I will soon receive what the seller assures me is the Quad band version of the htc touch dual. Is there a relatively simple way to confirm this upon the phone's arrival i.e. series of buttons, software? I know I can drive out into the country and if I get no signal, it's probably not got 850, but I'm looking for a more certain method.

if there is a quad band version of touch dual, why HTC realesed 9 versions of the phone?
(Niki100/Niki500, Neon100/neon400)

I know the touch can do that, Thank
Now that its going to be available in the US with quad band, does it mean tri band niki can be changed to quad band?

I would like to know this too
It could be possible, but the RF chipset could be totally different on the two models.
There wouldn't be much of a reason for HTC to restrict the current tri band duals with the way the various operators have deals with other overseas operators.

You would think they would have designed, developed the radio chip long ago, and the new edition would only contain software changes to the OS, and Hardware soft updates

I too would like to know if this is possible. The best buy website has a touch dual listed with 850. I called their customer support and they couldn't give me any information on release date or even a model number. Will the US version of the dual have 850? I want to know if I can get this $500 phone to work here (area code 318 with ATT) on just the 1900 band or do I need the 850 band for better reception. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Any luck? I would like to upgrade to the quad band
theres only one version of the dual that is quad band and that is the US version being sold by BEST BUY.
Thanks for the reply I figured I was out of luck, so I ordered the us version yesterday.
Bought the triband Dual but, soon figured out that it doesnt work well in the states.
I thought I would give it a go.
Thanks
Was working on 850MHZ than....
My HTC touch was working on 850 MHZ than I had a tech at my provider's, setting up my internet.
Since that moment it does not work anymore:
Getting the signal but not able to make calls or receive calls.
The guy tried to fix it. It worked for a couple of calls and than stopped working.
Back to the tech, he told me it s because of the 850mhz on which they operate.
He said that even if it was working fine, it wasn't meant for their network (850 MHZ).
Should I believe him?
(the phone works fine with 1900MHZ band from another company)
How can I fix this?
wish there was a radio upgrade like the latest for the diamond that enabled the 850 band
I cant find any relevant posts, so...
Can I buy a Sprint Touch, unlock it, and use it on AT&T service? Sprint has no service where I live, so I'm stuck with AT&T for the meantime thanx in advance for any help
no...sprint uses CDMA technology and ATT uses GSM... you can purchase a GSM version of the Touch (called the HTC Touch) which "technically" doesn't have the 850 mhz band (which offers better signal reception); however, there are may HTC Touch users that say the phone works very well with ATT. the implication is that the phone has 850 mhz band but it's not advertised.

I appreciate the response! Well crap! I need the 850mhz, cause that's what's available where I live. I'll have to find another way. Thanks again
Well, if money is no object, you can try the Touch Cruise:
http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_htctouch_cruise.htm
It's a bit different, but apparently the newest model, and it has 850 and HSDPA
i'm using the Orbit 2 which is different version of the Touch Cruise. you might want to read some of the HTC Touch threads on HowardForums.com for feedback on the HTC Touch being used on ATT. there are lots of people over there that are using the phone on ATT.
why not get the tilt?
I was wondering why not just sign a new contract and get the tilt. It's quad band and I have seen some sell on craigslists for as little as 300 for a used one with no contract. You could probably get one cheaper with a contract. plus you get a tilting screen, a slide out keyboard and built in gps receiver. Just a thought. Tilt aka HTC Kaiser. You can find the info on this website in the Kaiser section. It is heavier though.
So I saw that Best buy is now selling an unlocked version of the Touch Dual and I was wondering if it is different then the versions that have been out. My main question is what bands does it operate on in the U.S. versus the european version of the phone!
It exist 2 device they call Touch Dual. One device is for Europa "HTC Niki" the other for US Based Networks "HTC NEON". The different is the Radio and the Frequencys you can use!

so is that why i cant ever get a 3G signal, i am always getting EDGE?
Yes... The US Touch Dual (ie Best Buy one) has HSDPA on the 850/1900 bands. The Euro Touch Dual has HSDPA on 2100 band (ie NO US 3G)

Also, the previous Touch Duals were GSM Tri Band and the US version is Quad Band.
Not just Best Buy sell them, I sell them too.

hey Maevro- Will you guys be selling the US Dual fitted cases? The cases that sell now are only for the EU Dual/Nike. The camera on the back of the US Dual is set differently.
Thanks.
can some on dump the spl from HTC NEON (best buy touch dual) its a higher version!
I'm new to all this, but can anyone help me? I had the HTC Touch Dual purchased in the UK and i gave it to my brother in the USA, he says the phone sometimes cuts him off, he has spoken to a few people that said this phone doesn't support the 1800 network. is this true and if so is this a hardware problem or can the ROM be upgraded??
Many thanks
There are three versions of the Touch Dual, GSM EUrope, GSM North AMerica and CDMA. Most likely you have the GSM europe version. AT&T USA requires the 850/1900 bands for bothe Voice and 3g data.
this is a hardware restriction. You are SOL.
Hi everyone! I hope this was not discussed before but, really I'm trying to identify my phone and i couldn't.
Ok I bought it in Banggood and when I did the order i chose YD201 version for have LTE in my country (Spain) but my surprise is when i received the phone in the box described like YD206. I start the phone and inside of the rom , when i was woing to settings i found is YD201, so how to know it? Someone happened the same?
Thanks in advance.
I think that there is a big confusion with Yotaphone 2 phones.
There were some versions that used Snapdragon 800 chip, that is able to use band 20 (800MHz).
But all the latest use Snapdragon 801, which seems is not able to use band 20. I don't know if it is just lacking the antenna or chip has no support.
You can look up numerous band unlocking tutorials and you'll discover none of them are able to unlock band 20 800MHz.
You can still get LTE on other frequencies. LTE runs on 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz, depends on your operator.
I'd be happy if someone prooved me wrong.
