Okay - I know how to change the width of scroll bars but what I am wondering is if there is a way to control where the start or end. Basically, I like to display my calender on my screen and I prefer the Calender app to the Today Agenda plugin included in the Faria ROM. When I get lots of appointments it puts scroll bar on the front screen.
Problem is that these start below the date line and block off part of the screen that I want to see. As you can see from the attached screen shot, the right hand side of the PhoneAlarm control panel is not visible, so I cannot see signal strength. I know I can see it at the top, but let's just say I am anal like that
What I wondering is if there is a way to force the scroll bars to start below the speed dial plug-in?
I don't think so. But if you use a different plugin for your calendar, then some of those can have a fixed size and their own scroll bar. I use Pocket Breeze and have mine set up just for that reason. PB has a scrollbar but the whole screen does not.
BTW: What is the tool bar right under your Date plugin???
BTW: What is the tool bar right under your Date plugin???
it's phonealarm,
i second 'the change the today agenda plugin height'
and also try out vijay's toggle to gain screen space

The tool under the date plugin is PhoneAlarm.
It's a great tool, and Bruce the author is a great developer, but I've had a few troubles >= WM5.
But, I love the app, and AlarmToday.
dcdivenut: regarding the scrollbars, it is possible but a little complicated and you have to registry edit, so backup first.
1. Backup Registry, then using a good registry editor go to
HKLM > Software > Microsoft > Today > Items
2. Find the Plugin you want to be scrollbar less, eg in my case VJAudioNotes.
3. Glance through the entries and find the one that says "Type". Double click type and change the value to 5
4. Go into Settings > Today and make some minor change to your today screen to force it to refresh (or just soft reset). Hopefully the changes will now be reflected.
This will force the plugin to the top of the screen and force scrollbars to occur under that plugin.

Thanks
Thanks for the ideas (and sorry for the delay in gratitude, it has been a crazy day at work!)
The bar is indeed phoneAlarm and I am using the B&W Pure skin in minimized mode. It is a VERY useful tool that adds true profile capability with both time and activity based profile switching. The product has great support (forum based) and the next version (1.6) is in beta right now. There is also a lite version.
I will try some of the solution suggested and see what I can make work. I really wanted to stay away from utilizing another app just to prevent scroll bars so I will give vijay's process a shot and see what happens.
Worked perfectly
I tried Vijay's suggestion and it worked perfectly. Then for kicks and giggles I tried it with Battery status as well and it worked there too, forcing the scrollbar below that. Then I tried it with the photo dialer and it would not take so this is where I am at now, which is definitely a situation I can live with. Thanks Vijay!!
Not that I'm "Mr. OG" and been around this forum for a long time but I've done a **** load of reading in this forum and never once came across this. That is a fantastic little tip there VJ!
Good stuff!

That's what I'm here for. I have to say, I've also excreted an enormous amount of reading on the site, and can't say I've seen this tweak either, but one day I was fussing about with my plugins and thought I'd try it, and hey presto, Robert's your father's brother.
Post more screenshots guys.

Maybe it's just me with my small thumbs but I find many applications place frequently used items in hard to reach places like these
I saw a SPB Mobile Shell movie where the employee left the uncomfortable places unused in his shortcuts menu, so I know I'm not the only one with this issue Of course I can't expect developers to cater to my every wish so I was wondering which programs have the easiest to customize interface. That is, not the best quality software but software where I don't have to give up my studies to learn to implement a new interface
Specifically, I'm looking for
Mp3 player - (using MortPlayer at the moment)
Keyboard - (Blimkeys is almost right for me)
Phonepad
But any and all links to easily (fully) customizable software are greatly appreciated.
See the thumbnail for areas which I think should be avoided, darker is harder to reach...
One of the best thumb friendly media players is S2P by A_C. I have it on a Windows Mobile PDA that i use as a front end in the car, load the MP3s onto an SD card and away we go.
Forgot to say that PocketCM and iContacts are both great contact managers, the latter especially if all you need is quick access to your contacts and their details.
PocketCM and rlToday will allow you to do everything

I would say S2P is very finger friendly but could be more thumb friendly. (Where, by thumb friendly I mean true one-handed usage) And then the question becomes, how easy is it to configure the UI?

RandomAccess would be all I need if only the right-side navigation bar could be made wider. Is this possible with PocketCM? I didn't try PocketCM very long because it's a bit unstable for me (randomly closing when sliding through contacts). This could be due to other software i have installed, not necessarily a PocketCM issue...
Thanks for your replies!

Never had an issue with PocketCM closing at the wrong moment, it's just a bit heavy weight, and thus sluggish, sometimes
Do a forum search and you'll find more information than just asking in a thread.
I have been searching the forum for the past week and have learned a lot. For this question it was hard to find answers mainly because it seems few people share my ideas about usability.
Actualy, I use my fingers most of the time with my device. The only thing that is difficult is the close button. it is actualy the hardest buton to reach for. The rest of the places have a much larger box. If someone was to develop a piece of software or a registry hach that would center thetop bar's indicators and make the XButton wider, things would be much easyer.
Thet's about all I want for my wish list: being able to quit (not close) programs with my pinkey (at least) Hard to tap and hold an area of the screen in the corner with a thick frame around it
Hi! I tried the last few months to make my XDA More fingerfriendly...
Here my list of Programms:
ftouchsl or ftouchflo to close Programs bei sliding down
rltoday + Batterystatus to get infomations like last call on Screen (with big Icons)
Ultimatelaunch to switch todayscreen so I can use bigger icons Pocket CM, Pocket CM Keyboard and Pocket CM Calendar
Mortplayer can be very fingerfriendly! I made my own Skin because S2P has no alarm clock and I can use all options by finger
hope I could help!

I may be wrong but doesn't the down swipe of fTouchflo just minimize the application?
There is still a need for an easy to use close button that isn't tucked up in the right hand corner and blocked from fingers by the bezel.
Hi Everyone,
Just bought the the HD. Great hardware, but as you know interface is not as fluid as iPhone. would really like to use PhatPad but when I try and disable touchflow's scroll funtion, it just stays.
the registery editor works as I can for example flip scroll sound on & off, but it seems that scroll and "cube" are overriden.
Anyone has found a solution ?
By the way, would disabling mean that one could not use row of launch buttons for emails, pictures, config etc... ?
Many thanks for this great forum!
Cheers
Nader
I also miss the use of Phatpad and have not found a solution.
Do you also have the freezing problem? Try writing a note continuously and see if eventually the screen freezes for a couple of seconds.
At least no Freezing problem ....
Hi,
I tried by applying the stylus and managed to scramble the page a lot and did not get any freezing of screen.
Strange that we can not disable this scroll function, it seems to be embedded into touchflow and does not use registery data ?
Cheers
Nader
No one knows how to disable the scroll function ?
Thanks for any help.
Cheers
Nader
just install nullkeaboard, can be found here:

and aktivte while using phatpad

Hi All,
I would like to present You a small and simple application called Custom Scroll. It gives You a chance to take the opportunity customizing scrolling behavior of HTCScroll Windows addon (which is used in File Explorer, MS Contacts, Programs, Settings... - everywhere where scrolls are used - and we are using fingers (flick gestures) to scroll...
I've noticed that when I'm trying new ROM many times "scrolling feature" need to be modified by myself, so why don't we just make it quick and simple, with predefined checked and accepted values - even maybe "solutions" ?
that's why I've made that application...
I would like to ask You a favor... when You'll be testing Your own values and You'll notice that some of combinations are quite good, please post them 'here' - in this topic ... after testing I'll build them into program.
Please take a look at the video, where I'm showing how does Custom Scroll works and how to operate with it...

Big THANKS to All from XDA Community, [germany]merlot, dr G from ppcgeeks.com
Some sample settings are built-in program (as seen on Video )
another "preset" (in version 1.1 it's: "Prefered #1"):
Speedlow=100
Speedhigh=25
Pagelow=15
Pagehigh=50
VERSION UPDATED to Custom Scroll 1.1 (see #2 post for download)
Read this:dr G from PPCGEEKS.com discovered that:
Pagelow = Low speed scroll page size
Pagehigh = High speed scroll page size
Speedlow = Low speed scroll speed (ms delay)
Speedhigh = High speed scroll speed (ms delay)
Pantype = Enable/disable grab scrolling default 1, 0=disable
The page size is the number of - units - the given interface scrolls when the low or high speed scroll is activated by gesturing - finger flick. For example a pagelow of 20 would scroll 20 contacts each time you flick scroll in the contact list. This is why with the default 50 and 80 settings, flick scrolling causes excessive scrolling in contacts with the device initially.
The low speed scroll is activated by the initial flick gesture. The high speed scroll is activated by an ADDITIONAL flick gesture DURING the scroll initiated by the low speed scroll gesture. So it's kind of like "revving up" the scroll.
The speedlow and speedhigh delays are the delays between the "units" scrolled during either scroll. As such, the speedlow number is higher than the speedhigh number. Thing is, if you set the speedlow number too small, the low speed scroll will finish so quickly, you will not be able to initiate the high speed scroll with an additional gesture.

Thanks for sharing this looks really good !!!
Thanks a lot for that cichy, I will have a good play with the settings. Can you add any good settings recommendations to your first post please, just so they are easy to find as the thread grows. I guess it should work on many devices too.

I've just reedited first post with sample "preset"... Notice that in program there are "3 presets" for "distance" ... and 4 or 5 for touch/sensitivity...
please if You'll find something interesting (sets / registry tweeks) give a reply in this topic...
Custom Scroll Updated to 1.1 (see #2 for download)
This work only with Diamond?? What key I must set for change scroll set in the HD?
it should be working with every sort of hardware that has tflo installed -> htc scroll addon ... just try it...
and then post some rply in this topic
Awesome App
Now all we need is kinetic scrolling. I dont know about other people but I cant stand the old-fashioned scrolling in WM. It's impossible to see stuff go by. Kinetic scrolling just feels more natural, period (i guess thats why it is so popular). Any ideas?
Good looks so far though- keep up the good work!
So does this only work with htc touchflo or will it work with the new scrolling built-in to wm6.5? I don't know of any 6.5 roms that are using touchflo.
Hi,
Liked the app - great way to customze the scrolling. One question/request though. Before my Diamond, I had an MDA Compact running Pointui and really liked the scrolling feature on it. It was a more fluid scroll feature (in my opinion ) as opposed to the flicking action needed with the "iphone" esq scroll. Have linked a utube example for your ref
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Na7k2JfbgG8
Can your application customize the scrolling like this or is it possible to adapt it accordingly?
Thanks

It works with every build in HTC Scroll Addon (see if you have installed htcscroll.dll somehere in memory)
... I did not use 6.5 WM, but I think that microsoft has it's own sollution for finger scrolling, flick gestures and other stuff... if You have TFLO 3D and you can "Flick" in File Explorer You CAN adjust settings (but only some of them) with this program ...

Hi, I haven't htcscroll.dll in my pda, so I downloaded it and copied in windows folder. Need I do others for use your program? Set some key of reg? Other?
You need all TFLO addons... I have no idea is it possible to add HTC finger scrolling without TouchFlo..., maybe sort of porting ... or sth else... sorry no idea... :/
I've TFLO, I have htc touch hd, but manila v2 not manila v3.
love this app. for some reason (or maybe on all touch pros) anything i would scroll it would go directly to the bottom and i couldnt get to stop...this solved my problem! thanks alot
Greetings...
...I've seen in a TARIL's Rom I've used (not any more), a superb "finger-friendly" feature:
There was a TOUCH BUTTON on the right top of the PROGRAMS scrolling bar (and also in CONTACTS too), which you could touch on it and "grab" it, puss it down and you could that way to scroll REALLY FAST to the bottom of the bar! Also, while you was doing that, there was an alphabetic show-up of the programs (with large "A,B,C,D,..." etc. appearing)!
ANYONE OF YOU SAW AN APPLICATION ARROUND???
I'm REALLY need that badly, to my own Rom.
Regards,
Rom.
Are you referring to one of those photo contact dialers, if so, there's a bunch of them here (seven to be precise): http://www.careace.net/2009/08/21/top-7-photo-contact-dialers-for-windows-mobile/
Otherwise, you might be referring to SPB Mobile Shell?
