Hi everyone, I've been playing around with the Xperia for a while now and was previously using the Touch Pro. Just wondering, is there any autocorrect feature to correct slight typing mistakes like what's done on the Touch Pro? That's something I really miss espcially since I find myself making more mistakes with the Xperia's keyboard.
there is autocorrect feature in x1i. i did try it in sms, msn & note, etc. of course it only deals with some minor mistakes like "thsi" or something like this.
Hi
Yep, there is under settings.-->personal-->input You'll have to tell it to suggest after xx or a space (mine was set to suggest after a space).
Also, this all gets messed up if you install the touch HD keyboard (elsewhere on this forum). The touch HD KB appears to have its own built in auto-correct/complete, installing it disables the autocomplete for the hardware keyboard. Uninstalling it fixes this (uninstall takes 5 mins plus).

Thanks Cool2046, you're right about the keyboard autocorrect, it only corrects really minor mistakes and isnt as robust as the Touch Pro.
And thanks to Veltron for the warning about the Touch HD keyboard cab. Guess that's something I better avoid, sure didn't enjoy the long installation process that came with the TouchFlo3D port.
The auto correct is really not very good at least with teh engilsh I use wehn tpynig wtih a tniy keboard...
I got my X10 2 days ago. Previously i was using iPhone. Everybody know iPhone user interface is simply awesome. I like X10 as well. the issue currently i am facing is that when i type my messages some times i missed the letter and i have to press the letter again. specially letter 'a'. I am using android keyboard. Is this issue is because of keyboard or it's software issue. i know touch is perfect because i can see zoom in image of the letter. I also tried to disable sound, vibrate, dictionary etc. but no luck so far.
though in landscape it works fine.
Can anybody guide me how can i solve this issue?
Thanks,
I had the same problem with both the Android and standard keyboards.
The only way I fixed it was to install the HTC Keyboard. Works fantastic and it has a calibration tool so you can make it even more accurate than it already is.
Search for HTC X10 keyboard on google, I think there is a tutorial on esato or se-nse.
I'm afraid that this has become old news when it comes to the x10.
At the moment I can only suggest a workaround or two.
I have installed the HTC keyboard which I find very accurate. It can also be customized to allow the volume controls to control the cursor whilst typing.
Personally I find this to be the best solution.
Better keyboard is a paid app that can be downloaded from the market and offers another good solution.
I have heard in posts that swipe keyboard is another good alternative.
Finally I have heard that upgrading to the latest firmware available may help things. I debranded and upgraded to 1.6 but I still used the HTC as its familiar.
Another option is the Smart Keyboard Pro
yo try the app called shape writer. Its simply amazing, u will love it
HTC keyboard.. easy & free
Smart Keyborad PRO & Swype are also good options
actually the true problem to this is the sluggishness of the touchscreen which you'll experience in most other applications as well. the only solution is to type slower since no matter which keyboard you try you will always experience some random unset delay after each key before it actually registers on the screen. that by itself will hinder your ability to type fast and will introduce additional typos.
If you use SlideIT keyboard then you won't have any problems with sluggishness. ( which I've not experienced anyway). Its not as attractive add swype, but I find it much more accurate.

Sent from my X10i,
using SlideIT keyboard.
You can have landscape size buttons in portrait with 'Big Buttons' keyboard from the market, it takes a chunk of screen but your typing will be perfect
Thanks a lot, i just trid "big buttons", love it, the best one for people like me who are not very handy with their fingers

make sure you correctly enable the htc_ime mod keyboard from the list of keyboards in the input method options.
to bring up the input method option, when your vr keyboard is visible, long press any area where you input text and select htc ime mod.
If the htc keyboard is not available from that list, go to settings, locale and text and tick htc keyboard.

It does not matter if you type slow. it's some other issue i can't figure out the reason maybe SE know it well. you can saw a issue which can't be replicated
I guess the problems of typing are related also to the protective screen

i don't think so. because other keyboards are working fine. the problem is with the firmware
I'm using shapewriter keyboard (free on the android market) ... perfect alternative to the swype keyboard & similar as well for those who arent able to get their hands on swype due to its limited beta release
Try ThickButton - it's pretty awesome - predicts what you want to type, and expands the size of appropriate keys, making the others smaller... You can also select how much they'll expand by (esp if you have really fat fingers, or type with your toes.)
So, is there such a thing for the QWERTY keyboard on our phones? Doesn't matter if it is Russian or Bulgarian, for example.
What do you mean with "cyrilization"? I tried to look that word up on the dictionary but without success. Could you try to explain what you are looking for?
It's simple
I guess, he meant "make hardware keyboard to type russian chars". Yes, it's quite simple - just install Russian Keyboard from Android Market. There is several presets for hardware keyboard - Milestone PRE, Milestone 1, Phonetic, or you can customize it by yourself.
Somebody also reports, that Smart Keyboard Pro also work for cyrillization, but I didn't try it.
I was very pleased with the HTC Sense keyboard that came with the HTC Desire Z. This keyboard was perfect, it clearly showed what words it saved into my personal dictionary, corrected simple spelling mistakes - normally with very nice accuracy. Correctly punctuation perfectly. It was just perfect.
Now after switching to CM 7 I cannot find a keyboard that suits my needs.
Swiftkey: Very nice, a bit too big of suggestions, but it does not learn from the words I use at all. This was with trial version, does the full version fix this?
Smart Keyboard: Learns from my words, but its suggestions are buggy. It does not autocorrect nearly enough, often missing many words, doesn't correct punctuation etc. And also it will show my passwords while typing, I mean in the suggestion box. Entry box is *****, but suggestion box shows it plain as day.
Any way to fix these problems or are they other apps I should try for physical keyboard?
i love swype
i know you can install the htc soft keyboard on top of cyanmod, but what I don't know is if it only effects the onscreen keyboard. Worse case scenario is it does nothing for your physical keyboard, but that doesnt leave you any worse than you already are so check it out lol.
I'd check for you but htc keyboard makes me rage so much. I use swype for onscreen and I cant tolerate the autocorrect when im using the physical keys lol.
I know you can get the stock HTC keyboard here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
im using something called HTC_IME not sure exactly what keyboard its from, but i asked for it on here in the apps section calling for a keyboard that is the same as the mt4g one. been great for me
I use uberkeyboard, its about £1.50 but has auto production & grammar correction for the physical keyboard.
The software keyboard it comes with isn't to pretty but it does the job!

Any updates on this?
I'm in the same situation as Bob. I just ROM'd my HTC to Cyanogenmod 7, but the keyboard doesn't suffice.
I installed the apk of HTC_IME floating around, but it's only for the touch input, not for the built-in keyboard. So far nothing compares to the built-in keyboard software from HTC. Is there any way of ripping it out of the stock HTC ROM when rooted?
I use the paid version of SwiftKey, and it's terrific. It learns so well from the way I type that it's a bit creepy. It even scans all of your sent messages when you start it. I can't recommend it highly enough. My only gripe is that it doesn't support skinning yet.
where i can find htc ime for your Iconia's ?
or something other keyboard but stock is so fcking pathetic -.-
nice language.
Kids use this forum.please no bad language.
Not totally sure what your asking. Question was kinda vague. Butthe best tablet keyboard is thumbs plus. Just do a search for tablet keyboard in market.or thumbs.
Good luck.

this is a link to this keyboard what i want for our Iconia ;x
ps. sorry i think all know what is htc ime mod ;o
to be honest the stock keyboard isnt bad. could use arrow keys though.
Multilingual on the market. Make sure to get your correct language plugin.
Hackers keyboard is what I use, its very capable, and has arrow keys..
SmartKeyboardPro allows you to recreate exactly the same experience as HTC IME (even the look of it) and it even adds some nice features.
