Garmin GPS-lag solution that TomTom lacks? - XPERIA X1 General

Hi
I downloaded the Garmin XT for Mobiles and I am enjoying it alot. works very good on my Xperia, except that it is a bit slow.
Now. I was reading in the manual and there was a way of "helping" the program to find the GPS signal by pointing out an approximate point on a map near the place you are....
Setting>System>External GPS>GPS-Info>New place...
Now you get a map where you will point out where you are...
As soon as I do that I see how the GPS starts to find alot of sattelites.
My question is: Is there a way of doing this on TomTom7 ???
I do enjoy TomTom more because It feels much faster in 3D mode

anyyyy1???

Which GPS software Works Well with USDM MDA and in the USA!

TomTom is the roxs, I know, but hard to find illegit version to test b4 i buy.
I will try Iguidance, but not sure if North America is supported or works on MDA.
Igo, Navigon, Route 66 are all European.
GPS business in the USA looks like TomTom is the only option but again i dont wanna buy it b4 i test it. If anyone can give me opinions to how it well or poorly it works, that would be awesome!!
ALSO i will be using it with a 16channel Bluetooth GPS reciever.
hopefully the above coverd all the q's if you have any for me let me know.. ALSO i did all the searching and finding. Majority of hits were European, that's y i made the post silly!
Brit,
PS, if you have Tomtom 5.00 PLS if you can email me the software, my BF has all the USA maps, but his software is 5.21 and they wont read on 5.00 and his passcode is already used up for 5.21 upgrade
Also the MDA is a PPC or WM5? This GPS thing is getting really confusing for me. Some say PPC is not wm5 and other say ppc is wm5.
Will Iguidance work on my Mda???? it's compatible with ppc's!
Sorry for sounding so dumb but stuff like sthis ticks me off.
I'm using Iguidance 3.0 and bluetooth gps (don't buy expensive gps because it doesn't make much difference, mine is only $59).And setup is very easy with mda. I hope this helps.
I use iGuidance with NA maps on the MDA and it works just fine. I didn't much care for TomTom at all. I understand iGuidance's speech is slow because of some interaction with ActiveSync but I also understand that it's being worked on and it doesn't really take away from the functionality at all. I use it with a Holux GPSlim 236 via bluetooth without any problems.
Sweeet.. I guess ill pull the trigger on Iguidance then.. I bought a cheap bluetooth receiver from fleabay.. it's not brand name or anything, but it was an impulse buy @ any rate.. we'll see how it goes.
Iguidance looks like the Honda/Acura Navigation rite. From the top not Angled like Tomtom?
Alos has Day and Night feature?
Brit
Re: Which GPS software Works Well with USDM MDA and in the U
IMHO, Mapopolis ( http://www.mapopolis.com ) may serve your purpose better. The map is more up-to-date than TomTom's, and you can try it for free for a couple of days. However, Mapopolis does lack some good features of TomTom, like 3-D view.

PPC Is pocket pc wm5 is the operating system
i got tom tom and Iguidance working! both look good!
i just have to wait and test it with the gps reciever that i bought. but I may just go out and purchase tomtom b/c many recommend it..
Im using I-go with the american states maps. I like it alot. You can "find" a "test copy" of it on the web with very little searching along with all the north american maps.
I like that it has overhead view, 3d view, night mode, instant re-routing if you miss a turn, voice commands with different voice packs, a ton of usa points of interest and lots of other features. The maps are more current then tomtom also.
YG-PM!
YG-PM!
Guess what.. I got my gps receiver today. YAY!!!!!!
this is what i did:
1. Turn Bluetooth ON
2. put the gps in pairing mode
3. Click on new partnership
4. It find teh gps and give it "xyz-gps"
5. I give the gps outgiong port "com 6"
@ this point the gps in bt setting has a big yellow circle with a question mark next to it.
so i go to Iguidance and tomtom 5 none of them will detect the gps reciever. SOO frustrated rite now. bout to throw Wizard and gps out the window!!! not really but u can imagine my frustration.
I wil try to use the Search function, but if anyone can help me out that would be AWESOME!!
Let me knwo if im doing something incorrectly... most likely i am!

NVM, I got Iguidance to work, but tomtom5 is still being a pain

I've got Version 6 working, a bit of a pain to get a version of it that works without the problems mentioned elsewhere in the site. Also have to watch for the GPS set up via bluetooth, its not totally intuative on the M600. Other than that, it works well and does not crash like V5.21 does on my Axim
Then get TomTom. I have v5.21 and it works fine.

Yes. There's no way to connect a wired GPS.
M600 and Route66
I recently did quite lot of research and found what I needed. A fairly basic GPS route finder system, that does, contrarary to the manufacturers website, 7 figure postcode searches, with updatable POI speed camera database (as long as you're prepared to fiddle with the CSV files with the camera info in).
I bought Route66 Navigator 7 for PPC (UK/Ireland) from Expansys. The manufacturers guff doesnt actually state that it works with WM5 but it does. I bought this because it did what I want and it was pretty cheap. The speed camera database also doesnt seem to be mentioned, but loaded onto the PPC with the rest of the software. I had no installation problems, the hardest part was waiting for the software to load the maps onto my SD card. I would recommend quite a fast card speed and make sure theres plenty of space as UK maps take up about 250ish Mb.
I got a Sirfstar III blue tooth GPS receiver from here
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/...MF-homepage&utm_source=prod2&utm_medium=10939
I paid £60 a couple of months ago and nows its £45 ! Gutted. This also works a treat. Paired up no problem. An article i read helped with this which is linked here; http://www.bbits.co.uk/blog/archive/...2/28/7210.aspx
I used it to travel to central London with my family and managed to get there pretty much stress free. Signals were clear and with plenty of notice, lots of POI available, like pubs, hotels, etc. I found a web site that will let you download POI, the link is here somewhere;
http://www.tomtomsatnav.info/index.html
Although it does say TomTom in the header there lots of other stuff here as well. Another good site for Route66 queries is here;
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=86
Hope this helps. im not on commision I promise you. Thought I would give something back maybe of use, after frequenting this forum on numerous occasions.

Best Sat Nav software?

What does everyone think is the best Sat Nav software to use with the Trin? I'm a fan of Navigon Mobile Navigator, I've tried a few others but I can't decide which one to keep for sure...
I personally like Tomtom.. as everybody will tell you. I used iGuidance a bit but it kind of lagged and I like Tomtom's interface better. I still want to try Navigon but they don't have a trial on their website so meh.
I've tried Iguidance 2&3 and tomtom 6 on p3600 with the axl wm6 rom.
I only like Iguidance version 2 though as version 3 has significant voice lags. I believe it is the recordings that are messed up and might be able to swap over the audio files from version 2 to version 3 install folders.
TOMTOM 6 works great once it has loaded which takes about 3-4 minutes for me. I need it to load faster to be useable. I think the POI database on tomtom is better though i've not done any comparisons.
think am getting iguidance 4
Hi,
I haved use the TomTom 6 for a while, but Igo 2006 have a best interface. Not to say also that TomTom need the atifix software for not to freeze. You should try Igo 2006 and you will see that you do not need anything else.
Best
Dave
Tomtom all the way for me......really simple to you and works for what I want. (I have only tried TT and CoPilot though)
No1. MioMap ( iGo)
Very close No2. TomTom.
You can not go wrong with these two. Stay well away from Navigon.
I could not coment on any others since I have not tried them.
I have tested Mio 3.2 and TT 6 on my Trinity and both work seamlesly.
You can have both of these installed and they will work happily alongside each other.

Can anyone help me out with the Orange GPS software. I have downloaded it and shows the gps as not active, any suggestions please.
I have called orange but they are hopeless.
cheers
Where are the maps voor iGo 4?
1st thing to check is that you have a GPS enabled ROM. All Orange SPV M700's are supposed to, but it seems a few slipped through the net. Also, if you have 'unlocked' the device, your radio ROM may have been replaced by an old version.
Go to Start/Settings/System/Device Information and look at the entry for Radio ROM. If it ends in **.11 you are OK; if not you will need to update the Radio ROM.
Have you got the Orange Navigation (Webraska) configured to COM9 and 57600 Baud? These are the default settings for the M700.

3-4 Minutes? Mine loads in 10 seconds and I've never had it freeze or crash.
How many POI's do you have selected? That apparently can slow it down a bit.

Ireland is included in the maps of western europe, or if you prefer just the maps of UK and IE. So it is present.
I've used igo 2006 and tomtom 6 for quite a while. While I like Igo much more than tomtom, the traffic system on tomtom is cool and to get traffic on Igo you need TMC Antenna. The only GPS units I found that have those cost the earth, so I am sticking with tomtom. And of course, because tomtom is soooo common, you find lots of people trying to customise it and as a consequence, you get thousands of poi's, many many cool voices... etc.
But to put things in perspective, if I had traffic on Igo, I would switch without a second thought. Hope this helps.

TomTom 7 on XV6800

Hello,
I'm looking into enabling gps on my VZW XV6800 and I saw that the TomTom7 is out. Does the TomTom 7 work on the XV6800 or will I have to use the TomTom6?
Thanks,
Chris

I'm an advance GPS user with a Verizon Titan (XV6800) and custom ROM. I'm fully unlocked with a completely functioning GPS (no AGPS here and no digital connection fees).
I'm really impressed with Garmin XT for the phone and novice users. The added features through WIFI are very good. Speedcams and other added features are easily obtained for for a small fee or free for experienced users (lots of sites to download free).
Superior of all the SW out there is IGO8, 3D terrain and 3D buildings in major cities (WoW). Highly customizable --- the very best (NavNGO.com)
I would not buy or desire to use Tom Tom, I have over 40 hours of use and do not like their SW no matter how I try.
Least expensive SW with the greatest utility (including free trial) is POLNav v5.
RangerDave and ShadowT thanks for the info.
RangerDave could you point me in the direction where I can download the TT7 for the XV6800? Also I believe that once I have the TT7 running it will ask me to download a map of my area to demo correct?
Thanks,
Chris

Well since you have 2 posts here I will tell you like this.
Dear Mr @%$^*!$$.
Asking for free software is not following the rules here.
You will either pay $$ for it or hit up your other friend "google" and see what he says. Even with google you may still pay for it with a nice fat bug on your pc.
I'm not going to tel you how to get it for free unless tomtom web site has a free trial, then you still have to unlock the software, optain the map, unlock the map, create a pair of files with some special code that were a pain in the butt..............
RD
Ok,
I'm not looking at getting it for free what I'm not understanding is you said you had TT7 working. I go to TomTom's site I don't see TT7 Navigator only TT5 and TT6. Then I read that the Navigator is free but you have to buy the maps. I don't have a problem buying the maps as long as I know it works on my phone. From what I had read in other posts is that you can install TT7 and then through TT7 go to the TomTom site and download a demo map of your area. This is what I want to try to find out if I can get it working on my phone. I know I have to do some rom upgrades and radio upgrades to get GPS working on the phone but I would like to try it with a Demo if they have one before I go out and buy it. When I asked for a link I was more referring to a link on TomTom's site where the TT7 could be downloaded with the demo maps. However I can't even find TT7 on the site at all.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
I have the mogul 6800 and have the TT7 and it is pretty reliable- so highly recommend it. I paid someone (works at cellphone place) to upgrade my rom (Sprint) and get the GPS working. I have also tried iGO8 but it was somewhat buggy... but great app. My bud has iGuidance 09 on his XV6800, it works great as the TT7 and doesn't hogg the few memory that the htc 6800 has... But my other bud has the HTC Touch Pro with Garmin TX and that is the best one, visual speaking..
But I say the TT7 is just right for the 6800... I hear the new Diamond2 will also pre-installed too.
Worth upgrading to get the GPS working...
Good luck Chris...
ok so I have TT7 loaded on my XV6800 and I have the "Valhalla_Legends_GPSServer" running in Mode=0. Google maps works great about 6 sats. GPS Toggle also says about 6 sats and another program I have for gps works. However when I have TomTom up the GPS signals keep jumping all over the place. Not the normal slight jumping but I'll go from North South East West and back and forth. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
So i've got TomTom working by using GpsGate 2.6 and setting tomtom to use Other NMEA GPS receiver with baud rate of 9600 and the Franson COM2. I'm not sure why it's working this way but then again I wasn't sure why the GPS cordinates where jumping all over when I had it set to use Internal GPS without GpsGate. The problem I have right now is that GpsGate is only a demo for 14 days. Does anyone know of a freeware app that will do the same thing or another way to get TomTom to work?
Thanks
I installed TomTom 7 on my XV6800 with all the maps and it works, but it says: "No GPS device!"
My GPS is unlocked and was working with google navigator, but the problem is that i have to have wifi to download maps and such.
Can someone help me getting the GPS activated with TomTom?

Copilot or TomTom

hi all -
have a big car trip coming up and wanted to know what people thought about what are apparently the 2 best mobile gps softwares.
i have used Copilot but never tom tom on a phone but obviously know Tom Tom by reputation.
is it worth investing in Tom Tom which is more than Copilot or are they about the same?

I'd recommend CoPilot, purely from a cost-effective angle. It's cheaper.
TomTom is great (I had it on my Diamond and then my HD and swore by it), but CoPilot also looks better. As well as that, pinch to zoom works, you can make the map area fill the screen, it's more configurable, and it's just nicer.
TomTom's really good - I'm not knocking it. I prefer CoPilot, without doubt.
I have used both and its Co-Pilot every time.
WB
Tomtom looks a bit dated, copilot works perfectly and looks good as well
I've used both. On my last pda I stopped using a previous bought version of Copilot due to its routing, and bought TomTom. From reading many forums, the strange routing issue is still there and I had a problem in my trial which means I am looking for something else. It gets you there but not necessarily the quickest route.
I like the screen layout of TT with things like speed, speed limit, time, ETA and much more on the display - Copilot is VERY limited.
But try Copilot on roads and journeys you know - they have a 15 day trial on the HD2. TomTom say they do not support the HD2 but many people have it working.
There's only 1 way to find out...
FIGHT!!!
I'm so used to tomtom I dont like copilot, dont like the keyboard layout not being changeable and dont like the lack of qucik button like in tomtom..
My copilot trial is up so trying something called waze at the mo, will see how well that pans out..

Another vote for CoPilot. I used TomTom on my TouchPro and it was good, but I like CoPilot better...
Tomtom gives me better routes and the gps seems more accurate, for example Copilot puts me on the main road outside my street whereas Tomtom points to exactly where I am...
CoPilot is crap. Odd routings and it actually got me lost on one of the three occasions I used it! Sometimes it just completely loses the plot and tells you to turn right when it means left etc. Nokia OVI maps sat nav is excellent and by far the best navigation software I've ever used. Such a shame they won't port it to non-Nokia handsets! I can't comment on Tom Tom as I've never tried it.

sat nav
I would normally swear by tomtom 7... its good and easy... but i paid £24.99 a little while ago and am now using co-pilot 8... its also the default when you use the car nav menu...
I would now say Co-pilot 8... the lane indication is a cool idea.. i have not heard of i Go 8...
will have to look into it
Copilot
Get Copilot Live 8. I like it more and more, and almost never launch TomTom.
CoPilot sounds great value and looks sweet. Then you use it a few times and realise it's actually rubbish. I mean, bad routings, it gets you lost....need I go on? Tom Tom isn't actually released for the HD2 and therefore it involves loads of fannying and tweaking to get the thing working on this handset...so that one's out too. IGO8 is the one then, yes? Um, not at £120 it isn't!!
So is there actually a viable sat nav for Windows Mobile? One that works as it should and costs less than £60 (I only require UK maps so am not forking-out for the whole of Europe!)???
i prefere tomtom.Copilot is not so efficient in calculating right routeplan.
Somebody knows how uninstall it?

Untill someone comes out with a cooked ROM you can't as it's built into the ROM itself and isn't an "added on" application....
Do you guys noticed weird things with gps position when the your car is not moving? My Tom Tom is navigating me somewhere and for example there is a red light and i've to stop my car, then while i'm staing and not moving at all tomtom is showing me that i'm still moving 2km/h 3km/h for another 10 second and sometimes getting crazy and moving left and right.
Do you have similar problem? My ver of tom tom is 7.916.9189 i tryed older and is this same
