There's a nice software for windows mobile devices called GSM Locator and you can find it at
http://www.handango.com/catalog/ProductDetails.jsp?storeId=2218&productId=246582
It uses GSM Cell Information and assigning various actions to be performed automatically when you enter or leave a specific place: set alarm, switch current theme, change ring tone , change volume , change ringer mode, change phone status ,change phone status ,change bluetooth status , send SMS ,Run Exe or e-mail message
It's a really nice software i'm using it on my HTC Tytan II Device and it working nice, you can try it for free for 13 days.
Enjoy It
It is something I have been thinking about for a while... Does it allow to change the profiles manually from the today plugin? Or to switch the WiFi or Bluetooth on/off?
Changing Profile Manually
GOOOOOD IDEA ,, but it dosn't switch profile manually it uses the cell information to switch profile automatically ,,
But they will take it into considration in next release ,, I sent your idea to them and they replyed this feature will included in next relase next FEB,, if you have another suggestions you can mail them at [email protected]
Guys,
for that matter, better use PhoneAlarm - it can't be beat http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html

yes but PhoneAlarm is very complicated ,, frankly speeking I don't like it
Guys ,, GSM Locator is the better Location Based Profiler till now ,so don't miss the change to try it ,,
Another vote for Phone Alarm here - it really is not that complicated, and is very skinnable etc.

any way we can't compare GSM Locator with phoneAlarm because they are diffrent ,,
phone alarm aims to make phone usage more simpler and it gives users some profiling capabilities
but GSM Locator is a "Location Based Profiler" it aim to customize you phone settings based on your location throw a list of activites like
Change Device Volume
Change Phone Volume
Change Ringtone
Change Ringer Mode
Change Bluetooth state
Send SMS to a Pocket Outlook contact
Change Theme
Set Alarm
Start an executable file (.exe)
Change Phone State (ON ,OFF Flight Mode)
Also it can integrate with any other software using "start an executable activity". this feature gives you the ability to do any thing you want.
Much more GSM Locator support schedules that you can use to customize you setting on time bases without changing the profile.
You can use schedules to activate flight mode at night and turn it off at the morning or changing windows mobile theme once at the morning , at the evening ,at the night ,, etc,,
And you can get all those features with just 34.99 $ , WOW so great
GSM Locator is really different and powerfull
http://www.handango.com/catalog/ProductDetails.jsp?storeId=2218&deviceId=1149&platformId=30&productId=246582
Hey, PhoneAlarm does all this too, and much much more!
Besides location based profiler, it also incorporates Calendar and time-based profilers etc etc. GSM Locator is just one of the locator options, others also being wi-fi, cell broadcast, SIM-low resolution, and GPS. And PA's profiles are fully packed with an enormous number of features.
Dear nallvaico
We are not here for fighting we just sharing our experiences with the two software products ,, I used the both and I selected GSM Locator and also I see phoneAlarm not easy to use than GSM Locator .
this is my opinion as i'm free and this is ur opinion so, no problem at all ,, i see GSM Locator good for me.
and I advice people who searching for such software products to try GSM Locator
http://www.handango.com/catalog/ProductDetails.jsp?storeId=2218&deviceId=1149&platformId=30&productId=246582
And at the end of the day people can try the both products and decide which one is better for them comparing to the features the get and the cost they pay ,, take it easy dear

I will confess that I was wondering that? The recommendations were a bit too keen.....Best advice is to try them all as with most things.
IF (and I say IF) the OP does have links with that software, then it would be better to be upfront about it.

Then, you seem a little too eager, I was thinking of trying the app but you seem too pushy with the "this is the greatest app ever attitude." That is why people are suspecting you. In XDA we are already see people plugging paid apps as a bit dubious, specially when they get as defensive as you have when someone mentions an alternative. I am positive I am not the only one who thinks that way.
In the spirit of XDA-Devs I am going to test the freeware app on my Hermes first, will report later.
In my experience PhoneAlarm, although being very very good software, makes my device sluggish and unresponsive. And I am not alone in this view. I have been using it for about a year, then switched to a simpler SPB something, then Phone Weaver... The phone feels much quicker without PA (same for Trinity and Omnia).
So I do understand that PA is not for everyone and GSM Locator may do the job better.
Are you guys reps of PA by any chance??
No - just a fan.
As I said, best thing is try them all - in the end I had no such issues with PA and still use it.

Having had my XDA 2 now for a few weeks, and having finally worked out most of the kinks of the really inadequate bluetooth stack (by installing the widcomm stack) I am now moved to address my other annoyances: the very feature poor phone software.
I expected a very configurable phone, but was very disappointed with the microsoft dailer. The short list of features I find missing are:
No separate ring tones can be assigned to each contact. This could be very usefully, as you would know who is phoning without checking the screen.
No software to keep track of your calls or GPRS allowance. Even my old nokia from 3 years ago could do that.
No way to transfer a call from the handset to a headset. I know you can do it the other way around, why not this way too?
Very little status information on the dailer screen. Why is this, when most cell phone screens look like the status display on a jet?
Anyways, there is alot more, and people may want to add their annoyances. Im really wondering if there is any software that can replace the microsoft Dailer (like Pocketinformant replaces the pocket outlook).
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Took me a minute to know what you're talking about.
No, I hate the built-in dialer on the Pocket PC.
The author of mobidial (http://www.mobidial.com) told me there will be an XDA II version.. hopefully soon.
-arebelspy
hey,
just a few comments....
re: No separate ring tones can be assigned to each contact
- i beleive the o2 xda site has free software for download; one of which is called powercontacts. i believe it allows you to assign a ringtone to each contact. i tried it when i still had the xda1...never got it to work. so, i downloaded a trial version of ringtonex; it works like a charm and i'm able to assign individual ringtones to any contact i want. i immediately bought the software, i think it was for around 9usd. now that i'm using the xda2; the software still works great. for ringtones what i did was record the voice of my friends, officemates, my wife, and used those wav files for ringtones corresponding to their contacts. it also works in tandem with the photocontacts app in the xda2
re: No way to transfer a call from the handset to a headset
-the xda2 has bluetooth and i use it together with the bt200 headset. incoming and outgoing calls are automatically transferred to the headset.
2 cents worth.
cheers mate
robson
Transferring from phone to headset is a headset dependent thing. My HBH-65 allows me to transfer to phone and back to headset, but my Jabra wouldn't have.
Thx for the great pointers. I am definitely getting the RingtoneX app, and mobidail or something similar, when it comes out.
I just wish that developers would design more for handed use, not using a stylus, especially as bluetooth voicedailing does not work.
About transferring to a headset, I mean after you pick up a call with the XDA, transferring the call to a headset should be possible, but has not worked for me yet.
Another minor peeve, why is the sms option not on the dialler, but on the menu bar, and why is speaker phone also not on the front, but you have to press a key for it. There still needs to be alot of improvement. Hopefully independent programmers will kick in and fix all these deficiencies. It does make you wonder if the developers actually use their own devices or not...

i think it's because that most cell phones screens is their version of the today screen
i most surdenly would not wish such a confusing cluttet messy interface on my worst enemy
(yeah of cause not all cellphones are all that bad some many are)
I dont know. At least they should have the battery status on the screen, and the network logo would not be ammis either (currently its difficult to know when you have no reception, or just no reception)
Alot of the stuff thats currently in the task bar could also be bigger icons on the dailer, and it would also make it look less plain and just incomplete, as if its been thrown together at the last minute.
Surur
well not sure if it's much help but if you install some bar like advanced wisbar on your pda you'll have batt status in the bar both in today and the dialer
suppose this is a pre customised vs. free 3. party customising
some people like to set up their device with personal customising and some people want the place they buy it to handle that
in that way i suppose xda and other such devices are more like computers then std phones are
of cause if one get a xda with all the stuff in the preloaded provider rom they get more of that stuff you want
of cause thats not saying that they get enough
Ive been a user of Icbar for a long time, but as notifications is so important on a PPCPE device, and its not supported, I am not able to use it anymore. This is unfortuanate, as I enjoyed knowing what my battary status is all the time.

Hi All
Ive been requested to develop a simple profile manager for the xda II.
My users thought thet Zen's was gr8 but too complicated and too big on the today screen.
Here is what Ive come up with thus far. If anyone is interested feel free to check it out and of course any feedback is welcomed.
Cheers

Old download files deleted. The latest apps are further down the thread.

Hi All
How it works.
Profiles :-
Silent
Turns system and ringer volume down. Can still use bluetooth and bt headset. Can still select vibrate functionality.
Soft,normal,load
User definable. Can set system volume. can set ringer volume, can use bluetooth and bt headset, can select a number of different ring options (ring, ring and vibrate, etc)
Automatic
This profile is a special one. as above but can opt to trigger on appointment status of meeting or busy. When selected it used the previously selected profile's options (if using normal then switch to automatic, normal profile settings are still in use) but when an outlook appointment of status busy or meeting starts as per outlook entry the profile changes to whatever the settings are you selected in the setup for automatic. When the appointment ends the profile settings switch back to how they were and it all goes around again for the next meeting until such time as you switch to another profile.
Here is the lastest version (v1.06 ) of the app and some screenshots.
Cheers

Hi Bretto.
I haven't installed your application yet, but why are they called 'demo'? Is this utility commercial?
Well, for Zen's PhoneProfile not only can you make the icons smaller (I used paintshop pro and reduced them 50%), so that it's smaller on teh today screen, you can now also use PocketZenPhone Tray, the version of PZP that resides in the tool tray rather then the today screen....
Hi all
Im just calling them demo versions at the moment. Of course when its finished I wont.
I was using pocketzenphone myself but I simply got pushed into this project because some of my users wanted an alternative to what else is around. Something simple that handles the basics.

IMHO:
With PocketZenPhone you can both manage the simplest options and have some more sophisticated options like run a program on profile switch, switch a profile according to any outlook status, manage all the available profiles on a timed base... etc., etc,
With it you can do all of this or just use its basic functions, and the settings page is "newbie proof" (oops...I was using a less polite expression   )
Finally... I cannot see any reason to develop another application... also considering the price that PZP costs: if your nice sw will do less it will have to cost less...
But of course the choice is up to you, good luck !
I certainly appreciate your comments but I would have thought choice for the consumer was always a good thing.
Not withstanding that its users who have requested this application after reviewing whats available.
I certainly dont take anything away from PZP its a great product and Im sure will only get bigger and better. Personally I like it.
Cheers

I do have a new version with some enhancements that were requested.

Hello all,
Does anyone know if there is a program that allows you to set various ring profiles like on the nokia phones. This is a very useful and quick way of changing ring settings.
Hi,
I use phone alarm from pocketmax and have done for about 6 months. I think it works perfectly especially when getting on a flight.
www.pocketmax.net
Hope that helps,
M.
Or try PocketZenPhone, it's much easier that PocketAlarm.
Try PocketZenPhone, is the better!!
Have to say originally I tried - ok 6 months ago - PocketZenPhone and didn't like it. It hung alot and just didn't integrate well. Haven't tried the newer version.
Phone alarm though I like for the following reasons:
1. Allows MP3 SMS tones
2. Repeating alarms (like Motorola) to avoid missing alarms
3. Integration with WebIS mail
4. Integration into Today screen
5. Skins
6. GPRS settings
7. General notification settings
It seems to do what PocketZenPhone does and more. Just my opinion though
M.
Here you go!
Hi mates,
I have spent several days looking for a phone profiler (ala Nokia) as much simple as possible... no whistles and bells, no bloatware... just profiles.
I miserably failed!
So I decided to develop myself a software solution to accomplish this simple task.
I am so happy with it that I have decided to share it with you.
It is completely FREE. Take it as it is, of course!
I've been using it for several weeks now, and could not experience any failures. Nonetheless there could be bugs or malfunctionings I would be glad to fix if you let me know.
My "Phone Profiles" includes a control panel Applet to change your settings and a Today Item plugin to easily select or change the current profile.
Just select the today item, tap-n-hold (or hold the action button down) to display a popup menu with your profiles.
For all the CLaunch lovers, it also possible to activate a given profile from a command line using the following sintax:
ctlpnl.exe profiler.cpl, n, 1
where n is the profile number. Change 1 to 0 if you want just to edit the profile's settings.
This software has been tested on WM2003SE Phone Edition only.
That's all, I guess.
Enjoy.
M. Panzica (aka Silver Bullet)
UPDATED: Looks like it does not work properly if compiled with VS2005. Recompiled with eVC4. Please re-download. Sorry.

@NinjaDonkey:
Nope, buddy.
As far as I know it doesn't work (yet) on WM5, since I use API calls that require the code to be signed. I am currently working on a new version that is supposed to be running on WM5 as well... stay tuned.

hi! i'm a new magician user. may i ask how will I install your Profiler to my phone?
Try PocketZenPhone or PhoneAlarm
Those 2 should be the best in the market now
I just try both of them as of late
And I must say I choose PhoneAlarm better than PZP, PZP is a little slow and would hang once in a while
Plus PhoneAlarm got more feature like billing info, better skining...ext

Hi,
I just downloaded and installed your little program on my Magician, and I am seriously impressed! The Today DLL is a mere 12k, and everything works flawlessly so far!
Great job - thanks a lot!
Would you allow me a few comments, in no particular order?
- your program needs a name.
- the GPRS problem that PZP has seems to not exist in your program - well done! I'm almost convinced to switch...
- this thread here is about the three existing profiles programs. Could we have a separate thread for your program?
- would you care to comment how you manage to switch on/off Bluetooth? I remember that for Zendrui this was not easy to implement. Does your program also handle Widcomm stacks?
- I would be interested in a German version, and if you send me a string table, I'd be more than happy to to provide German translations.
- one wish: I certainly do not want all of the settings PZP offers, but there are a few I do miss:
-- setting the volume for system sounds. There are situations where any sound is unacceptable, even the beeps when tapping.
-- set the backlight time-out. For example, when I navigate, I do not want the backlight to turn off at all.
-- backlight level independently for battery and charging mode.
Yes, I know that this already sounds like beginning featuritis. But afaik all these settings are simple registry entries, so should not bloat the code. Trying to put this into the UI may be a bit tricky. Well, just my personal wishes - feel free to ignore if you disagree.
Overall, I find it a really well-done little program. Thanks a lot again!
Cheers
Daniel

In my opinion the best is Profiler  Very simple and friendly program.
Hello Folks,
It’s been around a month since I’ve joined xda-developers and I have had a chance to get some of the best stuff for my HTC Touch Diamond from here. I think it’s time for me to return the favor and give back something to the community.
SMS Counter
For some time now I have been searching for a *FREE* application that basically can tell me how many SMSes I’ve sent. Thus, if I have a free message sending limit in my plan, I can know if I’ve exceeded it or not. Unfortunately, I could not find any. The only good application that I know currently doing this is the 'Efficasoft smartphone sms counter'. (Though, If there is such application and if I’ve missed it, someone please bring it to my attention)
And thus, I thought of making one!
Possible Features
I spent some thinking about it and I figured that I can add a few more features to make this application a bit more, well, feature rich. The next post lists the features that I have currently is my mind. Based on your suggestions/feedback, I will change the list.
Development Platform
I will be making this application in .Net Compact Framework v3.5 / C#. Thus, people wishing to use this app will need the Compact Framework installed on their devices.
Devices
At the moment I’m planning to make this only for the HTC Touch Diamond. Once the app is a success and if it has a good demand, I can plan on porting it to other devices as well.
Pricing
If everything goes as planned and if this application sees the light of the day, it will be available for everyone to download for FREE, ALWAYS!
So my fellow community members, please think about this and give me your valuable feedback. I want to know your suggestions, your ideas. Do we really need this app in the first place? Is there something better already available? If we need it, how can we make it acceptable to a wider range of audience? Do we add more features or do we just put the most basic features? Lot of questions and your answers are welcome.
Thank you!
[CONCEPT] SMS Counter - Possible Features
Below are the possible features that I am currently thinking of implementing:
Determine number of sent and received messages.
Filter options: Within a date range, to/from specific person, etc.
Trends: Whom I’m messaging most and who is messaging me the most.
Cost calculation based on plan but to be override-able for any given month.
Suggestions welcome!
there is hs++ wich, among many others, have option of counting sent and recived mesages
but i like your idea
to list of features i`d suggest to add
autoresponse (to contacts from adress book when i cannot answer or read message or recive call)
setting message to send at precise time
PowerSMS is one such software. But it is not a freeware.
www.trinketsoftware.com
of course i know PowerSMS
it also has a lot more cool features
but, as you mentioned, it`s not freeware

And it has it's own limitations too. For e.g. I would prefer a graphical chart when I'm seeing statistics, this is something which I would like to incorporate in my own app.
Yet, it seems the response for this is pretty much zero and people are not very keen to have this application.
I like the Idea of the statistics (with chart! ) sounds funny to know who gets the most sms from me (and to see who don't linke me and never or seldom sends me sms back )
I think the features are okay for now keep it as simple as possible
is it going to work in the background ? i mean consume memory and cpu power all time.
i am looking for a call time and sms counter, something simple that i can reset every month (maybe even with an option to reset automatically at a given date each month).
it was built in with my sony erricson T650 and maybe any other phone. but nothing simple at the diamond (havnt seen any sms counter built in).

No, it's not going to work in the background, the user will have the option to manually update stats after he starts the program or they will be calculated automatically when the program starts; whichever the user prefers.

That sounds good, just calculate when the user is ready to use, not always in the background more free Ram on our Diamonds! The reset on a specified date is also a really nice idea, yes!
Whats about a "constant" statistic, that shows the statistic from begining, and we can seperate in to monthly? So we can see in wich month we texted the most? And we could use the overall stats to calculate an wich (week)day we send the most sms

You mean maitaining the statistics cumulatively? I don't see how that's possible with the 'reset' option. When a users resets the data, all previous stats are lost and that's its exact purpose. Though, feell free to correct me if i'm wrong and explain what you want in detail, possibly with an example. Thanks,

Like in the car. you have a constant counter of your km/miles, and a "small" one for the time you go to refuel.
so lets say, I want to know how many sms I send since I load my prepaid card (but also a constant statistic )
small counter/reset function = time since reload the prepaid-card / refuel the car
background (full)statistic = overalltime statistic with monts/(week)day stats / km/miles since you bought the car
hope thats make my sugesstion clear

so lets say, I want to know how many sms I send since I load my prepaid card (but also a constant statistic )
small counter/reset function = time since reload the prepaid-card / refuel the car
background (full)statistic = overalltime statistic with monts/(week)day stats / km/miles since you bought the car
hope thats make my sugesstion clear

Thanks for the analogy tomoffel, it's much clear now.
Yes, this feature will be available, though I'll have to work out the exact mechanics of it. Thanks for the suggestion!
sounds good
If I can help you, let me know, I have a hermes(qvga) wit 6.1(crc) running on it, with around 6000 sms (atm not active) and a Diamond(VGA) with 6.1(Gen.Y) and around 600 sms.
Thank you!

I think its simple, just use two counters: one is "resetable" the other is not.
i guess it means double the data and double the reading/writing cycles but im sure there is a way to optimise it with simple procedure.

Great, thanks tomoffel. I'll plan to start development on it by the first week of September and have a beta ready by the end of second week. I'll keep you posted.

Yes, I've got the idea. I'll have to find out a way to optimize it, which I will.
Thanks ice2k2!

Hi guys, first post from me so excuse if theres some infos missing what you need, but I'll add as something is asked.
I'm a long user of Nokia phones and just changed my E90 into a Diamond. And the one thing that I really miss is that theres not exactly different profiles to choose from (or made your own). Theres only selections for silent and vibrate, other than the normal selections. And I really miss that from Nokia phones. Just a few simple clicks and phone has a loud theme with a different ringtone and SMS message sound, or then its almost quiet (like when my baby is sleeping).. I think you all get the picture, if you ever had Nokia phones =)
So my reguest is for someone to point out a program or if someone wants to make I would be glad, really glad I think some others would like these too
I could make another post but I'll just add few other programs also to here that maybe someone knows if there exists similar for Diamond
- BestProfiles (enable selected profiles to turn on at some time of day)
- FlipSilent (turn ur phone face-down and its on silent, works for alarming to go snooze)
- Putty (great for symbian phones but I found only programs that arent so good as this is)
Anyways thnx in advantage if someone can help a dude out...
PS. only had HTC for a few days but after starting using it I had to order a data-plan to my mobile and a better battery, but this was off-topic..
Try ageye's G-Profile (http://www.ageye.de/index.php?s=gprofile/about), you get a fully 14-days working demo and full app is just 5€! One of the most happily money spent ever for my Diamond, now I even have it start playing music when I plugin earphones/carkit and stop when disconnecting!

I just installed it and it seems a fair try, tho it has a lot more possibilitys that i would actually need from a app might even help that dude out to translate it to my native language, like i just did to PocketShield, not finished yet but almost =)
Below again some off-topic, maybe some admin explains to me how to get rid of it =)
