Looks good - Another T-Mobile page still shows the Vario with Co-Pilot on this tariff at £119.99
Yeah , it is under "special offers" - look under the "300 mins for £14.50 for 12 months" deals
Thanks joker3001 ! just ordered one
Was looking for a reason to buy a Wizard anyway (or at least something to justify it to the wife  ) and the Sat Nav does just that !
Soon , the battle between the Universal & the Wizard will commence - pending a T-moble credit check of course
Cheers dude
Is this phone any different from the SX56?
I just installed the XDA ROM software into my SX56 and unlocked the AT&T phone which now accepts TMobile (the phone accepts my SIM card and TMobile made a call to me which came in). I am paying $19.95 a month and have had the service for about eight years
The problem I am having is that my phone screen now doesnt respond properly: Touching it causes the backlight to go on but most of the keys dont do what one would expect them to do: The phone turns on with a reminder from the calendar on the screen which wont DISMISS or CLOSE. Pressing on the windows logo and then on the phone key causes the calendar to come up and I am not sure which numbers are entered when I do manage to get the phone to come onto the screen (none of the right hand numbers seem to work at all). Does anyone recognise these symptoms and/or could they just show that my SX56 needs the ROM RE-flashing? I should add that pressing the Master Reset button with this ROM in place seems to make the phone shut off and then when you restart it, all of the data remains in place. I wonder if there is any possibility that the XDA ROM has prevented the reset button from working normally?
But then I saw this ad: The SDA site implies that all these phones are the same under the skin although an article written in 2002 http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/tmobile-pocketpc.pdf implies that the manufacturer was coming out with some different processor at that stage and that the processor in the Wallaby was then already obsolete: Does anyone know if this phone represents any advance on the SX56 or is it newer or is my phone exactly the same as this one or is my SX56 actually better? (I already have the COPILOT software independently). Or is it just the same walllaby in a different casing which TMobile are tyring to get rid of because the manufacturer is as uncooperative iwth them as they are with anyone else?
Anybody had any luck with this?
I just called T-Mobile sales to ask what was included with the Copilot kit and was told that they are not honouring this offer due to a mistake. Worth a try anyway?
Mistake, but IS this phone any different from the SX56?
What the mistake was may be relevant: I just called them and they said they WERE although they had at first said that the CoPilot was extra and wasnt included with the price. I didnt take it any further as I couldn't figure out whether the phone they are offering is any different to the one I already have

Sounds like the digitiser is up the swanee - have you tried recalibrating it?

It's a completely different phone. The Vario is an HTC Wizard with T-Mobile branding. There's plenty of info on this site on the differences between models.

Never heard of Google, or even http://wiki.xda-developers.com/?
Pricing mistake
The sales chap I spoke to said that the free Copilot offer only applies to other phones - it should cost £120 with the Vario. However, he said he works for direct sales, not the web sales team, so advised me to give it a go anyway, which I have done. It's before the 7.30pm cutoff for next day delivery, so I'll give you an update tomorrow...

Their "mistake" excuse is weak - if it is, why haven't they taken the page down?
It clearly states on that page Vario with co pilot. Whats the problem ? Get it bought
Re: Is this phone any different from the SX56?
"Sounds like the digitiser is up the swanee - have you tried recalibrating it?"
Not sure how to reclalibrate it but the problem appears to be that I dropped it and 10-12 vertical black lines started appearing to the right hand edge of the screen. Sometimes they are there, sometimes not. THere is usually at last one there somewhere. At about that time the screen stopped responding as I mention. Today the left third started displaying the same veritcal lines, though spaced quite far apart (about a millimetre). Screen doesn't APPEAR cracked: Does this sound like a digitiser and if so, how do you recalibrate it please or is there a link to somewhere on the XDA site which I cant find which might tell me? Or could it be the cable loose in the circuit board? As you touch the lower right hand corner of the metal casing where the vertical lines are, those lines flash (the right 10 or 12) on and off and every coloured bar everywhere on the screen or word of text has vertical lines on it even if the white parts don't??
(BTW FWIW I am in New York and couldn't take advantage of the .co.uk offer but was just wondering how they could give the unit away so cheap unless it was essentially the same as the 2002 units which are described on the XDA site)
Success! (I think)
Just checked my email on arriving home and my order has been confirmed by T-Mobile so it should be with me tomorrow. Still odd that they show it at £120 on one page and free on another, but I'm not complaining!
Re: Is this phone any different from the SX56?
@licensedtoquill - to me it sounds like you've dislodged the connections to the screen. Youcould try taking the thing apart and reseating it, but it's a delicate job and not for someone who's not used to dealing with miniature electronics. Might be work looking for a repair facility - PPC Techs have a good reputation.
As for why the phones are so cheap over here, the network operators will do anything to get you signed up to a contract, as that's where they make their money. It's easy to get a free top line phone if you chose the right contract. Especially one like this which locks you in for 18 months as opposed to the normal 12. They're banking on the fact that even with the 300 free voice minutes, you'll still ramp up the bill with SMS and GPRS over the life of the contract. That's why they put the unlimited half price rental "loyalty" bonus at the end to make sure you stick out the full term.
Mine is confirmed too - should be here before one tomorrow
The Guy on the phone (had to phone to confirm some details) said the deal was so good that they (the web sales team) were all snapping them up too , and that the deal was subject to stock , and that stock of the copilot kits would probably be exhausted by the end of today
No mention of a mistake at all
@zoidster: what time did you order yours? I needed one and did not have the time to order w/o co-pilot earlier in the day and this looked too good to be true. I got confirmation around 9:30PM UK and hope the stock is not finished yet.
It was about 4.30pm mate - mind you , in "sales speak" a few left probably means several thousand
If your order was confirmed & they charged you the £5.99 for next day delivery then I'd guess they had stock left
Thanks, I got confirmation and should be with me tommorrow.
Thanks for the link, saved me 50 quid.
Got mine !
yesterday , I managed to navigate to the deal via the homepage
tried again this morning and the same deal is now £199 !
Does this package come with a gps receiver as well??
hello.
i've left my wizzard on damp kitchentable for about half of an hour. when i've returned it was wet, still working but the camera light (flash/torch) was on and so it is now. there's probably water still there, but i ain't got idea how to fix it. please help ! thanx
sounds like you have short circuited something, try taking it apart and put it in a bowl of rice and leave for a few hours (use a sealable container and shake it up)or if you dont want to take it apart just take the bit that covers the camera off (it just clips off, so no unsrewing) refer to the service manual found on this forum somewhere. the rice should dry out and moisture still inside the phone. if that doesnt work i dont know ur buggerd
Hum... never heard about rice absorving capabilities!
guide
i hope i'll open it safely
and another thing is that i moved from uk and i want to get rid of this O2 crap from my phone coz it affects working in my home network. what i have to do?
go to start -> programs -> Install type. if you open up that program you should have 2 options, basic and corporate, choose corporate and enter the password : 0506. this should get rid of all the o2 rubbish and you should still have everthing
has the "magical" rice worked?
i haven't opened it yet coz of lack of tools but i thought that instead of rice one may use those small silicon balls which are in every box of shoes.
dean: thx 4 solution, the o2 crap is gone now, but still before windows starting o2 logo apearing, and there's another strange thing whitch i don't understand: on start bar where u got those tiny icons like phone signal strenght, battery life indicator etc. there is a triangle - is that stands for roaming ?? If yes - why, if no, what does it means, coz i don't have it described in phone's manual.
cheers !
I don't really know anything about that little triangle, it seemed to of popped up when I went abroad to spain so I guess it must have something to do with you being out of the UK? Also there will always be the o2 screen at startup because it is the o2 ROM that is being used but I don't think it will affect the device, if you desperatly needed to get rid of it then you should look around on the forums on how to upgrade but I don't recommend it
P.S: tools to take apart can be easy to find in a local DIY store (i think the screwdriver is a torx 5 or 6 I don't know just look on the web) I just robbed all mine from school
let me know how you get on with the flash problem
I am currently trying to sell my HTC Shift...
It is a 3g/SimCard model and not an HSPDA....
It is basically mint condition and has never been taken off my computer desk...
It will come with all boxes and manuals and all included accessories...
The only problem with this Shift is I don't know how to fix the audio, I have been trying for months now to no avail...I know for a fact this is a technical problem; but I simply lack the skill to resolve it.
Snapvue remains completely black, even after trying to flash various versions of the firmware...I am likely to be doing it wrong...
I can test anything you would like before you buy it to make sure it is what you want.
I am selling for the low price of $900...I will even include a shoulder bag that fits the shift perfectly...
Thanks,
Please post any questions...
My email is [email protected]
my ebay account is: joejohn799
If you would feel more secure I could post a private auction in ebay for you, otherwise you could send me payment via paypal...I have great feedback and there would be no need to worry...
Problem solving for audio
In my experience, i do have problem with audio, and i solve it NOT by reformat vista nor winmo side
Its because the 3.5mm audio jack wont take it off the connection from earphone to speakerphone,
My solutions, i put the earphone back to audio jack, but this time i push a litlle bit hard to the left and right while i rotate the cable back and forth, and i unplug it, try this method for couple of time untill it works
For winmo side, have you do something with the rom, such as hardspl or cook without hardspl, but when i see your thread that you are not very experience, i asume that you do nothing with the rom, if you do, then the solutions is simple, just try to hard reset the snapvue side
Hope this help
Well,
I would really interested in being able to fix it, but I just can't...
and really, the truth is, that I am normally a pretty technical person and stuff like this usuallly doesnt stump me...but theres really nothing I can do...
when i try to hard reset I get no USB option just a com2 option...
when i try to flash firmware i either get (error:260) or I get a large box filled with a bunch of code or text...
If anyone thinks they can help, for reference here is two threads I posted before:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410896
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424735
They include details of my problems and what I have done....
Lowering price to 750, buyer pays for shipping anywhere in the world....
So cheap, please--and I know it can be fixed, and I know it is under warranty--its just the simple issue that I can't lose it for that long as it is my only computer...
Just as the thread title says.
I'm disatisfied with my Tattoo, it has already been to service 2 times. The motherboard was changed the second time, so it should be like a new phone. I still don't like it though, so I want you help to know what to do with it. In Sweden, (at least at Elgiganten, the shop where I bought it from) you'll get you money back the 3rd time it goes to service. My thought is bricking it, but I wonder if they'll go suspicious since the motherboard was changed the last time. I'll also need to come up with some kind of solid lie.
So, what should I do?
You could peel part of the plastic off the VOL DOWN button, under the cover, so the button won't work any more. I don't know if it's bad enough to get a full refund, but it's the only thing I can think of that won't make them too suspicious.
=) I wish I could do that... The Tattoo sucks -.- Bad.
Hmm, any other suggestions?
Maybe I should root it, then telnet and delete some camera dependent files. Then I'll just tell them the camera has stopped working
So this is probably my worst case scenario and I'm depressed to no end, I literally got this phone 3 days ago and cut my micro Sim down to size going by guides and templates found on Google since my last phone got cracked an wasted the digitizer, I couldn't wait for my new Sim to get delivered.. (I'm sure everyone could understand)
Well, it worked great, fit about as good as I could expect for doing it without a cutter, BUT, today my new Sim came and I tried ejecting the tray and bam! It's jammed... (insert internal screaming here) looked up how to unjam it and I got it after a few minutes and I thought all was good, however the Sim that came out was dented on the contact side, and putting the new one in, or the old one back in, neither are recognized now.... Why it jammed in the first place is beyond me, maybe it was defected? Idk.
I'm so frustrated with myself that I could lock myself in a closest and I have no idea what to do, I never screw up my phones like this. I've contacted support but I was hoping someone here would have any ideas on how I might get it to work at least for a short time, or anything.
I really love this phone it's the first "high end" phone I've even owned :crying: thanks in advance for any opinions and ideas...
Sounds like you broke one or more sim contact pins. This is a common issue on poorly cut sims and adapters. If this is the case, then your options are limited. You may be able to find someone who might be able to repair the damage. Otherwise you might be looking at the need for a new board.
