Woah!!!
Impressive!!!
my feeback:
when i run the program for the first time it's not full screen for the top and i need to press (Home) button so the program goes to the background and call itself again to work properly
anyway i liked it and i think with some more developing it'll be fantastic!
keep up the good work!
Prof.Kamil
I have to say man. I'm very impressed. You've managed to do what LogMeIn has been doing commerically. I love that it's free. I for one love the functionality, it is not that attractive in my opinion, but the functionality matters more. I'll be keeping this app.
Kraize
P.S I like your music choice
Cool! I did something similar with Omnipresence a while ago (check my signature), but got bored with it, as I do with many of my other projects. I actually mean to open source that code as a reference to other developers. Cool stuff nonetheless!
Edit:
What sort of compression algorithms are you using? Are you just sending raw frame buffers, or sending PNGs in sequence? Are you sending the entire screen, or just the portion being viewed?
Remote Touch is my first app for my first WiMo phone.
I made it as I couldn't find anything free that was
fast (fast = quick start up, quick to control). I use it mainly
to control my PC attached to my plasma when watching movies or
listening to music. Also for transferring music across from
my PC without having to connect my HTC Touch every time (so annoying !).
It's a work in progress ... will fix them over time.
@Koush:
I use an algorithm similar to deflate - my own though.
Can definitely improve on it ...
great application indeed...
yeah i was looking for something like this! thanks a lot!

definitely a nice app! keep up the good work m8!

I've used mediafire for sharing as well. (I'm not a fan of rapidshare).
Can you go back to my website and try again ?

Can you email me details of your phone ? ([email protected])
I have a feeling the reason you couldn't run it again (or seemed like it) was the old instance was still possibly running on your phone and the new instance was trying to connect but the server was still connected to the old instance.
killed the instance and no go either.
made a SR and now working but without the menu - home button helps
Color me impressed!
I've used LogMeIn, RemoteDesktop, etc. to control a desktop from my mobile device and they work, but this just seems a bit faster all around than the others (which I know was the point *grin*).
I tested it connected directly to my PC which of course was fast, but it's very usable over a 3G internet connection as well.
There are certainly bugs to be worked out and refinements to be made, but I'll be following the development closely. Luckily the bug where you get no menu bar isn't a show stopper for me as I have a "home" hardware button that for some reason always fixes the missing menu bar. I'll send in some feature requests to the email address listed.
Thanks for your work on this!
Nice but doesnt work in landscape on my Samsung Omnia and in portrait the image looks a bit squeezed.
Yeah it doesn't work right in landscape mode which is honestly the best way to see more of the screen IMO.
The looking squeezed problem seems to be related to the fact that you aren't able to select what you view using any sort of set aspect ratio so if you select a long rectangle then it squeezes that region to fit your mobile screen. I suppose that could be useful at times, but I feel we need an option to select a rectangle that already matches the aspect ratio of our mobile screen so what we view may be zoomed, but never has to be distorted (squeezed or stretched.)
another problem. I can connect using cable but when I try wifi with 192..... or www. (dyndns) the best I can get is black screen (it connects but I can't see the desktop). I've setup my router to leave proper port open but no go. any ideas?

Actually, Remote touch tries to remember the aspect ratio across sessions, which was something I really wanted, so if I zoomed in on something and reconnected, I'd be looking at the same thing and the same zoom level.
To fix the problem your talking about, goto Menu > Reset and it will bring the aspect ratio back to 1:1 with your screen (so useful when you go to landscape mode).

I'm thinking the problem is related to something another person had similar issues with:

Ok guys, I know I've promised this for a while, but sl9 got me thinking that I should just try my WM2003 code, and lo and behold, it works on WM5.
Guys: I'm presenting a beta of fullscreen terminal services.
It works on WM2003 and WM5 in QGVA or VGA, landscape or portrait.
It's a beta. In that, it's got issues and it's not final.
I'm going to add scrollbar hiding and some navigation bits and bobs and some other stuff.
Usage is easy, but this is only for advanced users right now for reasons forthcoming:
Load VJFullscreenTSC. I recommend putting it in your Start Menu or assign it to a hardware button.
On launching you'll see a small (TINY) little indicator in the top left corner: some blue dots. Thing is, this thing overlays on the start button to be discrete, but occassionaly it gets covered over with the start button again and you lose it. If you do, bring up your start menu somehow and if you've got a task manager, switch to VJFullscreenTSC and you should see the little dots.
Ok, launch Terminal services client. (If you choose fullscreen TSC from the VJFullscreenTSC menu, it should launch terminal services automatically).
Login to your server and get into the TSC viewer.
Once you're there, click on VJFullscreenTSC. This should bring up a menu.
Choose Fullscreen TSC and you should be in business. I hope.
Once you're in fullscreen, you don't have the time, so I've stuck time and power on the menu.
Close TSC will allow you to end your TSC session.
Exit exits VJFullscreenTSC.
Ok, that's all hopefully sensible.
Please give feedback. Like I said, scrollbar hiding and navigation stuff to come, this is just a test for you guys to start using. Bells and whistles later.
If you like this software consider making a paypal donation to continue development. http://www.vijay555.com/donate.html
I know it's got issues. Please test to destruction. A backup may be advisable but shouldn't be necessary.

Version Info:
v0.1: Intial test version (20 November 2005)
v0.2: Slightly new version fixing inaccessible SIP on WM2003
[Updated: 26 Nov - this version no longer required, see first post]
It occurred to me whilst I was sleeping that this might be a bit too fullscreen on WM2003. I was testing on the universal and magician, but I forgot that when I hide the SIP on the magician there's no keyboard.
I'll have to properly redisplay the SIP when required.
If you need to test it, I've knocked up a quick version that may fix the SIP issue, although it hasn't been fully tested because I had to come to work
get the exe here
V
If the above SIP fix version doesn't work for you, consider using my program SIPSwitch to load a sip from a shortcut/hardware key.
V
I like the idea, but had no success on testing... I see the titlebar text changing, but it doesn't show the blue dots
ei99070: as it says in the thread, if you lose the dots after loading the program, it means that the start bar has drawn over the dots. The dots are drawn top left corner, and they're just a stand in for now, they'll be replaced by something more useful later ("navipanel").
If you do lose them, you need to use a task manager like wisbar, magic button, small menu etc, to activate VJFullscreenTSC. This should bring the dots back topmost again.
If this still doesn't work and you're sure you've loaded VJFullscreenTSC, then temporarily exit wisbar etc. I'm not sure what task managers you guys use, but because of where the dots are positioned (over the startbar) various skinning processes could draw over it. As I said, the dots will be replaced later.
Post with any problems and I'll get them sorted. I use SmallMenu and that works well to reactivate it.
V
Here's a thought: on Win32 API we can make a window on top, can't you make the same with your app?
I didn't check the API on WM, so this is only a suggestion!
Best regards!
ei99070: a good thought, which is why it's what I do
However, the Start bar (particularly if skinned) can take precedence if it wants to.
As I said, I will replace the dots (I experimented by putting them under the start bar, but it's ugly), so once the beta has been tested ok, I'll work on changing the dots into something useful and not on top of the start bar!
I just needed somewhere that was discrete and wouldn't interfere with use of the client itself.
V
Great work, it works! Refreshing is much better than WM05 build in sw. These are my problems/questions:
1- on my JasJar and WM2005, even if I set sw for full screen I can't have it. Any solution?
2- When I try to access to my leading profile, it says there are restrictions. So I have to access with "Guest" profile. How can I solve this? (my pc is working with XP Prof. and WiFi router)
3- I have tried to open a MSWord file (office 2003), but it goes in error becouse of something missing. What could it be? Is there some upgrade I have to do in orther to use MSWord via terminal service?
THX a lot!
Ok guys, I'm back from Harry Potter. That was good stuff.
I've updated the program a tiny bit, extending the "dots" to slightly extend below the start button. Hence it shold not be able to be obscured.
asci: I don't quite understand - you know I'm not changing the terminal services, well just to patch it so that we can make it fullscreen. It shouldn't change refresh rate, but if it does, great!
However, it's only true function is to make the terminal services client fullscreen. Is it not doing this!?
I'm not sure I understand this about the leading profile. I suggest you try installing the concurrent user patch, which provides the useful feature of staying logged on as one user, and still using remote client on another user.
Question 3, re word: man, this is quite silly, but I've literally never used the terminal services client. I just made the hack, as we say in the UK, "for a laugh". Can't help you about what to do with it...

I think you are not seeing the whole picture here!! All this app does is make the terminal service client on WM2005 fullscreen! This is NOT a replacement app, but sort of an add-on!
Ok.. but maybe there could be a "console addon"

hehe, true, true...
new version out v0.2
Guys, I've released a slightly updated v0.2.
It corrects the oversight that WM2003 users lost the sip and couldn't enter any info.
Hopefully I'll get some work done on this next few days. I've had so little feedback though
FYI just checked out the xbox 360 launch on oxford st (I'm not a nerd, I just happened to be in the area. Seriously) Was a real damp squib. Literally. Raining... no screaming hordes. no one mugged on the streets. And only 6 policemen guarding
V
Hello VJ, I tryed your version, but I've seen a small quirk: If I ask to adapt the serveur desktop size to the pocket screen, I get a maximum size of 640x(480 minus top bar and SIP bar)
Do you have a way to hack the response about client screen size to give a 640x480 answer so we get full screen and no scrollbar?
TIA
thaihugo: the 640x480 screen size is a limitation of the terminal services client. I've had a preliminary look at tricking the client, and will investigate further, but this is not a limitation of my hack, so it's a question to throw out hopefully to the wider community.
As indicated in the first post, the scrollbar hiding option will come shortly.
v0.1 and 0.2 are just a test of the technique I used to make the client window fullscreen. GUI work and additional functionality will be added when I'm satisfied from feedback that the program generally works. In some 2,400 downloads I've had approximately 1 indication that it works, thanks to asci. And I'm not even sure he got it to work. So I'm not working further until I get a bit more verification.
I am aware that there is a black bar at the bottom of the expanded client window. Will be addressed in next release hopefully.
V
About feedback, I'm sure people will test it over time. I've actually tested it only today for the first time.
About the screen size, I now this is something comming from the video driver answering the request from the server. We might get it either from the screen size answer, or by tweaking the network packet beiing send. I don't know if somebody can go further.
okidoki, gave it a very quick test just by connecting to my local xp machine as ts and it worked "ok".
that big black bar at the bottom is frustrating
the start bar and start button is still off screen, thus defeating most of the full screen benefits
I still founf having scroll bars within scroll bars frustrating, which should go away if the whole thing was full screen, if its going to marginally fall short, smaller tsc bars would be better
by the way, I think its ridiculous that any software developer doesn't test their own software, surely you have some access to ts box or even an xp pro machine.
I have worked with sw developers, and ,y wife is one, and still believe that the public should not be yor ALPHA testers.
I will try again sometime during the week on my ts box at work, currently I cannot get jj to connect a vpn to the sbs at work AND continue to "hold" the connection while I run tsc over the vpn to our dedicated ts box. so will have to wait until I have15mins of free time at work (unlikely)
Thanks Simon.
I think you entirely missed the point of why I was asking for testing, and why I volunteer my own efforts for the benefits of the "public", being the XDA Dev community.
I myself work in a full time professional non-programming job, and developed this app in my spare time purely for the benefit of the community, since I don't use it at all. Since I have no need for the program, and as you have no time or need for it, please don't test further.
V
vijay - would you consider open sourcing your code? (not that I can code particually but others might like to contribute)
Nice work btw!
(Original post here.)
EDIT: The program has been updated from version 1.0.0.1 to version 1.01. Changes include:
-Keys now follow the screen orientation, even when rotated.
-OK + red phone key = toggle radio (ie, turn phone on and off)
-OK + C = toggle bluetooth
-OK + Enter key = toggle wifi
-Windows + * key = toggle keyboard backlight
-Windows + # key = turn off screen (does NOT put device to sleep! wifi will still be on, programs will still run, etc.)
*****************************
gudong over at PDAClan has just written a program that allows you to use the number pad on the 614 as a D-pad. It works like this: hold down the end call button for 1 second, and the red LED will light up to let you know it's working. When it's on, the number pad keys have the following functions:
1:Home 2: Up 3: Page up
4: Left 5: Enter 6: Right
7: End 8: Down 9: Page Down
0: Tab
To switch back, just hold down the end call key again.
Also, you can change the backlight by holding down the Windows key and a number:
win + 7: 1st level of screen brightness, with the keyboard backlight off. Good for using indoors in average lighting.
win + 8: 2nd level of screen brightness, also with keyboard backlight off. Good for bright rooms and outdoors.
win + 9: Brightest level (use when in direct sunlight)
win + 0: Lowest brightness level, keyboard backlight on. Good for dark rooms and nighttime.
Enjoy!
oh yeah! Nice application. I was trying to do something similar with Aebutton, but this is really great.
Found some bugs, softkeys are not working. Is it possible to fix it?
Really? My softkeys are working fine. You mean the physical softkey buttons, right?
Oh man, uninstalled aebutton and now all correct
Thanks for the application ))
wow thats really good!
but one small thing, how do you close it completely? I've pressed the end call button, but i am still able to change brighness with Win+7, 8, 9, 0 keys. But the D pad function does not work.
edit: Anyway to change the keys? Tried this on a simple menu, and it all works but my "C" cancel key does not exit the menu so there is no way to cancel using the buttons. Could the "tab" (0) key be made into a cancel button?
You don't really need any additional software if you only need up/down/left/right arrows, just swipe your finger from the center of the keypad to side (without pressing buttons, like you do with the wheel).

yes but what happens if you want to press left 10 times? with the above software you can press and hold "4" and it will do it, otherwise you'll need to do 10 swipes of the finger.
i find that when i do sms'es i often corrent mistakes like that, my finders to big to use the touch screen to put the cursor between two "i"s
also withthe software enabled you can use the "swipe" method as well as the "ring" plus the dpad options so now i use the ring to scoll to a selection then press the "5" button to make the selection instead of the akward return key.
great update!
having the option to turn BT/wifi/phone via hardware butted is great, i do have it already via touch screen buttons, but this saves me tapping the touch screen as often
Btw you need to post (not edit) that the files been updated (to bump this thread up) otherwise everyone will think theres no change and not both looking at the thread!
Thanks
Thanks. This is one of the most useful apps for the ipaq. It's the first one i install after hard reset. One idea - is it possible to make use of the other keys like the win and ok key and the softkeys. I'm not sure if it's possible but here it is: The softheys become delete and enter keys (like in old handsets) and we use the win, ok , C and ENTER keys on the keyboard. I'm not sure if it's a little too much , as this could mean modifying some of the dlls. Really - i don't know programming at all. Don't get me wrong I really like this program and realise that even having this is more than enough - use it very often and it's just great. It's just a suggestion, not a request. The purpose - maybe a half qwerty keyboard.
Great app
I have been looking for something similar for a long time!
Now I can run CoolCamera. Does anyone knows how to change video resolution to 640x480?
Lp Grga
Hello,
Can anybody help me with installing of this? I downloaded Zip file and there is only one .exe file in it. But i can not run that exe file corretly. Where is problem?
Thx
---------------------------
...\CZ612Key.exe
---------------------------
...\CZ612Key.exe is not a valid Win32 application.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
it's not a windows instller. It's the application itself. Just copy it in on your device in the folder /windows/startup and you're good to go.
Thx for hlp. I found that this soft working and i'm able to change brightnes but not able to activate Dpad with Red end call button.
If i hold it for 1s or longer i could not see any led flash and also not able to use Dpad.
I did not use any software for button mapping.
Any idea what is wrong?
I got the same problem above...
i just got the problem yesterday.. the day before the program works just fine.. i love it.. but suddenly i cannot activated the dpad using end button... my iPAQ is fully loaded.. but i don't using other keymapper..
i was thought that SPB keyboard is not compatible with the keymapper.. but after i uninstalled the spb the problems is still...
is there any way to activated the dpad rather than pressing the end button?
or other keymapper program that works like it?
thx
you need to run the program again if you reset your device.
I have mine to do a weekly backup at 2am Mondays So when i wake i have to run the dpad program to have it active for the rest of the week.
If you want the program to start every time you restart the device, I recommend copying the .exe to \Windows\Startup. That way it starts every time your device does.
Ah, life saver..
Now I can play space invaders without pulling out my BT keyboard.
this one is realy great but unfortunatly,
the -Windows + # key = does not really turn off the screen, it just shows a black screen

Just the battery issue now
Hello,
I'm following the beta's off the release from Mobillityflow Touch-Shell.
More info: http://www.touch-shell.com/beta
I'm testing this all on my HTC Kaiser (Tytn II) with WM 6.1.
It has a slide-out keyboard, so that explains the screenshots (portrait & landscape)
They release the one beta after the other but don't update what has been changed.
I posted in an other post a review how i thinked about the program with screenshots and they liked my review:
So i got a free copy!
Because off that i want to follow the beta's more. I started this new post so i can manage the first posts and it's easier to follow the updates for you guys.
For now there are my older reviews in the #2, #3 & #4 post, please tell me what i could test and what you want to see changed in the program (the developers will read it to!)
If there are enough people enjoying, giving feedback, etc. I'll update this post more and more.
It's a bit messy for now
Ow, don't forget to fill in the poll!
Tested on 2009-01-22 Version 0.0.2.28 beta
Today i tought again about this program and installed the new beta.
They don't say what the diffirent is, they just uploaded it.
2009-01-22 Version 0.0.2.28 beta:
Changes I notifced:
It corrected displayed now all the tabs when switching from portrait tot landscape (unlike in earlier versions, see post #22). I do this by sliding out my keyboard on my Kaiser.
BUT when removing to much tabs, it shows something off the last page (see what I marked red in screenshot 7 & 8)

- The music tab seems to function, i miss the buttons repeat and shuffle, but that's all. First time you press play or something else on the page it will load Windows Media Player.
- Everything seems to work smoother (switching to pages, clock animation, weather animation, etc...).
Touch Shell uses 3.3 MB memory on my Kaiser without Windows Media Player playing. With Windows Media Player it uses 3.5 MB
Everything was slowing down when playing music, but i noticed that Windows Media Playser used 33.6 MB (!), so i killed it and everything worked normal again.
I will test this more (I don't think this has anything to do with Touch-Shell).
Older beta test 1/2
1/2
I used many different Today Shells (spb, m2d, m3d, ultimatelaunch, touch-commander, etc.)
Touch-commander was great, but was to simple for me.
What I think is about Touch-Shell (tested it with M2d shutted down):
- It's a program, not a plugin.
- Nice lay-out on my Tytn II (320x240)
BUT when i turn it to landscape by sliding my keyboard out (240x320) sadly enough it doesn't re-allign.
Screenshots:
- The Weather page looks great, many chooses (accuweather & gismeteo) and great graphics.
--- Continued at next post (i may only post 4 images) ---
older beta test 2/2
2/2
- The launcher and contact page are both the same (you can add contacts and programs whatever you want). Disadvantage: one click call, so no link to the contact to choose call or sms, but 1 click calling.
- Music page is just a link to Windows Media player, nothing more!
I was playing music in the background, but you can't see it in the screenshot.
So I think (and hope) it's developing. Support for coreplayer, TCMP, etc.?
- The plugin page, is just 1 page where you can add plugins (hope there will come more support. Like plugins below the clock or something).
- The lowest "menu" where you can choose wich page you wanna go isn't as great as m2d but works fast.
- Choose to close pages you don't use (see plugin page, there i've left the close button)
- Choose the start page (after booting, wake-up)
- Much options if you compare it with m2d: Very short most off the options (hope it will be more)
-Load on Windows start
-Home page: 12/24 hours clock, blinking every 1-5 seconds on or off. Date format (dddd dd MMMM yyy for exapmle)
-Weather page: choose all the citys from AccuWeather or GisMeteo. Units. Connection, choose wich one to use, or default. Auto update interval, show or don't show connection status balloon.
-Plugins page: wich plugins and move them up and down
-Choose wich page is the start page and when to display it (device wakup, device idle for...)
-Switch page visual effect: Horizontal Slide, Page Turn, Rotation and choose a background color
I think it will be a great program, i've played a couple of hours with it.
It is to much beta to say anything really good or really bad about it.
Hope you enjoyed my review (feedback is welcome...)
You can ask questions, the program will stay a couple off days (15?) on my phone .
does it support square screen?
I have installed Touch Shell on my Wizard and is working fine. But it needs to be activated. Please let me know the activation key...

It should support it. Not sure about it.
If you could test it and report it in this threat it will be great
Omnia (WVGA) is not supported as i readed it from 2 "testers".

man you're on the wrong site...
works with vga?
I´ve copied some post from the original post:
BUT, that was before the newer betas come out.
Before it doesn't reallign on my Kaiser (from portrait to landscape), now it does. That does mean that the application probaly is "streched" to the screen where it was before just 240x320 and nothing else.
The best thing you could do is test, make screenshots and post it back here
Answer is short: probaly it does, not sure, test it yourself please.

Anyone tried Touch-Shell on a Palm Treo pro?
It doesn't fill out the 320x320 screen, keeps you from locking the screen unless you exit T-S.
Any fixes out here for these issues?

Touch Shell does not work on VGA devices which is a let down for me. Or at least it's not working on my Fuze... I did however test it out on my wifes Tilt and it only seemed to be a glorified Touch Commander.
I was highly looking forward to this so I hope future versions become more robust like TF3D. I know it's early beta so I still have high hopes.

thank you
i'm waiting for a new release
Touch-Shell v0.0.2.46 is out still not fix the animate weather on HTC Touch and little slow on respond.
I was a big fan of Touch Commander and made many skins for it. Now since getting a Fuze and having TF3D, Touch Shell seems too far behind and is no comparison. It may have taken too long to get Touch Shell going and people might have moved on. (Just my opinion with no facts to back it up)
With the popularity of the Touch Pro / Fuze / Diamond / Touch HD, all with TF3D included, can TS compete? I'll still support them and will most likely purchase when there is a full VGA release and crank out some skins..

VGA has been supported for weeks now ( not sure about official though). I used it on my Diamond but it's still not quite up to speed and is still a little buggy so I again uninstalled it.
Also, TS CAN compete in one way to TF3D. I offers something that TF3D does not: a complete Today Plugin tab within the shell that exactly mimics the traditional Today screen. That one feature sets it apart from any other shell I've used.

Yes, it is .
But You should to replace original "Skin_landscape.xml" with modiffied by me.
On my i780 works fine.
i know there is a perfectly good topic here for recommended apps, but I wanted to make a list with screenshots and include apps that you buy as well as freeware
1) SPB Mobileshell with MobileSense
{

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
The interface of SPB Mobile Shell along with the beauty of Mobilesense really makes my phone an impressive and elegant sight. With these two packages, the ease of use bests the iphone and rivals android (we're not even going to mention Titanium).
2) SMS-Chat
The best chatting problem I’ve found - it makes it really easy to follow your txts as an actual conversation. The only downside is it takes a few seconds to start up - but the design and ease of use makes up for that many times over.
3) Comic Reader Mobi
I wasn't sold on Comic Reader. I used the 0.8 release, but it wasn't until I actually tried v2 on my phone that I realized how well the software worked to read comics. Possibly the best program on any platform - once you customize it to best suit your reading habits you won't understand how you coped without it. The only downsides are that it doesn't support gif images and the interface is a bit confusing to start with. I love the zip support and lens feature.
4) Mobipocket
Beating ubook, Reader and anything else I’ve found on the iplatform hands down, mobipocket is the best way I’ve found to read books. The library sucks, so use your file explorer to navigate your collection, but in terms of ease of use, rendering quality, selection of fonts and features you can't go past Mobipocket. It's free software and reads html, mobi, pdb or txt format.
You can get free ebooks here here or here (click CD Listing). If you know how to use mIRC, then check out this page for step by step instructions on finding awesome free ebook channels.
5) TCPMP
Better then any free or paid alternatives I've found for video playback - TCMP is THE Media Player Classic of phones. Easy to use, easy options to change, skin support, easy controls and codec support you can't go past it.
6)S2P - Slide 2 Play
Slide to play is a really awesome music app which integrates with S2U so you can control your music while your phone is locked. I really love the "exit on headphone disconnect" and "start on headphone connect" options.
7) Resco File Explorer
A great improvement on the included file explorer, this one lets you move and copy files, uncompress and compress with ease. As well as that, the interface is much better for thumb control.
8) S2U2 - Slide to Unlock
This is easily the most essential little app I've ever installed. Previously my phone was always calling people in my pocket and doing random stuff. Now, I never need to worry about that again! The lock controls provided by Windows mobile are inconsistent, unreliable and woefully inadequate.
UPDATE 7/07/10
9) SenseTasks
I never used the tasks app in Wimo, too tiny to use with my finger, too annoying to use with a stylus - I have always been wanting a finger orientated task app which will let me tap stuff completed and quickly and easily keep track of what I have to do. This app does it all.
10) Actionscreen
A quick pop up menu from holding down the power button which gives you access to handy toggles and shortcuts. Saves you exiting or minimizing a program to use something.
Pocket GBA
Plays gameboy advance and original roms. Worked perfectly on the Mogul (just the right amount of hardware buttons) but on the touch pro2 there aren't enough buttons to play. Working on finding an alternative method.
Project Android - Eclair
A working port of android on your phone. There is a tiny bit of slow down compared to WiMo, but it's definately enough to get a taste of the OS and let you form an impresson of Android. I'm not too sure if you'd want to run this permenently, but almost everything is working including wifi and the phone function, so it's a great representation. You can even download and install apps from the marketplace.
GWatch
Great to have on your phone, just incase you ever need a stopwatch or countdown timer
Rhodium Keyboard Controller
Essential for any Touch Pro2, this app lets your remap most of the limited butons avaliable on the TP2 as well as assigning multible actions for double, triple and long presses!
----
LOCKSCREENS:
S2U2 - Slide to Unlock
+Free
+Works really well, have never ever had any problems
-can lock a bit too frequently
-when security locked have to slide to unlock and then enter your pin
-doesn't show your today screen
PocketShield
+looks amazing (i haven't used it)
+lots of different skins, can show today screen
- slide to unlock + enter pin if pin enabled
- paid app
Throttlelock
+Shows today screen
+secure to unclock, no seperate number pad, based just on combination
-a little bit buggy, doesn't always lock, sometimes unresponsive for a split second.
----
UPDATE 8/07/10
Browsers:
SKYFIRE
-doesn't work for anyone outside america
OPERA 9
+great page rendering and controls
-very slow
-youtube is broken on my copy
OPERA 5
+fast
-not as full featured as 9
IE
+youtube works
UZARD
+full featured
+youtubr works
-no minimize
-can't zoom all the way out
----
Stuff I'd tried and it hasn't worked for me:
TaskFascade (wouldn't start from action button, crashed a few times, won't pop to the main windows when I click on the shortcut)
└(^o^)┘
the 5th should be TCPMP (╯3╰)
all apps you recommend are really nice!
thanks for the correction! Have updated.
Thanks for the review, I really enjoyed reading it!
bump. Have added in a few more apps.
This is a great thread, and very informative. Thanks for taking the time to do this so us newbs can see the good stuff that's out there for our TP2 phones!
good list of apps!
Thanks
I've spent the last 2 days downloading tons of different apps, on my next days off I will try and write up more of my favorites with screenshots.

1 more suggestion:

yep, quite unusual .... I think landscape mode makes a lot of sense for an automation app, because you can see the whole scheme at one glance and the left to right flow feels more natural (at least for left to right reading people) .... the app could handle portrait mode as well, but after some UI tests I decided to make landscape the only mode ... theoretically I could change that with a few lines of code .... so, if the majority of users want a portrait mode, you will get it .. perhaps i should start a poll .... or everybody could give some feedback here
... let´s say additional portrait 1 : landscape 0

The solution is simple. Just display the selected triggers on top of the action screen and thats it. Just my feedback

I appreciate your feedback very much :good:
As mentioned, I played around with the UI a lot. I have just installed an old prototype with portrait still enabled (but nothing optimized) and took some screenshots . It looks ok when you have several events and activities ... but a little bit weird for simple schemes .... ok, I think I could optimize it a bit, but personally I definitively prefer the landscape mode ....
However, if users prefer portrait mode I could add it ....

As a ui/ux designer without a job i have time to ***** around and tell people how it should be
And you would come to the same conclusion sooner or later believe me

Great job. Love the fact that it doesn't run a background service. Agreed, landscape makes the most sense.

Yep, landscape is definitively my favorite ....But we seem to be in the minority ... so I will enable portrait via the next update .... so everybody could use it in their favorite mode
Is it possible to change Preferred Network Type or APN with this app? If not, is it something that can potentially be added in a future release or are apps in general not capable of doing this?

Very good Question
There is no official API for this available, but in the past you could hack around similar restrictions with reflection, root and other workarounds (and I still do it for some features like the airplane mode). If I remember it right, you could toogle the preferedNetworkType via an app on older Android versions. I never implemented this feature within my other app ReTag (first release for Android 2.3) , because it never was stable ...it worked on some devices and android version but didn´t work on others ....With each Android version Google implements new restrictions, so it´s getting harder and harder for apps accessing basic functions. From my point of view the problem is the broken and static permission system on android. It´s broken since day 1 and instead of fixing it or implementing something completely new, Google tries to block everything "security" related .... The solution would be simple: provide official API and a stable permission system that enables the user to decide if an app should be able to access this API (on runtime, not before installation) .... just my 2 cents ....
Bottom line: No, afaik it´s not possible to reliable change the PreferedNetworkType or APN via a 3rd party app on newer android versions.
Update 0.8.6
update 0.8.6 just uploaded to Google Play ... could take some time until it´s available
What´s new:
- MOBILE DATA toggle for Android 5.+ Lollipop --> that was a b**'*h !!! --> latest Expert Plugin + latest SuperSu required!
- Aauuto shortcuts --> you can put serveral shortcuts within a folder on your homescreen

Any feedback for the new Lollipop Mobile Data toggle ???
Google blocks the mobile data toggle in Lollipop and I had to use some new workarounds to hack around this .... I wonder if you found any issues :fingers-crossed:
Hmm ,
not much feedback so far, everything seems stable ... a few small issues and only 2 error reports ... I think, I could release the 1.0 version end of January .... so, please report your issues and feature requests till the end of next week and I could probably implement/ solve them for the official (non-beta) 1.0 release ....
btw. nobody so far mentioned the colors .... I like them, but I expected some uproar ....so, last chance before 1.0 ;-P
I've been playing around with it for a bit and so far I like it :good: I'll report back if I find anything.
Update 0.9.1
Update 0.9.1 (still beta ) just released to google play
This is a extremely tricky update:
2G/3G/LTE :
-Support for 2G/3G/LTE toggle --> Root Required! ... works without issues on my testing devices, but sim related things are always tricky, so you can find it within the Labs section
Plugin API:
-Experimental support for external setting/activity plugins (Locale/Tasker compatible) --> Extremely cool and tricky ---> just use Locale/ Tasker compatible setting plugins with Aauuto ...
The API isn´t public and I would do a lot of things different, but using standard automation plugins makes a lot of sense .... I had to guess a lot of things within this API, so probably not all plugins are working .... especially older and not longer maintained plugins may not work .... tested some plugins and most of them work ....
Feedback which plugin works/ doesn´t work is very welcome ! (Seems that some plugins block other apps than Tasker/Locale ... )
Bugfix update 0.9.1.2 just uploaded to Google Play ....
Should fix a lot of external plugin issues ... found some sort of "legacy mode" .... Greenify and Pushbullet should work now .... also a bunch of other plugins ....in fact, every plugin I tested seems to work now ...
Feedback (plugin working/not working ) highly appreciated .... also some 2G/3G/LTE toggle feedback would be nice
