GPRS auto connects, NEED HELP ASAP - Touch GSM General

Today i turned on the screen and saw GPRS was connected, i dont know what initated it or why it was on, but it SMASHED $15 credit (not sure how many KB that is).
How can i prevent this from happening again? Why doesnt it ask me if X program can use GPRS??
Im using tabish's 6.1 ROM.

Try using 'NoData', its a free utility that will disable GPRS connections on the phone to help avoid unwanted data fees if you've only got a voice plan on the phone. I've been using it for about a year now, it works great.

Check if HTC weather tab is set at auto update. I have been using this ROM for long and have no such problem

Disable auto connect to GPRS or 3g

Hi
Without going through every application how can I setup the connection options to only automatically connect when wifi is available or when docked. Idealy I would like to be prompted to connect via GPRS or 3g network? Any reg hacks on this one?
Regards
Eric
GPRS connection disable or prompt
hi, I'm having the same issue as above...would like to connect to GPRS manually only.
anyone !??!
me to, i am only on a limited plan for gprs/3g and the costs are quite high 2c p kb.
i use wifi at home a lot, so usually not a problem, but dodgy activesyncs to exchange server, or accidentally opening IE auto connects 3g gprs without prompting.
Any hacks, or software that anybody knows about.
I also need this, i ran my bill up without knowing/wanting to

I have changed my default IE page to "about:blank" - at least it means that IE doesn't go off trying to load a page by default that I'm most likely not interested in, but it also prevents it from connecting GPRS/3G should you start it by accident.
Cheers,
Steve.
Has anyone had any luck with this? I also am on an expensive tariff and unwanted connections prove costly. I have not yet found the answer, but will keep you all posted if I stumble across a setting/hack.
Would also like some tips on this, dont know whats dialling up 3g, but everytime i looked at my phone it was bloody connected grrrr.
Im also intressted, i need like a on/off button for the gprs. My damn egress updates my blogs/rss streams all the time. I have disable autoupdate in egress but it still wants to update sometimes :/
I've found nothing yet and have resorted to removing my GPRS settings until sorted.
I will crack open C# and attempt my first PDA utility - with the aim being to prevent GPRS/GSM from connecting unless something is manually toggled. Wish me luck
dudes, this has been posted a few times already
it's a part of the t-mob ext rom.

What does this cab file do exactly? Does it give you an option to manualy connect or does it turn GPRS off completely? Plus where can we find the option to turn it ON if we can?
One more thing please, can I install this cab file on my O2 XDA Exec without any conflicts since it was made for T-Mobile?
I am not 110% but I believe it appears in a number of carrier ext roms, and just stops GPRS from being attached all the time (like an idle disconnect perhaps?)
When you want GPRS, then you can connect by starting the application you want (ie : Internet Explorer) and GPRS kicks in.
Hope it helps.
Joe
couldnt find it in mine, using the imate jj.
will install and see what happens....
using vijay's method http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37963
you still get the msg that it is trying to connect and eventually an error msg, but better than a big phone bill
Hi guys !
I've installed the .cab on my 9000 and G icon is now disappeared
In the future will be possible to uninstall the .cab and restore the icon ?
Thanks

how to limit connection to only wifi

last year my daughter's fiance wanted a wizard so i gave her one to give to him.
she broke up before she gave it to the guy.
now my daughter has a new almost fiance and this guy got the wizard.
he is complaining that sometimes the wizard connects to cingular data and not to wifi.
of course he doesn't want to pay the cingular data charges so how do i disable that and limit his connectibility to wifi.
do i just make sure the data connection is turned off in connection manager or is there a better way.
thanks

Look for a cab called Modaco NoData. It allows you to turn off data access to whichever methods you don't want. I can post the cab later today. Its also found built into my xda mobile 6 rom.
thanks for the response.
i tried to download it from modaco but got an error message even though i was logged in.
finally found it on a european site and grabbed it.
thanks again.
i tried to install the cab on my g4 8125 with wm6.
NoData does not run properly.
i get a NullReferenceException
with a couple of more lines that start with System.Windows.Forms.Form etc.
any ideas how to fix this program in wm6 or turn off the edge a different way.
thanks
an old solution to this use to be to go to settings --> connections --> connections --> advanced. then from there click on select rules and change it so that both settings are set as "My Work Network". setting it to my network only connected via wifi or when wired...since i think the my isp setting might have the wireless service information.
not a 100% guarantee, since i don't use the internet either, but i've always set it this way and haven't had any connections to the internet. even when i open up ie, it doesn't try to connect to anything.

Automatic send/receive with WiFi only, not GPRS?

Isn't it possible to set up the phone to ONLY do the automatic send/receive of mail at an interval when there is a WiFi connection available?
I want to keep the option of being able to use GPRS for sending/receiving, but only when I manually choose to do so. I don't want to automatically pay for GPRS data tranfers every x minutes!
I have TyTN WM6.

Allan Jensen
Might be. If you use MoDaCo's NoData you can shut off the grps data.
Set the wifi on.
Every time you put the phone out of standby it should check it. I have a feeling if it was a scheduled update that wouldn't work to well.
Unfortunately the wm software is designed to use the grps as the primary data, as wifi shuts off when in standby... could get tricky...
Perhaps this can get you started in the right direction.
BTW, what carrier are you on? Do you have an unlimited data package?
a little trick a Tech Support guy at Rogers taught me is to delete the password and uncheck the SAVE PASSWORD in the gprs settings....
this way I know when its trying to connect to the internet or not,
Up here in Canada Rogers realllllly takes you over the barell for data rates.
I currently have a plan that gives me a WHOPPING 5 megs a month
this privilege costs me $20 a month... and oh yea if I go over 5meg a month its $0.05 a KB. Thanks Rogers!

Try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316696&highlight=automatic+sync
You can set the connection to be wi-fi only.
You can set time when to automatically send and receive mails.
I am using this with my touch, tytn (WM6) and Universal (WM6).

How to disable GPRS?

Hi guys,
with my touch HD, im on pay as you go on Orange, so the data connection fees are quite high. I prefer to use wifi but sometimes i accidentally update weather/email or run opera and then it costs me. is there any way i can fully disable this? on solution would be to disable the cellular radio but that's hardly practical.
thanks for any help.
Use the Modaco NoData app. It lets you toggle your data - if you toggle it off, then apps can't auto-connect (you'll get an error if you haven't got an active Wi-Fi connection to the Internet)

ty.
testing it now
wow, thanks for that. it workds really well and i reccommend it to anyone with the same problem. the only downside is that u have to sign up to the website to get it.

Automatically starting data connection

Hi,
I have been using HD2 for a week now and I have noticed that the data connection with my mobile operator (O2 UK) starts automatically each time.
I notice this when I see the 3G or H or E symbol on top, then I have to go to data connection and switch it off.
If I call someone, hang the phone down and then lock it and if I unlock the phone after sometime I see the data connection turned on again.
Anyone know why this happens? Is there any way I can only turn it on when I want it and not all the time? I keep my wifi connected when I am at home.
As far as I know the apps I have are configured to not connect automatically...
metal675, couple of places to check. On your device, open activesync->menu->schedule and make sure the schedule for both peak and off peak times is set to manual. Next, go to the settings tab in manila and select location and untick HTC location service. Not sure if you've already done these or not, but these are the two things I know. Hope that helps.

Also deactivate everything in data services.
If deactivating everything wont help, please check if you closed Palringo properly (if you use it at all). Had the same problem and couldn`t figure it out - which process is turning 3G on itself. Found Palringo making problem. Closing by X doesn`t help (even when it`s not in ComManager). You have to close it by Menu>Exit to make sure.
Kris
You can also try deactivating data connections using bsbtweaks. It's an option which should prevent your device from automatically connecting whenever it pleases.
Thx all.
I think it was the location service which did the trick. I had missed that one.
Had switched off automatic update setting for all the other apps. Looks like it is working now and I dont see data connection being started now.
if your planning on using the data services alot then it might be worth getting the unlimited data/internet bolt on for £7.50 that way you dont have to worry about it, thats what i do. keeps me updated on twitter, facebook and handy for the weather as well
Thanks.
I already have the unlimited internet...but as you know its never unlimited.
Dont want my usage to be exhausted when I am not using the phone...I would rather prefer to use the internet when I need it for FB, twitter, weather etc
