Picture Messages - G1 General

I don't have a data plan on my phone and I was wondering if it was possible to download picture messages with wifi

Unfortunatly, you cannot. When I'm connected to Wifi and I try to d/l a pic msg I see the 3G/E symbol appear as the pic is d/l'd. I hope that can be changed/fixed/modified someday

That's not the case for UK T Mobile customers. MMS are not part of data plan and come under your text allowence or flext allowance. To download mms sent to you, the phone does connect to the web, but not as part of data costs.

Receiving MMS

Has anyone been able to receive MMS messages on the iMATE XDA 2 through T-Mobile USA yet?
I'm able to send MMS messages, but when people send them to me they come in as SMS messages.
whats the difference between mms and sms?
SMS = Short Message Service, 160 characters max, text only
MMS = Multimedia Messaging Service, rich media content such as images, video and audio
maybe you have to active the "receive-mms"-feature on your phoneaccount to receive mms messages. Normaly the receive mms funktion is off, because not every phone can receive them
Ask you provide how to do this...
regards
AleX
SMS runs over GSM
MMS runs over GPRS
MMS need to be switch to delivery directly to the phone by the service provider. However some service providers (mine is one as it happens) have not updated their system yet to allow both MMS and GPRS web/data services at the same time.
I'm stilling to the data services as I can still send any pictures I take via email.
i'm still waiting on the guy to reply who claims he gets unlimited gprs for $20/month from his provider in the US. Any know how who offers this?
T-Mobile offers $19.99 unlimited internet if you have a phone number with them. It's $29.99 alone without voice plan.

You can find more info on T-Mobile website or HowardForums.

Data usage charges when sending MMS

hi all,
i have a T-Mobile MDA Vario 2 on the Flext 30 package.
PROBLEM:
my phone is set on the GSM network and not the 3G network.
each time i sent a MMS message (should be free under my flex price plan) i get charged 0.001p and 0.005p per message i send.
it logs these charges as internet usage.
all i am doing is sending an mms. i have not change any setting on the phones therfore the phone is using the default tmobile settings.
this has gone back and forth between me and T-mobile since i have got the phone and they are convinced i am using the web on my phone (not the case) to the extent i have gone to a t-mobile shop and asked the guy there to send an MMS whilst onto t-mobile CS to prove i am not accesing the web.
the problem has now been passed on to T-Mobiles GPRS supplier.
i was wondering if anyone else has seen this behaviour.
I think company treats it as a data transfer so dats y they r charging coz when u surf the web then also it is treated as the data transfer still u wld b clarified by ur network provider .
the way it normally works in the UK is that you are charged a flat rate for an MMS message regardless of connection (i belive) this charge is covered under the Flext plan hance as long as you have available credit on your Flext price plan you pay nothing for the MMS.
i am paying nothing for the actuall MMS it just seems to add 0.5pence worth of data usage each time i sent or recieve an MMS.
the data usage is timed at exactly the time i sent the MMS to 1 min later. so i assume its something to do with connecting disconecting to the T-Mobile internet when its about to send the message
Hi, I have Cingular...so it might be different, but I expect they treat MMS the same way, which is yes you will get charged for data useage.
Example to send a MMS with Cingular you go through [email protected] and anything sent through that is data useage.

Actually it is counting as a data transfer

Is it possible?

I have a AT&T HTC Fuze p4600 and I have the data plan shut off so I wouldn't get charged fees that I did not confirm, I use wifi basically everywhere I go and I was wondering is there a way I can get my mms messages to download. I have the unlimited messaging plan. But since I had AT&T shut there data connection off they said I would not be able to recieve any mms and when someone sends me one it asks me if I want to download but it never does...
So is it possible to fix that.

go-phone: mms on unlocked htc hd2 without using data

hey there i have another question, you see im using the NRG rom on my unlocked hd2 and i popped the prepaid/gophone att sim card in and it set everything up for me. so i could use edge to access the web and all that, and send mms messages. but since i dont want to use the data on the phone and just wifi, i turned data off , but then i cant send mms's , so i dont know if theres a way to like mess up the settings on the data settings so that it sends mms's without me having to use data. btw i have the unlimited text option that states i dont need a data plan to send mms's. thanks to anyone who can help.
windows mobile can only send mms over data!!!
my o2 sets two data connections, one for data and one for mms. If i just turn off all data, i cant send mms, but if i use something like 'dialup enabler/disabler' i can turn off one or both of these, hence i can turn off only the actual data connection and leave the mms connection on.

Yes, and tmobile (US) is the same way...you can use MMS (as long as it's on the plan) even if you don't have any other data provisioned on the line.
EDIT: barronedson, I would suggest calling AT&T and asking what settings you need when you want to send MMS without a data plan, if no other members here have any suggestions.

MMS problems

I have been having problems for quite a while with receiving MMS messages and sending them as well. I am on a monthly pay as you go plan with no data and i am out of the tmobile network, (roaming still in US) but with my previous phone (sidekick 4g), I was able to send and receive MMS messages if i had wifi calling on. Now that trick doesn't seem to work but once every good while. All I get is the download option then my bars will get that "x" over them to signify no coverage and wifi calling will turn off and after a while start again and no progress will be made in the download process. I have tried having both national and international roaming on and neither seem to make a difference. I havent made any tries to change the apn settings. Could anyone help me solve my dilemma? Thanks any help will be greatly appreciated.

Even though you're on a pay-as-you-go plan, you'll still need data enabled to send/receive mms messages. Otherwise you'll receive the message but never be able to download the attachment. My phone is on a plan without data, but I still have to enable data in order to send and receive MMS messages. I also need a good amount of signal (it has to be practically full signal) for it to go through. As far as my experience goes, you can't send or receive MMS messages while Wi-Fi Calling is enabled. Your signal bars show no signal because your phone is switching between Wi-Fi Calling and mobile radio. As for APN setting, I'm not sure which ones do and don't work. Whenever I have issues with MMS, I look up the values and re-set them.
TL;DR Just enable data and give it a try.

I have T-Mobile as well. If you watch closely when receiving an MMS, you will see that although WiFi calling is enabled, the mobile data indicator will show up and transfer the data.
As far as APN settings are concerned, it has no effect on WiFi calling. If you can receive MMS when connected to mobile data then your APN settings are correct.

The thing is that I do have my data enabled and i do see the indicator showing the data transfer but its usually a "G" and the arrows neither go up or down, but its really strange yesterday I was able to test it out and I was able to recieve an MMS but I tried sending one right after and nothing happened. I will probably recieve the failed to send message later on today. I was just hoping there was a fix to this. And as far as I have seen with experimenting with it, WiFi calling must be enabled for me to send or recieve MMS if not I get the message of could not send or could not download right away
