I am thinking of getting a T-mobile Shadow for my wife, and am wondering if the standard T-mobile ROM will allow the use of custom ringtones.
I don't really want to change the ROM, since it'll void the warranty.
Yup, just upload them to the My Ringtones folder. You can get some nice ones at http://cellsea.com
I always use Myxer.com. This is with the internet package tho

I grabbed the wizard cab for Cingular and it got me going, but it's still not right. Plus, I'd like to flash this thing such that the cingular option is in the 'hard reset startup' screen ... you know, then one that lets you choose your carrier.
Any kind soul have this done already? If not, any newbie guides for how to dump the rom, unlock it, mod it, and put it back?
I've been a pocket pc guy since the beginning of time, but this is the first non-network device I've bought.
thanks in advance!
I'm not sure you can "cingularize" it. What you've already done is about it, other than custom settings to setup mms maybe if it isn't already. I don't think you'll see it in the startup since it's not designed for the us. It's really better this way though isn't it? No need to "overbrand" it Usually Cingular adds too much junk on their phones anyways.
So the carrier thing really only sets up the mms, wap and gprs stuff as well as branding and carrier-centric apps? nothing to frequencies or PRLs? If that's it then who cares?!
thanks!
Yes, exactly. The nice thing about the cab files is that it saves you having to type in all the settings. From there though you are on your own. There is a registry edit that will display the E versus G if you're in Edge coverage, stuff like that you can do which would probably be on a cingular branded phone, but it's nice not having any restrictions either that cingular would place on it.
Question is this. I changed my theme to a standard blue theme from the today settings but i cant get it back to the standard black theme that was in effect when i installed the touchflo rom.. anyone know how to get back to the black theme??
Also....after installing the touchflo rom i noticed that i was missing a couple applications. One in particular is Tzones. I have a hotspot service and cant log on because i dont have the login screen.. anyway i can get this back to my phone? the IM client was also lost but i found this...
any help would be greatly appreciated!
Mike
Which touchflo rom did you download? If you got the one for the wing, go into Start>Settings>Today>T-Mobile_Default_Blue should be the OEM theme. Hope that helps a little.
Well initially the phone was apparently set to the Mobile_Default_Blue but was a black theme. When i switched it and went back to it then it was blue. I really liked the black theme and want to switch back but i havent a clue how to do so....i've been searching. Help is greatly appreciated.
I'm running the PDAVIET v14 rom.....Being as this is not a tmobile rom the myfavs are not on it. Its not a huge deal, as a matter of fact i dont even really care. But i wouldnt mind getting the tzones back until my total internet package takes effect on the 23. any suggestions anybody?
In that same Today settings tag you should be able to select which items to show up on the today screen, and there should be an option for T-zones there. Or you could flash a different rom onto your wing that supports T-zones if you can't find it there.

I have the PDAVIET .14 ROM and MyFaves are, in fact, in it. You just need to use a tool like Memaid 2.0 to find the link and add it to your start menu or the Home Page. That's what I did, and it's working fine.
TZones should also in the ROM, and can probably be added in the same way.
Well....i'll keep looking into the Tzones issue. It is nowhere on my phone. I really do like the touchflo rom and the cube feature so i dont neccessarily want to switch roms. I wouldnt mind having it back on the phone as i get ringtones and such from there (thats pretty much it) Is there away to put it back on the phone without having to find another rom?? Or is there a better way to get ringtones?
As for the myfaves, thats not a huge concern either...i'm sure that even if you dont have the myfaves selection on the phone you can still use the service..you just have to manage them on mytmobile.

So I not really familiar with the app Memaid 2.0. how exactly would i go about finding these apps with that program. I dont mind installing it and trying to find it but i wouldnt know where to start. And is there any other program that does the same thing...i mean, i dont truly feel like paying 20 bucks for it, anywhere else i can get it from?
Ok, download and run the Wing Touch it ROM from Tyer's thread. It will still run and operate like the touch, but have all the same features of the Wing RUU, like Myfaves, T-zones, IM clients, etc...
I appreciate all of your help.....like i said the myfavs and tzones are not a hell of a big deal but i guess they are sorta convenient. So the Touch it rom VERSUS the touchflo rom is pretty much identical with the exception Touchit was made with the standart apps from tmobile? I truly like the cube feature and dont want to loose it...if they're the same except for the preloaded apps, i would do it....so this is the case??
Again, you guys have been very helpful, thanks a bunch!
For the black bars, under extra, (within programs) there should be a "glossy black bars" icon. Click on it.
Ur probably talking about Glossy Black Bars
go to ur programs, it should be there, just click it n it'll change
Just Wondering
I was just wondering if any1 has devised a way to use a portion of your sd memory as ram some how?? or is this a stupid question??
its an interesting idea, but SD is too slow to use for RAM
Hi I have just recieved my phone back from telstra from repair the vibe stopped working...
While they had it they placed the latest rom on it... with all the updates built in...
Before I sent it away I had duties on it... but put telstra rom on for warrenty..
now that I have it back I decided to use it for a couple of days to make sure everything was good...
and find that again I'm faced with weather I really wish to put a cooked rom on my phone?
while useing duties I was very happy with it but I missed someof the things built in the telstra rom.
so is the a way of extracting things from one rom and putting them into another like mixing the telstra rom with stuff from duties..
or vise versa?
and how to I go about it? or could someone help me with it... I'm sure that there would be a bunch of telstra customers that would like to keep parts of their rom yet include parts of others...
I guess first I nned to get my current rom off my phone and onto hard disk.. so... bettter go look for how!!
As I understand it, I don't believe you can extract stuff(apps) out of the rom while its loaded onto your device. It needs to be had as a file on a pc before you(the chef) can start pulling it apart & mod for a custom rom. I also think that the custom roms the chefs build are using the official ones provided by HTC or TELSTRA themselves
Anyways if anyone out there does know, I'd like the MyAccount app so I can check my data usage through telstra
Well I have it as a file so I can pull it apart as soon as I can work out how to do it...
I just want to get rid of the bloat ware.
not all things are used by me...
then there are things in other roms that I really like to have..
I also don't really like the new windows... the buttons on bottom of the phone are way to big and take up tooo much space.
exactly what other stuff are you wanting so much that's detering you from switching? The only thing I wish I still had from the telstra rom is the myaccount app. Its been a while since i made the switch (as long as I've pretty much had it) & as far as i can remember the main thing that gave me the ****s was the locked icons on the hometab & all the fixed bigpond crap

well I would like to keep the feature like foxtel and my account plus the Apps Store, TV, news and sport, social web. just for a few. off the top of my head..
it might be a bit of a long shot but have considered trying to install extra stuff on your stock rom? for instance cookies homatab with editor, & other cabs of your liking?
i know that with some apps you'll get a warning about unsigned apps but you can still accept to install. i think...
Hi, I just got this phone a few days ago. I've been trying to explore it and add some files and what not and now have some questions. Is there a way to have a tone for your ringer and for texts individually? Can this phone be jailbroken and what benefits come from doing so? Where are the good apps? Roms? Anything you think I need to know about I would really like. I want to customize all of my phone so that it is my phone.
Thanks.

You do need to have hardspl on your phone--the thing that allows you to flash other roms...or jail breaks the phone using the iphone vocabulary. That really doesn't apply because the hardspl can't be removed by the manufacturer...you have to remove it if you want to.
I agree with LordVader on everything else. Great choices. I am running energy on mine today. I test a lot of different roms but come back to energy when I am travelling.

slide over to settings and tap sound & display; tap ringtone, then select; tap notification sounds, choose then select.
I am presently using a HTC Trophy from Verizon running Tango (firmware version: 2305.13.30202.605) and would like to know how I would go about using custom notification sounds for recieving messages/texts. I know next to nothing about unlocking/other things like that with Windows Phone.
Unfortunately you cannot use custom tones for text messages, only for ringtones and alarms. There may be a way to do it if you dev unlock the phone which you can find out how to do by reading through the Development section.
I believe you have to download a 3rd party application from the marketplace or htc application hub to do this. The windows ringtone settings will not let you have your own tones (stupid i know)

I'm not sure about specific ways to add custom ring tones other then cooking a rom, but if you are interested on custom roms for your Verizon Trophy, read this guide I wrote on how to install HSPL (it explains everything you need to know).
In the mean time, I'll try to dig up some information you might need. I don't know if there are any official apps that support adding custom ring tones, etc, since Microsoft locked that stuff down tight.
*edit* oh wow.. uh.. its actually pretty easy to do, no HSPL/custom rom required. Just need Zune and to sync the phone. Read the official Microsoft guide here.
