Can someone show me step by step .. how to export registry settings.. - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

How do I export the registry settings for a today plugin or software like weather panel.. rlcalendar..
Hkey_current_user/software/marsware/weather panel...
Hkey_current_user/software/RLcalendar...
i want to save my setting so that next time i flash my phone.. i can just import the settings and wouldn't have to set it up maunally..
I tried exporting with PHM regedit.. by click and holding on "RLcalendar" Folder in the registry tree.. but when I tried to import it to test.. it says "the specified file is not a registry script"
thanks

LOL! Same thing from the chat ! Try using a free desktop reg editor to export.

lol.. gotta get my info somewhow!..
i dont understand what you mean.. a DESKTOP editor?
i have to use my PC to do this?

You don't have to if the PHM wasn't working for you. I'm not sure of which are free, but if you used a desktop one, you could open the registry and export the keys you wanted.
Oh! Just remembered, someone posted som development thread and said to use this one:
WindowsCE Registry Editor
http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/
Someone from the PPCGeeks had a thread on this, I think it was named "Lazy Man's Way", anyways, you can export with this, then make the .rgu file, or OEMizer for building.

please use the QUESTIONS thread next time.

Automate my registry changes

I always have to manually regedit several entries every time I rebuild my phone (which is quite often) and am curious on how to automate this. With my PC I simply export the key, modify it if I'm actually deleting the key, and create a batch file with a regedit /s command. Can anyone direct me in this on the pocket PC?
TIA !

Howdy Steven - have you tried Resco Registry? From a quick peek I can see that it can import/export keys...might be just what you are looking for.
Two options:
1. Invest in Tweaks2k which will make setting a bit easier to apply.
2. Install a cab file. The catch here is that you are relying on someone else to accumulate and make the settings for you.
Here is a sample .cab file (a list of the changes are provided).

Steven,
if you tell me what registry entries you need (or if you can export them with a registry editor) then i'll build a cab file which can install the registry edits and all you need to do is reset the device after the cab installs.
by reset you'll need to do the power off reset not the soft reset pin hole...
PHM reg editor has a backup and restore. U could use this and its free

This is what I'm looking for, building a cab file. However I would like to be taught how to fish rather than being given a fish. Where can I find some instructions regarding this?
Thanks!
Steven
Well I was recently taught how to do this using an application called WinCE CAB Manager.....the license fee is expensive which is why I offered to do it for you....

The sample cab file you referenced is a start, thanks! I'm not a programmer but I can write a wicked Dos batch file so this is where I want to start I believe. 'long as I don't have to talk my wife into writing some C code or such I'm cewl.

I see that! $150 is quite expensive. I'm most appreciative of your offer. I really do want to learn to do this on my own though.
Thanks!

Merging registry?

I have PHM reg editor installed, but all I can do with it is restore a registry. What I want to do is merge a registry so the registry setting that are missing(not really sure which ones are) are added back and such. How can I do this? Thanks
anyone know? Please?
I'd try something like dotfred task manager for this...
http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm
You can export that registry setting using PHM reg editor, copy to your pc and merge it into any.reg.

I think (although I'm not absolutely certain) that the op wants to import some registry settings, which (AFAIK) cannot be done easily with PHM RegEdit
Yes, I want to import reg settings(with out deleting the current ones on there) and PHM does not let me.

dotfred task manager has a registry import function. I'd backup before just to be safe though!
I tried it but it gave me an error and the missing registry files were not actually imported.
What are you trying to install, what registry settings?
If I knew what exact reg setting it was, I would have done it manually. I am trying to get back my predictive texting I lost after installing and uninstalling the Diamond keyboard. So I did a back of my device, did hard reset, then used PHM reg to save the whole default registry. I proceed installed the back up of my registy and then tried to merge the registry with the software mentioned and here we are now.
You need to find out which parts of the registries you want to merge. There simply isn't any piece of software with the intelligence to do that for you.
If you have both your default registry and your own custom registry in .reg format, put them on your PC and use UltraEdit or any similar editor with compare/diff functionality to spot the differences. Judge for yourself which of these are the ones you need. Put only these lines in a new .reg file with the correct header. Copy that to your device, run it, ready for test.
I believe all devices here use unicode, so don't use a .txt based editor.
well I think it maybe the whole hkey local machine I may have to merge or at least everything that does not have to do with installed apps and software.

PHM RegEdit

Looks like a nice application. However I cannot find an option to export a registry key into the .reg file. In the Tools menu I can only see Import, Backup and Restore options, plus Exit. I have MDA Compact IV which is actually supposed to be identical with HTC Diamond.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Narciso
PHM RegEdit doesn't support exportation.
An other nive regedit freeware (which support import/export) : Tascal Registry Editor

Thanks a lot, man. Wonderful application indeed. Got it and tested successfully. It does exactly what I want!
However, contrary to PHM RegEdit it does not support Find option, so it is good to have them both installed, I guess.
Thanks so much again!!!

PHM Export
If you 'tap-n-hold' on a registry setting, it pops up a dialog box which contains "Export..." option - what about that?
cheers

edit registry "how to" ?????

there are a few little registry edits I would like to make, but first I need to get to it/find it. Most post I have read basically say "just edit the registry," would love to but I have no idea how. Is there a How-to, that can spell it out in cave man drawings and crayon??
thank you much

Hi
You need a registry editor, you can search for it. If you have dotfred's task manager installed http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm, it has also a registry editor. It works basically like a file explorer, remember to backup before changing using function export and import. If something goes wrong hard reset will sometimes be the only solution

HTC HD 2 Registry

Anybody know how to access HTC HD2 registry?
I'm quite confused abt getting it done.
Use a registry editor and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Loader\LoadModuleLow
create new DWORD entry named ffmpeg.plg
assign to it value 1.
I dun quite understand how u do e registry editor on e phone? I can't seem to find.
You need a registry editor like e.g. Total Commander. I myself use Mobile Registry Editor, which you can use from your PC.
http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-and-Shell/Windows/Mobile-Registry-Editor-10636.shtml
So that means after downloading the mobile registry editor I juz need to plug in my phone and make the necessary changes as in the instruction given?
Yep. Download it and you'll see how it works. It's pretty easy.
But always be careful when editing the registry, I'd suggest you write down the original values.

Thanks Bro. Appreciate your help.
I juz tried and it say access denied
You could try again. I get this error from time to time, but the next time I tried it did work.
Otherwise you could try Total Commander or RegEdit or any of the other registry editors that are available. They work from your phone. Don't know exactly which ones are free. Search this forum and Google and you will find.

Does it show all the directory or it will only show certain directory only?
Cause i'm not able to find HKLM\Software\Opera\Info
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/phmregistryeditor.shtml
The one I use and I have never had any problems with it. Plus, you don`t need a PC in order to use it.
Is there a more friendly Finger registry editor than PHM Registry Editor v0.70
