my first diamond it was faulty, replaced it and batteyr life changed
also try flashing a stock rom on again and see what happens - less than a day - defo not right!
diamond v hd
had 3 diamonds, battery was lucky to last 10hrs, ate 2680mA battery packs like jaws ate boats!
HD, charge 1 every 2 days.... huge improvement... would love it to last longer, but its a million times better than the diamond and thats all that matters...
HD battery life in conclusion, is great, and i do hammer my phone usage!
I'm seeing similar battery issues as the OP. I barely make it through a 12 hour day on a charge, although I get a lot of e-mail on 2 accounts (one checked every 15 minutes, the other every 2 hours). In an effort to track down battery drain, I downloaded and installed HomeScreen PlusPlus and find that at rest with screen intensity at 60% my HD draws 150 mA, with the screen dimmed at 10% it draws 70 mA, and in standby (blank screen) it's drawing 30 mA. When the data connection is active, it draws between 250-300 mA, and when using the phone with screen on about 400 mA. I figure that with those numbers and a 1350 mA battery, 10-12 hours is all I can expect. If anyone else is monitoring their battery draw, I would appreciate seeing your numbers for comparison.
Oooh this is a good idea...
anyone else done homescreen++ to find battery drainage.. im going to get to it this weekend...
Have the same issue.... I have nothing special installed and for some reason it drains very fast on basic features.....
Same issue here
Recently I've been getting less than 12 hours out of a full charge. I've uninstalled a few things and turned bluetooth and wifi off and today it seems better with about 80% left after 10 hours
Vaguely considering a hard reset if the problem continues...
have fixed certain aspects now using the new version of Tweak HD
For our benefit.. could you please tell us...
1) your version of Tweak HD
2) WHat did you do to improve battery life
Thanks
Progress
So I installed Homescreen++ to be able to monitor my battery utilization... and im averagin 150mA to 350mA with it being closer to 300mA most of the time... no wonder I am getting 10-12 hours of battery life.. and this is with the device not doing anything.. except cehcking mail accounts.. NOTHING else...
I really need help with this.. every night at around 9:00pm.. i am without battery and its driving me nuts...
short of a hard reset... what can I do to monitor what programs or processes are taking up my battery?
I really feel your pain. I must recharge during the day everyday. I've ordered a second battery, but it hasn't arrived yet. I've done all I can do with HD Tweak and Schap's Advanced Config, even turned the screen brightness down further to no avail. I don't want to hard-reset, but I'm going to give that a try this weekend. Before I do, If any of you experiencing good battery life has a few moments and is willing to install HomeScreen ++, please post your numbers to compare to ours (mine are in a previous post). The download link is:
http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_batterystatus_xda_neo_wm5_im_cs.htm#Download
It can easily be uninstalled through "Remove Programs" later.
Thanks in advance for your help; I am so enamored with this amazing device that I can't bear to give it up!
Battery life much better than my Kaisers...

Apparently Batti uses a lot of battery (ironically).
I've just replaced it with Ariel battery and will let you know how it goes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364278
I'm not running Batti.
I have been through an Apache, a Blue Angel, a Hermes and most recently a Kaiser before springing for this amazing Blackstone. All my previous devices made it through at least a full day before requiring a recharge.
My ROM is 1.14.405.3 and Radio is 1.09.25.14
I'm thinking of springing for the HD, I currently have a Hermes. Battery life is a major concern of mine, and on my Hermes I had to purchase a larger battery with the extended back plate.
Does the HD turn off the screen when not in use or is it on all the time? Also how does it do with WiFi on?

Battery\power consumption issue

hi, i am having a bit of a problem, i have searched the forums but could not find much relevant. my X1's battery is really struggling.
On one occasion i managed to get 22 hours out of it, but the average is between 9 and 12. I lock my keypad and turn the backilight off when its in my pocket, i have it set to update rss and e-mails every 4 hours, i downloaded an app that switches the modem connection off after 1 mins idle time, i never use wifi and i haven't even been making any calls, and dont use any apps, ie games ect. i send a few sms, and after 9 hours away from a power supply, my hungry beast is down to 10% battery. i can not work out where my power is going. as i said i have searched the forums, and my phones settings, but can not find anything to help. if there are threads with answers please link me to them, or if you can help, please tell me
1) are there any power management apps that i can download to monitor and control the power usage
2) is there anyway to prevent the modem auto connecting whenever it finds an Edge\Gprs|hsdpa\whatever signal, as i am convinced this is the main culprit. even with rss\email updates switched off, the phone is ever connecting to the network
3) how are people who claim to be getting 24 hours+ with extensive browsing, calling, gps'ing and wi-fi'ing actually achieving this
4) would the rom firmware update help with my problem
(apologies, the question mark key on my laptop has returned to the big keyboard in the sky!)
any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated, as i am afraid to use the awesome features my phone has, for fear it will die.
thanks a lot
Have you got any shell applications runinng (TouchFlo, full SPB)?
Else sounds like your battery is fooked.
Weird
Well, how long have you had it? In my first week I was getting about the same, but now in my second week it's improving with charge/discharge cycles.
I don't use data connections but use Wifi/BT quite a bit and listening to music and it will last a day now.
Trying using just edge and lower your screen brightness to 20-30% when you use it.
I had a similar problem when I updated to the R2 ROM and installed some applications... primarily AEButton plus and S2U2 (although I believe it was AEButton that was the culprit here...), I would get 13 hours or so before the phone went down to 30% from full charge... I uninstalled both programs and then got 84 hours with moderate use (lots of sms, few mb internet and a few calls (about an hours worth)... so I am wondering if you have either of these installed or if its an app that is causing the problem... (I now have AEButton 2.6.6 installed and after 6 hours its only dropped 10% with quite a bit of internet use (mainly edge) and a few sms's)...

I've tried S2U2. And as I've stated in another thread, it is indeed a battery drainer.

That's not true at all. Just activate the energy saving option.
My battery lasts for 5 days now, longer than ever before. Cannot say if it's the effort of S2U2, but it's definitely not draining faster than without it.

Energy saving option?
EDIT: Just found out I'm running a really old version. Updating
had the phone for about 3 weeks now, tried charging and draining it a few times, still on the vanilla ROM, and i did have one of the interfaces installed (cant remember what it was called, not touch flo though) but i removed it. i hope the battery is not tits, but how can i test. i will try the brightness\edge only thing, so as for my 4 questions, no answers then(question mark)
thanks for the advice!
Guys,
I have installed SPB Phone Plus, Inesoft software and digital clock on my X1, do you mean that it will consume more battery power with these programs installed?
I notice that my X1 now only last a day while before the R2AA upgrade, it can at least last me 2 days.
Mine had the same problem during the first week or so. Now i can leave it 12 hours without charging and if i don't touch it, the battery stays at the same level.
eh, how come u all battery so fast flat 1??
mine can stay for almost 1 day.. listen to music always.. always connected to HSDPA/3G/EDGE/GPRS... listen music through wired, play game little while.. no wifi..
in da morning 7am, full... go skool, listen music whereever i can.. surf net.. then come bak to home at 6.. is got around 4bar of "power" settings ther..
I've also had a problem with my battery. It wouldn't last through the night. I installed a process monitor this morning and I suspect the culprit is S2U2 v1.37. I've just updated it to v1.45 and I'm about to test again.
For those using this version what settings do I need to enable Power Save? Is it just the registry entry or should I be changing something else in the settings?
I had been worried about the battery before I bought my X1 and I ran across a WM 'bug' which could be the problem (I'm sorry, I don't have the source because it was a while ago and I was just browsing before I bought).
It said that when WM runs for the first time it presumes full battery power and so will charge to whatever level the battery is at at the time and no higher.
Some people resolved this by either:
1) Charging when the device is off to increase the maximum charge
2) Hard resetting the device and fully charging before the first switch on.
I have to say, I use 1 hour of video, 15-30 minutes calls, 10-20 texts, 30 min web browsing, email/weather etc updates every 2 hours, 30 minutes 'bumming about' (games, file copying, tweaking) every day and get at least 2 days of use.
Overnight, (ie when not being used and for 8 hours) I have never dropped a bar of power.
I do not run any additional programs in the background, apart from the spb panel.

Well I tested this and I can confirm that v1.45 of S2U2 does indeed save power. My battery was 90% last night and was the same this morning.

the power save in s2u2 is quite annoying isn't it? i had that on and when im listening to music through the media xperience panel, it just goes to lock the device (when the idle time is up) and stop the music. Its annoying as hell.
Plus whenever im watching videos (still with the panel), it just lock the device again.
Thats it, no s2u2 for me. Uninstalled it right after that
i had the same problem until i installed a cooked rom on it....now i get about 3-4 days....i recently tried installing a few different ones and the battery life fell again....but thry installing this

Sorry, what program is S2U2? Where to download?
When I just got my phone back in November last year, my battery kept draining quite fast (empty within about 15 hours). By now even though I still use it as much as back then, the battery easily last twice as long if not thrice as long. I now manage to have it last for more then 2 days.
I notice power drain when I had SPB phone software installed and also after alarm go off in G-Alarm. With the spb phone, i think it's because of the repeating reminders option, didn’t really tested out, just uninstalled and X1 hold battery pretty well.
In the F-Alarm, after alarm went off it, seemed like only display did turned off and the device didn’t really suspended\turned off. And the battery could drop about 10% within a few hours. Soft reset stopped enormous consumption…
That’s my experience for now, hope helps someone..

Battery life suddenly very poor - how to identify cause?

For the first few weeks I had my HD the battery life was brilliant. With minor use it'd have high levels like 95+% when I go to bed at night, but the last week or two something has begun really guzzling power from it and I can't figure out what.
I don't think I installed anything new, so I want to find out if there is a way I can easily identify where the power is getting drained so badly. For instance, some days now it is down to about 55% by the middle of the day without even making a call or using any data services etc. I have bluetooth & wifi switched off all the time too!
Is there an app that can identify battery drain in a similar sort of way to cpu/memory use? Or does it normally follow that something using more memory/cpu will be the cause?
Thanks guys!

Try the following task manager and click on CPU Usage at the top. This should help isolate what programs are active
Thanks very much for the reply.
I did look in a task manager I already had and I found that Phonex seemed to be varying but generally using up to 10% cpu just sitting in the background so I have uninstalled it (shame - it's nice).
I'll add in the task manager you've given me and check that, and see how it behaves now PhonEx is gone.....

Here's an update - I couldn't find anything else that was really using any cpu, and the main culprits using memory seem to be important stuff (I think - shell32.exe & device.exe & cprog.exe) so I doubt I can do anything about them.
Anyway, it wasn't bad last night after removing PhonEx but this morning it had used 10% battery in half an hour without even being used at all!!!
Rebooted and it's stayed on the same battery level now for over an hour but I don't trust it - it seems very erratic and I'm really not sure the best way to find the cause still.
I'd do a hard reset but it'll be a right PITA to get everything back on it again afterwards.

I would recommend reading this thread
A number of ideas have been given including using SQTools to identify what is using up the battery.
Good luck and keep me informed
Thanks for the reply again.
Are SKtools/SQtools two different things, or is that just a typo?
Have already got SKtools installed so I'll give it some scrutiny. It's obviously behaving at present though as it's an hour since my earlier post and still on the same battery % level.
Thanks for the link to the other thread anyway. I'll obviously be keeping a close eye on this so I'll advise any findings as they come up.
I've never known anything like it with this battery - no regular pattern sometimes brilliant sometimes awful. Very sensitive to chargers and type - one person reported here that if he charged through usb on computer his battery life went down really quickly afterwards. If he charged through mains battery life was much better. I also just found my charger on my motorbike has a small amount of rust/dirt in it and is causing the device to discharge.
I am not helping but just reaffirming your findings. I did find a programme called BattLog useful to see what programmes were causing high level battery usage. I don't have the link but you can find it here somewhere using search. Another tool for your collection.
Good luck!
Battlog eh? Thanks for the suggestion - will look it up
*edit* here it is - I'll try this tonight, if only as it's quicker than going through the SKtools menus to get to the power usage:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-battlog.html
I just began uninstalling stuff to see if it helps (seems to currently run around 106-111mah drain - no idea what might be considered 'normal' and have seen other posts questioning this but no real answers - yet).
Uninstalled Memmaid, and the wedge 18 tab action screen, and also Singh's 15 tab thingy. Have also turned off Handy Switcher as I had that running from startup. It's still drawing 106mah after all that!
One side effect though after removing those, was the weather applet appeared on S2U2 when I unlocked it - first time it's worked! It did disappear again though so there's still a problem with that too.
I've seen many posts where people blame software they have installed and the developer denies it is the software etc.... I think in the end it comes down to the device/battery or manila/TF3D. I may be wrong of course and will be interested to see how you go with it all.
I think it must be software since I have a lot on there and it was fine for the first few weeks I owned it and then suddenly began losing LOADS of power.
For some reason my data connection is not working now either! Might be time for a hard reset I guess.
If you are getting ~150mah consumption when the unit is in use, then with a standard 1350mah battery the lifetime should be 9 hours per charge.
If your battery dies in 1 day, then the unit is consuming the same amount of power almost all the time, even when it's locked or sleeping and this is not normal, unless you want it this way.
Some software, in particular lock managers and button managers are believed to be causing battery drain as they prevent the device from entering deeper sleep states where power can be conserved.
There's software floating on this forum that enables wi-fi and wave audio drivers to remain active in unattended mode (when your backlight is off) too, battery is drained a lot faster when any of these are installed.
Good points
I doubt there's any way of monitoring what power is being used in standby mode is there?
For instance, would an app be possible so that when sync'd and usb charging turned off the app on your desktop could run the same power monitoring process that you find in the likes of SKtools? That would answer a lot of questions I think!
PowerGuard
I used PowerGuard, when I was troubleshooting my battery problems ... and you can run the monitor and put it in standby mode, backlight off etc. I used to consume ~180maH when on, no calls no bluetooth and ~96mAh when backlight off/standby.
For me the culprits were S2U2 and Enable HSDPA in the phone settings. I cant get 3G cause im in the US, but it was alwys searching for a signal... after disabling those two.. im at 115mAH when on and 33mAh when standby and back to an ~18 hour battery life.
Oh dear, I just made a new thread with the same question really Silly me.
What version of S2U2 are you using? Did you upgrade that recently? I moved up to 1.5 and I think that might be the culprit, but I've uninstalled it and still having poor battery problems.
**EDIT** Okay, so I have Battlog installed, the drain sometimes shows as -330ma, but how do I see what is causing that drain?
My battery was lasting 2 days on the standard rom, using S2U2 and with HSDPA enabled.
I then upgraded to the Davideuck V-1 HP, and changed the radio from 1.09 to 1.12. Again I did have SU2U installed.
The battery then lasted about 6 hours, and the unit shut down before the ending of my day at work. I can only assume that the pda was consuming too much power even when switched off.
After two frustrating days, I gave up last night, and installed Davideuck V6 and changed the radio to 1.10, and now the pda battery is lasting for ages. It's only dropped from 100% to 99% after 5 hours.
OK, I know I should have changed things one step at a time, but I must assume that either the 1.12 radio or the V-1 rom is causing the problem.
I don't think S2U2 is the culprit here. But I do suspect that it might be the V-1 rom, as I believe that some folk have a similar problem with the new Dutty rom too. However, other users of the V-1 rom assure me that they don't have such a problem, so I'm confused!
Hmm, Dutty's 2.0 is using radio 1.09. Maybe I should try 1.10? Where can I get it from?

There should be for example "Active Application=ThumbcalStart" just above the temp/ma figures in the log file like in this screen shot post 17.
I am guessing 330ma does not sound too excessive for an open application as long as it is not running all the time.
So, idle it's at around 90-100. When I turned it off and S2U2 didn't start, it dropped down to 33 fairly steady. When I locked S2U2 and then turned it off, it stayed around 80, dropped to 50 for a little while and then came back up to 99...

Suggestion regarding battery life

Hi guys, just as a suggestion, someone could stick a thread regarding battery life, with tweaks or recommendations of what to do to improve this. I'm sure it is the major drawback of our wonderful device and I'm always trying to find something that could help, but I never find anything that really helps.
After several tweaks from this forum, the only thing I think that have really improved my battery life was to disable the HTC sense. It really works. Somehow, the Sense drains the battery so fast, the change is very visible.
But of course the Sense is one of the best things of the HD2
What do you think guys?
I have the same problem as well, power management cab didn't help in 1.48 ROM, in 1.43 everything worked quite well
I'm subscribing to this thread in the hope someone can do a good summary.. fingers crossed!
yeah the only solution is not to use sense, sense drains alot of power.
After I installed spb mobile shell the problem is solved..
Using spb and not sense has made my battery last alot longer, at night the battery would drain 50-60 % when I was at sleep using sense, but with spb it only drains 5-10% for a whole night.
I am using Sense and my battery drains about 5% over night. I found 2 things that helped a lot.
1. Turn off Settings/Location and automatically decline the service to HTC apps.
2. Turn off Settings/Personalise/Vibration.
Since yesterday 7am my battery now is 48%
the following services are running:
-bluetooth handsfree
-email check every 15 minutes
-approx 1hr of calls a day
- synchro over bt activesync with pc
- installing some apps
i think its not to bad on the stock phone with some tweaks from xda
I have no idea how long that is for you, but it is 0920 am here now so.. 52% in two hours?

check the config, switch off twitter/facebook to manual update, use edge instead of hsdpa, etc
another thing that helps is to disable the animated wallpaper. You can do so by chosing from the album
email check every 15 minutes
lol what do you expect.
I download weather ever hour, and just check for mails when i want to, average use i drop 10% - 15% in a day with sense on.

I get similar. sense does not seem to drain battery for me. weather update every hour, Facebook every 2 hours, email every hour. I get 2 - 3 days use.
Got a question about Hotmail, I got it set to "As items arrive" now.
Does this mean it's scanning for email 24 hours/1440 minutes/86400 seconds a day?
If so, that would probably eat alot of battery?
Or does it work somehow else? Can somehow tell me please
Thanks
