Sorry if this has been discussed before. I searched, honest.
I got a T-Mobile MDA from a friend. When I power it up, the screen illuminates, but nothing displays. Oddly enough, when i plug it into my cradle, activesynch completes with no errors.
I don't suspect the screen is bad, but does anyone have any thoughts? I can't get the thing to display any info, in spite of the fact that the screen looks flawless.
I'd appreciate your input. I'm frustrated. :x
So you can access your device via ActiveSync?
You could try doing a hard reset, maybe anything in the configuration went wrong --> all data will be lost.
If that also do not work, than i think you´re connector is not connected right, or there is a hardware malfunction....

Get screen capture software at the bottom of this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39266&highlight=
Use it while active sync-ing your PDA, you can know if your PDA is working or not.. or just that the screen is the one that is going boink.
BTW, try shining a light on the screen to see if you can see anything at all on the screen, probably you've shut off the backlight?
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try
Actually, I know the screen "powers up" because the backlight comes on. I just don't get a display. I'll try a hard reset, and let you know. I'll also try to capture the screeen like you suggested. Thanks for the tips.
Puzzling about why the think synchs, (like there's brain activity) but no display. Could it be a bad screen, and where could I get one cheap?
wondering if there is a registry trick, notification or program to be able to turn on and off my universal with the lid (i know it turns off the screen by default but i thinks this would be cool) im currently using WM6, i searched here and read the whole wiki page but i was unable to find any relevant info hope someone can help. thanks

Yet another thought... Have you ever tried taking out the battery, putting it back in, then starting the Universal back up? It takes time. Imagine taking all that time each time you open up the screen...
thanks for your reply. actually i did not mean turn off completly the phone i meant standby i was able to do this by deselecting the turn off the phone in the setting so every time i open the lid it is already on but this is affecting my battery life (i see about a 25% increse battery drain) so the point is to send the uni to stand by every time i close the lid and to bring it back from stand by as soon as i open it. thanks
Hi everyone, great forum - and my question comes right out of the box. I recently got a 8525 for Rogers Network - and I am charging it. The LED goes from Orange to Green - but it won't turn on.
Do I have to wait until it's fully charged to turn it on? And does it need to have my SIM card in as well for it to turn on. I'm thinking I was given a Lemon.
What you think?
It will turn on without a sim card. Are you holding the button in when you try and turn it on?
I had to do a reset to get it going - i got it slightly used for an amazing deal - i am starting to see why now.
The power button isn't working
that's REALLY not good.
You need that button to work to turn ON/OFF the screen allllll the time.
I am getting a swap done on the phone - so no problem. Thank you all though!
Another question - if i have wifi set up in my house - and i want to make sure the device won't pick up the Roger Network and start charging me - is there a way to turn off that feature.
So if I am at a hotspot - it will automatically go there and not the rogers network?
***EDIT: Nevermind - just have to hit the call button.***
Download Modaco NoData. You can toggle Roger Network connections on and off.
Really?? I'll check it out - thanks man.
Another question - sorry for so many - and this might be a programming thing. But is there a way to have the phone option as a shortcut on the today/home screen?
Or even make it a soft button option?

LOL - I saw that - I was looking for something that I could get at one handed without accessing the start menu.
thanks though
Edit:
Nevermind - hitting the call button brings up the phone. Nevermind..

welcome to the forums.....there's loads of information everywhere in these forums so pls spend some time reading so you dont turn ur phone into a brick
Will do - thanks man.
Hey guys, this has probably been answered before but I've had a look around... cant find a solution!
I ride a motorcycle and the satnav on the phone is absolutely superb, I'm using TomTom6, but unfortunately the problem I have is that I have to keep the phone in my pocket... which poses a problem as turning the phone into sleep mode or locking the phone turns the GPS chip off completely!
I can't really keep the phone on tomtom while in my pocket without locking it as touching the screen causes the tomtom to enter the menu and a whole series of settings get touched accidentally!
So is there a way to put the phone into sleep mode, by which i mean quickly pressing the button on the top to turn the screen off... but keep the gps on?
I've tried using HDTweak and AdvancedConfig but can't find the right settings if there are any
Any help would be appreciated!
ok ill be quick before you involke the wrath of moderators, they will harp on about the search and not to keep making new threads which is fairly justified since it makes a big mess here, but anyhow, since you asked, yee shall find..
psShutXP
that will do the trick for you, works a dream for me wondering around the mountains tracking my routes
hope it helps mate, just better remember the forum search next time hay!
my bad! I did have a search around but must have missed it, apologies for useless thread! lol
Cheers bud

also you could use another simple piece of soft ScreenOFF. it does what the title said one touch and screen is off so no accidental touches are made in pocket and no locking done...
here is link

By using either of these programs... do I need to go into my device's power settings and turn off sleep then?
I'm away to go on a Snowboarding holiday soon, and have a program for tracking my runs etc. I don't want it switching the GPS off and losing my tracks!!
Hey guys, just to let you all know I've now tried all of these programs and they all stop the GPS from working when theyre run... it's a real shame!
Anyone found anything that works?
Have been looking for something like this myself but as the GPS is quite a power hogging device, without external power your battery will drain pretty quickly.
Going a different route myself. Ordered a Suunto X10 and will download tracks afterwards.
Was looking at making a clear, waterproof dash mount box with USB power in the bottom. With a hinged (book-like) front you could drop the phone in on power and leave it enabled running GPS. Would also display incoming callers that way.

neat idea, I was considering making a waterproof case for my motorcycle but that would involve a lot of cost and time. Two things I certainly lack!
Battery seems to be ok for me, I can do a 1.5 hour journey without totally draining the battery. As long as I take my charger with me I can charge at the other end.
I find this problem really bizarre, seems like a bit of a design flaw...
What about a tank bag?
I used to use a blueangel (XDAIIs) on my bike...
1. 3 part tank bag from ALDI 16.99 (With clear map bit at the top).
2. Battery to car ciggarette socket 2.50
3. Headphone extension cable Maplins 1.50
Power and in ear headphones for directions, ok looking at the TT itself whilst moving is not good, but thats what traffic lights are for
Since then I crashed my bike, bought a car and upgraded to the Blackstone.
install MobileMagic and on the Options tab tick GPS and "GPS while "power off".
Having the GPS running all the time does suck on the battery a bit, but I managed 6 hours on Dartmoor navigating with Memory-Map today (very nice it was too, thank you for asking).
been trying fiddling with mobilemagic all week, including the settings you suggested... it's not working The nice lady turns off as soon as I turn the screen off even if mobilemagic has the "GPS while power off" checkbox checked

You are quite right, I hadn't tried it with TomTom.
It isn't a GPS problem tho', it's TomTom!
I tested it out with MemoryMap and a coupla other GPS logging programs, they had no problem with their GPS log when the screen is off. But TomTom suspends whilst the screen is off, even if the phone's GPS is still on.
I don't know how to persuade TomTom to do what you want, but it would prolly be worth asking in the TomTom thread (or at least giving this thread a more appropriate title).
One workaround (albeit a battery draining one) would be to go to Start-Settings-System-Power-Advanced and untick the option, "Turn off device if not used for"
Then lock the screen by holding the Phone Down key.
(I'll just pop out now to check if that works)
EDIT
====
Nop that's no good either... but it's definitely a TomTom issue not a GPS one
(even with the screen just locked instead of off)

Ah, that explains why i can do it, memory map works fine with them, if its just tracking you need i would do as suggested above and force device to stay on but id also make sure to turn the backlight off all together, used to do that with an older device and it will easily last for 9 hours
cheers for all the help guys! I didn't click it could be a problem with tomtom itself, kind of should have realised at some point!
Gonna try Gyrator 2 tomoro while I'm in the car and can keep an eye on it. If that doesn't work, I might try MemoryMap and see if that works. Quite like tomtoms interface tho!
Will update after I've had a chance to play with the settings.
Once again thanks for all the help!

hmm.. might have to avoid that then. Any other GPS 'talky' satnav programs out there you're aware of?

It really depends which SatNav software you're using. TomTom wants to have the screen active to work. Finally I hooked up a female cigarette lighter plug to my motorcycle battery and plug in my phone using a Cig/USB adapter...no more battery drain!
I use NoniGpsPlot.
And I have a feature to turn screen off.
I've tested. The GPS continues to plot while the screen is off.
well it's FINALLY working!
Gyrator2 did the job, if I get it to lock when the stylus is in, the gps and tomtom continues to work with the screen locked.
One drawback to this is that the screen actually freezes so you can't *see* where you're going but of course this is no problem for me as I'm listening and not watching. Pulling the stylus out updates the screen immediately to where you are while running tomtom ofc.
So thanks for all the help guys, so happy to have this handy feature working properly! But yeah, if other people want to do the same perhaps try something else if you want to see where you're going as well as hear!
Anyone else have this problem? Sometimes, if the screen goes to sleep, when I wake it back up, the touchscreen is unresponsive. I have to soft reset to get it to start up again. Any ideas on how to fix it?
I had the same problem, and flashed another rom, and problem gone.
Hello guys,
I was just searching through the forum with this exact problem and found this thread.
If the phone wakes up from sleep the touchscreen is unresponsive for a few seconds. If I insist to press it it only takes longer for it to respond. This is a very big problem because I sometimes miss calls because I can't answer them. Not even the for hard buttons don't work (maybe because they are also touchscreen).
I've tried flashing different ROM's (Miri, Dutty, NRG) even flashed back to the standard one and again back to a 6.5 one (as I saw this step fixes a lot of problems for some people) but the result is the same. I'm running out of ideas.
I don't think it's a hardware issue because if i leave the phone until the backlight dims and touch it, it goes back on, so it registers the press but doesn't act on it.
It's a very serious and I'm hoping someone here has a solution.
Nobody else is having this issue? Is there no hint on what is going wrong with our phones?
It appears it's happening more and more often and the screen is dead for more and more time.
Hi
I have had the same problem but solved tonight
There are many threads about this but no real solution I tried them all.
My first HD lasted till last week when I had to replace it because of a "Newton Ring" problem. In 10 months of ownership I got a screen freeze maybe 5 times.
My new replacement arrived last Saturday - same original Orange Rom and radio.
I have loaded exactly the same programs from the old phone and have found that when I put it in sleep mode via the power button its a 50/50 chance of it waking up. Receiving a text message does not wake it up either.
I can hear the volume control working and the haptic buttons provide feedback - but black screen. If I hold the power button down I get the bleep to ask if I want to power the device off - then all goes dead. If I wait 5 minutes the haptic buttons/volume buttons work again and the screen comes alive revealing the yes/no option to power off.
Also strange whilst in this locked state the orange charging light comes on - when it goes off I know i can wake the screen up !
I tried :
Enabling and disabling the Today Screen timeout
Auto adjust backlight off and on
Different screen brightness
Manual/default operator selection
Checked HD Tweaks settings were correct in registry and things I can't remember.
What has worked :
Start - Settings - System - Power - Advanced and unchecked the box "turn off device if not used for 5 minutes"
The daft thing is this was enabled on my old phone and would always wake up with a text/call or power button push !
What has changed ?
r
Andrew
Update - Found the problem
Whilst the above fixed my freeze problem it has been bugging me why - as the advanced power features are useful and I don't always remember to hit the power button to sleep the device.
I have now realized what was not set up the same as my old phone.
No start up password !
To enable this I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5004821 and changed my registry setting to 0.
This immediately takes you to the lock screen where you can now enter your password details and make them stick.
I now have a start up password and can set the timeout to 24hrs.
All the power settings now work correctly - and no screen freeze

Andrew
Spoke too soon
3 hours ago went to use my phone - black screen
Connected via activesync and MyMobileR.
Rebooted and got the "Microp Version Mismatch 0" message.
Checked out threads about this error on the mainly Diamond forum and can confirm my screen is well and truly dead.
Contacted Orange and they are sending another replacement tomorrow.
What p*sses me off is the number of hours I have spent to get one normal days use.
r
Andrew
Sorry to keep posting to this thread - but I am hoping that my experiences may help somebody
As said I am getting a replacement tomorrow and in one of the threads a guy said put it in the fridge for 20 minutes !
Well I thought what the h*ll and did.
Wrapped it in some tissues to absorb the condensation when I took it out - replaced the battery and it works - no Microp message and has behaved ok for 6 hours.
Got to be a hardware issue ?
Your thoughts.............

Hi Bigfish,
please let me know the phone is still ok after more hours out of the fridge. i have similar problem on my HTC touch- ELF and i have been searching for solution, and i found this
http://www.fixya.com/support/t982721...not_responding .
i do not have tools to open it myself and would like to try it.
if you r familiar with it please let me know.
cheers
M.
Hi
Sorry your link is not working.
As to the phone it was still ok 26 hours later when I had to exchange it for my replacement.
Weird !

Hi Andrew,
the fridge trick did not work for me. i kept searching for solutions and i found out that the problem is the digitizer (the touch screen). it might have received a shock (dropped on the ground) or other unusual pressure (in the pocket), and the digitizer gets out of initial position. the digitizer takes that contact as a tap -a continious tap- and does not respond to other taps. you might have to open the device and reposition the digitizer or replace it is there is some damage.
cheers
mumur
Sorry to hear that.
My replacement phone - so far has behaved perfectly.
r
Andrew
it strikes me that if I shake the phone that the phone jamming. I get no response. Even when I tap my finger hard against the rear top I get a crash. The only solution is to take out the battery and reboot. I think it has to do with a hardware problem.
there are others who also suffer from it?
