Is there a way to change the order of letters that appear, when you press the hardware keys?
For example to get the "." (dot) before the "@" on 1, and to get a line-break when pressing # more than 2 times.

With my 8525, some of the keys are showing different characters when I try to press the "symbol" characters. These keys are as follow (when pressed with the "dot" button on the far bottom left):
1. ~ (letter Q) button shows !
2. ! (letter W) button shows @
3. @ (letter E) button shows ?
4. ; (letter A) button shows _
5. - (letter S) button shows "
6. _ (letter D) button shows :
7. ? (letter F) button shows -
I already check the "Regional Settings" and it's in "English (USA)".
Please help!
theres a special dec code for it. let me check on my 8525
input 263177 under
hkeylm>SOFTWARE>OEM>Qwerty>layout
Hey thanks, seattleboy! I changed the registry and it worked now. I wonder why Cingular messed this up, since I am still using the ROM 1.3.4.
Where did you get this DEC code from?

That is interesting. Your buttons DO what mine are labeled as (my Q shows/does the ~, etc.) It seems like for some reason your 8525's keyboard got mislabeled based on what Cingular's software expects.
Glad Seattleboy was able to help you correct it in the registry!
BTW, after I changed the registry, the "special" characters in the "Space" key no longer works. This is the one where you press "dot" and then "Space". Is this normal?
dunno, i have a Cingular preproduction unit. but try using taht fit4cat, and that tweaks to let the dot and C show up
The "dot" and the "C" already shows up on the screen. The issue I have is that pressing the "dot" and "Space" key didn't bring up the Symbol selection. In the "Space" key, you'll see the secondary function of that key, such as a, u (in latin)
keyboard update

My keyboard shows the Q key has tilde, W has exclamation, etc... the same as the left side of the list above. When I press the blue dot and the corresponding key, what I get in my programs is the right side of the list above.
The only relevant settings I know of are currently "correct," as follows:
HKLM/Software/OEM/Qwerty/Layout=263177
HKCU/Keyboard layout/Preload/Default=e0010409
HKCU/Keyboard layout/Preload/1/Default=e0010409
These are the recommendations I have seen everywhere. This all used to work right before I unlocked my SIM from Cingular 1.34 (I believe), then went to the South African 1.35 ROM. Now, I'm very pleased that my 8525 is unlocked, but this was unexpected.
My Symbols key seems to work correctly.
Any ideas at all what I need to do in order to get the characters on the left of the list above, to appear after the blue dot is pressed? I also checked my region settings: English (USA), as desired.
Thanks so much!
Has anyone had similar issue?
When I open Start Menu, some letters of Program names are underlined.
Any idea how to remove those marks?
Thanks in advance!
These are keyboard shortcuts to those programs (similar in "desktop" windows - when you press "Alt" key you have some letters underlined; when you press those letters on the keyboard it shall activate the given option).
There is a registry key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (which unfortunately I can not remember right now)
with a value called something like HardwareKeybaordEnabled (sorry I can't be more specific).
If you change it from 1 to 0 the lines will go away.
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\HasKeyboard 1",change 1 to 0 and power off...
Hi all!
does anybody have an idea how to add some characters to the keys when the FN key is pressed? For example I wabt to have a special character when I press FN,a or FN,b. Is there any registry entry which holds the values of the already assigned keys?
thanx for your help
On a PC, I'd use ALT + 145, to write the character æ. But on the phone, no ALT key. How do you write these extended ascii characters on this phone?
Press the Blue Dot button (Like Function or ALT on a PC) It's on the bottom row all the way to the left.
Then press the Tab button (next to space)
See how it says "SYM" in blue on that button.. that brings up the Symbol Menu. There are 15 pages of special characters... Including the one in your example.
If you are using onscreen keyboard, just select input method symbol Pad.
Hello, i have a little problem.
I would to setup windows messenger on my X1 but i need the _ to compleet the setup. but where can i find the _ on the X1.
Thankz.
bring up the on screen keyboard. its a hassle i know but the x1 doesnt seem to have it mapped on the query keyboard
It works! Thankz.
You can use the àü button (just above the "Sym" key on the hardware keyboard) for this and MANY other characters...
For example type a "-" and then press the àü key and it turns that "-" into the "_" that you wanted...
This also works for $, £, and loads more symbols ...you can even customise it (I set mine up so I have easy access to £ and €...)

thay AU key doesnt seem to do anything for me. do i need to set it up first?
No it should just work ~maybe probs if you've installed a keyboard? or manila ...but fresh out of the box it works automatically
Connect your phone in ActiveSync mode to your computer and open \Windows\sym.0409.txt
That shows you the list ...for each character it shows what pressing the àü key will change it to (you have to press àü immediately after pressing the original key)
You can move them around. Each line is representing one hardware key. Each time you press àü it jumps to the next character on the line in that text file.
Here is an extract of mine -
aàáâäåąãăæ
AÀÁÂÄÅĄÃĂÆ
cçćč©
...
@£$€~
%^
So when I type "a" and then press àü it changes to à ...press àü again and it changes to á ...
So to get the GBP symbol I just type @ and press àüand there you go... I have £
im usign the diamond keyboard. it doesnt do anythign for me when i press that button. dont have anything else installed. ill try to look up that file, thanks.
i tried opening it. it has everything you have and more. however, it doesnt work.
i'm using the X1ButtonMapper software and assigned the Tab+s key for underscore using the command SendKeys("_"). at the same time I assigned the $, %, and + keys to other buttons. it made sending e-mails and SMS a lot easier..
