Force SE Update Service tool to update to new language? - XPERIA X1 General

I was wondering whether there would be any way to trick the SE Update Service tool into putting the English firmware onto my (currently Dutch) phone? At this point I'm a bit worried about using Hard-SPL, etc to get an English rom onto the device as I might have to return it to the shop within a few weeks in order to get the case breakage (at the stylus) fixed, so modifying it to much might make the shop decide to take no action into solving the crack issue for me . Doing it a legal way somehow with the SE Update Service tool, might be okay I think.

the way you describe would be considerated just as illegal as the other. Cause you are obtaining something you have not paid for..

you all have proberbly heard this problem before but i am new to the xda scene i recently tried to upgrade my radio stack from o2 and it crashed halfway thru now my xda has a gsm error on the bootup menu 5.15 when it turns on i get the windows screen(the one with the field) but the stylus wont work because the screen isnt configured i have a 256meg memory card
please help!!!!!!
Sorry for that Dranny, many people has the same problem, it seems the way out depends on which part of your system files were damaged, some people managed to solve it by removing the battery and re-installing it after a while, some found the battery fuse damaged, some also (as in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4123 ) managed to repair it. The rest of us, didn't succeed yet. Hope you have a better luck than some of us.
There is also a Canadian member here who says he can Flash the device, I think he does it for a fee, well, it is his right of course, but for me, I'm taking it as a challenge. I don't need my damaged XDA, so to me it is only to learn how to do it.It also seems that service centers can flash it for you.
Best of luck mate. please if you had luck with it, post it as this will give more hope to the rest of us.
i phoned o2 today and luckily its still under warranty
thanks for your comments

Weird problem - Compact staying switched off!

Hello!
So, a brand new MDA Compact, and a weird problem.
Sometimes, when I 'switch it off' via the Power button - it stayes switched off?! :?
Simple as that - the only way to turn it back on is to do a soft-reset...
The signal LED blinks just like everything is OK...
I tried with 4 different ROM combinations, from 1.06 to 1.13, nothing helped...
Does anybody have an idea what to do with it?
BTW,
which ROM did you find the most fastest, most stable etc.?
Thanx in advance.
Someone must do a sticky or a FAQ topic for this sort of prob that so many people are starting to encounter.
If u do some experiment on ur compact, u can easily see that the device isn't waking up only when is COLD (I believe that there is some heat-sensible contacts inside that prevents unit to power on) this may seems strange, I thought I was the only to had this prob, but I am seeing more and more of this.
Sorry, but unless u want to manually open the whole thing and try to repair for urself, u're better getting it to the nearest repairing center.
If u do so, remember always to install the original ROM, since they can say that is a software manomission problem and will sending u back the device with no warranty (they already did it with me: but I can't believe that I regained the warranty simply putting it the original software and sending it in the same repairing center; before they asked me 275€ for mainboard, now they repaired it for free!!!)
So here is it. I've passed a winter with the unit always in coma. Send it to the repair center, say that it doesn't power on when cold and they will repair it..
Good luck! MocciJ

So you say there's no other solution then to take it to the service center?
Damn!
Anybody have an original ROM that came with the Croatian T-Mobile MDA Compact's?
CE ROM in it was 1.06, I am sure of that, but where to find ExtROM that was used here?
As far I know, this is the only possible solve, unless someone decides to open the magician (voiding the warranty) and see what's wrong on it.. For the ROM: u have to install at least a rom with same brand and language of the original; u're better try first at the ftp before searching on the net..

Eurotwice repair service and WM6

I managed to reduce the screen-alignment problems of my TyTN using the credit card technique described in the wiki. However, it did not disappear completely.
I’m considering to send the device for repair. Repairs for Dutch customers are done by eurotwice.be
Off course like many others I upgraded my TyTN to WM6. Since the radio is also upgraded it wouldn’t make much sense downgrading the OS to WM5 because a radio-downgrade is not possible (correct me if I’m wrong here)
Furthermore: it would be a waste of time to downgrade it just for the screen (hardware!) repair, only to upgrade the OS after the hardware problem is solved.
Has anybody offered their OS (and radio) upgraded device for repair by eurotwice and –more important- did eurotwice made a problem of it?
If im thinking the same way as the service centre would, they would be more bothered about the modifications done with the credit card technique.
I sent my TyTN for repair with an updated ROM in it (and thus a newer SPL/IPL and Radio) It was a HTC ROM but not one found on thier site (there has been NO ROMS posted on thier site YET). They didnt even touch the ROM at all and fixed it no problems. Had I tried the credit card thing I think the story would be different.

I guess your correct.
The thing is: it did help to reduce the problem.
Just for the record: I didn't us use a creditcard but a piece of thin plastic. The kind which is used as cover when binding printouts
There's no 'outside' damage and no tampering with screws or anything else, but the probably notice something when they actually open the device?
I have contacted HTc about the screen alignment problem. they replied that i have to wait for the official wm6 rom upgrade which will be available from their website end july 2007. we r now end july and there is no wm6 download on their site! do any of u think that a rom upgrade to wm6 will help? or is this purely a hardware problem? i think that htc is pushing off the problem untill my waranty runs out!

WM6 upgrade is now available (as of 31/07) for all HTC eClub members.
Stony
i'd say its safe to send for repair,i dont think they will care about wm6 and the screen will have to be seperated from the chassis anyway which will obliterate ant signs of mod/repair

Butting heads with the service center

Had my HD2 since November, screen quit responding to touch. Hard reset multiple times, finally gave up and sent it in for service. Got an e-mail from the service center with the following:
Diagnosis:
Mianboard hacked/illegal software.
If you cover the price for mainboard replacement they will take care of the touch panel issue in warranty for you.
Suggested Repair:
Replace Mainboard.
Total Repair Price:
$317.43
I argued with the service center manager for about 15 minutes, explaining to him that I had never flashed a hacked ROM. He's supposed to be provide me with proof that the mainboard was hacked tomorrow.
It wasn't until I got off the phone that I realized that I had loaded HSPL and when I looked at the NOOB guidelines again, found out that it didn't get overwritten when I flashed from 1.43 to 1.66. That must be what they are talking about.
Not sure how this is going to play out, I never loaded any cooked ROM's. Is there a way for the service center to see that's the case? Will they simply say that the HSPL software constitutes the mainboard being hacked, end of story?
What do you think?
Sorry for the cross post, thought this may be a better forum for this issue.

Yup most likely.
Refuse repair, and tell them to send you the phone back unrepaired.
Overwrite HSPL with stock SPL as explained in the HSPL thread
Send the phone in again.
Solved
If they want to play fools (they of course know HSPL can't be the source of the problem), you can too.
yep its the hspl that is the bad part. they wouldn't have said anything about a cooked rom most likely, its the hspl that is the dodgy part.
Thanks Kilrah, I thought of that but it I also thought it would be too obvious to the service center. Might be worth a try if they balk at the repair though.
Yep of course there's a risk they take a note of it, linking it with the phone's S/N, and that they see it the 2nd time. But you'll most likely fall on someone else, plus if they do moan again you can always ask them to show evidence, which they won't be able to do this time... and even if they still insist you'll have just lost shipping. If they don't, you save the amount of the repair

Just got to thinking, when I flash using the sd card technique to remove the HSPL, will it go through the entire process without any prompting or need for screen input? If they send the phone back without fixing the screen, I won't be able to initiate any prompts on the screen.

HD2 touch-screen repair need help

Few days ago my touch screen died. I know many have reported it, but most of this thread don't have any answer how to repair it. Best answer they get is send it to HTC, but we cant all do that. My question is, if i replace my touch-screen will it work again, do i need anything else to replace? Plz need answer form someone who knows what he is talking about, I don't want to waste my money on something that cant be fixed.
Check out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922503
From what I can read, it seems it's the digitizer and not the actual screen.
Have you tried flashing WinMo or an SD build back to see if it fixes it? It does for me.
Yea i read that thread and nope tried going back to stock and its still there. what i rly what to know is what is causing this, what part of the phone? It seems to be related to the end call button, since it gets worse when i press it hard. Maybe adjusting the hard buttons could help? Well i contacted HTC maybe they can give me a smart answer but i doubt it they sad to hard reset the phone, maybe they are just trolling me...
Contact your carrier. If it's still in warranty, they may replace the phone. Also if you pay your carrier monthly for an insurance policy, that may cover it as well. If not, but it covers accidental damage or theft or lost of the phone . . . .
