Guys,
Not sure whether you notice that when using the Touch HD Keyboard for typing SMS in T9 mode, it will pause for a while in between some times, kind of irritating.
Any ways to work around it?

Has anyone noticed the onscreen keypad responds slower than wm2003 for instance? even in my old xda2i, when it frooze for a few seconds, you could keep typing and it would catch up letter for letter. HD seems to miss letterseven normally. This issue is further highlighted whe i connected a bluetooth keyboard to it. response time is awful, you can''t trpe properly on it atall. any ways to speed the input responce up?
which keypad are you using, and in which orientation?
I type reasonably quickly, and it keeps up most of the time.
I do get an occasional pause when typing longer emails, and it does then miss out some letters - but not often enough for it to be a pain, just a minor irritation.
I'm still on bog standard keyboard, using gyrator2.
I do seem to get different keyboards depending on what app I'm in though (I think!).
Im using the basic keyboard. (can't use the qwerty one at all!!) and I'm running gyrator in the background also. (though not typing in landscape or anything)
Bluetooth keyboard wise it's the think outside bluetooth keyboard, which worked fine on my last ppc. The drivers I have crash all the time, but it still works.... just the input takes too long to update to make a full size keyboard usable in normal typing speed.
This is a FRUSTRATION!

I use the default keyboards but mainly I use TouchPal and I can type as fast as anything on that.
I have the problem of slight freezes, but not that the keyboard lags...
Is there a program that will let me type with my finger on screen? I have looked and had no luck. My problem is I work 12 hour shifts in a car and sometimes it would be nice to be able to send sms like I was using a standard phone. Sorry if I just missed the app and just for info I am running DCD 3.2.6 and looking at upgrading now.
i have i believe atoms phone pad which is the normal keypad on screen with t9 support/numeric/alpha, so if i need a quick txt no need to slide the keyboard out the push the on screen keyboard and go at it like a normal phone.

This is the only onscreen keyboard you will ever need. Also it sets itself as default keyboard and stays that way even after soft reset.
Also stay with 3.2.6, not quite as much memory as 3.3.xx but much less buggy with calling screen and wierd sounds and stuff. If you are having memory issues install oxios.
Hey all,
Just looking at getting this phone but not sure about something. Im a big time texter and love a proper slide out qwerty keyboard. I however like this phone.
What is the SMS like with the on screen keyboard? Is it workable? I've seen online that you can change the keyboard style but not sure if this control is on SMS. Can you change the keyboard on SMS too?
I've also read a post where someone said the on screen keyboard was in the way of a new text when looking at a thread of sms conversation. And you have to keep scrolling down. Still a problem? Bad one? Fixed?
What do you think really? Would love this phone to come out with a "HD PRO" keyboard.
Thanks all,
D.
I use the standard keyboard, and got used to using the compact qwerty keyboard. At the beginning I was slow mainly due to using the keypad style as in my previous phones. But now I can type very fast and very comfortably. You can also activate a click sound everytime you press a key and it will give you feedback. But I type perfect without it anyway.
Guys,
Those who have installed the Touch HD Keyboard, can I ask you all some questions?
1) Where to install the keyboard? Phone or Storage Card?
2) Do you encounter some pause when keying SMS like the keyboard hang for a few seconds when in the midst of typing your SMS?
Nobody using the HD Blackstone keyboard?

1) Phone
2) If you type in rapidly then it is the dreaded "hang after multiple rapid touch inputs" on XPERIA and Touch HD described here.

Thanks for the link and are you using this keyboard? I have seen that there is a fix but not sure whether it works?

Yes I am using the keyboard but the problem is not keyboard specific.

You mean you don't encounter the slight pause like everyone did? You have problem with the keyboard also?

I mean that because I am not typing so fast on the on-screen keyboard I rarely encounter that problem, but if I play a game (where I am mashing the screen rapidly) I get it all the time.
Whatever you do if you are touching the screen fast at some point you will trigger the problem.

Thanks, initially I thought the problem lies on our X1 and now I know it is HTC keyboard problem.
Not sure whether the fix will resolve the problem on our X1 though it might fix the original keyboard in HTC devices.

No it is not a keyboard problem. It is a device/software problem independent of virtual keyboards. You can get this specific behaviour on the microsoft virtual keyboard, on games and every imaginable application. All you have to do is rapidly press the touch screen anywhere, if you do it very fast and consistently the device will freeze for a couple of seconds and then resume.
So once again it is not "HTC virtual keyboard" (SIP) specific. Don't get confused.

actually there is a pause caused by the install of this keyboard.
even using the hardware X1 keyboard my first letter entered will display 2nd or 3rd in my word.
so in a text message when i open the phone and start typing "windows" it will enter in "inwdows" i have to learn to wait a second before typing.

I never use the default keyboard though so not sure whether there is pause when keying any text but I was told that some users also encounter the same pause problem even using the default keyboard.
So hope that problem do not exist in the new WM6.5.

Yes I've encountered that behaviour on the "hardware" keyboard too, but how is this related to the blackstone HTC "virtual" keyboards?
Is it possible to set two different input methods? Ideally, I'd like to use Swype if the phone is upright and have the phone switch automatically to multi-touch keyboard when I slide the keyboard out. I have looked around on the phone and am not sure if this is possible.

I was looking for a way to do this a while back, but didn't have any luck. For me the perfect setup would be Swype in portrait mode and HTC IME in landscape. I really hope somebody finds a solution for this.
bump. Anyone know? Maybe this should be moved to the general forum?
I think I have it. If you disable auto-rotate and try to type a text upright it will pull up the multi-touch (or swype) soft keyboard but if you slide out the keyboard and start typing it will input that way.
Does that work for you guys?
Edit: I don't think auto rotate has anything to do with input method, sorry.
Can you clarify your question? where do you want to input stuff? text?
Well, you know how if you start typing on the slide out keyboard, word suggestions and punctuation will be available at the very bottom of the touch screen for quick access? That only happens when multi-touch keyboard is enabled. If you type on the slide out with Swype enabled, this doesn't happen and makes typing on the keyboard take a lot longer than it would otherwise.
So I was asking if there was a way to make the phone automatically switch input methods based on its orientation. If it's upright, Swype for faster text input on a touch screen. If it's horizontal or the KB is out, multi-touch keyboard for faster KB typing.
And yes, this is for all text entry.
